Update: Just wanted to say that it's been about two weeks, and i still find myself thinking about how amazingly disgusting this place was. This place was terrible. Everyone was walking around with giant plates of food while I wondered "Are they tasting the same stuff I'm tasting?" I went on a Sunday so lunch cost $16! I felt like i had been robbed. I took a bite on some noodles and they tasted like the stale, mildew odor of an outdoor garage. I think I probably only ate about $0.05 worth of food. It's has a large selection, for a Chinese buffet they have a little of everything hamburgers, sushi, chow mein ect. I've only been here twice both times the place was fairly empty, both times it was early on a Saturday the food is always hot and the pans/ trays are never empty long. I'm here on a holiday Monday at 5pm, and it was not very busy. By 6, the place was busy. There are a lot of food options. A lot. Highlights I tried were, frog legs ( tasted like a mild chicken), baked and fried chicken, Chinese broccoli (was leaves and looked like spinach but didn't taste like that), several forms of shrimp, some typical sushi (I've had better sushi), and tapioca pudding and hot apple pie (in a turnover type presentation). My date eat a bit healthier than I did and said the stir fried items were great. Everything was fresh and hot. So many things I simply did not sample. Service was great, and for $11.95 it was a VERY filling, and interesting meal. My only complaint would be that of the 5 small portions of dessert I tried, only the tapioca pudding and hot apple pie would I would try again. We will be back. read more

We've taken our families there 4-5 times before, for big parties, and we go there just because . . . Negatives: Two kinds of clams, but they're both hot or spicy. Not for people who likes neither. People who love hot & spicy foods? They have condiments on each table. So, skip that, but I don't think that's fair that we can't have clams! Plantain bananas, I could see some that are bruised, some people don't eat bruised bananas. Many types of sweets, and there's this white rice with raisins, that tasted like one of those Filipino Christmas dish! Positives: Selections of Chinese, Japanese, Sushi, American, Mexican, Italian (yes they have spaghetti & pizzas too!) foods. With your lunch or dinner, you can order tea, coffee, even milk for adults. Doesn't other buffets have those? My Darling Husband and myself went to Super King Buffet after we were married for a few years, actually. I liked that everything was easy to identify. I didn't taste the Frog Legs. My Husband said that he liked the Frog Legs. Also, we have not been back for many years to Super King Buffet because we don't eat as much as we did when we were younger. We visited this establishment after a long day of walking around town and local hills and such. We frequent a buffet in DuPont, WA that is our comparison. The sushi here was plentiful, but the variety was limited. Quality was butter than some buffets, but still not the best we've had. But worth it. Fried rice and noodles, while not the best thing to judge a buffet on, were by far not great. The rice was dry and flavorless. The various standard American Chinese dishes were on par for a buffet. Nothing really to be overjoyed about. Flavors are there and textures, but still 3 Star. The pot stickers were by far the best I've ever had at a restaurant. The wraps tasted fresh and not frozen. Obviously I wouldn't expect them to actually be non-frozen, but still great. The service was amazing. Our dirty plates were done before we came back from getting more, waters refilled when at 1/4 cup. They had a birthday celebration and all sang for the little boy. It was nice. Lastly the price. On a Monday night we were expecting a hefty tab for two adults and a 4 year old. Not at all. Price fell well below expectations and we left a healthy tip. Overall a 3 Star buffet. We most likely will not be returning mainly for the fact that we live out of state and when we visit the area we like to try other places. read more

Located on the outskirts of Portland just south of SE 82nd Holgate, Super King Buffet boasts one of the few full fledge buffets in the city of Portland. Jam packed with a wide variety of options to satisfy your every hunger. It's not any kind of high end buffet, but for the value I believe you get your money's worth. The staff is all business, but will accommodate you with whatever you'd like, from seating requests to additional food options. Don't forget about the sushi tucked away by frozen yogurt machine. Make sure to save some room if you're in the mood for some sushi. Again, but the best quality sushi, but still nice to have they option amid all the other great offerings. Super King Buffet occupies a "landmark" building on SE 82nd Avenue because it is where Organ Grinder Pizza used to be. I had been to Organ Grinder many times back in the 80s and now I like Super King Buffet just as much. For $13.25 at dinner time (after 3:30pm), you can eat all you want. Most of the items are Asian, and because the place is busy, fresh food is frequently being shuttled out of the kitchen. The selection is huge and varied. . .and mostly pretty good. I know that some people don't like it because maybe their favorite dish isn't prepared exactly the way THEY like it, but I think they should remember it's a BUFFET so there's plenty of other dishes to try. This is my favorite buffet in Oregon. Has a very good selection of sushi for dinner and great hot entrees. The food is always good and the people who work there are very nice. You can come dressy or casual. There are many people who come dressed up so you won't stand out of place. When I come to Portland, there is only one place I eat and that is Super King Buffet. I will say this. The people were generally friendly. They do have frog legs. The bathroom is in good repair and kept free of vandalism. That is where the good ends. The shrimp is not cleaned in any way shape or form. The chicken is undercooked and pink which is dangerous. The imitation crab was overcooked and soggy. This was mine and my wife's 11th anniversary dinner. We left after less than 10 minutes. When we complained they knocked off a whole 3 dollars off of a bill that was 32 dollars. Really? I'm calling my bank and going to reverse the payment. I would have been happy to pay for the soda's, but no. I can't call this highway robbery. This is more like rape. However, on this occasion the female server assumed we were going to skip out on our bill, so she commenced to grabbing the check from my hand to acknowledge the fact that I still needed to pay. However, I was waiting on my daughter to come from the restroom and letting my 3 yrs old son look at the fish while we waited for her. Was so offensive and disrespectful considering we dine here regularly and the server has worked with us on multiple occasions. Once I addressed the issue she acted as though she didn't know what I was talking about and began to speak in Chinese. I like this place, but I didn't like these incident at all. Located off of Powell and 82nd, I had my first visit to Super King Buffet with my friends on Christmas Day. They decided to come in around 4PM before the rush, so I readily agreed and went to meet them there. You can't miss this this place with their high rise window feature and people milling about in the parking lot. I was glad I took public transportation there because their parking is pretty small. I met up with my friends inside and went to a table. I'm not sure if this is what you're supposed to do, or wait for someone to take you to a table, but hey, I'm not going to ask for questions. The staff is super friendly and are on top of their game.The place was clean and they make sure pick up your plates right away. I noticed many of them taking notice of the buffet and when to fill up right away. The food is your standard Asian fare, but the real winner was the frog legs! I never had them before and my friends were raving about how good they were, so I tried them. The seasoning is amazing and yeah, it does taste just like chicken! lol Afterwards, you can either pay at the front, or the waitress will come by and ask if you want to pay individually or as a group. They were easygoing and chill, which I appreciate and added a good tip for them. Overall, I had a fun time there and would go again. +1 on the soft serve ice cream. So I heard great things about this place from coworkers. The parking lot looked jumpin'-jumpin' and the smells coming from within were enticing. It seemed like a recipe for success. Inside, there was a line (which I took as a good sign). A nice koi pond helped pass the time. We were seated and drink orders were taken. I think Sunday buffet was something like $13 and maybe about $2 for a drink. So $15 a person. Things worth eating: sesame chicken, hot donuts, vegetable roll. Boyfriend enjoyed the beef short ribs and sweet and sour chicken. Things I didn't like (any why): roasted chicken (rubbery), hard boiled egg (weird flavor), macaroon (soggy), sweet sticky rice (gelatinous). I know it's buffet food but in the words of Rube from Dead Like Me, "I rarely say this in such a hallowed establishment; but that was %^*&ing inedible". I tried FROG LEGS here! And they were pretty okay. It was a lot like a chicken wing. Overall, it woulda probably been okay on a weeknight. But for those Sunday prices, I expected more. So picture this: It's a Friday night. My super glam roommate and I are driving down 82nd looking for somewhere cheap and good to eat. We suddenly spot a buffet with a packed parking lot. So it must be good, right? Hmmmmm... This place brought out a cavalcade of emotions. First, hilarity at the very fake "ponds" that had koi fish and also had pennies in the bottom even though there's a sign clearly stating to not throw coins in the water as it's bad for the fish. Also, sadness, at seeing a lot of very obese, unhealthy people eating here. I'm not model thin, but still... Although I suppose it's to be expected at a buffet. Next I felt overwhelmed by the huge amount of choices and a tiny bit stressed as I knew I didn't need to eat, say , six plates of food. But we tried as much as we could without feeling like we went way over the line as far as how much we'd eaten. Most of the food, especially all the Chinese items, was mediocre at best. There was one sauteed chicken with mushrooms dish that was good. And the butter potatoes were great, I mean, how could you mess that one up? But even the fried appetizers like crab rangoon weren't too good. The spring rolls were tasty and the sweet and sour chicken was pretty decent. Unfortunately, most of the healthier meat and veggie stir fried items were just terrible, generally due to slimy, awful tasting meat. We also tried one bite each of the coconut and mango cakes, which were terrible. The only good tasting dessert item was the jelly roll with cream filling. The soft serve was also fine, that's tough to mess up as well. So what was tasty? The Japanese food! The sushi rolls were all good. Not the best ever, but plenty flavorful enough. We noticed too late that they had a stir fry bar where you give them items and they stir fry them. We decided if we go again, we'll just do the sushi and have a stir fry, healthier and better tasting. read more

Always go for lunch, it is half the price of dinner and has similar foods. I would eat their dinner but they removed the crab. Wth guys?! But that's smart so I applaud you with that business decision. Fortune cookies are stale. I keep getting the one where is says "a nice surprise is in store for you next week." I hesitated for months before trying this generic looking establishment. I have had bad experiences from Chinese buffets in the past, so I was very skeptical. The decor inside is lovely and its very clean. Most importantly, the food is spectacular! The stream of diners is steady, so the buffet is always being refreshed. I have gone back three times now and the quality has been consistent. The buffet is HUGE. It offers standard Chinese favorites, like orange chicken, fried rice, chow mien, egg rolls, egg drop soup. But also fried plantains, frog legs, fried tofu, pork chops. My absolute favorite, though, is the full sushi bar in the back! Wow. Fresh, made in front of you, and plenty of yummy choices. Super King is great for kids, too -- they have lighter options like white rice, and standard desert stuff like banana pudding and ice cream. They have high chairs, and booster seats. The prices vary: Before 3pm it's about $9/person, and kids are $.70/year old. After 3pm and all day Sunday it's $13/person, and kids are $.90/year old. Under 2 years old are free! The buffet's not about authenticity or fine dining, it's about Krab Puffs and eggrolls and big pans of General Tso's chicken, and maybe orange slices and frozen yogurt at the end. I've paid twice as much for worse Chinese food at the restaurant up the street; hell, I've paid more at the Safeway deli counter. This place is huge and was filled to the rafters on a weekday lunch hour, and nobody was complaining about the food. Service was businesslike but attentive, the variety was respectable, and we all found a few favorites. This place easily competes with any Chinese buffet I've been to. When my dad invited me to eat here, I was hesitant since I'm not a big fan of buffets. However, this buffet rocks! Everything is clean and there are people who come around and basically clean up after you. Sounds annoying, but they do it discreetly, and it sure makes a difference. The food was good quality - in addition to the staple Chinese items, they had American things as well. Everything tasted fresh, nothing seemed like it had been sitting out for a long time at all. Also been here a number of times to attend various occasions. They have wider selection among other buffet places we've been to. I usually get the seafood and Chinese food when I go here. Some are typical buffet offerings...you know...greasy, so-so quality...but a lot of them are pretty good. Food is hot and fresh as they are quickly replenished. After several more trips to Super King I have only upgraded my opinion of this establishment. As buffets go, this one keeps it coming, hot, fresh and delicious. The "abusers" do heavily target Super King (folks who load-up enormously on shrimp, crab, clam, etc.) and pile their dishes HIGH with the most expensive culinary delights. How do you know a native Portlander? They'll tell you. After that, you'll know a Native Portlanders because they talk about the Organ Grinder. The Organ Grinder, for those not in the know, was one of the best pizza places in Portland. The pizza was mediocre by today's standards, but was awesome back when pizza came in two types - flat corn meal crust, or frozen. What made the Organ Grinder special was the dark wood interior and the huge pipe organ that took up half the building giving it it's unique shape. It seemed like it was always playing music. Few things are cooler then hearing a huge pipe organ play the Star Wars theme music as the bubble machines blow soapy mixture all over your food at your best friends birthday party. Unfortunately, the Organ Grinder is now a dim memory of youth lost. Super King Buffet, who has taken over the original Organ Grinder building at 5015 SE 82nd, will never have the nostalgia factor that the Organ Grinder did. The food is still mediocre by todays standards. The price reasonably cheap for a Chinese Buffet, and just as reasonably varied. Unlike the Organ Grinder, suburban kids aren't going to be begging to come here. Unlike the Organ Grinder, the only music accompanying your meal is the scream of young kids, frustrated parents telling them to eat (in multiple languages,) and blue collar workers stopping here during lunch break for a cheap and filling meal. And really, that is all it has going for it. Some of us will continue to dream of slightly soap flavored pizza and the Star Wars Theme song though and will visit again just to seep in nostalgia. read more

The quality really depends on what day you go. The last couple times I went I really thought hard about asking for my money back because the food was disgusting. My most recent trip on a Saturday afternoon however was fine. Avoid the week days. I like this place. I like this place probably more than I should, because its a buffet.... that does sushi... and because I am fat. What is with the music? Light hits of the 80's and 90's? The place is a bit dated but generally in good repair. All the staff is friendly and courteous to me every time I come in. It is a way better deal to go during lunch because it is cheaper and all the food is freshest then. I can put away probably 100 or so pieces of sushi when I come here... that is pretty much why I come here. That being said, the sushi is average. They have a lot of the Asian buffet staples like General Tsao's chicken, braised pork ribs, beef and broccori etc. They also have some nice dessert options like fried doughnuts and an ice cream dispenser which I always forget about until after my third plate of sushi. read more

Let me start off by saying I was an unwilling participant regarding my visit to this establishment. We had a large family gathering in Portland that required a dinner with a quick turnover as we had an early event to attend so there I was. I'd give 0 stars however: 1. Yelp requires 1 star to make a review. 2. Fried frog legs are pretty cool and they were tasty. That being said, I don't expect much from buffet food. It's not my bag and its primary purpose is obviously not to deliver the highest caliber cuisine or anything breathtaking. I however do expect to see proper food handling with raw foods (in abundance here, including meat and seafood) being presented in a fashion that avoids cross-contamination and cooked foods being kept at proper temperatures. I witnessed multiple violations of these basic tenets of food service. The worst part was that one of my table-mates had a rock in her salad. In the laid back atmosphere and pace of buffet service there is really no excuse to miss a rock in the salad when it is put out for service. Don't check 'em out! read more

The quality of the food isn't all that special - it's like any another Chinese Buffet you've ever been to - but the quantity is stupendous. So far my record is three plates and frozen yogurt. Parking can be an issue here if you arrive during peak times, the lots themselves are not big and there are not many options to park elsewhere and walk to this venue. The food itself was okay. I came around 5:30 and was there about an hour and a half. I noticed many items were refilled over and over, but good luck on getting any oysters once the first batch runs out (I noticed there were the same shells sitting there). The ice crème options are limited, vanilla, chocolate, or twist. The pork chops had barely any meet on them after I peeled off all the fat. All other foods were standard that did not stand out, even for a buffet. Be careful when walking around the serving stations, there were many times when I almost fell because the floors were too slippery (and I was wearing my hiking boots). read more

Had a run in with a very rude patron who elbowed me out of the way and didn't bother to apologize or say excuse me. It does attract a bit of a ghetto crowd. The coconut shrip was the best item there. The sushi was fresh, not much of a selection. The baked muscles and oysters good as well. The service was ok. When ever I'm feeling down I go to Super King Buffet and my mood lifts. The staff is so friendly and kind. I have a distinct and regimented way of going through the buffet which I secretly used to call "visiting old friends." First I pay a visit to the general, Gen. tsao chick, then my old pal Pork Fried Rice and "the twins" aka two piping hot spring rolls. We get back to the table and the eating begins. Then for round 2 I then get some lo mein and some beef with veggies. Then comes my favorite part, round 3... soft serve ice cream and lemon cake!!! God I love that place!! read more
