Fun place for happy hour, watching the sun set and Jell-O shots ha! Spicy margaritas was very spicy (warning)

It pains me to give such a low rating. Amazing waterfront view, but that's about it. Luckily, there are numerous places in the Keys with beautiful views as well. I was excited to check out this place. We originally came in to enjoy some fruity cocktails in their cute tiki mugs, but for whatever reason, the server did not bring the drinks out. I don't know, our server seemed moody. There was some confusion with my breakfast order. I asked for the Florida Keys Eggs benedict but ended up with a chorizo benedict instead. I should have kept this dish because my original order was quite disappointing. There is also a disparity between the prices online and the actual prices on their menu. By far the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The experience was terrible from the start. We were seated, and both tables next to us--who arrived after us--had their water served and orders taken before we were even acknowledged. We ordered the Mac and cheese with crab and their paella. On a weekday at 4 PM, when the restaurant wasn't even half full, the food took over an hour to arrive. After waiting about 40 minutes, my 1-year-old was getting cranky, so I politely asked the front desk if we could move tables before the food arrived. I was flat-out denied and told we couldn't change tables because we were already seated--something I couldn't understand, especially since I was asking for my child's comfort. I went back to my table and waited patiently. Around the 50-minute mark, I asked our actual waiter the same thing, and he said it was fine. So we moved. A few minutes after moving, the food finally arrived--60 to 75 minutes after we ordered. And that's when things got even worse. * The Mac and cheese with crab was awful--a watery, flavorless cheese soup with no trace of crab. * The paella? Even worse. One spoonful was enough for me to leave the entire plate untouched. No one from the staff even bothered to ask if the food was okay. The only good thing about this place is the view. Everything else--service, food, and experience--was terrible. I will never come back and definitely do not recommend this restaurant. read more

Looks fun but really something like a two. So I liked my eggs and I thought the bloody Mary was was pretty good but our waitress was in a mood, dour, and wasn't very nice to the people around us. There were also a few misgivings, a misunderstanding with the order one of us had to send back, and she basically blew us off like we were a bother when we asked about those really cool specialty drinks they do up in the tiki mugs which is really the reason we shopped them anyway. She even completely forgot about our drink reorder and so we left, went home, ordered some tiki mugs online, and made up our own drinks. ...it's true. lol Rubbery shimps and mushy crab in the benedict ruined whatever was special about it except the price. The manager takes care of his staff, over the customer. Bus boy misunderstood or did not clearly hear what I said; I went back to speak to the manager to clear it up; and the manager told me "it has not been resolved." (twice) I am no longer welcome at the establishment. Therefore, I cannot recommend this place. Remember when the customer was right? read more

Had a while to wait at the bar to order a drink form my wife and myself. She had a pina colada I have a margarita. We could taste no alcohol and either of the drinks. Horrible service. Food is at best decent. It wasn't very busy and still took almost 2hrs for us to get our food. Ordered 3 of the dolphin drinks for our kids and they only brought out 2 took them 30mins to get the 3rd one out which was a joy trying to explain to a 5yr old and 2 2yr olds why there was only 2 cups thankfully our kids are easy to reason with. My wife has a gluten allergy which was stated multiple times to the server and they failed to bring out the right meal 3 times. The correct meal was not brought out until we asked for the chef to come out and talk to us. After three wrong meals and almost 3.5hrs of waiting they finally brought out the blackened mahi and rice she ordered. My opinion go to McDonald's and get a fish sandwich would be a better plan than going to this restaurant. read more

The food is decent, the service is atrocious. The wait staff is more concerned with being on their phones than waiting on customers. The bar had trash rolling around for more than an hour. I am really surprised to see the low stars for the sunset Grill. I've been there several times, and the food has always been very good, they are really busy during the winter months, but you can still get in. During the last hurricane the pier was destroyed, but the pool is still open and the food is still very good. They have ample parking easy and easy out. read more

What a fun place! This restaurant sits right on the water overlooking the sunset (hence the name). They have a pool and it felt like a fun party spot. However, with that said, we went as a family and it was a great family dinner location! The wait was long, but we got drinks while we waited. They have a great selection of fun, tropically inspired drinks that come in various complimentary glasses for a reasonable price. The food was okay, but the views and the atmosphere really added to the dinner experience. Definitely a top spot to check out! read more

It been a few years since being here, which we have been here many times before. Food quality has suffered. Hogfish sandwich was a big disappointment. Very small piece of fish. Bread swallowed it up. I recently visited this beautiful and fun place again. If you go, don't go for food. Here, embedded in a seafood culture, they do not serve fresh, Florida Keys seafood. I got a dinner entree combination. It was EASY, because I live here, to tell the difference between fresh seafood from frozen packaged foods that could be foreign or farmed. Shrimp, scallops, fish and/or other foods, even French fries, were just common, frozen items supplied by a restaurant supply company. Sunset Grille is always on our list of places to visit while in the keys. The atmosphere is fun and it's a great place for a family with kids. Our kids enjoy a dip in the pool while we wait on our food. The views are beautiful. The dock has some beautiful fish and views to see. The staff are so nice. The service is super fast and we never have to wait long for our food which is impressive for such a busy spot! My husband loves their famous hogfish sandwich. We always enjoy their sushi and we've tried several appetizers. The crab Rangoon, queso, Cajun fries with bacon & cheese, cheese curds..all delicious and freshly prepared! Amazing food! Great place to sit and have a meal right on the water. We came for breakfast one morning-an easy walk from Isla Bella resort where we stayed. Breakfast was really good and affordable. Decided to come back a different day for lunch, and it was even better. The best cheese curds and Coconut shrimp we've probably ever had. Also the burger was a top 10, which says a lot as we are foodies. Highly recommend, it is literally the last place before the seven mile bridge. read more

My friends and I decided to stop at sunset grille for cocktails after it being recommended from some of our friends down here we sat at the downstairs tiki bar which I was pleased to find out had a pool beside it with lounge chairs and games. Daniel was our lovely bartender very handsome young man and attentive. His detail and knowledge of mixology was astonishing. We loved the service and ambiance so much we decided to stay for some food and watch the sunset. We ordered from their Sunday funday special The food that was coming from the outdoor food truck was great very tasty along with that we order a couple things off the regular menu which could've been better but overall have no complaints. My fiancé and I vacationed in the keys a couple weeks ago and we made a stop at this restaurant early afternoon because it was right on the water and we were looking for a good bite. We were very happy we did. The drinks (even though a bit strong) were very delicious and you got to keep the fun glasses that they came in! The food was great. We started with the California roll, the Brussel sprout chips (these were seasoned perfectly), the rotisserie chicken grilled cheese (tasty enough that I would fly back just for this sandwich), and the steak bowl. The sushi was so good that we made sure to come back on our last night in the keys to celebrate getting engaged! We got sushi rolls this time and whereas I'm forgetting the names of the rolls we got, they were all very fresh and flavorful. Service was a bit slow but that's just because it was so busy and everywhere is looking for people to hire. So I'm not holding that against them. The waitresses were so friendly and helpful. And! Someone overheard us talking to someone on facetime about how we had just got engaged that day that they had a slice of key lime pie sent to our table for us! The waitress kept her promise and didn't out the customers that did this so if you're reading this whomever you are, thank you so incredibly much! We will definitely pay it forward! Such a fun find! At the entrance or exit of the 7 mile bridge depending on which way you're going. It's very tiki bar style with open air seating when you walk in-but there's also a bar and restaurant seating poolside. The menu is HUGE and we couldn't decide what to order, so we ordered all the things: she crab soup, sushi, pork belly, and barbecue bacon wrapped shrimp with fries. Then I noticed they had a dinner special of hog fish, so I went back that night and had dinner under a tiki hut on the beach. While talking with my servers they mentioned that like everywhere else, there is a problem getting staff. So if sometimes the service is a little slow, or you see empty tables and wonder why you're not being seated, it's just because there's not enough help. Not so the service when you see tables seated after you receiving their main courses, while you sit twiddling your thumbs and hope that any second yours will arrive. Our waitress forgot about us completely and never submitted our order after our appetizer. When I stopped her and asked if she had forgotten us and how much longer the wait would be, she admitted her mistake but even being on island time, it was too much for us to wait another thirty minutes. There was no offer of any type of compensation, I would have expected at least a drink or a small credit but it wasn't forthcoming. That, in my opinion is poor service.
