We've been eating at Sunset Alehouse for many many years and have always enjoyed the food. We have a young toddler and thought it'd be fun to get her a meal for herself. This kid eats everything, loves trying new, so we got her a kids cheeseburger...her first cheeseburger of her own. She took one bite and spit it out. We ended up trying it and it was by far one of the worst burgers we've ever tried. We opted for veggies as her side and they were soaked in butter and over seasoned. If you yourself wouldn't eat it, how dare you serve such horrible quality products to a child. I'm glad she didn't wind up getting food poisoning. For roughly $3 more I could have gotten her the adult burger which would have been better quality. Not to mention the patty was wafer thin and obviously frozen ahead of time. read more

This is a great place to watch the Seahawks win! Service, drinks and food is all good... as are the customers! I love the Tuna Melt with jalapenos... it is very good, as are the tater-tots! This week, my meal came with ketchup in a plastic dish on my tray. I find this unfortunate use of resources as the size of the container means it cannot be recycled and is landfill-bound. There seems to be a widening groundswell of places that want to be just regular old bars in concept and execution, but to make all the important details really nice. You walk into Sunset and it seems at first like a good-natured, nice neighborhood watering hole, and you're perfectly glad of that. But the beer list, menu, and staff bespeak a nicer place. From the outside, it's a regular bar with a little patio. A pizza place shares the patio. Inside, there are lots of TVs with sports showing, there are booths and tables here, highboys there, a bar in the back. Even though it's separated by half a block, it looks like it could be the lounge part of Jak's Issaquah location, if you've been in there--lots of blond wood. No fabric anywhere. Pretty high noise level. But in a fairly boisterous, fun, way. The service is quick and efficient, from the hostess through the server. Even the expediter is really nice. And that can probably be taken as a sign that they are running this place way more like a restaurant than a bar--there was an expediter on the floor on an ordinary Wednesday night. The beer list is really solid. A couple dozen bottles, maybe 15 taps. They're serious, the beers are well chosen. It's not a mecca for beer geeks, but a beer geek can certainly enjoy himself here without too much thought. Food was really good. They focus on burgers and sandwiches, which feels like a bar, but the descriptions all made them sound upscaled a bit. Appetizers were mostly fried, which wasn't really my favorite thing, but they did have a bacon-wrapped scallop and some hummus, neither of which I decided to try. Best of all, the menu features several steaks from Jak's, as well as their lobster mac & cheese. It's a Jak's presentation all the way--thick-cut carrots, broccoli, the fancy potatoes. I got a huuuuuge ribeye for $28. The edges didn't look too medium rare, but that's fine for the edges. Great steak. I would definitely come back--it's essentially Jak's with a much looser atmosphere. read more

Want to start by saying that I love this place. Service is always spot on. However. Menu changes and portion changes and price hikes are not good. Favorite sandwich the sunset cheese steak is now all bread. French fry portion is now tiny and there is very little meat in the sandwich. It also costs $5 more than it used to. For what it is, it's pretty cool. It's a neighborhood bar with pub style food and lots of TVs -- in every corner. And beer. Lots of beer. They have your typical burgers, fish n chips, gumbo, hot dog, etc. I thought it took awhile to make our food although I didn't keep track of time. I just went by my belly's response. Tater tots were awesome, but who can do wrong with tater tots? I ordered a tuna melt which was pretty good. There's also a couple of outside tables, but if you plan to do that you better hurry because summer is about over. Restrooms: Only one for each sex. No stalls. Just one bathroom with a door and lock so plan accordingly. They have one of those food challenges, but I didn't pay too close of attention because there's no way I could seriously eat that much food in one sitting. Any who... seems like a lot of restaurants are doing this nowadays and it would be cool if you beat the challenge that the food is free. I mean what's the point of doing it right? Bragging rights? We enjoyed this place. Came for lunch as a family on a weekend. Not too busy and we sat inside. There are tv's on, and the place had several families in it. The menu was varied and they have a seasonal menu as well. Our choice on that was all sold out though. We ordered and drinks were kept full. Server was friendly. Meal came out but mine was wrong. Server immediately put in correct meal....and I watched the family eat. Husband had the fried chicken/potatos/gravy. It was delish!!! Daughter had a huge sandwich. It was yummy. My son had a buffalo chicken appetizer....ok, this order was large and great tasting. My food soon arrived. I had a breakfast benedict meal. It was super tasty and just enough food, not too much. Just finished a day of hiking and wanted to try a different place in Issaquah. I did some research on Yelp of course and looked like a good place to try. They are owned by the same owners of Jaks Grill so that also helped in my selection. Jak's Grill is good!! Quick to be greeted at the door and this place was getting busy fast due to it being dinner time. We choose to sit in the bar for happy hour and take advantage of that. We ordered the onion rings which prepared well and very tasty. So that was a good start. Anyhow I ordered steak sandwich, which is basically a french dip, but this one had a new york steak prepared to a perfect medium with a great toasted roll and fantastic Au Jus. The wife had the fettuccine, which was equally impressive. I was definitely not expecting this type of food from here. I am definitely a fan of this place and strongly recommend trying them out. read more

Saturday lunch rush. Seated within minutes with menus. Morgan got us some drinks. We ordered upon her return. Wide assortment of sports on the many TVs (2 football, 2 baseball, US tennis open) Family friendly. Great menu. Sports on tv and everyone having conversations, a little confusion on my order (ordered turkey melt got tuna melt). All was straightened out and I had the right sandwich in good time. Service was spot on. With all the different sports on the TVs, we got a bit paranoid about Husky game being on, without fail the Husky game was on all TVs that I could see. Whilst home for Christmas, my family and I decided we wanted to go to the Issaquah Brewhouse. One look at a fire truck with Santa on it outside of the place, we knew we were screwed. BUT this place is right by it! Phew. It's a well laid out place with big screen TVs with that night's sports on. The list of beer is kind of limited - and the draft list wasn't current so what beers were actually available were hit and miss. Thumbs down on that silliness. I got myself their burrito - and I will tell you what - that thing is HUGE. I got it with chicken (though steak is available) and it was stuffed with beans, rice, sour cream, onions, cilantro & a few kinds of cheeses. Topped with guac & SC. I'd surely recommend getting it "wet" as well. I left stuffed to the brim. The burrito was a good deal but I will say $5 or more for a pint does seem steep for Issy. Our waitress was perky and nice, and quite attentive as well. I think once this place is up and fully working, it'll be a great place to go consistently. read more

I am visiting the area and was tired of fast food from the long trip here. I just wanted something green and thankfully, I came across Sunset Alehouse. I ordered the Santa Fe Salad and added chicken and it was delicious!! The half size order was more than enough and I wasn't able to finish it all. I am a ranch snob, and their ranch was delicious!!! Good Mexican food, good bar food, and friendly staff in downtown Issaquah The bloody Marys were good, spicy but not overdone. The steak sandwich had a reasonable steak inside. The chile verde had good chunks of meat, which were tender and well-marinated. The huevos rancheros was spicy and good. We were expecting good hamburgers, but their mexican food was outstanding. On the other hand, the strip-mall-like location was underwhelming, and the interior atmosphere got partway past that, but not completely. If there were half-stars, I would rate this 3.5 stars (better than average, but not great). read more

I've never got to try Sunset for brunch until today and it is just as good as the rest of the food here. Not only that but all there brunch dishes are only $8.88! I had their Southwest Benedict which was good. They make it with cornbread and chorizo. I thought their hollandaise sauce was a little cheesy but it actually worked out really well with the benedict. They side the benedict with tater tots that taste just like taco time's. I also ordered the "Man-mosa" which was the topper to the meal. Hey here's a novel idea...PAY THEM YOURSELF WITH ALL THE PROFITS YOU MAKE FROM YOUR VARIOUS RESTAURANTS. On the check it reads " We proudly support living wages." Don't you mean, "Our patrons will be supporting/supplementing our kitchen's staff wages because we want to further line our pockets and the burden should be passed on to our customers." They claim they chose not to raise prices in lieu of this ridiculous fee instead. Really? That's interesting because they used to have 8 breakfast meals for $8.88 and now it's $9.90. That's nearly a 12% price increase. Our family will NEVER return here or any of the other restaurants they own. As longtime residents of Issaquah we will take our business elsewhere. Sunset Alehouse was all set up for great outdoor dining with COVID. Had tables with heaters under a tent. I had their prime rib dip with au jus and their cole slaw. I had a similar dish at Malarkeys' sport bar a few weeks ago and both were good but Sunset Alehouse version was better. The bread was good and well-toasted and the meat was cooked perfectly. Au jus was great and the slaw was ones I have had. Many vegetables sliced nice and small and a little zing with a hint of jalapeno. Food came out quickly. Very good. read more

Went here for a quick dinner last night. It was completely packed but we got a table in just 5 minutes which was kinda nice. I ordered the 3 Chili Silly burger and requested it medium rare. When it came out, the burger was more medium well and brown. The patty itself is really think and is bound to be overcooked which was unfortunate. The burger was also quite uneven. All the lettuce was to one side while the house silly pepper mix was just all dolloped onto the center rather than spread evenly. Due to this, there were some really hot and spicy bites while others were wet and bland because the lettuce hadn't been wiped down after washing it and was still wet. The ingredients all tasted nice and in the bites that did have everything in uniformity, it was great, but it's annoying to have to open up and re-distribute things inside a burger halfway through eating it. The tots that came with the burger were excellent and I'd recommend them. My wife for the Sunset Burger with a Veggie Patty. The patty was like a hockey puck. It was just really hard and dry and impossible to chew or swallow. When the server first came to ask us how things were, she hadn't started on it yet and was still working the slaw which was actually nice so we said things were fine. However, two bites in, she realized that it was impossible to eat that burger. The patty was impossible and everything else was unseasoned. We tried to call our server but it was a busy Friday night so didn't manage. Since we had post-dinner plans and were running late, she finally gave up and just took the patty out and ate the bread with the onions, tomatoes and extra avocado that she had requested(which was also unseasoned). It's not really the server's fault, just unfortunate timing. Overall the burgers, especially the veggie, were huge fails. The sides were both quite nice but it was annoying to pay $14 for a bun with onions, tomatoes, avocado and slaw. I did leave them a note letting them know what happened along with my name and number but I'm not sure if they'll call. I might like to give them another shot since it could have just been an off night but right now I'm not so sure I will. read more

Beyond shocked at the horrible service today. I was at the entrance of the outside seating, waiting for someone to put my name on the list for an outside table. I had my dog with me, so I couldn't enter the building door. A woman and her son walked by me and entered the building. My daughter arrived to join me, so she went in to put our name on the list. She explained that we were there before, the woman and son were. We waited about 15 minutes, when the outside table was available they sat the woman and her son. When I went in to ask why, the manager said they had to seat whoever walked in the door first. Isn't the opening to the outside seating considered part of the establishment? Also, very disappointed in the lesson this mother just showed her son!!! read more

One of our fave places for good food or take out in Issaquah. My kids LOVE the hot wings, I like the cheesesteaks, and my man likes the carne asada plate.
