I hate to have to leave this review but feel the need to. My friend and I came for happy hour. There was only 1 server who was clearly busy taking online orders, etc. We had to flag him down to order and saw our sushi sitting on the counter. We were going to grab it ourselves but the chef literally came out and was about to walk it to us, even he noting that it was taking the server too long to bring it to us. The waiter never came and checked on us one time during our meal. After getting our checks, we discovered he overcharged us. We tried to get his attention but saw he was talking to a server about something on his cell phone and asked us to wait a minute. Absolutely unacceptable. Parking isn't great (located in a small plaza with a bunch of stores/eateries), but I do enjoy my experience here every time I come. Price is fair for the quality of the food. Came in with some co-workers for lunch and had a good experience. The place is a little small but due to what is going on, it was easy to come in and receive service. The appetizers were good but the sushi was a little inconsistent. Some tasted much more fresh than other rolls. In all there was 3 of us and we ordered 2 apps and 4 rolls and it was plenty enough. I went here on Valentines day for dinner and even with it being a holiday the service and food was excellent! I'm not a huge fan of sushi I had found this place on a whim since my friends were craving it and we all couldn't stop talking about how delicious everything was. I would drive the Back Bay home from work and would often stop at this Sushi Bar for dinner. The Sushi was good and well priced. Fast forward a few years. I live in a different city. In those few years this place has changed hands and it is 100% deplorably awful. It was a Thursday & I was in Newport for business. I did not want to drive the freeways at 5:45 PM - so I remembered how much I liked this place and popped in for a bit of Sushi and Green Tea. They were not busy as it was still early. I sat at the Sushi Bar and as I perused the menu the 60-ish Sushi Chef asked if I wanted anything. I said yes, I would like a light roll - all fish - no rice - soy paper if he wanted and salmon roe on top. He repeated my order back to me. So one would assume he knew what he was doing. He handed me a roll with rice on the outside all cucumber and avocado in the center and the THINNEST slices of Salmon on the top with a drizzle of Roe. I was hungry & tired so I thought, well, it can't be that bad. Holeeeee Crap. The rice was dry and stale and the roll was so beyond disappointing. I picked off the anemic amount of fish and just ate that. I should have sent the Roll back but at this point I just wanted to get home. I was SHOCKED when the they handed me a bill for $20.00 !!! The most 'Pricy' Roll on the entire menu is $18.99. And that is loaded with a ton of fish. This roll had none & they charge me TWENTY FRICKEN DOLLARS. Oooohhh... But Wait.... There's more. I went to the 'only' restroom they have for all their customers and was greeted by what only can be described as a scene from a Horror Movie. I've been in Arco bathrooms in the middle of the desert that have been decimated by teenagers that were cleaner and in better condition than this ! OOOohhh... But Wait.... There's MORE! On my way home I started feeling sick. I had to pull off the 57 Freeway in the growing darkness and throw up on the side of the road. I nearly didn't make it home to throw up again. She told me to call grub hub, the one who delivered it and they can refund me and that's as much as she would help me. A little hole in the wall sushi place. I was wonderfully surprised by how tasty the sushi was. We got mixed tempura that had a dipping sauce which had a hint of ginger. It was different and refreshing. The shrimp tempura roll was my favorite. We also go some other regular rolls. Even during covid they had indoor dining ( but limited). We discovered this place through a friend and its probably one of the best tasting sushi restaurants we have been too! I just got my nails done at nailsneedlove right next store and I may be feeling myself typing this review but I can recommend 3 other sushi places in the area that blow this place out of the water. I gave 5 stars bc I hate to act like a Karen on a pedestal with my reviews BUT I still had to let y'all know this sushi is not good. We ordered the creamy tiger, hot night, and the Jessica alba roll. The creamy tiger fell apart and had way too much cream cheese, the hot night was the only decent roll but the quality of fish was a major thumbs down. The Jessica alba had Cajun seared albacore and I feel like people only do that bc their fish quality is bad and I think sushi district hit the nail on the head with that theory. Also the rolls are dumb over priced. You can get the same hot night roll down the street and it's fuego. If you wanna pay these prices for wonderful fish go to sushi sho or sushi etcetera. read more

Do not come here during the pandemic if you are considered high risk. I was extremely disappointed when I came in to see that none of the kitchen staff prepping food were wearing masks. Based on the stellar Yelp reviews about how they're taking extra precautions for COVID, I thought for sure they would be doing the basic of masking up when prepping food. This was not the case. Drove up around 11:50a to order for take out. Was really looking forward to having some of their rolls based on the pics and reviews on Yelp. However, when I walked in (door was open for business), no one had a mask on. Two employees who were working front of the house were sitting at a booth with no masks. Three employees who were back of the house (1 guy behind sushi bar and two employees in the back kitchen) were all without masks. All 3 were in the middle of prepping food. I don't care if you just opened. Why the hell is the kitchen staff touching food with no mask on?!! COVID is airborne. Knowing that 3 people were breathing all over my food prior to me ordering it gives me absolutely ZERO CONFIDENCE about the level of safety precautions taken by the restaurant to protect its customers and staff. You might as well go take a dump and fail to wash your hands before handling food. That's just as unacceptable. As I was backing my car out, I saw a customer walk in with no mask. Big NO to this restaurant--DO NOT COME HERE. I'm pregnant and I live with elderly parents both with underlying conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes). No meal is worth their lives or the life of my unborn baby. Ended up driving to another sushi place 2min down the street where everyone wore masks. read more

I was hoping to leave a good review for this business but I can't. Many red flags as I walked in. No one to greed as you come in which is not a deal beakers for me. What was was the girl who later took my order and was quite rude and the man doing the rolls on his phone. He was the ting on his phone while preparing food did not wash his hands nor used gloves. I paid $10 for a hand roll that my toddler could eat in two bites. After I saw how small it was I ordered cut rolls and got the wrong thing and badly assembled. It couldn't have been fresher and the pieces were huge! Also another small piece on top of both you could eat alone. So cold..so fresh..so big...omg. Amazing! The bento box was what you would expect, but just done and presented perfectly. Chicken was great and plentiful. Roll was large. Lots of salad. Big scoop of rice. Miso soup was good. The chicken meat was juicy and honestly just damn near perfect..and did I mention the yellowtail collar which I probably had (warning- explicit) an orgasm 5 times (my friend counted). The fact that they didn't drown their yellowtail and baked muscles in sauces was 2Legit2Quit. By the time we were done with appetizers, I was ready for a cig (I don't even smoke). But an old fashioned Marlboro.. not those weird vape sticks everyone is addicted to. But I came to Sushi District to conceive a food baby, so I mustered up the appetite to take on or (attempt to) our sushi platter. Sliced thiccc, fresh, and unforgettable, pieces of GRADE A assorted sashimi, sushi, and one roll. Its like I went on a date-not with my friend, but the restaurant itself and the date went perfectly.. chemistry, attraction, compatibility, and towards the end, you realize your going to come (spell that how you want) over and over.
