We are visiting the area and was looking for a good place to eat for Mother's Day breakfast. . The worst part and we should have turned around was getting our name on the list. She called our name and then pointed to our table and handed us menus, no good morning, happy Mother's Day let me show you to your table, we walked ourselves to the tiny table she pointed to. I went off the reviews and I have to tell you this was one of the worst dining experiences we have had. The Dirty Ninja was just that, nasty, my husband took a few sips and was over it. The mimosa was ok. But equally as bad was the worst eggs Benedict I have ever had (and I have eaten eggs Benedict all over. It was a pressed ham and then you see how much hollandaise sauce they gave me. It was so hard to even cut in tiny pieces. And after we received our food, not one person checked on us, and they brought us a bill without even asking how everything was or if we needed anything else. That was the biggest waste of $45 (for two people). And a horrible start to Mothers Day. Thanks a sunrise for a terrible dining experience. Do better! read more

This place is a gem! We found it passing by on our way to the Charleston Tea Plantation and had an incredible breakfast. The decor is very eclectic with a variety of tables including one large one that lends itself to family-style seating. Being in an area that is not that touristy, we suspect the packed restaurant is frequented by locals. Though the menu offers a variety of the typical and not so typical breakfast items, we both chose something from the Specials menu. The Bison Pork open face omelet and the Chicken Apple Sausage Grits topped with eggs both came with a choice of toast or biscuit. Both meals were exceptional. Prices are reasonable. These two specials were $28 with tax. It was a lot of food! There is a serve yourself coffee bar with about seven different coffees. Service was quick and very friendly. If there's a mistake, they're ALL over it to make it right with the meal, receipt and in conversation. Food is great and cheap, service was a bit odd. Some waiters yelling at each other, our waiter who was not involved did not talk to us other than take our order. Dropped the check on our table as she walked by, was just a really awkward experience. Fortunately the breakfast burrito with bacon was great, also subbed my side of grits for house potatoes at no charge so that was.. also great. My girlfriend ordered a vegetable omelette, looked good, I tried a bite and it sure had a lot of spinach on it! Food came pretty fast, no straws with the beverages. Okay so this is my absolute favorite breakfast spot. I wanted to wait to get photos to post a review. I can order anything off Sunrise Bistros menu and not go wrong. It is absolutely amazing! The staff is super helpful and extremely friendly. The corn beef hash is cooked to perfection every time and the shrimp and grits are to die for. If you don't know what you want when you go in you can ask the staff for suggestions and they won't steer you wrong. Don't let the exterior of the building detract you from going to this GEM of a restaurant. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but it's one of the best meals we've had while staying on Kiawah Island. We went on a Friday morning around 8:30--in the middle of COVID--and were seated immediately. The wait staff all wore masks (properly) and the tables were spaced out at a good distance. Hand sanitizer was stationed right inside the door. Food: I decided to branch out from my typical breakfast order and try the enchiladas rancheros with sausage. I subbed the grits for the house potatoes. My husband got the 3-meat omelet with a biscuit and side of sausage. We ordered our toddler a waffle with some bacon on the side. The food was AMAZING. Heads up -- the portions are large, and despite the delicious taste, I could not finish my whole meal. Service: Incredible. Amanda was our server and I was so impressed with her. We arrived with our toddler who had decided to wake up at 4 am that morning--needless to say, he was tired and grumpy and so were we. (Side note: There's a self-serve coffee bar that this mama quickly gravitated to.) She got his food out quickly and even came and entertained him for a few minutes so that we could scarf down a few bites of food in peace. The waffle we ordered for our son was supposed to come topped with powdered sugar and she ran out before inputting the order to see if we actually wanted the sugar--I emphatically said no. :) I appreciated that gesture of making sure everything we ordered was correct and what we needed. This was my second visit to Sunrise Bistro. My first visit was to get a to go order. This time, a friend and I decided to go on Saturday morning for breakfast. There were several groups waiting for tables when we arrived. I was surprised there were so many awaiting tables as there were two empty, and three waiting to be bussed. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt-they seemed understaffed. However, they could have organized/informed better. It was confusing to know where to check in. A girl behind the counter finally asked if we had our name on the list. We stood and waited, and soon after our arrival, others were seated. After about 10-15 minute wait, we sat at the bar. I ordered the Omelette special, and my friend ordered the Smoked Salmon on bagel. Both were absolutely delicious. The omelette was cooked to perfection, and had delicious ingredients-chorizo, Monterey Jack, peppers, and more. My friend's smoked salmon was perfect. Lots of salmon, delicious cream cheese and a fresh bagel. The timing of food delivery was good considering that they were so understaffed. Our server was very sweet, and helpful. The only reason that I'm giving 4 stars is that the welcome was not excellent, and the service could have been better with more staff. I plan to go back soon to give them another look! read more

The sandwiches were cut into quarters; the bread was thick and delicious, not that skinny white bread, and the fillings were generous. Special hits were the tri-tip and the BLT. I'll have to remember to order more of those next time! Vegetarians were delighted to see veggie sammies on the plate too. The food was very good at Sunrise. The veggie omelette was delicious and colorful. I also really liked the Italian bread that came with the omelette and that's not something I'd usually have. The food was great, but I was very put off by the service and the behavior of the waitresses. We walked in and they were cussing to each other and didn't acknowledge us. Once we were seated, our waitress barely said a word or even looked at us. And they created an overall stressful environment running around and slamming things around. The woman who brought our food was very nice and actually talked to us but another waitress sat down at the table next to us and loudly complained about her job to some customers.
