Well...we had a mixed experience here. The food was good, but there were multiple service issues. We ordered miso soup, edamame and some sushi rolls. The miso soup came out minutes after we ordered it. It was flavorful and seemed fresh. Our sushi rolls came out minutes later which seemed a little fast for sushi, but it wasn't busy yet and maybe they are just really quick at making rolls. I had an Alaska roll and a mango shrimp roll. Both did seem fresh and were solid in terms of flavor and being nicely rolled. No edamame yet...we tried flagging down a server with no luck...I think our edamame may have erroneously been delivered to the table behind us. Some of what was happening was one person would take orders and others would bring out food; things seemed a little chaotic even though they weren't super busy. Once we finished our sushi I finally got a server's attention and asked about the edamame. She left and brought out a bowl quickly and it was fresh and good. So...this was our third course...we were thinking about more sushi or dessert, but they plopped the check down with no comment. No, it wasn't close to closing time. I put my credit card in the bill folder, and a bit later a folder without my card and a different unpaid bill was put on the table. I quickly flagged someone down to inquire about the whereabouts of my credit card. I assumed my card and paid bill was on someone else's table (probably with the edamame ). The server first seemed to doubt I didn't have it, so I showed her the empty slot in my wallet. She then left with the wrong bill and folder and returned later with the correct bill and my card stating the card fell on the floor, but they found it. Wow. They did take off the $5 for Yelp check in though! The friend I was with commented that she'd maybe get takeout from them in the future, but wouldn't dine in again. I'm inclined to agree. Maybe this was an off night service wise, but the almost losing my credit card issue was pretty bad... There is a small parking lot behind the building if you don't feel like parking on the street. Had lunch at the sushi bar in broad ripple village. There is street parking in front with meters. I think there may be parking in back. Unless there is an entry in back, access could be a problem; I'll go back and take note next time; otherwise you have to use stairs(maybe 10-15) to enter. I've had carryout from here several times. For lunch I had miso soup, octopus and tuna nigiri, and fish eggs; and Mochi ice cream for dessert(mango and strawberry. I really like the staff, they are pleasant but focused on processing your order. I've not been in there when it was packed, so can't say if it's too noisy for a conversation. I enjoyed everything for lunch. The portion sizes were some of the larger I've seen. Sushi and udon were delicious and affordable as a Butler university student. While some of the combos can get a bit pricey, they have a lot of great rolls in the 10-15$ range. The service was a bit slow, but it was a Saturday night and the staff seemed spread a little thin. While busy, the staff were very polite, and the manager checked in with us before we left. I got the phoenix and dragon rolls, which were both good, and their soups were very nice. Every time I go without a doubt I order the Sushi Bar Special #1 and subsitute the tuna roll for a CRISPY spicy tine roll. This special comes with salad, miso soup, six pieces of nigiri, and a tuna roll for only $20.49. As a college student and sushi lover I could not ask for a better price for how much food you get. We ordered three rolls on our last visit: Spicy Girl, Christmas, and New York. It was the perfect balance of adventurous and classic. The Spicy Girl may have been one of the best rolls I've ever tasted. The contents were a bit out of my comfort zone and it was still excellent. At first I thought maybe I was just seeing the crab in a weird lighting but no--definitely onions. But okay--they were edible I suppose but I wouldn't order them again. I bought the beef yaki udon mostly for my husband but had to have a few bites since I've never had it before. I could have lived without. The beef, however, was delicious in it! But the overall flavor was lacking. Now here's where I got really irritated (partially ignorance on my part) but the spider wig roll features "soft shell crab, avocado, topped with spicy tuna and pineapple"; sounds delicious, right?! Well, a few pieces in, I started getting this weird crunch--not a tasty crunch, more like it didn't belong crunch. So I investigated. It's a shell-on soft shell crab! Like I said--ignorance on my part but I feel like that could be in their description. Okay--last annoyance--they didn't devein the shrimp for the shrimp tempura...sure, some people don't mind but if I'm paying the amount of money I paid, the least the can do is clean the shrimp properly. Building: cute intimate dining. 1 large table in back for large groups and a small room up front for a private dining experience. A friend and I have been trying to get together for sushi lately, and we were finally able to meet up on a Friday evening. Our normal place gets packed and we knew there would be a wait, so we decided to give Sushi Bar a try. Honestly, I had never heard of it. My friend had - and knowing they took reservations - called and made one for 6:30 on a Friday night. Judging by the people waiting as we left, this was a great move on our part! I'm a big fan of wasabi tobiko and hand rolls, and I've never found a place in Indy that has the tobiko and only one place with hand rolls. Sushi Bar had both, so I gave them both a try. Wasabi tobiko is a super intense wasabi burn. Just as quickly as it hits you, it goes away. Absolutely delicious and the fact they have them will get them my return business. I went with the spicy tuna hand roll and was happy with it, but I think they went a little light on the tuna. For the price, I thought it was a bit small, but I'd give it a try once more to see if its any bigger. I'm already starting to think about that wasabi tobiko again and I'm pretty sure I'll be there again really soon. read more
