This was my first visit to Sunny's, and I have to admit I was a little hesitant at first. Since they don't take weekend reservations or have a waitlist, I was worried about getting a table for my large group to celebrate my birthday. I had been told to arrive 2-3 hours early, but we arrived about an hour and a half before we wanted to eat, and they were able to seat us within that time. Berkeley, the host who greeted us, was attentive, welcoming, and professional. From the moment we arrived, I felt like we were in good hands. The restaurant itself is beautiful. I loved the yellow buggy outside, and the duck décor inside is such a unique touch. The flowers and lemon tree create a bright, inviting atmosphere. It was definitely busy and a bit loud, but we were seated in a booth where everyone could comfortably talk and enjoy each other's company. Our group ordered a variety of appetizers, brunch dishes, drinks, and dessert, and every single item was excellent. We started with the feta avocado appetizer, French toast, grilled cheese sandwich, and the Mediterranean plate. For my entrée, I ordered the chilaquiles, and they were absolutely fantastic. I especially loved all of the flavorful sauces. I also enjoyed both the espresso martini and the limoncello drink. Everyone in my party commented on how much they enjoyed their meals as well. Our server, Addie, was outstanding. She was professional, attentive, and checked on us frequently to make sure everything was perfect. She also made sure I felt celebrated on my birthday, which I really appreciated. To top it all off, they surprised me with chocolate gelato for dessert, and it was absolutely delicious. This place was popping on a Friday morning for brunch! When we heard it was a one hour wait for a table, we were about to leave but got lucky and snagged a couple of bar seats. Ordered a strawberry matcha and a lavender latte to start. My partner did not enjoy the lavender latte; on top of the coffee being mediocre, it was served in a lipstick stained mug. This was quite off putting. I will give the staff credit - they immediately replaced the drink in a clean mug and waived the drink from the final check. The matcha drink was pretty good. We both ordered the brunch bowl which was hearty and tasty, but quite expensive for what it was. Overall I'd say Sunny's is a little overhyped and overpriced. I loved the decor, the atmosphere, and the overall vibes. They also offer both indoor and outdoor seating, which is a nice bonus. The coffees we ordered were just okay--not bad, but nothing particularly stood out on the ones we picked. The food, however, was delicious! Do yourself a favor and start with the avocado crostini--it was absolutely delicious . The entrée portions were generous, and everything we tried was flavorful. I was delightfully surprised by our trip to Sunny's. I had a watermelon lime juice that was super refreshing. I had the berries and cream stack and it was delicious! Fresh berries, light and tasty pancakes, and just enough cream! I will be ordering it again!! The service was great-everyone was so upbeat and helpful. They do have outside seating, but it is not very shaded so it will be hot. They also have bar seating I tried the frozen aperol spritz. I don't know if it sat for a while or if it's supposed to be like that, but it was only half frozen. We shared the Parmesan fries. The portion was big, the amount of Parmesan on them was just what I needed and the garlic aioli was the cherry on top. For my meal, I had the whipped feta and egg toast. It came with a portion of beet hummus and arugula salad. My eggs were perfectly cooked over medium. It also has fresh avocado. The restaurants is esthetically pleasing. It's definitely a girl brunch kind of place. For being super busy, I feel like service was quick and our waiter was always around. We got Parmesan fries for $9.99, hardly any Parmesan on them. Adding on: After our appetizer, we received our food and my husband had a piece of glass in his entree. We're grateful he caught it thinking it was an egg shell but it was clearly a piece of glass. The restaurant manager was shocked and apologetic. So finally went to Sunny's at the Rim today, with Neil. It was really cute, the food was ok, the server was sweet. However their timing in the kitchen was awful. Neil received his entree, appetizer and latte before I received my entree. I think it may have been 15 minutes before I was served my entree. When I finally was brought my latte there was lipstick on the coffee mug. I am pretty patient, since I was in the restaurant business before and I was in no rush. I would probably go back but hope that the kitchen will get their timing managed. Oh one last thing, they need to have a space for the customers waiting. A large party was waiting to be seated, they didn't have a reservation and they stood inside the restaurant next to tables of customers that were eating, not comfortable for the customers eating. I heard about the new opening so tried waiting maybe 2 weeks til they opened after (i don't know when the opened). I added me and my boyfriend to the waitlist and it didn't take too long maybe an hour (we were getting off work so it worked out perfect) Service is good the waitress we had was super nice ! she dealt with another mean customer and handled it well. our food was brought out fast. we ordered the french toast dippers (i think it's called that) for a starter and I had their brunch bowl. I'll put photos (i forgot to take some but i was eating midway). Food was delicious! they use a type of jam for you to dip your french toast sticks in and it was sooo yummy. Honestly mid. The only reason why they're doing so good and have lines out the door is because everything is pretty. Their parm fries, limp& cold. Their avacado crustinis were okay, not much flavor. This is a problem as I don't like having to read a menu in my phone. I ordered the Sunny Sampler. My dish was served in a timely manner but it was cold. Eggs cold, potatoes slightly warm, bacon room temp, sausages cold. I asked server to take it away and enjoyed my coffee instead. Sadly only apology came from server. We decided to try Sunny's today. I had tried to join the waitlist as the website made clear they didn't do reservations, but didn't say you couldn't get on the waitlist, but it wouldn't let me. When I mentioned it to the hostess thinking maybe it was just a system glitch, I got a "Ma'am, we don't use the waitlist on weekends." I said, "Oh, the website only says the reservations aren't used in weekends." She gave me a not so friendly look. We weren't complaining, we knew we'd have a wait regardless. Maybe she was just having a bad morning? The interior was very busy and loud. The booth we sat in was super cute, but the seat was a bit shallow and the back kind of felt like it was pushing us forward. The menus were on QR codes which would be okay but they opened four different PDFs and everytime I tried to go to oneor the other I had to start over with the QR. I ordered a Ferrero Mocha and my husband had the Pretty in Pink and both were good. He ordered the brunch bowl and I had the breakfast crepe. The crepe had a chipotle bernaise sauce that wasn't listed on the menu. I'm not a spicy food person so that wasn't fun. They offered to remake it, but they were so bust I just scraped it off. Unfortunately the crepe was rubbery and tasted strongly of flour, the cheese wasn't melted right and the sausage was not great. My husband's bowl was better, but the only real flavor was on the breakfast potatoes. We felt like they kind of depended on the sauces to bring the pizzazz instead of making sure each element was cooked well and was flavorful. Hopefully as time goes on, they make the necessary adjustments to make the dishes more well rounded. I think at the price point, there are maybe some better options in the area. read more

My friend and I visited this location on Tuesday after having a not-so-good experience at the other Sunny's located in Boerne and we were more disappointed than we imagined. Walking up to the restaurant in front of it was a pile of vomit... not really something I was looking forward to seeing right before I eat my food but whatever i'm still determined to give this place a chance. Upon arriving we were told that there would be an hour to an hour and 45 minute wait (which was totally fine! we're both industry workers so we understand when you're busy, having a bad day, getting used to the new place, etc.) Later on we were sat at the booth/ chairs behind the host stand (first and foremost I HIGHLY advise only two tables being there) we were seated in between two dates which felt kind of awkward at the time but we were just so excited to get our food and drinks that we didn't really pay any mind to it much afterwards. Our server then greets us and asks for our drink orders (mimosa bottle to split) after ordering the mimosa bottle we waited for maybe 15 minutes (AGAIN not a big deal at all we understand they're busy) as we're waiting a very young maybe 15-16 year old bus boy came to the tables next to us to clean them as he's cleaning, his tub of dirty dishes is sitting directly next to my friend in her booth, even after all the dishes had been cleared off and he was resetting other tables around us.... HELLO?! i'm sorry but i'd rather not sit next to a tub of dirty dishes in a place that is supposed to have nice, cute, CLEAN vibes. After about 10 more minutes of cleaning random things and having us watch his bus tub for him it was finally picked up. Our server then proceeds to walk towards our table and tell us that one of the other servers took our mimosa bottle and he doesn't know where it went but he'll send in another one (where is the communication in all this?) we waited 20 minutes to be told that our drink was at another table. The food then comes out to our table but we still haven't seen our mimosa bottle or server. I proceeded to waive our server over to tell him to just cancel the bottle completely to which he responds "are you sure? it's literally ready i'm just waiting on juices" ... ok so it's NOT ready at this point i was just so annoyed we canceled the bottle finished our food and left! Well, we set a reservation at 2pm for my fiancée's birthday in advance on Thursday. We got there and they still didn't have the table ready. We waited 30 minutes. My thought was that they just let a random person pour the drinks because maybe they could spell the word "BAR" lol... And the food was nothing special. I asked for cheese on my potatoes and I figured they may have counted the 9 strands of shredded cheese they added. They didn't skimp the upcharge though. I also realized not one person at our table was raving about how good the food was. In addition, it was hot in there. Not sure if they shut off the AC so people could get the hint to leave since they close at 4 or what. But it being hot in there made it less enjoyable. It was not pleasant paying what we paid for such a mediocre experience. Personally, nothing made me feel like, "Yup, I want to come back here." Our waiter, Ana, was an exceptional server, very nice young lady and attentive to our needs however, the food (Sunny's Sampler: Sourdough toast, 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, and tomatoes) were served cold, not her fault. One would expect food to be served hot for the price of $18.99 a plate but that was not the case...seems as if the plates were sitting out for a while. In my experience, We were provided with a 50% discount on the plates but still was a bummer not to enjoy the food. Location is nice, ambiance is pleasant. The Ferrero Mocha coffee was very good. One star is generous. Where do I even begin? The experience started with coffee and cream--except the cream immediately curdled, it smelled sour, and after three replacement containers that were just as bad, we gave up. Breakfast wasn't much better. It was comparable to the free continental breakfast at a run-down roadside motel. Everything was cold. The scrambled eggs tasted like liquid or powdered eggs. The eggs were dry, crumbly, overcooked, and pale yellow with hints of gray; I've never seen gray in eggs. The bacon arrived in one clumped-together pile that somehow managed to be both half crispy and half soggy. The sausage was cold, the potatoes were over-fried and, you guessed it, cold too. Our plates were left full when the server cleared the table. The only bright spot was the water...until it started dripping from the ceiling onto our table, our clothes, and the floor. Someone who wasn't our server came up to us and gave us water and said they would try to find our server. we waited even longer but we decided to leave. terrible customer service, i'm a server and keep up with my sections I couldn't imagine leaving a customer waiting in this heat.
