One of my favorite eateries in Torrance! The service is consistently warm and lovely, and the food is super satisfying. The appetizers are all top notch, especially the fried squid legs and cold tofu. I always order the sushi a la carte, and all of the toro and premium sushi (uni, ikura) always hit the spot. :) It's conveniently located in a plaza with plenty of parking and space to stay distanced from other customers while you wait for your order. Sushi Anza is a simple restaurant, and they consistently serve fresh and delicious traditional Japanese sushi. They do have some of the crazy rolls on the menu, but we stick to the traditional items and the chef always ensures high quality. The baked yellowtail collar is also very good. read more

I always feel bad leaving bad reviews, but I just got to be honest. Came here to have dinner tonight with my husband, he was craving sushi so we figured we'd try Anza since it's close by the house. The moment we walked in, it was a ghost town. Maybe because it's Tuesday night I thought? The server was very nice and attentive, 5 stars for her! However, it started out bad right away food wise. I ordered some hot tea and it wasn't great. Kind of tasted like dirt. We each got a miso soup that wasn't hot, it was just warm. Not good for miso in my opinion. I ordered a combination plate with spicy tuna roll and teriyaki chicken. The chicken was bland and had only a little sauce on it. The rice on the spicy tuna roll was hard and the fish was not fresh. My husband also said his rainbow roll wasn't good and didn't taste fresh. But here's the kicker!! While we were waiting for our food, I saw a women (not our server) come out of the kitchen with a giant bag of cat food and take it to the back. Then she went back in the kitchen and grabbed another giant bag of cat food to take to the back? Not sure why there were two bags of cat food in the kitchen.... but kind of made me worry. So after all that.. $50 pretty much down the drain. Really disappointed. read more

Tried this place, as it was close by and convenient. It's small and clean. The waitress was friendly. All of the food was good: we ordered a variety or sushi and rolls. BUT let me tell you there is one thing I will be re-ordering on our next visit, and not sharing.... SUSHI TACOS. They were so good, better than I expected, and they hit the spot with perfection. Had Sushi here with my brother, he had some good experiences. We got some handrolls and nigiri. The yellowtail handroll had a decent piece of fish..m but it was nasty full of those nervy strings inside. Same happend with the toro nigiri piece...GROSS... had to spit them both out as they were so chewy and the strings were going to make me gag... nasty. Learn to cut sushi! Not going back. There are very few sushi restaurants that have late night hours... we decided to try Sushi Anza for a moms night out specifically because they are open late every night. We ordered miso soup (in addition to the ones that came with the dinner set) salmon skin salad (which was huge and nicely dressed), gyoza (freshly fried & crispy), a sushi combination platter, a few rolls and nigiri sushi. Everything was prepared/made to order and very fresh. The server was very attentive but not pushy. She came around a few times to make sure that we were ok for food & drinks, but never rushed us. We ended up having to ask for our check 3 hours later! It was very impressive that they did not bring the check until we asked for it, and also that she'd asked if we wanted split checks at the beginning of the meal. It was a very nice evening out. The atmosphere is a lot like Katana-ya ramen in SF, but the walls are definitely more colorful here. + Service: excellent! I've never had to wait and they are attentive and on top of water filling + Handrolls ($3.80 normally, $1.90 happy hour): Well, I'm no sushi expert but this is pretty decent. + Sashimi and ingredients are fresh + Wasabi: nice and spicy! + Parking and location: I went to Vons afterwards and tried to wander off the food baby. The parking lot is huge and you'll never have a problem with parking. - The Sunday happy hour is a different menu and does not have sushi, but has other little dishes like shumai and edamame and beer. Bummer, I came on a Sunday - Maybe I would say the presentation of the food could be more appealing, but it's really a non-issue if you are hungry. - I also like a LOT OF SAUCE on my super Americanized sushi, but this is your typical Japanese style, healthy sushi made for dipping in wasabi and soy sauce. Solid neighborhood spot in Torrance for some legit Japanese. One reason that I like Sushi Anza a lot is that it is actually a Japanese-owned establishment! The usual here for me is the chirashi bowl. It's decently sized in terms of portion and priced right with a good variety of items. There's the usual like sweet shrimp and yellowtail, but there's also uni! Tough to find a place with uni for the price at Sushi Anza. Generally the quality is quite good. The fish is previously-frozen (like most places), but not to the point that the flavor's lost. There's also izakaya-type dishes, although a bit more expensive compared to other places. A fried soft shell crab will run close to $9, even though it's one of my favorite here! There's also sushi rolls, as well as a happy hour. During happy hour, which runs from 5:30pm to 7pm, some appetizer items like gyoza and edamame are under $3, while hand rolls are a little over $2. Of course, beer is included in the happy hour as well! Oh and another reason why I like Sushi Anza? Because it is Japanese-owned, they don't charge for hot tea :] read more

I had heard good things about sushi anza so I was a bit surprised to see some less than stellar reviews. I tried it anyway last night and was very happy I did. The service was very friendly and quick. My waitress came by frequently and was accommodating with my no shellfish request. I came by Thursday night around 7:30, and it was quiet and not very busy. The food seemed fresh to me, and the spicy tuna roll had great flavor. I've often found spicy tuna rolls to be too creamy and rich, but this one was pleasantly refreshing and the shoots add a crispness that compliments it well. I ordered tuna, yellowtail, and salmon sashimi, and I enjoyed them all. The yellowtail was my favorite and had the best texture. All came with plenty of wasabi which is always a plus for me. Small little sushi restaurant in Torrance. Service was good and they were friendly but the fish was not fresh. We ordered 2 orders of Uni sushi and couldn't even eat it because the color of it was grey and it tasted awful. I LOVE Uni and have tried it at almost every sushi place I have been to and I have to say this was by far the worse. The rolls were really big which isn't a bad thing but unfortunately they were so big from all the rice in them. You should definitely come here for their happy hour which is everyday from 5:30-7pm. Large beers are $4.50 instead of $7.00 and their handrolls are $2.30. According to prior reviews their handrolls were $1.90. I believe their handroll prices have gone up because their happy hour is now 7 days a week instead of Tuesdays to Saturdays. I uploaded a current picture of their happy hour menu. Sashimi portion and taste was good however they placed too much wasabi in their sushi. I wanted to try their Sashimi Roll but it was a little pricey ($16.00). I'll try their Sushi Tacos (3 for $9.90) another time. Service was good and happy hour prices are very affordable. Yikes. I'm queazy aaaand probably off sushi for life :( I saw other reviews mention odor. I willfully ignored them as I was beyond starving tonight after school. I ordered take out, 3 hand rolls. When I got back in my car, I thought. Hmmm the street smells a little funny here. When I returned home to let the sitter go, I questioned what she ate because my house smelled odd. Then we discovered it was my to-go order that smelled a little unusual. Again I was so hungry, I convinced myself it was the packaging or something. I took one bite of the yellow tail hand roll and almost instantly vomited. The piece of fish was bloody and rubbery (reminded me of raw chicken). And the smell located. I really hope and pray I don't get sick from it. Disclaimer: I HATE doing this. It's a small local business, really quaint and I actually thought to myself it could be my new local spot. Dudes and dudettes, this place is open until 1am on most nights. In the South Bay, you cant beat that. Only Dennys is open that late and is close by. The sushi is good so no complaints there. The miso soup ws excellent and one of the best ive ever had. The crunchy roll was crunchilicious and definitely a must order item if you like non-raw sushi. My husband and I love Anza Sushi. We eat this at least every other week.. We're probably over-impressed because we thought we'd never try this place driving by. It's in a strip mall in the corner and the name is named after the street it's on... how boring. But I read some good reviews here and I really wanted to eat sushi and I happened to be at the CVS next door so I gave it a try. Honestly, the service is HORRIBLE.. but the food is really good. I took out a star for the bad service. Sad thing is, they don't mean to give you bad service, they're just really slow... Everyone is in slow motion there. The sushi man is an older gentlemen who moves very slow and half of the time looks like he doesn't know there is an order waiting for him... And the waitress lady didn't speak much English so that was a challenge when I asked her what rolls I should try... We've only done take outs since the sushi bar looks too small for our family of 4 with a car seat and all that... So I can't say what the dine-in experience would be like. All I know is, when I went there without ordering ahead, even though they had like 5 customers in the whole restauarant, I stood there waiting for the order for like 35 minutes from when I ordered. Thank God the food tasted awesome when I got home!!! We never like the rainbow roll but it's really fresh and tasty here. Their crunch roll is awesome too. Their spicy scallop roll is really spicy which we love. They have this Anza burrito which has spicy tuna, crab meat, cucumber, hot sauce, and rice, wrapped with rice paper and you dip it in tartar sauce and hot sauce... The sushi they make isn't as aesthetically pleasing as other sushi places. It looks a bit messy and tastes as good as it looks. I tried out their sushi taco... I asked what was in it, but they neglected to tell me that onions were in it which was pretty lame. I have to say that eating the sushi tacos was a challenge. I had heard all the good things about this place for a long time, but never tried until recently. That is because I had been under the impression that this place is a Sushi restaurant (and I am extremely difficult to please when it comes to Sushi.) One day, when my Japanese friends and I were planning a girls' night, one of us suggested that we go Sushi Anza on Friday. I have to admit that I reluctantly agreed at that time. Sushi Anza totally surprised me in a good way. It feels just like an authentic "Izakaya" (tapas bar) in Tokyo instead of a Sushi restaurant. Casual, inexpensive, extensive food/drink menu, friendly chef, prompt service, etc. Fried fish bone (Hone Sen) is highly recommended. I heard that one of the owner's hobbies is fishing. He knows fish. Tons of parking space as it is located in the plaza of a major grocery store and drugstore. Will go again. read more

Miso soup was fresh, and the waitress was attentive. **NOTE: I've read a few 2-3 star reviews below. FYI sushi/nigiri is always served at room temperature. If you eat anywhere with cold sushi that means it's old and I'd highly advise NOT eating it or sending it back to have fresher sushi. The rice should not be cold either. QUICK TIP: Lunch specials are actually great for what you get. Great deals during Happy Hour too, which carry over to the weekend. I've tried few things but my favorite thing in Sushi Anza is spicy tuna hand roll. It's really big and they give you so much tuna inside!! For $3.90 each, I think it's definitely worth it! Tiny little place. Reminds me of a place that would be in NYC or a city that is cramped together. It was cute. A bit dingy. The server was really sweet. Crunchy roll was bomb and portion size was large. I wasn't impressed with the lunch specials and wasn't given another menu. I had to ask for a list of rolls. Not cheap but I guess reasonable. This is still the best sushi restaurant in the South Bay when you want real sushi combinations of nigiri, not the typical baked sushi rolls drenched in awful sauces that you can get anywhere. The quality of the sushi rice and fish is unmatched. The price of the combinations at $15-$18 (depending on the combo) is amazing given the quality and quantity of what you get for it. As someone who has tried many sushi restaurants in the area, I'm really not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews compared to other very mediocre sushi spots. read more

Sushi Anza is one of my favorite places to eat. I grew up eating here and the staff has always been so sweet to me and my family. My favorite nigiri are the Spanish mackerel, salmon, and negi toro. The hand rolls and CA rolls are good too! We used to go for happy hour a lot, but now we order take out and it's just as good! The worst nigiri I have ever tasted- 10 piece combination plate, Combo B if I remember correctly. The fish tasted old and worn out, the way in which the fish was cut was jagged, and overall the service was sub par. I distinctly remember multiple pieces of fish had an odd odor and was extremely chewy, moreso than any other sushi place I've been to (and I grew up in this area). We happen to look for a place to drink and found this little place still open so decided to go in. We live one block away so it is very convenient. We ordered hot sake with some appetizers and sushi. We really liked the friend oysters, it is served in a bed of salad and the dressing for the salad is delicious! We also tried the fried squid leg and soft shell crab. Those are pretty ok. On the sushi, I like it in general. I remember the sushi being pretty fresh, but I have had quite a few drinks. The server seems a bit unattended to us. We had to get up several times to ask for stuff at the counter. But maybe because it was already quite late. Overall experience is good. Nice place to chill and have a drink yet not too crowded. I've been wanting to try this place out after stumbling across it a few weeks ago and finally did the other day. I went for a late lunch so the place was pretty empty. The dining area is small and narrow so it's probably good that there weren't too many patrons during my visit. The space was decorated minimally with lots of Japanese characters written on paper placed on the wallsand a large flat screen t.v. at the far end of the restaurant which had Japanese news on but was translated into English which I had not seen before. After looking at the menu which seemed to contain a variety of traditional Japanese fare, I settled on the small Chirashi bowl which consisted of a variety of fish placed on a bowl of rice for about $10 and some change which is comparable to other sushi places. They serve a larger Chirashi bowl with the only difference being that they would add sea urchin. I asked my server if they could not add octopus and she said she would tell the chef and have him replace it with something else. I was served the traditional miso soup and had ordered some hot green tea. The soup was nothing extraordinary but the green tea was really soothing. My main plate looked great when it came out! There were pieces of yellow tail, tuna, shrimp, roe and sweet egg placed on top of my heaping bowl of rice. I always think the combination of colors really make a kind of nice floral effect with this particular dish. After a while of eating though, it seemed that there wasn't that much of a variety of fish as I've had at other places. I also started wondering what replaced the octopus because there wasn't double pieces of anything so they probably didn't replace the octopus. I do admit, I was stuffed at the end of my meal but I surmised it was most likely due to the large amount of rice that is served. All in all though, I enjoyed my experience. The environment was cozy and my server was attentive enough. Albeit, I was one of the only tables being served so we'd have to see what it would be like when the place is packed. I would come back again to try some of the other dishes because the price is reasonable and they do have a variety of dishes available. So for now, I'll give the place 4 Stars. It looked like this place had pretty good reviews so I wanted to try it today. I pulled up into the most torn-down, ghetto looking plaza ever.. Which is weird considering the Von's side of the plaza looks very kept-up and "safer" if you will.. Anyways.. This sushi place isn't exactly in a bad area but I felt like it was because of all the weirdos in the parking lot (sorry, just being honest).. and this was at 4:30pm. I finally get to the door and see a "B" sign on it. Yeah... sorry... not the risk I wanna take with raw fish. Just a heads up that this restaurant got a B on the food safety inspections. I doubt they tell you that in the ads. Needless to say I passed. Who knows, maybe it would've been ok but I wasn't gonna risk it. read more
