First time here. Service was great staff is wonderful. However the cost was simply too much! 155 dollars for 2 not including tip and we were not impressed with food. I would not return for both reasons we didn't want to wait one hour for sugar fish down the street so we came here but it was definitely not worth the money. Fried rice appetizer with tuna piled on top. Not good. Hand rolls were fair. Drinks were good kudos to bartender. Rolls were a 5/10 on a flavor scale. Something is a miss here. I always drive by this place on the way to Wanderlust and finally got to try this place since it looked so fancy! First off, the store itself looks amazing, with a lot more seats than you would imagine. I came here at around 7 and had to wait about 30-40 minutes which was reasonable given how busy the place was. The staff is also super nice and amazing and try to make your stay as hospitable as possible. Me and my partner ended up ordering the Salmon Sashimi (6 pieces), Yuzu Roll, and Chef #2 Roll. The Salmon Sashimi: This one I would give a 9/10. This fish was super fresh and went down extremely smoothly. You could tell they chose a good cut of fish for this and handled it well. The only part that made me slightly hesitant about giving it a 10 was the sauce, although a good pairing on itself, wasn't my absolute favorite and I felt took away from the fish just a bit more than I would want. But that is more of a personal preference than anything The Yuzu Roll: This one my partner wanted and would give 8-9/10. The fish is once again of good quality and the toppings and fish come together to properly enhance the dish. I personally am someone who likes slightly more savory flavors so although the fish, especially the spicy tuna, was amazing, I wanted something a bit more as it was a bit more light for me. However, objectively it was still a great roll and would recommend it to someone who likes a lighter roll. Finally the Chef #2 Roll: This is the one I wanted and would give it a 9/10. This along with the Yuzu roll just to mention were both cut into really long lengths. Although the sushi pieces individually were quite skinny, it was still amazing to see the extreme lengths of dishes they would bring out carrying the entire roll, making the price tag for both these rolls feel more worth. The eel on top was so flavorful and the spicy tuna again for this roll was just spot on. I normally always feel this clumpiness and fishiness in spicy tuna at many other sushi places but here, it was surprisingly quite smooth and flavorful and would honestly want to try more rolls with just their spicy tuna. Once again, this was objectively an amazingly created roll but was just something that preferentially I would want with a bit more punch. Overall, this was still a nice experience and would recommend this place for those who love to have authentic and great cuts of quality fish. read more

Incredible service and food on Valentine's Day!! To celebrate the special occasion, we decided to try Sushi Enya in Pasadena. The number 1 thing we were concern about was the long wait. However, the host seated us right away with an open table! We were definitely lucky! We ordered salmon belly, regular salmon, yellowtail belly, eel, yuzu roll and crunch roll. Sushi Enya is a casual yet high quality Japanese restaurant. The restaurant is minimally decorated. A few propane-powered outdoor heaters was clustered on the side. The open kitchen, well, is a working kitchen. I made my reservation online and they only had "Experience" which was Omakase, charging $200 per person. I could call or walk-in for non-Omakase. I sat at the Sushi Bar and was served by a dedicated Sushi chef for the entire dinner. He was very professional, serious, and explained every dish. Other waitstaffs were also very attentive. Finally tried this place out and am glad to say it lived up to the hype! For 2 people we got: - Lemon Roll - W Dragon Roll - 10 piece nigiri This place has high quality authentic sushi and is modern. It's actually pretty big. There are more seats hidden in the back of the restaurant. I came here on a weekday for dinner and there was no wait. The only problem I can foresee at this location is the weekend lines. Overall, I highly recommend getting the W Dragon Roll over the Lemon Roll if you only want 1 roll. How have I never written a review yet for Sushi Enya? It is absolutely the best sushi I've ever had in California, and I've tried MANY. I love this location in particular because there's abundant parking, it's clean, the service is always nice, the food always fresh and perfect every time, and it's where my hometown used to be. The rolls are a whopping 16 pieces! They are thin, but they are perfectly bite sized, filling, and so DELICIOUS. We love the Lemon Roll, the Chef #1 & 2, and the Yuzu especially. The nigiri is SO GOOD. We usually always get salmon, Toro, eel, and octopus. I am not a fan of white fish myself, but I'm sure they are just as delicious. Chef Kimiyasu Enya continues to dazzle us with every visit. If you are looking for the ultimate sushi experience, skip the rolls and reserve the full course omakase, which is only offered at this location. Currently, only the full course omakase is available for reservations via Resy. If you're lucky enough, you may have Chef Enya running the entire course himself. Whether it be a chutoro with a gentle brush of shoyu or ika topped with Santa Barbara uni, ikura, caviar and edible gold leak flakes, your senses will be hypnotized the entire 2 hours. Enya easily has the sushi rice down to a T, with it being served at approximately room temperature at a comfortable texture between sticky and dry. With every piece you devour, the fish and rice are homogenized into a remarkable flavor, I would imagine, favorable to heaven's taste. I have to start with the service; we had an incredible server named Paul this evening, who was 100% interested in making sure we had a great experience. Young dude, but hospitable in a way that not only suited him, but made you absolutely believe he was there to make sure your experience was outstanding. We did the basic omakase (Trust Me) - there were very little differences between that and the enhanced one (Nozawa). But for 3 men, the Trust Me was not only filling, it was appropriately filling. We did add 2 orders of Ikura - and they were also excellent. The atmosphere was really pretty chill - small place, but felt like a popular, busy restaurant. Mostly a young'ish staff - but very attentive. I had one peeve - they charged a 16% service charge. I'm sure they have their reasons, and I hope that it works well for the staff. But, I was absolutely expecting to tip 25% ... I didn't even realize the tip was baked in until I had no line for additional tip, and Paul explained that it was part of the culture of the place. I kind of get it, and I absolutely honor the management decision - but as a life long restaurateur, I absolutely felt bummed that I could give the service more reward. read more

Our rolls were great. We order w dragon which was awesome. Our AC Milan was nothing like people posted on IG/ Yelp. It was with zero sauce and 6 pieces. I totally understand that it's just the illusion with thinner slices. But it was an unfortunate roll that wasn't that great and I probably wouldn't recommend. I read the menu and I think it was missing an ingredient and all the sauces. It came to the table dry. Fortunately I had soy but I do think it was supposed to have ell sauce. Regardless food is good, but I ended on that roll and wish I didn't. I'll try again another time :) read more

Thumbs up if you love sushi, this is one of the best I've tried! The food presentation was photogenic, especially the rolls; and importantly the fresh fish was amazing! In fact I limited my use to only drops of soy sauce and wasabi mix to enjoy the tender and mild flavors of the fresh sushi, wow!! Overall, I'd rate this a 4.5+, and note the meal budget seemed above average, but then again sushi restaurants in my experience have always been higher priced pp - so glad it was a special treat to us, thank you! The service was professional, friendly and knowledgeable about all their menu items. We came on a Saturday night and had a short wait (15 min) for table at 7:30p, but once seated, well worth it. Tonight we ordered Miso soup which was perfectly flavored broth, but perhaps could've had more tofu cubes in my bowl, as I only got about 3 small bites. But the highlight for me were the Rainbow and 911 rolls, both FANTASTIC! Both enough to share and flavor profiles different, yet nice combo. After months of barely seeing my fiancé to study for the bar exam, I was excited to treat her to Sushi Enya's omakase experience for our anniversary. We waited 30 minutes before finally receiving our first course: a variation of livers and hearts of fish which were just not our cup of tea. The second course was some bowl of sea water which they called soup. The third course was yet another dish with fish liver. It was about an hour into the meal when we'd finally had enough and politely requested to be excused from the experience, to which the manager explained that we would have to pay for the three courses which were already served to us. We reluctantly agreed - only to find out that the restaurant charged us enough for the three courses to cover the entire price omakase experience, even claiming the soup's regular rate outside the experience is $50/bowl! We left having spent the money of the entire dinner, disgusted, and still hungry. I'll never be back. We're thankful KAVIAR was up the street where we gladly spent twice as much to enjoy our anniversary. read more

Sushi bar in the middle of the restaurant I had the most basic Chirashi with just the regular fish meaning tuna, red snapper, salmon, yellow tail, scallop and eggs and honestly it's fresh and delicious. To me, if I can enjoy a bowl of Chirashi with no fancy stuff like uni, toro or sweet shrimp then it must mean that the fishes are fresh and tasty enough for me! You know what I mean right? I do think the Chirashi it's a bit more expensive than most standard Japanese restaurant, but it's right on the busy Street on old town so everything cost a bit more, so you could get a better deal else where. I must say, for being in a box that traveled 30 minutes to our home, it was pretty darn good sushi. All the fish was fresh as if you are eating it fresh off the sushi chef. My family wanted to eat somewhere nice that tasted good so we went to Enya. This place is known for its expensive price and it's quality so I was hoping for a great time which I had. As I walked in I saw tables 90% full and in the kitchen 8 chefs next to each other making sushi in front of the counters. The environment made me feel like I was eating sushi in Japan. The good thing about this restaurant is the clean restroom they have. The server was nice and very welcoming. The sushi was delicious and it was very different from the ones in the stores. It had a very soft and smooth texture. I also think the water was good maybe because it was cold but it tasted very clean. The bad experience I had was wasabi not being served at any point and we had to ask for one. I also had a problem with the waiting of the food. After the first order I went for the second one for more sushi but the food didn't come after 15 minutes or so. Later I asked where's the food we ordered and apparently they were to busy and the food was ready but just didn't get to the table which was dumb. Overall the food and everything is good and I would give a 5 star but the long waiting is just not right. It ruined the rhythm of the food. I have to go for a 4 star honestly. Don't get me wrong though the restaurant is a very good place it's just that sometimes busy restaurant can't give there full service to the costumer but that for me as a costumer is a problem. Hard to believe there is any sushi better in Pasadena. Damn good and the crowds that flock here are proof. If you're into Cali Sushi rolls and Westernized sushi this probably not your place. If you want excellent sushi done very well this is where you need to go. With Sushi i tend to be very picky. Can't say the back seating area is my favorite but the service is always on point and the food is so good you really can't complain. Came here for dine-in for a celebration dinner. The service was quick and very friendly, with the sushi chefs greeting you upon walking into the door. The rolls are plated very beautifully in a long plate, though they are cut very thinly so the plates look deceptively large. The rolls cost about $20 per roll, and I thought they all tasted decent. The snow crab California roll was a nice elevation of the usual CA roll in sushi restaurants, tasting similar in flavor but with a much creamier texture. The Chef #1 roll was a nice flavor, a mixture of sweetness and Cajun spices on tuna. Crunchy Dragon is nice if you like sweet tempura rolls; it had a nice tempura batter on the outside and it wasn't too crunchy. We also ordered the sashimi plate for about $40. The cuts were fresh; I really enjoyed the salmon belly but I thought the other cuts could have been better for the price. read more

If you sit at the sushi bar and spend the serious cash required for Omakase, it's really 5 stars. But the price is really quite high for the entire experience. If you sit at a table and do a more affordable roll and sashimi plate heavy version, it's very good and a better value. You can safely have both experiences here and enjoy both. If you want to spend the money, go for the omakase. You will not be disappointed with the flavor, presentation or dinner and a show that Enya himself brings. The value is there, I suppose, but I don't know how often dropping a few hundred bucks in Wagyu and truffle is realistic. Also, it's not the same if you have one of the other sushi chefs. Good yes, but not the same. The albacore sashimi with the fried onions was really good and was a great value, I think. I'm surprised I've never reviewed this place. We've been here at least 6 or 7 times. I'm a bit fan of all things sushi and Enya really brings his A game to the Pasadena (really greater LA area) sushi scene. He is second to Ike-San and Kimagure, mainly because his prices are so much higher for largely the same deliciousness. Because of this, I will say it's kind of a 4.5 star establishment and I'll round down for the value for the money. Yellow tail sashimi $18.80: quality fish, perfectly cut and prepared with right amount of yuzu sauce, acidity from lime and heat from fresh jalapenos. Ac Mian $20.80, baked baby lobster, tuna, avocado and cajun powder. It is also tasty with a little kick from cajun powder. Nodoguro $16.80: not my favorite. White seabass is a bit fishy for sashimi. We visited Sushi Enya for the first time last night as a recommendation from a local friend. I did my research and learned they are connected to the Sushi Enya in Little Tokyo! We were quickly greeted by the staff upon walking in and being seated at the sushi bar. We ordered "Omakase" style. Wow! Was that a great decision. I'd however advise people to know what the cost will be first. We had 14 different very unique pieces of sushi all created and served by head Chef Tomoki Honbe. He is extremely talented and also very humble and friendly as he explained each one of his offerings to us. I've been to other places sitting at a sushi bar where this wasn't the case. There's nothing worst than a rude, low talent Sushi Chef with no personality. Each piece of sushi we received was more delicious and beautiful than the previous. Every sushi enthusiast in the US has different criteria of what like when going to a sushi bar. Of course everyone wants freshness. Many others also look for quality. And of course many want service, friendly staff, ambiance, cleanliness, talented chefs, offerings, location, and convenience. Sushi Enya had all of this. I know many people that only look for cheap A.Y.C.E (All You Can Eat) with marginal quality and base their opinions and yelp ratings of a sushi bar based on quantity over quality. Well, this isn't a place for them. The atmosphere is very nice with a good energy. Facilities are clean and well kept. Staff is polite and well informed. Sushi was extremely fresh and made with excellence. Sushi chef was very talented and friendly. There is a paid parking lot to the west of the restaurant for convenience. Restaurant is easy to find.
