Grabbed a quick breakfast from here one morning and this is your typical quick stop breakfast type place. I like ordering from these types of spots because the food is made to order and for the most part they can't mess your meal up. I placed my order over the phone and walked over to pick it up and by the time I arrived they had my meal ready! I had the Greek omelet and homefries as my side. Pretty typical Greek omelet and the homefries were pretty good. The meal was tasty, everything was really fresh and seasoned well. The pricing was really inexpensive, like less than $9 for my entire meal and the woman working the register was so friendly and accommodating. My husband and I were quite fooled by the 4 star reviews and decided to try them out while visiting DC...disappointed! This place is the size of a closet, very tiny. Anyway, my husband ordered the pancakes, home fries, and scrambled eggs. I ordered a sausage, bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich. And added a hash brown patty on the side. First off, a slice of my bacon was gray and looked old. I didn't eat that. And my hash brown patty wasn't even cooked! It was a frozen patty that was ice cold! They didn't even bother to heat it up! My hotel was only 2 blocks away and I know it couldn't have gotten that cold from the short walk. This place is a complete joke! My husband wasn't happy with his food either. Never again. read more

Love this place! I have been getting food here since I moved to DC (20 years ago). This little hole in the wall has the best food. It is fresh. The BBQ chicken is amazing! Can't believe this little place survived the pandemic. It is a small locally owned business as well. Unlike most of the other quick eats in DC now, which are chain restaurants. read more

I've been here multiple times -- had friendly service and good food every single time. But not today... maybe it's my fault for not going at my usual time (morning). I went in the afternoon to satisfy my craving for a breakfast sandwich. All was well until I got back to my desk at the office and thought there was no cheese. I thought to myself: "no no no there must be cheese, I definitely ordered cheese. I found it. 1/4 of a square melted into the bottom corner of my croissant... needless to say, I will not be going if it isn't during the morning rush that alone is surprising since usually the rush makes it more likely for an order to go wrong. It was definitely not even busy today. The run down: -1 star for my lack of cheese (lack of adequate/normal amount?) -1 more because it isn't my first time and I KNOW what their food is supposed to look like. It's cheap and they give you a lot of food but I don't know about the 4-5 star ratings this place is getting. I expected the food to be lot tastier from all the great reviews. I ordered the mushroom & garlic pasta for lunch. It was just okay and definitely needed a bit more flavor. There's no garlic flavor at all and as a garlic lover, I was very disappointed. The garlic bread tasted stale too. I also thought it was pasta sauteed with mushrooms and garlic. It turns out it's just pasta with red sauce that they top with some mushrooms. If you want cheap but tasty food go to the National Geographic cafeteria across the street instead. Also, this place is really more of a take out place. They have a few counter seats but be warned you will probably smell like food if you eat inside. The ventilation inside is not the best. read more

The Sunrise Cafe is one of those places where I have to say I was a little let down by my fellow Yelpers! The average of 4+ stars with so many reviews makes me think this is a must experience breakfast place. I love breakfast and wanted to see why this was so special. Well, it is not. Is it good? Absolutely! Is it 4+ stars good? No! There were a lot of construction workers in this tiny hole in the wall eatery which signaled two things to me; first, the food was well portioned for the price and second, service was fast. I was right on both accounts. The high volume gets your food to you fast which is always appreciated, but the quality is of 3 stars and not 4+. The eggs are just eggs and the home fries were a little underdone and as was the bacon which were both underwhelming. I can't say that I was actually surprised as that is what is expected for an establishment which thrives on high volume turnover for such a small establishment of primarily takeout customers. This is not to say that I wouldn't recommend Sunrise Cafe or even go back myself, it is just that I would give this 3 solid stars to level set expectations accordingly. read more

Looking for an unassuming local joint with more character than Pret a Manger, Au bon Pan and all of the rest of the typical chains? This is the place for you. First off, a warning, there is very limited seating inside and only 3-4 tables outside so you may want to plan on eating your food elsewhere which is not an issue with Farragut square a block from here. I had a vegetable omelette with toast and hashbrowns. Admittedly it would seem hard to screw that up but believe me plenty of nearby spots manage to do just that. The omelette was full of flavor and the potatoes had some nice seasoning to them as well. Overall for $8 I'll give this place my money over any of the aforementioned chains. I took the spanish omelette - its an omelette with cheddar cheese, and some spicy salsa on top of that, served with potatoes and bread. I liked it a lot - the size of the dish was just about right, I didn't feel like it was too oily, and it was very tasty. In addition, it costs only $6.75! Pretty cheap for this area. The place itself is very small and simple, with few table inside and few tables outside. The owners is an old guy and both he and the girl who cooks are very nice. BTW - as I said - the place is very very simple, so don't come with expectations for a fancy-shmancy place :) But I think that they give a good value for your money. Enjoy :) read more

I'm deducting a star because nothing here is high quality: it's unhealthy eggs and meats on toasted breads with cheese. The store front is tiny. And there are only a few places to sit. They have a great crowd of regulars and they remember orders for certain people. One guy doesn't even have to order, they just have his food ready as soon as they see him! If you are thinking about a big box restaurant, or one of the many chain coffee places, Sunrise is definitely better for food. At least get food here and then go sit at the other place with a coffee.
