I would have loved to give these guys 5 stars, but the food is just not good. We got the chorizo eggs and the machaca eggs. It reminded me of your cafeteria from grade school. You have to eat the food and don't have a choice in the matter. It's too bad they are subpar since they seem to have a local following. Maybe it was a replacement cook? But it was NOT GOOD. We stopped on our way back to LA from Oceanside and we are so glad we did! Ordered their breakfast tacos and their French toast combo, as well as much needed coffee. Call me a cynic but I typically don't expect placed like this to have stellar coffee, just "regular". But Sunrise Cafe's coffee was amazingly strong and tasty! Whatever you guys are doing to get your coffee this tasty (the beans, the water, the coffee maker, etc.), keep doing it. Next up, their b'fast tacos... Wow, best b'fast tacos I've had in a very long time. Well seasoned, good quality and plentiful! I also had half of my wife's amazing French toast. Nice sweetness to follow the tacos! They don't have the best option for a "hot" salsa for those of you who have a love for salsa. The salsa it comes with is more on the sweeter side, which isn't my go to. Their friendliness and care made the whole place welcoming in the best way for a local spot. My iced coffee was coffee shop quality, and the Acai bowl tasted fresh and had generous helpings of fruit/ granola. Service was quick, and Leslie was experienced in my causal observation, knowing which patrons wanted conversation versus time to themselves. Wife and I was looking for something new, decided on Sunrise, walk in greeted right away, told we could seat ourselves, shortly after waitress shows up and takes our drink orders. We decided on what to eat, I have the 3 breakfast tacos, w/ pancake, and bacon. My wife gets the beef and veggie, (6$) for a small cup of soup,with little beef, however it was rich in flavor and had veggies, when she first got her crackers they were stale, but informed the waitress and immediately got her more, now my tacos where great flavor everything went well however next time I will have them without the cilantro, I felt it overpowered the rest of the food. Been coming here for years now and the service/food that was provided today was extremely disappointing. Called in my order for pick up (which i do often) and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. When i showed up i told the hostess my name and watched her walk over to the cooks and hand her my order for them to start cooking it. As i sat there and watched the cooks cook my order it seemed like they had no interest in cooking at all. The food turned out awful. White Toast- was not toasted and to say there was butter on it is being generous. French fry's- were thrown in a giant brown to go back and a smaller portion then the kids side order is. Burrito- cold and dry. Cheese was not melted at all. Nothing like biting into a cold chunk of shredded cheese. Eggs were also very cold and not cooked completely. There was no wait time to be seated but our waitress did take a minute to take our order and our meals took more than 20 minutes to be served even though the place wasn't busy. I got the veggies eggs Benedict with a holandés sauce but the sauce was too thick for my liking and it was spicy which I was not expecting. I ended up not eating the meal. My daughter ordered French toast and she also didn't finish her plate, she said the French toast lacked flavor and tasted more like egg. We were just in town visiting from San Diego and decided to stop in for breakfast. There was a ton to choose from... but I took a risk and got the breakfast tacos. And they were AMAZING! I love this restaurant for breakfast, but beware of the Chilaquiles. They are not the traditional Chilaquiles that you might expect. The entree is more like nachos or a nacho salad. The Huevos rancheros was disappointing caned beans, canned salsa, non cooked tortillas. But I guess if I wanted a Mexican breakfast I should of went to a Mexican restaurant lol. We searched on Yelp and found this place to stop and grab some late breakfast while returning home from Disneyland. I point out Disneyland for a reason... We found easy parking to the rear of the business. Although a decent size crowd was present they provided us an indoor table for the 4 adults and 1 child in our group.Waters and drink orders were brought out quickly, although the coffee was not accompanied with any creamer (nor did I get a refill offer until almost done with breakfast). We ordered the following: Meat Lover Omelette (Bacon, ham, Pork sausage, mushrooms,cheese) w/ hash browns.) Buttermilk Pancakes Combo (2 light and fluffy pancakes served with 2 large eggs & 2 slices of bacon) Eggs Benedict (2 large eggs over 2 slices of thick Canadian Bacon on toasted English muffin smothered with our homemade hollandaise sauce.) Breakfast Tacos (3) (3 large eggs scrambled with ground pork sausages, homemade hash browns, cheese and topped off with picante sauce, cilantro. Served w/ homemade beans) Kid's meal (pancake, scrambled egg and bacon); with a side of fruit. Our food was brought out in a timely manner and what a shock it was to our eyeballs! Everything ordered were in huge portions! My omelette had more meat than eggs and I wasn't complaining! It tasted great, as did the hash browns being perfectly fried. The chef, seeing the wee one's Disney attire me thinks, made her a pancake into the shape of the iconic Mickey Mouse head. What a nice, thoughtful, gesture. She liked it so much she did not want to break into it, but consumed all of her eggs and bacon with bliss. The fruit bowl was stacked and very fresh! She ate some of that too, but there was plenty to go around. One of the breakfast tacos and some of the beans were taken as leftovers, which I had the pleasure of consuming later that day. They were as flavorful and delicious as mentioned to us by the DIL. My son stated his eggs benedict was one of the best he had eaten. I am giving this place the 5 star approval rating for the quality of the food and overall service we experienced in San Clemente. If we lived closer I would easily return here. Next time we are passing through, around breakfast time, we will attempt to put the Sunrise Cafe on our itinerary. read more

We are all about trying new places so this was our pick since we were going to be in the area. We sat outside since it was a beautiful Sunday. We ordered Bloody Marys to start since we got there 15 minutes early. We ordered the açaí bowl, Greek salad with gyro meat, the big bird sandwich lunch and the trestles breakfast. My salad was very good. You get a good amount of gyro meat with chopped greens, tomatoes, olives and feta cheese. Their homemade vinegarette is amazing. Very smooth and not too tart. Well my "omelet" was a mix of egg with VGs and smashed avocado in it. We didn't know that the restaurant didn't know the difference between an "omelet" and scrambled eggs. The menu reads "3 eggs" the egg was no were yo be found. My grandchild's French toasts and egg were horrible as well. Not to mention the service of thev waitress that didn't bother to come and apologize for the super long wait.
