After going a year(!) without any AYCE sushi (thanks to Tomokazu going way downhill) and almost starving to death, my friends and I were offered this beacon of hope out in the Lonsdale area. With what limited energy we had, the group of us made the trek across the bridge and down the road. Free parking is available in the area. Sure beats Vancouver where half the meal is spent paying for a spot. The place looks fairly modern, with plenty of wood trim. There is a 2nd dining room in the back that requires going up 3 or so steps. Something to keep in mind. The servers were friendly but not too helpful. We had to nitpick our orders. More on this later. The AYCE here is technically AYCE, but there are a pile of extra restrictions which left us scratching our heads. 1) The time limit here is 1.5h which is shorter than the competition. However, they didn't start the timer until we started ordering, which is reasonable. 2) They are *especially* anal about wasted food here. I understand that one should eat everything that is ordered, but the $10 penalty per person (which I've heard they are quite sticky over) is a bit draconian. The staff mentioned this quite a few times throughout the evening. We had to slowly handpick our orders. I heard stories about people getting charged the penalty over 1-2 uneaten pieces of sushi. Not sure how true this is, but my friends and I weren't about to find out. 3) They have some sort of weird arbitrary rules for ordering. For example, our order form also had an extra limit of 20 pieces of nigiri per round. This might make sense for a table of 2, but there were 5 of us. We had to argue back and forth with the staff over this. What did they want us to do, fire off 3 orders back to back? The extra squabbling throughout the entire meal really put a damper on our experience. Knock 1 star right off. I'm tempted to knock off 2 stars, but will not only because their product is decent. As for the food quality, the quality is there. However, several things also come to mind. 1) Several items on the menu were also out of stock. Salmon belly was the one I distinctly remember, but there were a couple of others the day we went. 2) There is no dessert here for AYCE. No mango pudding or jello or orange slices. However, they do have ice cream available for an extra cost. 3) Several items are noticeably missing compared to the competition. This place doesn't have beef short ribs or chicken skewers. However they do have pork belly skewers. 4) The nigiri fish slices are quite thin. The rice portion is decent (as in not too big), but they skimped on the fish. See photo. 5) They were quite slow with the food orders. Not (new) Tomokazu slow, but we had to wait quite a bit. Not to mention that for some reason they couldn't input our order properly (see 20 piece nigiri limit above). We had to take some pieces off and stick them into the next order. With all the negativity there, this place does have a few things going for it. 1) The cones are quite delicious I must say. Unlike the competition, this place doesn't stuff the things full of rice. 2) The seafood selection is pretty decent. For example, they have toro and tako and saba nigiri. 3) Ingredients seem quite fresh. 4) Presentation is especially good. Overall the food was decent, but the ordering experience really left a bad taste in our mouths. Maybe some people will have a better experience with a la carte. Not sure if I'll be back anytime soon. I might actually have to give Tomokazu a 2nd chance. read more

TLDR, don't come here for AYCE. Came in on a Wednesday night, we were greeted and sat down quickly. Their AYCE menu had pretty standard items, but to our surprise, it even included sashimi. Their service is pretty slow here, took around 10 mins just to get waters, 20-25 mins for our food to get to us. You know when the restaurant is up to no good when they bring you the food and tell you "you have to finish all the rice".... I've been to a lot of ayce sushi places and this has to be by far the most rice I've seen for a nigiri. The rice for the nigiris were pressed from a box mold, this just tells me that their sushi chefs were too lazy to hand make them. Not only that, their rice was hard like it wasn't cooked long enough. The rice to fish ratio was just hilariously ridiculous. Definitely won't be coming back. Only giving an extra star here because their fish was actually decent quality and they provided sashimi in their ayce. read more

I went here for the all you can eat with my family. The service was one of the top 3 worst that I've ever had. To say it was slow would have been an understatement. Each round took 30 min to show up at the table. And each time we didn't get half of the cooked stuff that we asked for. It wasn't like we ordered that much either. I suspect that they were deliberately withholding some items like prawn tempura and pork belly. It's also a total bait and switch. There's a limit on how much sashimi you can order per person (9 pieces). Considering you're paying $45 that's a little crappy. But the really sketchy part is that the sashimi pieces you get from AYCE is HALF the size that you get when ordering off the regular menu. So really you're getting 4.5 pieces. We went to Sushi Bella for the AYCE lunch. We saw, over the years, many AYCE sushi restaurants closed down in Greater Vancouver and so we were excited to see a new one popped up in North Vancouver. The price for lunch was about $35/person, and the offerings were similar to other AYCE places. Sushi Bella did offer limited sashimi (salmon & tuna) which was nice. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. What was unexpectable was the server's attitude about the rules regarding food waste. Of course, one should not waste food, but the server's approach was almost confrontational. If you go for all you can eat, you can stay away. First, for the sashimi, you can only make 3orders max. 3 order means 9pcs per person. Second, you have to have enough time for the meal, it takes 1.5 hours to get the sushi rolls. Last, the rice of their sushi is twice size than normal, beware when you ordered. We ordered salmon aburi, saba aburi, salmon and tuna sashimi, plus 3 rolls. Everything tasted just average. Nothing we would come back for unfortunately. The aburi had a lot of rice, and the sauces were too sweet. I couldn't taste the saba in saba aburi at all. Service was very good. read more

Solid choice, decent food. Kind of pricey for what it is, I usually gauge a place on their negitoro roll price and theirs is $6. And they're not miku or yugo or even going for that type of vibe.. so the price doesn't make a ton of sense but you won't get a bad meal here. read more

We finally made it - twice in one weekend. Yes, it was delicious. The plates look like a work of art. The food was delicious. The location is great. Very happy with our orders. Funny thing, I had an old half-written review here in drafts that said I love Sushi Bella. I don't love Sushi Bella anymore. They used to have fish tacos on the menu. Yes, weird for a sushi place, but I like them and it meant they got huge takeout orders from my household because we craved their tempura/mango fish taco goodness. They took them off the menu. The AYCE is hilariously filled with resentment from the staff, it is almost like watching a mockumentary they're so bitter and scolding with their warnings when people enter and sit down to eat, then those customers are expected to relax and enjoy themselves at $45 per person? They should stop offering it, they're far too uptight and untrained in how to give good service to customers to be able to pull off "all you can eat". This used to be my go-to Sushi restaurant in North Van. I would drive from another part of North Van & past about five Japanese restaurants to get my takeout from Sushi Bella. Not anymore. The last time I dined in the restaurant was the last warm day in October this year (2023). My partner had arrived there first and asked for a table. The front of house up to the stairs to the back dining room was all empty tables, except for one other table dining near the very front, and a person sitting at the bar waiting for take-out. My partner is 6'5" and he's a bit of a brick wall. They sat him at one of their small narrow tables which are a reasonable size space for two small people ordering a few plates sitting across from each other, or for one person of any size ordering their meal and using all the space on the tiny table. When seated, he had asked if he could sit at the larger table to either his right or left, and he was told "no, those are for more customers with larger parties when they come in". I joined my partner at our table, we ordered a tower and a few other plates. There was barely any room at the table for our food plates after they brought the tower and salad and we had to keep our arms in our laps because there was no rest area on the table. We ate from the dishes themselves rather than parse it out because ...there was no room for us to just be two tall big people eating a meal. I knocked over the soy sauce with my elbow and it went all over the carpet. They should have let us have a table worthy of a couple spending $120 on lunch. We won't be going back, and I'm not ordering my takeout from them anymore because they were judgemental and unkind in how they treated my partner & they were utterly useless standing by not helping when our table was crowded with plates and spilling condiments due to plates shifting. Not one of them came over from the huddle and they all saw it happen. I'm also tired of watching them treat every customer like shit after they walk in with a smile on their face having seen the sandwich board advertising All You Can Eat Sushi. It ruins my experience to witness them give the scolding speech, witness the table all discuss the vibe and process their decision with warning, and then we all sit there paying for food from people who act like jerks, and bond as we exchange glances re. the angry staff. read more

My partner and I had a terrible experience at Sushi Bella last night. The last time we visited was pre-covid when they had AYCE, we LOVED it. The quality was great, service was great and we left happy. We just moved into the area and were excited to come back... Unfortunately it was not the same experience. We understood that there was a $10 penalty if you didn't finish all your food, but were told we only had a certain amount of time to order so we ordered enough food for the both of us. The quality was not the same as last time, the sushi cones were huge and full of rice. When we asked for the bill, we probably had 2 pieces of sushi, the rice half of two cones and the bones and skin of the grilled Salmon Collar. Our server said we had to finish EVERYTHING and we had 30 minutes, we felt sick to our stomachs but finished the the sushi pieces but didn't want to eat the bones/skin or the rice from the two cones. I wish I took a photo it was literally scraps of food. Even the family next to us told us how ridiculous that is and we should just hide the food in the napkin. The server ended up waiving the penalty for us this one time, but was not very kind throughout the whole experience. I've been to a lot of AYCE places in my lifetime, I truly understand wanting to avoid waste by having a penalty, but I've only seen restaurants charge it when there is a clear amount of food wasted. Not skin, bones and some morsels of dry rice. The experience costed us almost $100 (we still left a small tip), but we will not be returning. read more

Yes, there are some strict rules related to their AYCE sushi. But the rules are very clear, and communicated very clearly in advance. If you don't like the rules you should absolutely not eat here, but no sense eating and then complaining because you can't follow the very clearly stated rules. Ate lunch here today and we were easily able to order 4 rounds of food in about 75 minutes, well under the allotted 90 minutes. We enjoyed everything we ordered, and I was pleasantly surprised to find little to no filler. For example the beef teriyaki is about 90% beef teriyaki, with a small pile of vegetables underneath - no rice at all! My personal favorite was the yam roll - we were visiting from San Diego and none of the sushi places near us have those! read more

One of the chefs came in from outside after smoking and didn't wash their hands prior to handling food again. The AYCE menu is ok but they're very strict about finishing every last bite and made a point of telling me they'd let it slide this time but next time they'd charge me for wasted food. Want to know what I "wasted"? One and a half clumps of nigiri rice because the chef used WAY TOO MUCH vinegar, and a couple udon noodles. That was all that I left on my plate but they still made a point to say "next time we will have to charge". Well there won't be a next time after you act like you're doing me a favour by not charging me a $10 penalty for about $0.15 worth of food I didn't finish. I just had the all-you-can-eat lunch special here. The menu says $24.99 with 18% gratuity included. Beware! The bill was $24.99, plus tax, PLUS 18% on top of it all. After a morning at Spa Utopia in North Vancouver my daughters and I decided to grab some Sushi for lunch! Sushi Bella has a great menu and the decor was cute so we settled in here! I ordered the Lunch Teriyaki Bento Box and was not disappointed!! I choose the chicken option with Chicken Karaage! Everything was delicious! They have a great menu with lots of fun options to try. Would have loved to try the Gyozas as well...and the Tempura...next time! I read some other negative reviews about the service but we found the service was prompt and courteous! Maybe lunch is a good time to visit Sushi Bella! My only complaint would be they didn't serve green tea with our meal...I love that tradition...always feels like such a nice gesture of hospitality! When it wasn't offered it felt as though something was missing...I know I could have ordered some but then it still would be lacking in the hospitality that other restaurants extend to their guests! We really enjoyed our food though...the rolls my girls ordered were equally as delicious as my Bento Box! I walk by this place almost daily, but without a particular reason I never really felt the urge to try this place. Turns out that was a very bad gut feeling. The location on Lonsdale is great and they have a nice patio area. The inside of Sushi Bella is cosy and feels like a place where you can spend a relaxing dinner with family or friends without being rushed. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us close to the cute fake cherry blossom tree in the back. I read a different review that said the staff here is slow, but I actually liked this. To me, it wasn't the type of slow that is bothersome and it made me feel they wanted us to be comfortable and not rush us out. We ordered the chicken karaage and a few of the "safe" rolls. As a big fan of karaage, Sushi Bella definitely has my approval! First of all, the amount of chicken you get is awesome! Some restaurants give you 4 pieces of chicken but at this place, it felt they give us at least a full chicken. It is spiced well, juicy, and the mayo they serve with it is delicious! This chicken karaage made me very happy. We ordered the Ocean Dream, Salmon & Cream Cheese, and Spicy Salmon rolls. Now, I'm not a big fan of rolls and would rather order nigiri, but the quality of the rolls was great. You could taste that the rolls were freshly made with high-quality ingredients. You get to pick if you want wild salmon or farmed salmon, something I thought was cool as well. Looking at the quality of the food and the sizes of the portions I feel that the food is very reasonably priced, maybe even a bit on the cheap side. When we left the place it dawned on me that I've been a bit of an idiot for not giving this place a fair chance sooner. It saddens me to continue to lower my rating of what used to be my favourite sushi place in North Vancouver. However, this has nothing to do with the food itself but how the restaurant is run that will make me look elsewhere from now on. It is a busy place so on three separate occasions I made a point of trying to get there before the dinner rush. In all three cases there was a forty or more minute wait for a place that had many open tables. Worse is that I stood up front for more than ten minutes, being flat out ignored, before someone would come over and curtly say they were very busy and I would have to wait. The tables outside were crammed with people so close to one another it could not have been a comfortable meal. There are many other options in North Vancouver so you need to really be on top of your game to make it. This is not the way to do it. read more

Always enjoy coming here! I love that they have wild salmon and brown rice available. Also they carry wheat-free tamari upon request. The menu is diverse and there is lots to chose from. The staff is always friendly, however when it's busy then service becomes slow. The decor is cozy and modern Japanese style. We always come out feeling deliciously full. read more

Aesthetically, Sushi Bella is the nicest/chic-est place to have sushi out in North Vancouver. They seem to focus on creative and interesting rolls, but their appy's and mains are really good too. The Bella Tower is a main in the form of a moulded stack of chopped sashimi and crabmeat. The mixed veggie tempura is one of my faves though because instead of just the standard slices of yam and potato, Sushi Bella does giant hunks of broccoli, asparagus, red pepper, yam, and mushroom. This is a basic and decent neighborhood sushi restaurant. The value is average, if a bit below average. The rolls were smaller than what I had hoped for the price. The quality of the fish was good enough. Not at all bad, but not at all superlative. Sort of average fish quality. Good for those who live within walking distance. Not worth traveling to. I would not hesitate to return if I found myself on Lonsdale wanting sushi. read more
