The food is really good especially the waffles; the wait staff are very nice and thoughtful however, if I may suggest to the owners of this humble restaurant, a lil makeover of its facade as well as the interior (clean, brighter paint- Charleston style) I do think it's way overdue. I would never have chosen this restaurant based on the exterior of the building. The facade' of the whole building looks rundown. A single big plant or beautiful flower pot arrangement outside would've been nice. Our first visit was just ok, my husband didn't like that we have to serve our own coffee (for a relaxing Sunday brunch?) but no big deal; especially since the price is in the higher side but we don't mind as long as it relates to the exterior design and cleanliness of the inside. With the many loyal customers, this place can be better looking, with great food and excellent customer service, this res can be a potential gem...but I'm sorry to say that I cant bring our visitors from out of town here, not until a bit of a beautification/renovation is made. I have eaten here a few times, food Is ok, but the coffee is always cold, or not hot enough. It is kept in containers that just keep it warm. You also have to get your own. My friend brought me a breakfast sandwich from here one morning and I fell in love with it! Every time that friend comes to visit, I ask for the 'fancy' breakfast sandwich. The bread is called a bagel but it is unlike any bagel I've had - it is chewy yet really soft in the middle. Today, another friend and I were in Johns Island and when we passed Sunrise Bistro around lunch, I told her all about that sandwich - so we turned around and went in! It's not much to look at from the outside but it is pretty cute and roomier than I thought on the inside. Service was fast and super friendly. They were out of plain bagels and ran out of everything bagels as we gave our order, but we were able to snag the bacon, egg and cheese on sesame bagels. Just as good as the plain of course. A great place to grab breakfast and not just due to the lack of viable breakfast options on Johns Island. A varied menu that has something for everyone including kids. A bottomless cup of coffee helps on those nights you burned on both ends. They open at 9am on Sunday and, if you're not there by 9:20, expect a short wait. My wife and I consistently try breakfast and brunch all over Charleston and Mt. Pleasant and Sunrise is as good as it gets. I don't think you can get a better breakfast anywhere in town. On top of that the prices are really fair and Jessica and the staff are an absolute delight. The best bacon in town, the best grits (pepper jack), and house biscuits that are out of this world, what else could you ask for? Some other highlights include breakfast pizza, breakfast burrito, house bagels and open face omelet's. I have been here at least 50 times now and I have never been disappointed and I have also had the best breakfast of my life. You really can't go wrong. I don't get a chance to have lunch here as much as I do breakfast but when I have it has been excellent. Just like everything else it is always fresh and delicious. I especially like the chicken salad and the herb bred. This place is truly a neighborhood gem with a real community feel and really one of the reasons we love the island so much. A long-time staple of Johns Island with fantastic pricing. As a long-time Johns Islander, this is always my pick for a place to go. The food is always great, as is the service and I'll continue to patron places that have "been here" over the "come here" places. What an truly great local community dive of a breakfast and lunch cafe/diner. First, their homemade bread with enriched rosemary and olive oil is just "wow". I love this place! I have been here probably 4-5 times over the past couple of years, mostly for breakfast. Their omelettes are like egg pizzas; they take up the whole plate! I haven't had one I didn't really like; they're all great. They had a little bit of a wait today (Saturday), but we got in pretty quick, and surprisingly got food quickly. I'd had the Xpress version downtown many times (big fan of the Texas Stacker), but never tried the main location until today. My family wanted to go see the Angel Oak, so this was in the perfect place for breakfast or lunch without the uppity, entitled, and overemphasized "Brunch" title. My group mostly got sandwiches, and they all looked great. My breakfast pizza (intrigued) came with an omelet of your choice on top (more intrigued). The sausage gravy that drew me in on the menu however was conspicuously downplayed or straight out missing. Blessedly much bigger than the downtown Xpress integration, we were able to get seated in under 10 minutes, when I expected it to be busiest on a weekend. All the staff were incredibly attentive and present yet not to the extent of overbearing. We had a great time with great food and I'm continually impressed by what John's Island has to offer to the restaurant community. read more

Amazing food, service, and overall experience. We visited from New Jersey and our air bnb host recommended this place. We came here TWO DAYS IN A ROW. First day I had the fried chicken and waffles with sausage gravy and it was everything I needed. A little syrup and hot sauce and it was a southern sweet spice dream. My girlfriend had the Hungry Howie breakfast and everything was perfectly cooked and fresh. The wait staff are so kind and gracious and work their tails off. Warning: the place gets really busy so be prepared to wait. Our first day we came and within 5 minutes got spots at the bar. Our second day we waited for about 25 minutes but we're glad to! This is one of my favorite breakfast spots on the island. There is always a line out the door. There is a lot of seating inside with the ability to seat land ge parties. I have had several items off of the menu, but my favorite is the fried chicken omelet. They also have coffee bar, which lets you make your coffee just how you want it. Went here for a late breakfast and absolute enjoyed the food. I ordered the "Hungry Howie" plate and opted for the potatoes (with onions and green peppers) and it was delicious. My wife ordered the veggie open face omelet and loved it. My son got the breakfast pizza topped with the Western omelette and if was awesome. Sat down and took 12 minutes to take order and there were 9 empty tables of around 15 Could be because we were there at 1030 but still servers were milking around the cash register. One peeve I like to be served my coffee not get it from a vacuum can like when I go to circle k. Med omelette was good. I'll come back but Early Bird hits the mark with faster service and largep portions If this place worked harder on service it would be a 5. They took 5 off for the service lacking.
