We were in the area and craving sushi, so we looked this place up and saw it had a lot of great reviews. We decided to give it a try, and we're really glad we did. It did not disappoint. Staff were very friendly and attentive and took good care of us. Big sushi bar wide open with the cooks all friendly and smiling. The fish was extremely fresh -- nothing smelled fishy at all -- and everything we ordered was delicious. Portions were generous, prices were reasonable, and we left very happy and satisfied.

A highly regarded sushi spot in Old Town that offers really good sushi and more. The vibe is casual and the presentation is pretty good depending on what you order. I had a couple of à la carte items and the Chirashi bowl to start off with. The cuts were really good and I could taste the care put into it. It's a good spot for sushi but when they look at you like you can't afford it and keep telling you the price of each item and trying to question you if you're sure you want to order the item? I definitely have a problem with that. I didn't get the memo that you had to dress a certain way and look a certain way to get decent service. Everyone around me seemed to be normal like me, so I really didn't appreciate or understand why this was happening to me. So not freaking cool man. That's probably my only gripe with this place besides the parking, LoL. Our last item of the awkward evening was the Chawanmushi which was so good but I was wanting a little more bang for my buck if you know what I mean. Are the Tariffs still in effect? And that's my take on it, Peace.

We were here last night, and honestly the host experience was pretty frustrating. There were about 4-5 tables open, but we were still made to wait outside in the cold. The host just walked around looking busy instead of seating us, which didn't make much sense. That said, the food was good. We ordered Chef No. 1 and Chef No. 2 rolls -- both were great, but Chef No. 1 was my favorite. The salmon sashimi was also our favorite dish overall, very fresh and tasty. The interior is nice and clean, which we appreciated. Food was solid, but the hosting situation really needs improvement.

As good as it gets when you about to drop some money on sushi. Clean quality seafood, and amazing service. Love the restaurant vibe the moment you walk in. Greetings from the host, the chefs all acknowledge your presence, and the aura you get just by sitting at your table speaks for itself. Always get the lemon roll! One of my favorite. I mean everything is spot on. The fresh crab hand roll. Truffle halibut, one of a kind. Chu-toro for the win! Super fatty and subtle. The yellowtail and yellowtail belly is my utmost favorite cut when it comes to having sushi. Fresh flavor and Enya delivers the quality. Also assorted sashimi is amazing. They don't skimp! Just remember you're going to pay for this quality. They do things elegantly here. You receive a story with each bite. When I say top tier this is it. Love everything about Sushi Enya. Always remember top off my food with some sake and beer x2 cause you know sushi ain't sushi without some shots and palate cleansers (21 and over that is) Enjoy!

What a great restaurant. Impeccable service, friendly, and great sushi in an area where there are a lot of amazing Sushi restaurants. Sit at the sushi bar and get Omakase like I did. You don't be disappointed. Can't wait to come back!

Our fourth time back at sushi enya because my boyfriend says it's his favorite and I agree! Food is amazing from rolls to sashimi! Pasadena location has a convenient park and pay next to the business. When entering we usually get to choose where we sit.(we time our visits and come right when they open lol) Service is great workers are always attentive, filling up our water when it's almost empty, checking up on us when we are ready to order more! It's nice quiet and the bar seems like a nice place to conversations with the sushi chef. We usually order a couple of rolls and end up the meal with sushi if we're hungry. The rolls here are great, nicely cut so it's not too big and perfect for a bite. Fish is fresh, sauce is not too overpowering or overwhelming. This time ordered albacore helly but they were out! Gotta try it next time, love you sushi enya!!

Wow! How refreshing to see a truly unique menu with creative options for everyone. As a vegetarian, my only choice at many Japanese restaurants is between a cucumber roll and an avocado roll. I got the Vegan Green Man specialty roll. However, I had a hard time deciding as they also offer asparagus truffle oil, sweet corn tempura and Japanese eggplant sushi rolls - flavors I have not seen on any other menu. My husband got the lemon roll and cherry blossom roll. HUGE! Everything beautifully plated in generous portions. Our waiter was fantastic. He took it upon himself to remedy our wobbly table even though it wasn't bothering us. He discussed the vegetarian rolls with me including which he personally enjoyed. The restaurant is very clean and it has a nice atmosphere. I can't wait to go back. Best Japanese I have eaten in a long time.

Wife enjoying a delicious desert following a meal of fresh well prepared sushi including Uni.

Outstanding service and food, highly recommend. Wide selection of often hard to find Sushi options, excellent desert selection and as a family business with two generations of staff working in the restaurant an extremely high degree of customer care.

The best omakase! I went yesterday and the place did not disappoint. The chef made the most delicious dishes, but the best part was the fenomenal service. It was an amazing experience. The place is clean, quiet and their seasonal sake was soooo tasty. I will be back!!

Ask the Community - Sushi Enya - Pasadena

    How much is omakase?

$180 pp for basic and $250 pp for deluxe. See my review for further information

    Is it Omakase only?

No, it is not only Omakase.

    Do you open for lunch?

    Yes

Is the Pasadena location less busy than the downtown location for a large group of 6?

This Pasadena location is definitely more chill than the downtown location. But with bigger parties we arrive at 5:30 when they open to make things easier :)

    How to change omakase reservation?

Call and speak with the host/ess. You need verbal confirmation of the change.

Since there are no reservations, how long is the wait time to get seated?

Good question! We usually show up 15 minutes before they open and get seated right away as they open their doors. Going around 7pm, may mean an hour wait or more...

How much is omakase dinner pp?

$225, but you can find it on their web page

    Do they have unagi bowls?

    Sorry I can't remember.

Do they have AYCE option, if so how much?

    No, they do not.

    Do they take reservations?

    Nope

The noodles came with plenty of chicken, potatoes, onions, bell peppers, and of course, knife-cut, hand-pulled noodles. The dish had quite a kick. They went heavy on the Szechuan peppercorn, and my mouth was tingling during all of dinner! The chicken was tender, and the noodles were fresh and perfectly chewy. But in my opinion, there were just too many onions! I felt like I had to dig through onions to find the noodles. The scallion pancakes were delicious. They came out hot and perfectly crispy. The service was also great. The staff was friendly and kept my glass of water full.

First time I got beef pad se ew and it was yummy. I went for early dinner on a Tuesday and the place was empty. The second time I went I got tofu pad Thai and it too was yummy. This time I went for lunch (they have great lunch specials) and the place was busy and buzzing. Note that here they put sautéed purple onions in their pad Thai. I'm used to onions on the dish being green onions. I happen to hate onions so it was a bummer, but I just picked them out and it was fine. Both times I got Thai iced tea, I'm lactose intolerant so can't usually have it. They have oat milk to substitute for the milk. Shame on me for missing out on their delicious food for sixteen years. I seem to recall back then it was more Thai fusion than it is now. But I have consumed a lot of beer, wine, cocktails in the interim so my brain could be foggy on that account. Nevertheless the food we ate was fantastic. I would love to get bottles of their sauces to cook with at home. The summer wraps are largely lettuce and Thai mint - I prefer having a bit more carrot and cuke in them, but I'm not the boss. The spinach peanut with tofu had epic spinach and tasty tofu. The Chinese broccoli in the Pad See Ew was nice and crisp. I guess there is parking in the lot in the back of the store. Seems to be marked for specific stores. I wonder, does the Spa really get that busy they need that many spots? I didn't see anything reserved for Daisy patrons. But I figured most of the other businesses were not open in the evening. Anyway we didn't get a ticket or towed off the lot.

Top Restaurant is…read moretucked into a small, rundown shopping center on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena and from the outside you'd never guess what's waiting inside. This is my third visit and every single time it delivers. This is an Indonesian/Hawaiian restaurant -- and a seriously impressive one. The menu spans both worlds, and no matter which direction you go, you're in for something special. Take out only, no tables, but trust me -- you won't care. The 4 Piece Indonesian Fried Chicken with rice is an absolute must. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The crust is insanely crispy, the seasoning is perfect, and the Indonesian dipping sauce ties it all together in a way that's completely unique. This alone is worth the drive. The Hawaiian plates are equally impressive. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the beef and chicken were perfectly marinated -- sweet, savory, and deeply flavorful. Everything comes with rice and a creamy mac salad, and the Hawaiian Sun drinks (Mango Orange and Strawberry Lilikoi) are the perfect companion to wash it all down. Plates run between $16-$20 but the portions are generous and the quality is exceptional -- you absolutely get your money's worth. The owner and cook are extraordinarily welcoming, and everything comes out hot and fresh every single time. Top Restaurant is a hidden gem of the highest order. If you're in Pasadena, make the trip.

From the photos and reviews, the place…read morelooked pretty run-down, so I figured it might just be one of those local hidden-gem type spots. Even after arriving, I almost changed my mind about ordering because the plaza itself looked very old and rough. I brought my girlfriend with me, and she was actually the one who said that since we were already there, we might as well try it. The restaurant is basically takeout only, and the inside is very simple and worn down. That said, the person taking our order was extremely friendly, which made the experience much better right away. After checking Yelp, I decided to order the Indonesian fried rice, BBQ chicken, and fried chicken. The fried rice was easily the highlight. I got it spicy, and it had a nice kick that made it feel more special. I'm not sure if this is part of the Indonesian style, but there were little bits of noodles mixed into the fried rice, which made it unique and really tasty. It also had a generous amount of meat inside, and the portion was huge. It was probably one of the best fried rice dishes I've had recently. The BBQ chicken was solid too. It had that tasty Hawaiian-style plate lunch feel, came with mac salad, and was seasoned well. The fried chicken was a little mixed for me. The crispy outside was good, but the chicken itself had a slight off taste, like it didn't feel as fresh as I hoped. Not terrible, but definitely not my favorite item. Overall, Top Restaurant surprised me in a good way. The place itself is very no-frills, but the fried rice alone makes it worth coming back. I'd definitely return for that.
