This unassuming place just blew my mind! After I finished up some lash service Nextdoor I decided to go to this place since I'm hungry and didn't wanna drive far. My only regret is I didn't know about this place before today! Food wow, fresh, taste on point and the serving is huge. For the amount of food you get, this place should be charging more. Seems to be run by a Japanese couple, making the experience more authentic. This decor reminds me of those small restos in Tokyo. I can't emphasize enough how good this place is so definitely coming back. I can't even wait to go home to do the review. Hopefully more people discover this Japanese restaurant.

Everyone enjoyed their meal at this Japanese restaurant last time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall establishment, but they serve some.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Fresh and great Japanese cuisine in my opinion. Everything that we ordered tasted so authentic ( considering that I have been to Japan before) and the service wasn't bad at all.

Great place to have a small dinner bites if you are tired or not felling cooking. Always fresh and fast service.

Sushi Anza is a small restaurant with a calm environment! It wasn't busy at all on a Saturday night. We ordered the fried calamari appetizer, the salmon bowl, and the chirashi deluxe. The calamari was tasty, but had super thick pieces in comparison to other places I've ordered. The breading was also falling off on a lot of the pieces. The salmon was good, but wasn't as fresh as it could've been. Sushi Anza was good, but there are better sushi places in the Torrance area in my opinion.

Sushi Anza is a small mom & pop hole-in-the wall Japanese restaurant in Torrance. It's been around for awhile so it's a go-to place for a chill casual night out. The restaurant is really small and doesn't have a lot of tables inside so I like coming here for takeout. They get a bunch of takeout orders so order way ahead of time because it takes awhile. This place is great for sushi. My favorite roll to get is the eel avocado roll. The staff is very nice and friendly. Parking is free and in front of the restaurant. Can't wait to come back here again!

Very cozy and family like atmosphere! Sushi is great and they have special tacos style sushi !^_^ There are free parking outside and I highly recommend ^_^

If you want to try Osechi (Japanese New Year's feast), this is the best place to get it from!!! You need to order it ahead of time and pick up on Dec 31. It was $218 including tax this time. It was sooooo well worth it. Everything was fresh. So many different items!! We decided to have it right away as NY Eve dinner (which is already NY in Japan!) We wormed up the snapper in the oven, but everything else was great as is. We enjoyed it with another couple, and it was more than enough for 4 of us. Chef Kazu and his wife Kazumi are a great couple. We go have sushi and sake there once in awhile. And their sake tasting events are insanely fun. It's a tiny place, so make sure to reserve your seat for it. :):)

Quiet hidden gem in Torrance. There hasn't been a review in a while, but I echo all the positive sentiments that came before me. Great food, beautiful decor, kind service, and amazing price. Some memorable moments: - the shrimp tempura was a light batter and soft which allows the flavor of the shrimp to shine - both the taco and burrito were good. But I recommend getting one of them and not both, or else too much rice - I had the sashimi chefs choice platter which had great selection. The uni was particular memorable in taste. - the toro handle was was half at $6.5. Simply unbeatable price. Highly recommend folks to come check out this restaurant

Such a hidden gem! Sushi Anza is one of the few authentic Japanese sushi joints in the area. It's a family-owned small business that serves some of the freshest fish i've ever had and the owners always provide great service. They also have sake tasting events where you get to try some of the best sake imported from Japan--make sure you make a reservation for that early because spots fill up fast!! Overall an amazing culinary experience and can't wait to come back

This place has been opened for a long time and finally got around to trying it out! I love sushi and I'm always looking for a good low key sushi place and I think I could it! The fish was fresh and very good! Everything I tried had great flavor. The service was good and waitress was polite and helpful! I will be coming back

While I can't say with certainty what caused it, I won't be returning. Cleanliness was my biggest concern. The shared public restrooms were filthy, and many surfaces throughout the restaurant felt sticky, as if they hadn't been cleaned regularly. That alone made me question the overall sanitation. The fried food tasted like it had been cooked in old oil. The grilled fish was dry, overcooked, and lacked flavor. Service was virtually nonexistent, and the staff seemed uninterested in helping customers. The atmosphere appeared to cater more to drinking than dining. Based on my experience, the food quality, cleanliness, and service all fell well below expectations. I would not return and cannot recommend this restaurant.

Best Sashimi Comes From a Seafood Shack in the South Bay?…read more Are you shocked because I was shocked that I was in love with the cuts of fresh tuna and salmon sashimi. Honestly so good that I didn't need soy sauce. It was the perfect cut of thickness and no fishy smell. Honestly I don't know why didn't think of this any sooner! We are at Captain Kidds in Redondo Beach, CA! They are the seafood experts for decades and I feel bad for ever doubting their sashimi quality. It beats any sushi restaurant in the city. Plus it was so affordable because you are paying by the pound. Trust me go to the fish counter and order up some sashimi! You will not regret it and plus take it outside to the patio and enjoy the beach breezes from Redondo. Plus they got everything else that is seafood related from lobster rolls, seafood boil, grilled fish, clam chowder and soooo much more with beer on tap and cocktails galore. Kid's meals too ! This seafood experience changed me it in the most delicious way.

Back with another review!…read more My homegirl and her friend stopped by Captain Kidd's in Redondo Beach and ordered the fish & chips with two sides (corn and fries), plus an order of popcorn shrimp. Her friend also got popcorn shrimp with fries and rice. First things first... she really wished they let you order just the fish. apparently everything automatically comes with sides, and she genuinely wasn't in the mood for that. She only wanted the fish and chips, so her friend ended up eating all the sides. It would've been nice if they had an à la carte option. As for the restaurant itself, it's definitely a casual spot. When you walk in, the left side is a seafood market where you can buy fresh fish and shrimp by the pound, and the right side is the restaurant. Fair warning--it smells exactly like what you'd expect from a fresh seafood market. You order at the counter, find a seat, and wait for them to call your number over the intercom. Seating is mostly outdoor picnic tables, so don't come expecting a date-night vibe or anything upscale. This is more of a grab-a-bite kind of place. Now, the food... it was okay. The fish and popcorn shrimp were your typical battered and fried seafood. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. It just didn't leave her wanting to come back. Overall, she wouldn't necessarily recommend it unless you're looking for a quick seafood meal or plan on taking your food to go. The food was decent, but between the atmosphere, limited ordering options, and average taste, it just wasn't her vibe.

The interior is neat and clean. There are various types of seating (bar; table; booth; high-tops; communal), and plenty of screens to watch sports. On this occasion, I ordered the Tavern Fish & Chips ($22). It is described as "Alaskan cod coated in a tempura beer batter and served with French fries, tartar sauce and yuzu herb coleslaw". The positives of this dish are that it was prepared well. Both the fish and chips tasted good. The presentation was also nice; which leads to the coleslaw: The coleslaw tasted good, too; but I was surprised the serving was so spare. It's almost as if it was served just to optically balance the presentation in the basket. (See photo shared,) And while the price was not unreasonable, feel it's creeping towards expensive (relative to serving size). I'll attribute this to rising input costs. Staffing might be an issue during the lunchtime service. Service was okay, but they seemed to be understaffed. It's possible that most of their business is done after 5pm.
