I had an amazing dinner at Sunset 44 Bistro in Kirkwood, Missouri. I ordered their pork chop daily special that came with a 12-oz bone in chop, potatoes, roasted vegetables, and the chop was topped with gorgonzola cheese sauce and a balsamic vinegar reduction on top that tasted wonderful. For a starter I ordered the arancini that is an Italian appetizer that is made with Italian risotto that's balled up, breaded, and deep-fried and comes with a delicious marinara sauce and is great. Sunset 44 Bistro is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service and I can't wait to go back and when I do I'll want to try their sauerbraten, one of my favorite German dishes.

It was our monthly night out with our County friends. They chose Sunset 44 Bistro. A quaint little place. Great food with a lot of options. We met Bob at the door. I said" Oh are you the manager"? Boob said " Sort of, Iam the owner". So that is how I met Bob Menendez the owner of Sunset 44. Bob was awesome he showed us to our table. Made sure we were comfortable and then immediately went to set up another table and help a server with a large order getting the food for the table placed in the tight order. A lot of pride in his business and it shows. Thanks Bob!. The food was great I had the pistachio chicken. It was fabulous a blend of sweet creamy sauce not salty but just good mouth feel. I had the house white a good Chardonnay that went well with the chicken. The wine was dry but complimented the dish perfectly. The table bread was a flatbread with a hummus that also paired well together. If you looking for a great meal with great service and an owner who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Visit Bob at Sunset 44 for an awesome evening out. I recommend this place for any occasion you will not be disappointed.

Amazing food and exceptional service by Angeline. We were especially impressed when we overheard a nearby table tell the owner how much they appreciated how he always had a to-go bag ready for their elderly mother who had previously been a regular patron. Customers are treated like family here.

I've enjoyed holiday meals at Sunset 44 for the last few years but this was my first time trying the regular menu. A friend and I stopped in for an early dinner before a STAGES show and it was delicious. We shared a very decently priced bottle of wine and ordered salads to start. For dinner, I got the Cajun pasta. It was a huge portion and so delicious! I wish the weather was cooler so I could have taken my leftovers! The pacing of the meal would have been fine on another night, but we had to rush to eat our entrees to finish within the 90 min we had to make the show.

I'm so glad we finally were able to dine-in on Friday. Last year, when restaurants could not have dine-in services, we took a chance and ordered our holiday dinner from Sunset 44 Bistro and we were blown away by the delicious food we took home! Additionally, the person I spoke to on the phone when placing my order was very pleasant and personable and sometimes, the little things can really make or break the experience. On Friday night, I decided to make reservations here. We were able to get a table for 6PM. Parking was a bit tricky but the parking lots by the building actually has signs stating that apartments and restaurant patrons are authorized to park there. When we got in, we were seated immediately. Our waitress, whose name escapes me at the moment was very attentive and pleasant. We started out with some drinks. I had a glass of cabernet and my husband had a beer. Then we ordered some smoked trout to start. We have had their smoked trout before during another curb-side order occasion and we both enjoyed it. Their lavoush are so crisp and perfect to go with the smoked trout. For my main, I ordered a filet mignon medium rare serviced over mashed potato, green beans and some marchand de vin. It was simply amazing! The filet was 6 oz but I could not eat the entire thing. Maybe because I also saved a little bit of room for dessert? Speaking of dessert, I completed our meal with not one but 2 scoops of their homemade peach ice cream served with some whipped cream, sliced peaches and fresh berries. Yum! I was already impressed with Sunset 44 Bistro before actually being able to dine here but our dine-in visit only solidified my love for this wonderful establishment. I cannot wait to come back and dine-in again or pick up a curbside order from this restaurant in the very near future!

    A wonderful main course!

Delightful staff, menu with a good variety of options, all well prepared and an excellent wine list. I'll make Sunset 44 one of the best restaurants in Kirkwood. I had the wedge salad which was uniquely prepared along with the fillet. A delightful bottle of a Napa cab called quilt, 2019 vintage really complemented the meal. Prices for a nice meal were very reasonable.

Had a tremendous Mother's Day here with the parents and in laws. I was impressed by their diverse menu!

OpenTable showed a reservation available here, so we finally decided to give it a try--and we're so glad we did. Everything was fantastic. I started with the Green Turtle cocktail, made with Broker's Gin, cucumber, and basil, while my wife enjoyed a glass of Friulano. We opted to share several small plates, which turned out to be the perfect choice. We started with the Brussels sprouts and the goat cheese with bread, both excellent. I also had a cup of the chowder, which may have been my favorite thing of the entire meal. My wife ordered the nightly salad special with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and balsamic dressing, and it was fresh and delicious. We considered ordering the flatbread as well, but by the time we finished everything else, we were completely stuffed. The service was spot-on from start to finish, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and everything was very reasonably priced. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

We're not regulars by any stretch of the imagination, but we've been here a number of times over the years. Sometimes it's just my husband and me, sometimes family members join us, and we've brought friends here as well. Nobody has ever not been happy they came here! We had a reservation and were greeted and seated right away. They have a big blackboard where they write the special drinks of the day, so I always have to check that out! They have small plates and entrees there. We almost always do all small plates. The exception is the shrimp and grits because we really like it! This time we did all small plates. The stuffed portabellini mushrooms were a newer menu item and they were SO good! I could have ordered more of those and been fine without anything else! Our next favorite was the oven baked goat cheese. We literally get it every time we come here and it's always delicious. Then we had the Nashville Chicken Sliders. They're good, but nothing super special. Our last item was the short rib street tacos. I'll just say we won't order them again. They weren't bad, but they were lacking in flavor. My cocktail was from the specials list. It was the Bitter Bonfire - made with mezcal - and it was so good! I think my husband had a Manhattan. We will, of course, be back again!

Since then, Olive + Oak has moved to its current location, which is spacious, airy and filled with light. And somehow, our experience last night was even better than what I remembered. I was having dinner with three friends I used to work with, and Abby, our server, was outstanding from start to finish. I arrived first and had a chance to chat with her before everyone else got there. Her energy and personality immediately stood out, and I knew she was going to be a hit with our group. Hard to believe she has been at Olive + Oak for only six months. She kept taking care of us throughout the evening. She really wanted us to try the grilled carrots, so she brought us an order on the house. Later, one of the managers stopped by with wine glasses and poured us some wine, also compliments of the restaurant. Those unexpected touches made an already great evening even more memorable. With four of us, we were able to explore quite a bit of the menu. We started with the Chicken Wings, Charred Octopus and Lion's Mane Steak. All three were distinctive and delicious. The Fried Green Tomato Salad was enormous, easily enough for all four of us to share, and packed with flavor. We learned it was leaving the menu after that night, so our timing was pretty good. For my entrée, I had the Grilled Flank Steak with crispy Parmesan potatoes, along with a side of Olive + Oak fries. Incredible. The fries were world-class, and Abby even tracked down some barbecue sauce for me to dunk them in. And those Grilled Carrots Abby insisted we try? Wow! Definitely one of the surprises of the night. We finished by sharing two new desserts, the Cloud Cake and Samoa Cookie Cake. Both were super delicious and a great way to end the meal. We ultimately spent more than three hours at Olive + Oak, and never once felt rushed. We were there to reconnect, tell stories and enjoy being together again. Great food certainly mattered, but the warm, attentive service made the evening even better. Eight years was way too long between visits. Olive + Oak remains my favorite St. Louis restaurant.

My crab cakes (croquettes) tasted fine but the texture was mushy and wet. My husband had scallops served in a light Gruyère sauce--an interesting choice mixing cheese and fish. I had a spoonful of the sauce; it was lovely. The server said in winter they serve it over pasta which totally makes sense. We both tried the French onion soup having heard it was a must try. For both of us it was a miss. I love salty foods but even for me it was too much. Plus the soggy bread (croutons?) beneath the melted cheese was just unnecessary. Who wants pieces of bread that just falls apart floating in their soup? Is that a thing? My saumon à la moutarde was scrumptious! It had a nice crust and the mustard flavor was perfection! The side veggies of carrot, beans, and a piece of aubergine (zucchini) were fine, heavily buttered as expected. A side of gratin dauphinois was acceptable, but again, so heavily buttered and baked until the potatoes were between tender and mushy. The top layer had a chew, but not a satisfying contrast. We shared a crème brûlée for dessert and found it just okay, a great sugar coat on top, but the custard unremarkable. At the bottom of the ramekin, the custard had scalded. The server was polite, but he didn't ask if it was our first time there (it was) or offer to explain anything on the menu. He had great rapport with the tables adjacent to us, laughing and joking with them. I guess maybe they were regulars. Later, I joked to my husband that we failed to entertain our server. It was weird. Finally, they didn't acknowledge my birthday, which I'd noted on our reservation. The restaurant we went to for my husband's birthday made a point of celebrating discreetly and nicely.
