I'm from San Diego, Ca and I love good food. While in Austin, I heard about this spot so I decided to try. I bought the "San Diego" burrito aka THE CALIFORNIA BURRITO for $9.49. First, the burrito is a lot smaller than expected although its in an OVERSIZED tortilla which is what filled me up... NOT much carne asada was in my burrito, the guacamole didn't taste homemade, the fries are the string fries NOT regular sized fries that we use in SD. I also ordered a $2.75 churro. Unbelievably disappointed as there was NO SUGAR OR CINNAMON on my churro but it did have some type of filling??? It's pretty hard to mess up a breakfast burrito, and at around $6.50, Super Burrito has it's pricing right. Unfortunately, the breakfast burrito with bacon I had was pretty flavorless, and they didn't throw any hot sauce in the bag. I moved here from San Diego about 12 years ago and was dying due to lack of real carne asada. Living near the border spoils you when it comes to Mexican food so when I got to Austin I was majorly disappointed (the Tex mex is good don't worry people). This is the one spot in Austin that I've found legit carne asada and if you know about the "California burrito" then you must give it a try. It's a little pricey compared to SD I'll admit but it's as close to the same exact burrito as you can get. Point is, when I need a taste of the best Mexican food I run to super burrito. Here's another story. I was dating a girl from El Paso. We used to always argue about who had better Mexican food. Was it El Paso or was it San Diego? One day I took her to super burrito and this was her comment: "it's just like El Paso!" I laughed because it was just like San Diego! Apparently they are very similar for you real Texans. Give this place a try! My only complaint is that I DO wish they had a brick and mortar again instead of the food truck that is super hard to access with parking. I had the potato egg and cheese burrito (I'm vegetarian)... and there wasn't cheese. which might've been fine, except that I don't think the potatoes or eggs were seasoned whatsoever. This place has been bookmarked for quite some time and we finally came to try it and it did not disappoint. I tried the Texas burrito and my wife got the Super Burrito. We also split a Sea Monster taco. Everything was spot on. The prices are very good and the food came out incredibly fast. The orange salsa was delicious and reminded me of the salsas from the taco shops in California. The white sauce on the sea monster was amazing. The breaded shrimp had a great crunch to it as well. I can't wait to co.e back to try some of the other burritos as well as the breakfast items. They do not serve any drinks, but you can get drinks at the Tiniest Bar in Texas right next door. There are benches and tables to sit at, with music to enjoy while you devour your burrito. I think the super nachos or carne asada fries might be next on my list here. read more

My husband and I were super excited to finally find a place that served a California Burrito (here dubbed a San Diego Burrito) and Carne Asada Fries since leaving California, so of course we had to try it out. It was unpleasantly chewy and very very...peppery? My guacamole didn't taste (or look) fresh. The prices are pretty steep. I finally found a place in Austin that serves California burritos like San Diego (appropriately named the San Diego burrito here)! It successfully satisfied my craving for non-TexMex Mexican food. Now, I usually don't finish an entire burrito in one sitting, but it's been a while so naturally, I devoured it. And felt disgusting with myself after. But it was worth it. I felt the nachos were flavorless from beginning to end. I have done these types of nachos at various places and they have had flavor on their own. Just ordered the San Diego burrito off Uber EATS and boy it was delicious and way too filling.. The burrito came ripped apart because it was too stuffed so it was a pain to eat and the meat wasn't all that flavorful but I loved the healthy amount of cilantro, queso fresco, and sour cream -- also the french fries were a fun addition. Stopped by to get the Texas burrito for lunch and it changed my life! SO good! They were also extremely nice and quick! My burrito was ready by the time I finished paying. That's service! There is street parking, but I wasn't sure and parked in the parking lot near the Starbucks. Pretty sure I wasn't supposed to, but they were so quick it was fine! ;) It was around $9, but the burrito was huge and I couldn't finish it. Pretty unremarkable. I had to order twice since they gave my Favor runner the wrong food. I was pretty excited for what had been described as a "solid burrito" but instead was let down. The steak was overcooked and served so scalding, piping hot that it turned the pico de gallo into half-cooked tomato sauce. Being a California native and reading reviews that the owners are from CA I was very excited (beyond words) to check this place out and I ended up very disappointed after tasting the food. The carne asada was very bland, lacked flavor and salt. I figured this was an easy fix, so I asked for lime wedges (like they actually give you in CA when you order street tacos etc.) but I was told they didn't have any lime wedges. My husband went back to ask for salt to "fix" how bland the meat was - they told us they didn't have salt. Sigh. So you know, I ordered the super burrito with carne asada as my choice of meat, 2 carne asada street tacos with corn tortillas, 1 shredded chicken street taco on flour and an order of carne asada fries. The only taco with flavor was the shredded chicken taco my 4 yo. son had (but it was a little spicy so he struggled eating it). The burrito had beans that tasted as if they came from a can - goopy. Even our fries lacked any type of season such as seasoning salt or regular. I think you guys get the picture - it lacked salt and flavor. It's an easy fix but will they take the time to listen? Marinate your meat at minimum for 4-5 hrs, use lime when marinating, salt and garlic salt or powder. Offer lime wedges for those that want a tangy meat flavor and please purchase small individual salt and pepper packages or have one consumers may use at their leisure. I'm not sure if I'll be back, I'm still debating but as of now probably not. I'm from LA so maybe this place is good if you've never had CA / LA real street tacos. Check them out on your own and be your own judge - don't take my word for it but read the review of a person that actually knows and has a pallet for street tacos - the real kind.
