Small old town cafe charm with very good food but slow to be served. A couple others around us got their meals faster than us, so we'll be returning to give them another shot. The 3 egg omelete (byo) was really good and a good value. The coffee wasn't to bad either. Omelete was not overcooked, and or cooked to fast as so many cafes do banging out plates. Not sure why it has taken me so long before I came here but Im glad I made it here. It was recommended to me and I thought it's a cafe / grill been to one been to them all, not true. The ingredients are so fresh and the cooks prepare the food to perfection. The breakfast tacos are bomb. No tap needed whatever they put on is gold. Wife built her own omlet and it was amazing. My wife and I were going to be in San Clemente mid morning so I looked for a good breakfast place on Yelp. I found the Sunrise Cafe which had plenty of good reviews and pictures. We went there and both ordered the Trestles scrambler. It was pretty good. The service was good and the place was very clean. All tables were taken inside when we got there but we didn't have to wait long at all. We will be back when we're in the area. read more

On Sunday my 2 daughters son in law ,grand daughter and husband went to the cafe to have lunch we ordered our food but we had change something so my husband went up to the counter and saw the cook making the Mac and cheese which was Kraft. My daughter has seizures and for what ever reason something in the processed foods triggers the seizures so I'm so thankful he caught that. I figure when your paying 5.99 for a child's meal that maybe we should no we are getting processed food. I can cook from home . The food was not great but service was amazing. The Sunrise has the best quality food, prepared extremely well with great presentation. The service is friendly and promote. My favorite for breakfast is the Ortega highway with a side of sliced Avocado ! For lunch you can't beet the Rubin with home made onion rings. read more

Beware of the poor service today with waiter Marcos! Served me the peanut butter shake instead of the chocolate I ordered. set it in front of me and I asked this is the chocolate and said yes! took a scoop and now have had an allergic reaction! I made reservations for a large party for Sunday breakfast and arrived early. We were greeted warmly and led to our table. Within 60 seconds we realized it was too noisy for my elderly parents (clearly not a normal statenof affairs, just happened to be a couple of loud tables). The owner did not hesitate and made a group of tables outside for us. We felt so welcome. And the food....omg. Something for every taste. Made to order. Impeccable service. We had our granddaughter, who has just started to toddle, and the staff were adorable with her! Thank you for a lovely meal. We eat here at least once every three weeks for breakfast. They are quick and the vibe is nice for breakfast. I have eaten at the bar stools next to kitchen, that can be fun too. I prefer eating outside and watching the cars and cyclist drive by. There is always one really loud motorcycle that drives by but it is still worth sitting outside for the people watching. My favorite dish is the breakfast tacos. This dish is a one of a kind. I recently had the waitress sub out the hash browns for cauliflower and I really like how it came out. Their bacon is great too! San Clemente has a lot of great breakfast places and as a local I can tell you this isn't one of them. The food is mediocre at best and the service is slow, all of which I could live with until my experience today. It was busy but there were still were probably 2-3 empty table during most of the time I was there. I was meeting a friend and she was about 15-20 minutes late, traffic on El Camino Real. I get a table and wait. After about my friend arrives we wait about 15 minutes to order. Another 40 minutes for the food. The eggs benedict arrived cold and inedible. the sauce was a gloppy, lumpy greenish thing that looks like it just came out of a can. We go to pay, because no one was coming to our table for another 15 minutes after we were done. My friend is really unhappy, so she asks for a refund for meal, which she mostly didn't eat. The owner comes up and rather than saying "I'm sorry the food wasn't to your liking" or even asking what was wrong, tells me that we were at the table for two hours and they were very busy, she was losing money on the table. Duh!!! Do things quicker, do your job, don't blame me. I offer to pay for the full bill, and I think the owner, sensing a bad review, begrudgingly adjusts the bill. Not an "I'm sorry you weren't satisified", or "what could we do better", nothing. Look, there are a lot of great breakfast places in San Clemente. Try Antoines, Cafe Rae, Cafe Mimosa, the Grill, San Clemente Cafe, all locally owned and run by people that actually care how good their food is and whether or not their customers are happy. Hell, even Denny's does a better job. If you are visiting town, or a local like me, you can do better than Sunrise Cafe. read more

Prepare yourself for a long wait if you come to this place. It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered breakfast to the time it was delivered to our table. We ordered two Surfer Lite plates (2 eggs, bacon and toast) and a short stack of pancakes. It wasn't busy so I'm not sure why it took so long to be served but the cooks didn't seem to be in any hurry to cook the breakfast. This was my first and last visit to this place. read more

The food is great, the service good, although seems the owner is Asian and burns inscents, and I found it very disturbing to sit and try to enjoy my morning meal with the gagging effects of the smoldering sticks. I am very sensitive to odd smells, my nose was running when I left. The lingering smell messed with the good aroma of fresh coffee brewing,and food smell being prepared nearby, love the smell of bacon being prepared in the AM. I am not against one religious beliefs, but I should not have to try to enjoy my AM meal with that overwhelming burning of inscent. read more

The owner of best breakfast around the corner recommended this place because he was closed. The place was pretty full but my wife and I didn't have to wait long to be seated. Once we were seated the service was really slow. It took nearly 50 minutes to receive french toast and eggs. I will wait forever for great amazing food but this was not the case. I have to update my last post because I had one of my worst service experiences here ever. It's always just been my boyfriend I who grab breakfast but my parents were in town so we took them to Sunrise. It was more crowded than usual but we were still seated relatively quickly. Took us 15 minutes to get our drink order in. The busser brought silverware out and there was leftover egg on one of the forks. It took about 30 minutes for our food to come out but it was all brought to our table at different times. First the pancakes came out which only two of us had on our order. We waited another 10 minutes for the rest of the tables food to come out only to find out the order was still not complete. We were short toast and the bacon that comes with my meal. The worst part about it was there was bacon on my plate at one point (I could tell by the bacon crumbs left on the plate) but they took it off and served it to another table. While waiting for my bacon to come out and the side of toast, the table next to us who showed up 20 minutes after us had their meals come out with bacon. Really how long does it take to make a side of toast? If you jack my bacon please bring it out before I'm done eating and don't serve it to another table. Finally I went inside to ask where the rest of our meal was. I stood awkwardly at the front while no one acknowledged me. Finally I got someone's attention and they pulled the bacon and toast sitting under the heat lamp. Lesson of this experience, don't eat at Sunrise when they are busy. read more

We have visited this breakfast spot over the years. Food is always fresh and served hot. This place can fill up with locals and out of towners on the weekend. My only complaint, my son ordered the steak and eggs menu price $11.95 but the waitress let us know it would be $13.95. Hmm maybe they should make note on the menu about the price increases and not when you order. When the front door is open the traffic on El Camino Real is loud. read more

New owners, same as Cafe Calypso in town. Place is cleaned up and they appear to be working on making it much better than the run down hole in the wall breakfast joint that it was. They say they are fixing up the lunch menu as well. SC needs a cheap bfast place. Chile Sauce on the burrito was excellent.
