I had the small chicken pesto panini with a cup of their barley & mushroom soup. I thought the food was phenomenal! Great flavor & portion size. My only complaint would be the size of the facility. Although it's intimate & warm, they can only fit a few tables for seating. Hopefully they are able to grow & accommodate more folks! read more

Wow; what a rarity nowadays. Family owned, hand made, top quality ingredients( they even roast their own turkeys and chickens?!); even the kids work there. Wonderful people. And yes,it is "just" a sandwich in the way a hand crafted limited edition Rolls Royce is just another car. I'm not sure how you could make a sandwich any better. And that same care-about-what-you-do-and-do-it-right attitude is evident in everything they do; from the the homemade baked goods, to the quiche and soups; even the cool filtered water. I thought the food was good. It was a very small portion for the price, I got a half sandwich. It came with a partial pickle, and orzo salad.. But the salad had to have been like a tablespoon or so. The service was fairly slow. But I can understand that, it's a small place that makes things as ordered overall. I most likely wouldn't make it a regular place simply because the portion size/price point. But they do have what it takes.. read more

Really really nice place. Comfy, clean and bright, the staff are super genuine and friendly. I ordered a breakfast panini and it was awesome-- even came with some fresh fruit on the side that was top notch! They are very conscious about brewing tea-- had the temperature of the water adjusted so my tea brewed perfectly. I would come back again! Every time we go on vacation we make a point to scope out small businesses to support. Sunny Side Kitchen was one of our best finds while we were in San Diego. The food and coffee were delicious but what we were most impressed by was the service... the staff was super nice and friendly and made us feel right at home. We had the avocado egg and cheese and the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich. The Tuscan Chicken sandwich was recommended on the wall and was very good. The avocado egg and cheese sandwich was perfectly made. I also really enjoyed the 3-4 $1 mini cookies that we had. Portions were on the smaller side but with the salad I was full. The sandwich did not come with anything besides a tiny side of Orzo. This is one of my favorite little mom and pop shops in San Diego! Their breakfast paninis are amazing and the owners are so sweet. Every time I come in, they're working the line and taking care of customers. With it being a small cafe it can get crowded, and with everything made fresh to order there can be a wait time. But why rush your visit? The simple decor and homey feel always makes us more relaxed and is the perfect environment for coffee and conversation while waiting for the food. Sunny Side Kitchen has fantastic paninis (try the Tuscan Chicken or the Veggie Mediteranean). Salads are great too and, while I'm not a coffee drinker, my husband says the coffees are very good. It seems to be very popular with the employees of local businesses, and around noon it can be fairly crowded, but the service is still quick. There are just a few tables indoors with a few more outside. The owners are very friendly. I like to support local small restaurants, especially when they have great food like Sunny Side. I have to agree with everyone on here that this place is one of the best finds in Escondido. I first discovered them at a brewery in Vista and was in love! Once I found out they had opened a little shop I was excited to be able to share it with my family and friends. I haven't had one thing I didn't like, though I am a huge fan of the bacon avocado. Everything is always fresh made and delicious. They also have some sweet Italian soda flavors that go great with any of their sandwiches. Great food, great place, and great customer service. I highly recommend pairing these with peach and strawberry Italian sodas which are worth trying if you've never had one. The fresh cookies were a nice bonus at the end.
