Wait was very long and staff didn't seem happy when new customers came in to be added to the list. Hostess was not helpful at all when it came to wait time. Our waitress was very sweet and took COVID protocols very seriously. Our food was very good, even thought it took a while to come out. A very memorable breakfast!!!! I had the Bearly Benedict. Sooo delicious. It came with home fries but I wanted to try the fried grit patty. For $2 more it was so worth every delicious bite. Hubs had the Appalachian. He said it was cooked perfectly and he enjoyed it but I think secretly he wished he had ordered the Bearly Benedict. BTW this restaurant is very Covid conscious. I've been here twice now and the food is a much needed addition to Clemsons bland array of restaurants. The food is really good and the menu offers a wide variety of choices ranging from breakfast to lunch. I highly recommend the huevos or the breakfast Cuban. The service could definitely use some refining as the host didn't show up at the stand for a good 5 min after we had arrived to take down our name. There were also clearly tables available when we arrived but for some reason she waited another 5 min to seat us at one. But that's a small criticism and an easy fix. I always found the service and the food fresh and pleasant when this restaurant operates downtown Clemson. But the move to Patrick Square has seen both service and good quality decline to below acceptable levels. I have eaten both breakfast and lunch three times and every time had issues. The food here is wonderful! There is always a long wait, though, especially on Sunday. But, it's worth the wait. Our waiter, Joshua, knew the menu front to back. Our therapy dog was with us, and there were no issues at all! We had an omelet and bacon, but the star of the meal was the biscuits with jelly. My son and I went to this restaurant that was highly recommended by his friends. It was worth the hour wait in the 93 degree weather ! We got there at 930; but the line had already formed as it was move in weekend for Clemson. We are from San Francisco area of California and I must say this place has great food and service. I also was told the owner is there daily and travels the US and brings back ideas and recipes for the restaurant to try. We ordered a traditional breakfast and it was farm to table! Most of their food is locally bought and they support the community. We loved the ice cold fresh squeezed orange juice and the boys loved the waffles/pancakes/bacon/and toast. Nothing is greasy; but rather very healthy and yummy. We can't wait to go here again; but I was told they may be moving to larger location--and I can see why! They might even do a delivery service which would be ideal for the college kids as they can have their breakfast brought to them. I think the owner is on the cutting edge and has some great ideas he is bringing to the community and it has been well received. Cant wait to visit my son and try their new spot in a few months! I know this place is a draw but the demand is high and supply super low in clemson. Not sure people have a choice. This was the best breakfast we have ever had!!!!! The eggs were AMAZING, the grits were fabulous, and my kids said the pancakes were outstanding!!! The food came out nice and hot and quick. We're not normally from this area so we picked SunnySide Cafe for a late breakfast. Alexis our server was bright and cheery, quick to get us seated, order drinks and get us water also. My wife ordered the Apple butter pecan French toast with cheese grits on the side. I got the SOS with the 2 eggs hard over. Everything was great. I don't think we could have choose a better place. We're not from the south and up to this point any grit I had tried were... well... not good. However these were very good I'm now a fan. One more note on Alexis always working folding napkins ect. Our visit to the Sunnyside cafe was so outrageously terrible with a manager on duty so incompetent, yet at the same time, so full of himself, that I swear it could have been a SNL skit similar to the soup nazi. We were a party of seven and arrived at 9:15 am to see a half dozen groups standing inside the doorway or sitting outside around metal tables as best they could as cable locks remained laced through the chairs on one side of the patio so folks couldn't fit their legs between the chairs or under the table. It was graduation morning for our daughter. We and many of the other groups were mixes of well dressed friends and family of graduates - happy for the occasion and content to wait and talk with our loved ones. We were told that the expected wait was 45 minutes. Noting that there were several open tables (including a table for 6 in the middle of the room) we asked if we would be seated any sooner if we broke our group up and offered that we would be happy to sit at the outside tables. Clearly annoyed, the hostess responded, no, breaking into smaller groups would not help and the outside section was closed. No problem for us, we had plenty of time and were happy to order some warm coffee drinks and sit outside and catch up. When I tried to order coffees to drink while we waited I was informed by the hostess that the manager would not allow us to buy coffee because they had no paper cups and the manager feared we would steal their standard coffee mugs. Okay, it was a cool morning and we had a 45 minute wait outside so I took coffee orders and ran to the Starbucks a couple hundred yards up the street - random waiting patrons gave me money to bring them back coffees for the wait... So we clustered in happy groups sitting in unlocked chairs sipping on Starbucks coffee waiting our turn and being amused as we watched patrons contort themselves to perch a body part on locked chairs and a succession of arriving patrons making reasonable requests of the staff, hostess would pass the request to bearded manager/waiter who would on each and every occasion decline the request. If a party of five waiting patrons found a open table with four chairs and moved an additional chair so they could wait in comfort, the hostess, who was also waiting tables would walk outside and tell the party that the chair must be returned immediately. When our wait reached 50 minutes and we inquired about the still empty 6 top in the middle of the dining room we were told the space had been reserved for the 10:30am time slot.....they kept the table empty for at least an hour waiting for these guests. Next the waitress came out and informed us and others sitting in the unlocked chairs that we must move out as the manager had decided to opening this area and proceeded to sit a large group of 8 patrons who had arrived well after us at that outside table - maybe they had stopped in earlier to put their name in, I don't know. This group was too large for the 6-top table so they naturally sled the empty two top against the table they were seated at. They hostess/waitress ran out and made them return the two-top. There had been several two-too tables in the cafe since our arrival 69 minutes prior. They were forced to eat their breakfasts with young children sitting on laps to squeeze into that table. Now we were the ones trying to contort onto the cable-locked chairs. Finally, at the one hour fifteen minute mark the hostess informed us that it would be an additional 30 minute wait for a table for the seven but, if we were willing to break into a group of 5 and to we could be seated right away. Great location for a quick breakfast or lunch. The menu is large, with interesting specials. The chef's salad was large and filled with fresh ingredients. We drove from FL for baseball tournament and need it to grab something to eat and straight to the game, even-do they were busy, were able to accommodate 6 of us and in and out in 35 minutes, fast but most important great food and even I mentioned we were in a hurry never felt rush it went smooth. This place would have gotten 5 stars if they could do basic math and put tables together. My family waited an hour and a half because we were a party of 6 however numerous parties of 5 were sat before us. I asked what the hold up was and was told they only have 2 places to put parties of 6 (both of which are outside). After the hour and a half wait in the sun we said no way to sitting outside and were seated at a 4 top... that's right 6 people at a 4 top after an hour and a half wait. Meanwhile there are numerous 4 and 2 top tables inside that can easily be pushed together to accommodate larger parties. The food is delish. This is one of my to go-to-for-a-treat restaurants in Asheville. I think I've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all excellent. My favorite is the shrimp and grits and it's consistently creamy, slightly spicy deliciousness with perfectly-cooked shrimp and bacon. It doesn't get any better. The staff is attentive and quick on their feet. The garden is lovely. It can be noisy but that also makes it a great place for families. read more

Against the advice of my friends, I tried Sunnyside this morning. Big mistake. About 25% of the seats were filled, plenty of room. Still, I waited a couple minutes to be seated, the 4-5 wait staff having a conversation. I sat myself. Waited a few minutes for coffee. A few minutes later, a bearded guy came over and told me he had promised the two-seat table to someone else. I said OK, and walked back to the entrance. Waited. Still 25% capacity. Most of the 4 seat tables were set. I asked to sit at one of those, but the wait staff said they weren't sitting the 4 seat tables yet. 9:30 in the morning. I had to prepare for a class, so I left. Never, never, never again. I went to place up the road that was packed, but I was seated and served almost immediately. And the waitress treated me like a person instead of a revenue stream. read more

This would only be the best breakfast in town if there was no school, grocery store, or prison cafeteria available. We only asked for one item that was inedible to be removed from our order, but if there was a manager to be found, I would have requested the entire meal be comped. Unfathomably disappointing. The sausage was a pale grey patty of unknown meat origin. It tasted like how a barn stall smells. The potatoes ("home fries") were a greasy, hard, undercooked, unseasoned mess. A relatively well-cooked, $9 omelet appeared to have 2 tablespoons of filling inside that were both undercooked and underwhelming. If your target demographic is hungover, overprivileged college students spending mommy and daddy's money, maybe I get it, but it's absurd to think that serving food like this at a ridiculous price in any way makes the Sunnyside Cafe a "quality" breakfast spot worth leaving the house for. The owners of this place should be ashamed for ripping regular folks off like this. We got 3 scrambled eggs, a side of bacon, two glasses of water, and an omelet with home fries and a small biscuit for $18 before tip.
