Came to The Local in Pacific Beach with a large party, and unfortunately, the experience was a big disappointment. Our server was very unfriendly and inattentive. Our waters were never refilled, they rarely checked on us, and the only time they came over seemed to be at the start to ask if we wanted another drink. At one point, they walked away for about 40 minutes and were gossiping inside with other staff while we were left waiting. We eventually had to flag them down ourselves just to ask for a water refill and place our order. The food was okay and the drinks were decent, but the service really took away from the experience for us. Full disclosure: I'm a Bills fan so this is review is from that perspective. This should be on every Bills fan's bucket list. This is hands down the best Bills Backer bar I've ever been to. You should come here for a game and sit in the outside rooftop area (which overlooks the ocean). What makes this place special besides the beach? Great DJ, incredible service and even a mascot shows up. On top of that they have an incredible tap selection and also Labatt. This was one of the highlights of my trip and if I'm ever in the area will always stop by on game day. THE LOCAL @ PACIFIC BEACH Parking is available for street, if you're lucky you can easily snatch one on the street that Local is located in. First time coming in, there was a short line for ID checks, this is a bar that's pretty popular for the college scene. Stepping in, I loved how they had a patio outside, and both upstairs and downstairs had different music. Bathrooms were very clean, drinks were affordable, and I really like how much space there was here. No cover either! The music was good downstairs, definitely wished it was reflected both downstairs and upstairs because I liked the vibe of upstairs more but music was better downstairs. Overall, looks like a great spot to get drinks and hang out with some friends. I felt extremely discriminated against when entering this establishment. My white friends were allowed in without issue, but when my friend and I, both women of color, arrived, the bouncer, "Louis", particularly, was immediately rude and dismissive toward us, although the other bouncer at the door was willing to let us in without issue. He claimed that my friend was "overly intoxicated," despite her being completely capable of entering, and made the inappropriate comment that she had "her ass out," when she was not dressed in a way that warranted such a remark. That was an incredibly disrespectful and derogatory comment to make toward a woman. I politely asked to speak with a manager about the situation, but Louis refused to let me speak with anyone and stated that he was the "manager in charge." I found the entire interaction extremely unprofessional and discriminatory, especially given the difference in how my white friends were treated compared to us. I will not be returning to this establishment, and I am deeply disappointed by the way this situation was handled. I hope the actual management takes the time to seriously address how guests, particularly women and people of color, are being treated at the door. read more

The local is a two story bar on one of the main strips in PB where locals usually go out on the weekends and during the day on the weekdays Pros: I like the two floors, both providing their own unique atmosphere. The bottom floor has outdoor games like corn hole as well as tvs and a DJ. The bar is close by and will be busy when going out on a weekend night. The upstairs was a different atmosphere with more strobe lights and a new DJ. There is an outdoor patio area here too where there is a VIP section if you want to book that. I wouldn't recommend that though. Bathrooms are accessible on the first floor. Parking will be tough as the only available options are street parking or pay to park areas. There is no cover charge which is nice. Cons: lines to get in can become increasingly long as a weekend night progresses, I went on a Friday night. I ordered a beer at the bar and spent about $10 for a mango cart, so be prepared to spend money here on drinks. There is a capacity upstairs and security will close up the stairwell until people leave. So after waiting in a long line outside, there may be another long line once you get in. They try and make this away from the bar so people can drink but with an overwhelming amount of people, they will be awkwardly standing there blocking others from going to the bar. Verdict: I give this place four stars because on a weekend night, you can have loads of fun here. Bring the right crowd with you and your night will be good. However, save your money and don't buy crazy drinks here as it will be expensive. Lines and parking could be your biggest factors to not make this any better. Uber here if you can if parking is not your strong suit. read more

This place is a Buffalo Bills bar, so expect it to be rowdy on Sundays, especially when the game kicks off at 10 AM. If you want to get in for a big game, be prepared for a long drive down the field aka there's usually a line that stretches out the door and around the corner. You don't want to show up 15 minutes before kickoff or you'll be penalized with a spot on the bench aka waiting outside until the second quarter. The energy is high, though with Buffalo swag being raffled away and a beer chugging contest. As for the food? It's just meh. Not a game-changer, but it'll fill you up. As for drinks, there's your Labatt Blue along with some local San Diego beers to choose from However, the bathrooms need some serious attention. When it's packed, there just aren't enough to handle the crowd..it's like a fumble waiting to happen. The two floors and patios are cool, and there are high-top tables sprinkled around but if you're planning to sit and eat, good luck. When it's packed it's mostly standing room only. On non-game days, though, this place is a ghost town. The energy is gone and so are the drink specials. To sum it up..If you're a Bills fan and you're here for the games, it's a great place to catch the action. If you're coming in off-season or looking for a more relaxed vibe. The Local PB by far is one of the better bar food options in PB. Chicken nuggets? Immediately yes. The house sauces will always be a hit for me. I actually tried the ahi tuna today for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Is it the best you'll get in San Diego? Probably not, but hey, still by far one of the best bar food options in PB. This is a fantastic bar to go to for night life generally, the lines and prices are fairly reasonable. It was Super Bowl Sunday and super packed. My friends decided to go here (last minute). Obviously it took 30 min to find parking a half mile away lol. The place was standing room only when I got there but their set up was pretty nice with the huge screen in the large outdoor space. I didn't like that they did not carry cognac at all! But they did have $6 dollar specials. It was a cool vibe and funny with all the inebriated characters. We eventually landed a table around the fourth quarter. The bus boys were a little aggressive and almost pushed me over on to people sitting when I went to the restroom. Anyways, I ordered popcorn chicken and fries. My friend ordered a taco and nachos. My chicken was really good. Loved the crispy skin on it which had a slight sweetness to it. They came with about 15-20 pieces which I could have had two of them but didn't want to wait (I'm greedy, I know). I didn't care for the nachos as I did try them which had too much mushed beans on it for my liking. This spot seems to be a nice hangout spot. They were playing great music after the game which was hip hop/pop. They had a DJ upstairs which was a huge space. I've been here twice now. The line is always long but never too crazy for a wait. The upstairs is where the party is at. The bathrooms can be hit or miss with cleanliness but that can depend on the type of crowd that night. Drinks are standard crazy bar prices, nothing to write home about but easy to access with good service. They have a patio on the second floor that is nice, but it closes at 1. The dance floor closes at 1:30 which seems very early. Music is always hit or miss, again comes with the DJ. The Saturday night one was all over the place and just could not read the room! We had an absolute blast at Saturday Bingo Brunch! Our first time here will not be our last. The place was not super busy which was surprising because everything was awesome! Location, food, beverages, service, bingo... we were all very impressed. We had no problem finding street parking nearby. We'd reserved a table for 7 at noon upstairs for bingo (early Mother's Day lunch). They have a nice large "front yard" and restaurant with a bar downstairs. Upstairs is where the magic happens. Bright and airy indoor seating with an outdoor balcony available. Huge bar with dozens of beers on tap. Great cocktail menu. We ordered the champagne tower which came with various juices to choose your own mimosa adventure. The brunch board was incredible, included perfect pancakes, churro waffles (yum!), French toast, flaky biscuits and gravy, thick cut bacon, delicious sausage and eggs, berry compote. We literally ate every single thing on the board. We also got the chilaquiles (perfection), biscuits and legit sausage gravy with breakfast potatoes, eggs Benedict, Bloody Mary, and a couple other cocktails, I can't think of the name but the one in a conch shell was sooo good! All the food we tried was superb, fresh ingredients, well seasoned, large portions, reasonably priced. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and took great care of us the entire time. Bingo was next level fun and the host was pure entertainment. He engaged with everyone in the place and truly made our brunch experience amazing. The games and challenges were so much fun! I won't be coming back here, and after looking at the other one-star reviews, it's obvious I'm not the only one who's had issues with the bouncers. I casually mentioned that the security camera at the entrance seemed unnecessary, and instead of a normal conversation, it was immediately escalated. The bouncer manager--who clearly has a serious attitude problem--tried to turn it into something bigger by inviting me outside, like he was looking for a fight. Security is one thing, but what's next--pat-downs just to get in? This place seems more interested in power trips than actually creating a good atmosphere. Based on all the other complaints, it's clear this is a recurring issue with the staff, not just a one-off situation. Plenty of better places to go without dealing with this nonsense. As far as night life: The local has good music more like house and pop. One weekends there is usually a line to get upstairs but a good time to get a drink at the lower bar while you wait. When you get upstairs, they have an outdoor rooftop area if you need a breather. A personal note; the Local has the BEST mirror selfie lighting for the girls lol. Their happy hour is Monday-Friday 4-7 and on Wednesday they have karaoke & on thursday they have trivia 7-9.
