I'm not impressed. It was my first time visiting Superdawg a few weeks back and I got 3 hotdogs for me and my fiance. The hotdog itself was bigger than a usual hotdog but I did not find it spectacular. It was jammed so tight into a box with maybe 10 fries that were totally burnt and gross. Just taking the dog out was a mess since the fries would be falling all over the place since they were so jammed in the box. Neither of us were very impressed. Oh yeah, it almost cost $20 for 3 hot dogs and fries!!! Not worth the price. And you can't get it without the fries, Actually, I tried and was told "you can but you'll still pay the same amount". Great concept but poorly executed food. Their hot dog and fries taste great but I don't know why they always have to close the box and make everything soggy. This place would easily be a 5 star hot dog joint if they served the hot dog and fries separately so that the fries stay nice and crunchy. I've asked them twice to do this but every time the cooks just do what they are use to which is put the hot dog and fries together and then close the box. Within 1 minute your fries are already soggy and your hot dog bun is totally mushy and falls apart when eating. Simple fix but seemingly very difficult to implement. read more

As much as I do enjoy the food, the price for the portion size is a little expensive and the customer service is one of the worst I've seen! It takes over 15 minutes for one order of of chicken and a few fries and the people are the rudest. They never apologize for the time, they're always abrupt with you and rude. I love Vienna Chicago Style dogs, only 1 place ever gets me away from them, it's Superdawg! I've been going to the location on Devon forever on my way to Cubs & Blackhawks games from the far north burbs, but since we got the Wheeling location, when I get the SD craving it's much more convenient for me to stop by here. It is seriously old school Chicago and a staple For more than 50 years. They even still rock the drive through! It is a CLASSIC! I have only been a couple of times but tried a majority of the menu and both the hot dog and burger are ridiculously good. The building was super cute. It has plenty of spaces to order your food to your car, that's for sure. Inside was pretty small, still it was clean. The food was ok. Nothing to write home about. I asked for pickles "on my burger" and they give you pickle spears on the side, not a fan, considering I LOVE pickles on my sandwich. read more

Went there on a Saturday night at 5:30- the place was jam packed! Staff was very nice and helpful. The food was overpriced and not that good. The hot dogs are much better at just about every other place I have been to and the fries were soggy. The portions were also very small. Stopped here as a last minute lunch idea. Was very pleased with our order. I got a Superdawg with mustard and onion (my standard). The hubs got a Superdawg with everything. The fries here are amazing. I don't usually like crinkle cut fries, but the freshness and seasoning of these we're amazing. I only wish they had given me more. I went today for lunch. Friday morning, 11am. It took 20 minutes for me to get a TO GO order. The girl told me they only took cash, so I asked her for a total, I only had $8 cash. She said she would come back and tell me...she NEVER did. FINALLY when I got food the girl who came out was rude to me AND got my order wrong! She was also holding it up right, instead of on it's side, so when I opened it everything had slid down to one side. I took it home (I live less than 5 minutes from the location in wheeling) and everything looked old and pre-fabbed! The bun was soaked and mushy. The fries were old and stale. They tasted like they were frozen and then NOT cooked all the way. That was actually the first time I've ever been to SuperDawg....and it will be the LAST!!! IT sucked. I am not a native Chicagoan, but my wife is. When I first visited, my mom-in-law insisted with drive all the way from the South burbs to the original Superdawg. It was the best damn hot dog I had ever had. Between Superdawg and Portillo's, I am fully converted to the Chicago style hot dog (though I still love Texas Pfluger Dogs from Dog Almighty in Austin, TX). So, of course, I was excited to hear that there was a new location in Wheeling. This past Tuesday I convinced my wife that we should drive down come hell or high water (and the Des Plaines does have a habit of flooding over). We each got two hot dogs - plain for her, everything for me. The fries were lackluster to say the least, but I didn't care. The hot dogs are what you come for. I bit into my first one and, of course, it was a great, artery clogging taste. But, that's all I really tasted (except the hot peppers). The pickle was weak and the relish and mustard were somehow lost in the background. Disappointing to say the least. Maybe I got them on a bad day - and for that alone, I'll give it 3 stars. Maybe I just don't like it anymore, but I still love Portillo's, so what gives? Whenever I get a chance, I'll try to convince the wife to go to the Chicago location and see if things went down hill there. If so, a piece of Chicago might have died with it for me. read more

Had a groupon for superdawg and always saw it on tv So we has to try it. After a drive we arrived and saw the iconic superdawg. We decided to eat insode even though they do have the car hops. The cashier was super friendly and helpful. They werent super busy but it seem forever for the food to come. We ordered to superdawgs with fries and onionchips. After the food finally came out. We sat down to eat this awasome food. Apon opening the box the fries were over cooked and the hot dog was so smashed into the box i had to eat though the fries to even get the hotdog out of the box. The hotdog was super soggy it fell though the bun. It was one of the most frustracting resturants i have been too. Overall the tast was bland and wasnt to spectacular. I really should give SuperDawg two stars, because I really didn't love the food and won't be going back, but I love the fact it is a drive-in -- so much so, that I give it three stars. This place was a major disappointment. It had been years since I'd last eaten at the original Superdawg and was excited to see they had opened up a new location on the Northshore. Either I remember the original Superdawg being better than it actually was, or this new location just doesn't measure up to the original. I'm going to opt for the latter. I had a Superdawg which comes standard with fries, and it costs $5.50 or $6.00 or so. A little pricey, but pretty standard for the area I guess. The hot dog was ok but just lacked the character I remember the original having. There are other places in the area I would go back to first for hot dogs, like Portillos. The fries were soggy and unremarkable. To sum up, if you're going to the Wheeling Superdawg hoping it will stir some memories of the original Superdawg, don't bother. The only good item on the menu is the hot dog, and I think Portillo's does it better. Fries are just okay, Steak, Polish, and Shrimp items are BAD. Yesterday I went for dinner, and I was very surprised by the condition of the building. flaking and peeling paint on all metal structures, melted and cracked inserts in the carhop intercom boxes, at least three quarters of the stalls were marked out of order and two or three where complete covered in plastic and painters tape. No drive through, despite having the window. Credit cards accepted if you walk inside only, because to bring your card back out would be to much work for them. I believe that could have been solved with a better choice in POS system without any real increase in cost. Friendly enough staff, but the whole interior smelled like cigarette smoke. And I thought the glowing red eyes on the mascot outside were bad enough. read more

I had never been to Superdawg before so I figured it was worth a try. The cheeseburger I ordered had a patty smaller than the bun and was weak and overcooked. The pathetically small box of fries were the standard crinkle-cut fries you get at almost any fast food place. They too were overcooked and crunchy. I was under the impression this was the place to go for hot dogs until I saw the gigantic meat tube they call a hot dog. Super Gross sounds more like it. No thank you! Tried this new location for the first time today. Definitely doesn't have the people watching that the original has but the food and service are just as good and you don't have to breathe in all those CTA exhaust fumes. Kids love this place. Super Cheesy Burger is great but you just can't beat the hotdog burried in fries. Great to couple this with a trip to Par King mini golf just up the road. Good old fashioned family fun. read more
