This place usually has very fresh fish. The food is simple, but good. This is not a place to come if you want American-style rolls. It is more traditional. My mom really enjoys coming here out of all the other Pasadena sushi restaurants. The only negative is the price. It is pretty expensive compared to the other sushi bars in Pasadena. Yum! We have been to Sushi Enya twice now during quarantine, and have absolutely loved it. All seating is outside on the sidewalk, which works for the time being, and the wait on the weekends was 20-30 minutes for two people. For starters, their miso soup is OUTSTANDING. . We've ordered a few different rolls - the yuzu roll and tiger crunch are our favorites. Rolls are sliced extraordinarily thin, and this seems to allow for the maximum flavor and texture experience. Their sushi is also of phenomenal quality, with generous cuts and perfectly seasoned toppings and sauces to enhance each piece of fish. Soft and buttery fish, along with crisp and fresh pairings within the rolls make for an A+ meal. Service is generally quite quick, and while this is a little pricier of a sushi spot in Pasadena, it is well worth the money for a special occasion. read more

Full disclosure: I usually do not write reviews unless I'm super happy or super upset about the business. Unfortunately, this review is in part because of the latter. I understand sushi could be quite expensive and I am 100% okay with paying good money for good sushi. However, I just spent $200 worth on the super premium chirashi bowl ($60 x 2 orders), 2 orders of sweet shrimp, 2 orders of scallop, and 1 order of bluefin tuna sashimi ($21). I dunno if it's because it's the take out menu or if business is slow, but you can judge from the photos yourself to see if this looks fresh... is this even what bluefin supposed to look like? I was soooooo disappointed! It looks and tasted more like regular tuna to me. Even the rice was whack! The premium super charashi bowl was supposed to have all different kinds of fish and I specifically asked if uni would be in it and the person on the phone said yes. Well, i couldn't find it in my bowl. Anyway. I was so excited to try this place out but it turned out to be a dud. I think supermarket sushi would have been better quality. Ugh. I'm so upset. This was the best sushi I've had in awhile! During COVID, they have 8 outdoor tables(they need more). We waited about an hour for a table on a Saturday night. We had the Yuzu roll. All their rolls are super long. And I love that they're sliced thinly. I have a narrow bite and am always trying to cut sushi in half with my chopsticks(not alway successfully). No need for that here. We also got the albacore sashimi with crunchy onions and another albacore dish plus Eel sashimi. Eel is always good. The garlic edamame was THE BEST I've ever had! I drank the garlic liquid left in the bowl. Shh! Don't judge! :-) We also split the Green tea mochi ice cream. Yum but too small. The dining experience was all good. Thanks Sushi Enya. Took me a while, after letting the rice settled. I decided it was time. I've been to a few Omaskae spot around L.A. for the price point and higher end of sushi, I say this place is up there with Zo. I still prefer Onedero or Nozawa. Every piece of fish and dish was tasty, but I was pretty even keel with throughout the whole dinner. Some of the dishes was over the top with a hand roll made of scallop/toro/Uni/caviar. Just a bit of over indulgence in my opinion. You'll finish with their tamago made with dry shrimp. The dry shrimp is a hint in flavor not overpowering at all. Lot of the dishes was prepared seared, if you enjoy seared fish this is definitely the spot. I say it's like Zo just bc of the preparation of the fish highlight the fish, but garnished with some western ingredients such as truffle salt etc. I prefer Onedero/Nozawa just bc of their unique preparation of the fish from smoking the kelp to fermenting a fish a certain way. Service/beverage was good. Staff was friendly. Our chef was friendly and happy to explain the fish and dishes. Some variety of Japanese craft beer along with asahi draft. Plenty of sake offerings. Did the Dassai 50 crisp and smooth paired quite well with the meal. If you're a omasake enthusiast, this is a place you have to try in the L.A. area. If you opt for just a regular dinner they do have a regular menu as well. Reservations takes about a month out for either location, but at earlier Service during the week. Where do I begin with this restaurant! The staff & chefs are like family to us, we mandatorily dine here every week at least once. I've recommended this place to a handful of friends and family, and they all love Sushi Enya, as much as my boyfriend and I do. The fish is high-quality and seasonal. The chefs have executed the perfect balance of the fish with toppings on the menu. The seasoning/sauces collectively collaborate with the fish and melt in your mouth. The rolls are amazing. Love how they cut the pieces into small sizes, so it's not like I'm hovering a big piece of sushi down my throat. The ingredients and chosen fish are well executed. The staff, is amazing, they're like family to us! They know our order as we get the usual, yellowtail sashimi, tuna cut roll, chef #1. We love to try out new things, we've been coming here for 2 years, and I could say I have tried almost everything on the menu, aside from some of the fishes I personally do not like and they are all amazing. This is not a "boujee" restaurant to go and take pictures at and dress up, but I could tell you their quality is 5 stars, the chefs know what they're doing, the food presentation and taste is remarkable. I've been to the other location in Little Tokyo before, and I'll say that the sushi there is better than here. The ambiance here is better as it's a pretty new establishment with sleek wood designs. And it's much more spacious. Service was great. The staff members were very quick and constantly checked up on us taking away plates and taking orders. Orders came out very quick as well. The sushi is good and very fresh. But one factor that drops the rating for me is the price and portion. As a $$ restaurant, it is quite overpriced for the size that you get. I ordered the sashimi plate that costs around $35 and out came 12 small pieces of fish. Sushi rolls were cut so thin that it might look a lot, but in reality, it is actually not much at all. Plus, there aren't many selections on the menu nor is there much creativity to their rolls. The rolls are very ordinary and typical. I suggest sticking to Little Tokyo for sushi. Had two wonderful meals and experiences at Sushi Enya. Their entire kitchen greets you when you arrive, which is fun! No reservations, but fast and helpful service, and the quality is always superb. Salmon belly, Toro are always on point. Bluefin tuna handroll also very good and a generous helping of fish. All their rolls are very fresh and are precisely cut and lined on a long plate, making for very pretty photos :) Also nearly all of them include avocado which is basically my dream come true. Came here with my girlfriend and made a reservation for the omakase. We got seated quickly and sat at the sushi bar. Our sushi chef was attentive and funny. Cracked some jokes here and there and drank with us. The sushi quality here is one of the best in SoCal. We've also had ootoro omakase but personally sushi Enya takes it. Located right in the heart of downtown Pasadena. Every omakase plate that came out was explained to us by the chef and everything was delicious. $250 a person for omakase was def worth it. Next time I would def try the regular menu and compare but I'm sure you don't need to spend that much to enjoy fresh sushi/sashimi here. I had an EXTREMELY poor experience at the beginning, the hostess was a grade A beast when it came to her fiery attitude and lack of ability to admit she skipped me and my partner when calling the waitlist. I tried to look at the paper and finger point my name out and she slapped my finger with the board and didn't apologize nor even cared. She just brushed me off and said I'll be next. Fine, I am reasonable enough to know that this is only one part of the restaurant and not the entire experience, luckily my partner was there calm me nerves and insist I experience the sushi. But on the other hand, great service, waiters and waitresses were really nice, food was delicious but quality is ok and the drinks were ok as well. The energy didn't seem overcompensating because I was clear I was upset and made it clear to the entire restaurant when the hostess was rude to me. This restaurant fails to meet customer expectations in terms of service quality, response time or overall customer experience. We came in on a Monday night a little before 9:00 pm and from the moment we sat down, we felt rushed. Our server (Asian lady with short reddish hair) didn't believe in service with a smile and every request we made (water, extra ginger, chili oil.) felt like an inconvenience to her. While taking our first order at 9:15 pm, she made it clear last call (for food and beverages) is at 9:30 pm. That's fine except our food arrived after 9:30 and our server didn't come back to check on us the rest of the night so at that point even though we liked the food, we couldn't order more. Interestingly, sushi rolls were still being made for other customers after last call. Thank goodness another server asked us if we wanted at least another bottle of sake around 9:40 pm and we said "yes please". In the middle of us trying to enjoy our dinner, the staff were busy taking the soy sauce bottles as well as the empty and NON empty plates from our table. In short, the food was great but unfortunately the "hurry up and finish"atmosphere took away so much from our dining experience that it didn't allow us to relax or enjoy our meal. I used to love sushi Enya and would recommend EVERYONE coming to LA to go there. Unfortunately last two times experience has been not even average. Food quality has gone down, especially and specifically nigiri, albacore nigiri. On top of that, now they water down their house hot sake, and try to push a different hot sake on you that is $40. Last time the sake was so watered down there seemed to be more hot water in it than hot sake, and we had to send it back. No wonder this place used to be bustling, and you had to get on a huge waitlist: now you can waltz in at 8:30 on a Saturday and half the place is empty. Our server, Chris, was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The sushi chef in charge of the omakase that night, Yoshi, was very skilled and watching him craft each course added great value to the experience. We left with a complimentary bottle of sake that was the perfect cherry on top of an already great experience. I would HIGHLY recommend you to think twice before coming to eat and spend your hard earn money here for an Omakase. Extremely disappoint with the quality and taste of every single dish start to finish. The scallops were cut extremely thick The sushi was over seared with the blow torch taking away the fresh clean natural taste. All the sushi tasted like charred burnt fish. The last plate of a raw meat on ride was disgusting and had to spit it out into the napkin. After kimagure's closing my choice of sushi bars got little depressed and most of sushi bars quality and value didn't make sense.. so if Familly wants sushi we travel to Pasadena and end up here, the fish is tasty and fresh and marinated very professional,you can get even some cut rolls done with very little rice and good amount of fish on it. Great sushi joint! Fish were fresh and service was great. They yell "Irashai! Irashaimase!!" very loudly...I can sense that they are very enthusiastic about their job and they're happy to see you come in. It's fun at first, but when you hear it two dozen times during your dinner and you have to stop your conversation because you can't hear yourself speak...it can be annoying. LOL. They need to also fix the order in which they bring out the dishes. Certain sushi should come out before others but the order was messed up. Also the ama ebi should come out first then all the heads should come out together as they are cooked per order, but they came out in mixed up order and not together...other than that, all sushi were delicious and otoro was divine which's a plus! read more
