When I'm on Colorado Blvd, usually it's pretty hectic, and if I get the chance to unwind from all the anxiety of trying to find parking, I always try to find the chance to come here, get something simple, but fresh before I tackle on some heavier food later on. We came by here on Saturday evening without a reservation. It's located in Old Pas, so it's nice spot for dinner after shopping. And there's a lot of great dessert places nearby for a sweet treat after. They only had seating outside when we came, so I recommend making a reservation if you want to sit inside. Because were were outside, I think our service was slower. It was harder to get our waitress's attention. We split the the Chef #1 and Chef #2 rolls. I really recommend these rolls if you're looking for a delicious assortment. The spicy tuna and eel sushi were notably good, and the shrimp tempura provided a flavorful crunch. Some things I definitely want to check out next time: Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Toro Handroll, and the assorted Sashimi. This place is on the pricier end, so keep that in mind. read more

Ok so we came here for the premium omakase, which I think you're paying more for the experience rather than the meal. The sushi was definitely good, but nothing completely out of this world to warrant the amount of money we dished out. Omakase is $300 per person for the premium, then we got a bottle of sake for $80. We also had to pay extra for the nice wasabi. All in all after tip this meal was over $900. I've been to Nobu, Kaviar, Matsuhisa, etc etc and this was way more pricy. I'm glad we came here bc I've been wanting to try for a while, but definitely my last time doing the omakase. Next time I'll pick my own food (btw the Abalone was chewy and nasty). Service and attention was incredible, definitely a plus. I also get that it's part of the experience to yell and scream when someone enters, but jesus they were soooooo loud. There are 2 options: premium and regular. The premium is $250 and regular is $180. My husband got the premium and I got regular. He definitely had some great additions to his meal. Also the premium option is exclusive to Pasadena. All the pieces of the course was yummy but my fave had to be the otoro (fatty tuna). It was so rich and delicious. The first few pieces were nice and light then the flavors just build and get more richer as the course went on and one of the last pieces was also so so good. I forgot the name but its the only one that comes wrapped in sushi. All the pieces came with rice that held the flavor it needed so no soy sauce needed to dip! We were there for a little over 2 hours. We parked at the covered lot on raymond ($15 on a weekend). I highly recommend this place if you are looking to try omakase. The Yuzu Roll ($21.80) and Chef #1 ($21.80) both have happy faces on the menu, and it makes sense because they are both so good; I would definitely get these if it's your first time coming. The shrimp tempura remains crispy, but the sauces are really what makes the dish stand out. - Tiger Crunch ($21.80) was also quite good with a nice spice from the tuna. I did notice that the prices increased about $2/dish within just the last year. SERVICE/AMBIANCE: I like how this restaurant has a large menu with a range of prices; they also offer omakase. It's not a super large restaurant, so there usually is a line especially around dinner time. I would try to make a reservation if you are going on a Friday or weekend, I have waited about 40 minutes at longest on a Friday. Our group of 6 came here after our dinela rsvp got canceled since the restaurant was having a power outage. Sugarfish was over 2 hour wait down the street. The wait was only about 20min for a 6pm on a Saturday night. This may have been a sign already. We got seated at the large table directly infront of the door. The interior has that super modern all wooden decor with open kitchen concept. There's another large dining area in the back. The menu is only available via the QR code on the table and changes often depending on whats available! So it didn't match what's on there website or whats on yelp now! The menu is divided into either omakase set, sushi, and rolls. Note the price ranges are also in the $$ range, $10-250 range The staff were super friendly but they seem to be slightly understaffed as we had to keep waving down a waiter to even order or get refills. They do seem to have waiter assigned per section with the hostess running as backup. We ordered a wide variety from every section of the menu. Starting with 700ml bottle of Heaven Sake. Yep its served in a ice bucket and they'll even pour for you with a towel wrapped. FANCY! For apps we started with shishito peppers: pretty standard fried shishito peppers with abit of salt. Very mild heat if you eat the seeds. We got 2 sashimi mix plates: it was a mix of chef's choice sashimi with 12 pieces each. So 2 of each type. They sashimi was sliced pretty thin, about 1/2cm but they were very fresh. We also had a few uni and fresh eel sushi ala carte that were pretty standard. Fresh and tasty. Real Crab Hand Rolls: Yes its real crab in these handrolls, but its more like a baked crab with mayo sauce inside not straight crab. This was very flavor and tasty but yeah if you're not a fan of mayo this may not be your thing. We also got 4 different rolls. Again they were all pretty thinly cut not like your typical Japanese restaurant roll. I guess they needed to fill the entire plate. Majority of the rolls were crab based. We had the lemon roll, yuzu roll, rainbow roll, cherry blossom roll. They were all more "modern/fusion" style then traditional. Ex. Cherry blossom is a riceless roll made from crab meat wrapped with salmon, yellowtail, tuna, spicy tuna, smelt egg, avocado, with a garlic sauce, chili oil topped. Yes they were flavorful and fresh but memorable not so sure especially for the price point. Overall dining experience was just OK i think the group would agree. For the total bill of slightly over $500 before tip not sure if it was worth price or worth returning. The quality of food was just OK, service was good besides having to literally wave down servers. We came here for omakase on a Wednesday in mid April 2022. There's 90-min free parking in the public structures. Didn't expect too much but had a great time. The food was excellent. The omakase was about $180 each person for the smaller one. Because there were so many courses anyway, I didn't think we'd need the extra courses to get full. We were right, we were so bloated by the last couple of courses. Every dish that was brought out came pre-seasoned so you don't have to dip anything in ponzu or soy sauce. You're actually encouraged not to. The chef used a mix of lime juice, you, and other flavors of the sort to bring each dish to life. I would highly recommend this place if you like prefixe menus like Sugarfish. This place will not disappoint. Last night, my fiancé and I attempted to try this place out for the second time. The first time was okay, the service wasn't anything to brag about. My fiancé mentioned he'd like to check it out again. We walked in, one of the male servers came over and asked us where we would like to sit we chose the two seats right in front of the window. We were seated for about 10-15 and still had not been addressed. My fiancé walks over to grab the attention of a female server who had taken orders for two other groups that came in after us. As he proceeds to ask her when will we be serviced, she goes to say "you guys walked away to use the restroom". Came here for my birthday. Had the omakase which was 18 different items. The sushi chef was really nice, made jokes, and told us which his favorite fishes were. He even asked if there was too much rice, which there wasnt. It was the perfect amount. I usually dislike slimey seafood like squid but the squid here was pretty amazing. The truffle was not overwhelming when we ate it. My favorite would be the otoro and the rosy seabass. For dessert, they even added a mochi ice cream and sang. Which made me embarrassed because I was just expecting the matcha Panna cotta. The chef even told us that the matcha pannacotta would be bitter. And he was right. With the whipped cream it tasted very good for the first few bites until I ate the mochi ice cream and the matcha became super bitter after. We came here on a busy weekend night around 830pm and had to wait for our table. We were seated outside on the sidewalk tables. Service was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable. The menu is big and varied. So many interesting choices to be had here. We were looking for a light meal so we only got a few sashimi/sushi pieces, but they were all excellent. A lot more spacious than the Little Tokyo location, and that's already a plus! The service was great, our server shared with us a "secret" menu of rolls and we decided to give it a try! I'm glad I tried it because it was a delicious mix of crabs and shrimp, but it would've been best as our only roll. We over ordered and ended up taking food back home; luckily that roll was only cooked ingredients rather than your usual raw fish. The special hand roll with scallop, uni, and truffle was worth trying for the $26. I don't think I could eat more than one, and it was a great blend of flavors. For some, uni can make or break the taste of everything because of how "fishy" it tastes. I love uni, and I prefer the Hokkaido uni because it's a lot more mild than the Santa Barbara ones. The truffle helps to mask or neutralize the over-fishy taste, but it lingers a lot longer than any of the other sushi taste. A bit of a treat to come here. For the lemon roll, I wasn't too impressed by it... I can live without it.
