However, after a couple months break I had a really disappointing experience at my favorite sushi spot. First off - the food quality just isn't the same. My sashimi was cut sloppy and not nearly as wonderful as the normal sushi enya standard of fish quality. Some of the nigiri sushi on the specials menu was good, but the rest - a let down. The crispy rice with yellowtail as an appetizer was simply awful, soggy, stale, drenched in oil. Tea was super watery, it's basically just hot water. It felt like there was no inspiration behind the food at all. Service was ok-ish. Had to ask for certain items over and over, but whatever. The food at this restaurant is consistently amazing, and as regulars, we truly enjoy it every time. However, the host's behavior makes dining here increasingly frustrating. The first thing walking into the restaurant you are greeted by a extremely miserable man. Despite being a walk-in-only establishment, we're frequently told there are no tables available--even when multiple seats are visibly open. He claims they're "reserved," which contradicts their walk-in policy. So confusing... Who is the manager, owner here ? Lol On top of that, the bar has confusing and inconsistent rules about what can be ordered, we were mentioned by him that we cannot order "sushi rolls" at the bar table just "hand-rolls and sashimi" making the experience even more unwelcoming. We initially tried the omakase few years prior to the pandemic which was delicious. Living in LA and being a sushi lover, I wouldn't say this omakase was the most memorable but quality was good. Fast forward to 2020, we came here for our 2nd outdoor covid19 dining since covid lockdown and I felt so satisfied. It really made my night! The quality was great and everything came out within minutes of ordering! There was a slight wait to get a table but we were able to divert our attention at a nearby shop and didn't feel like we waited too long. FYI they are not taking reservations and dining outside the restaurant. Only outdoor dining is available aside from take out. We tried to order omakase again but we were told they can't offer it when they are busy. The slightly annoying part about sitting out of the street is the constant car sounds and honking. Honestly this is the perfect sushi spot. Such high quality fresh fish and a very large selection to choose from. Every time I come I always try something new and it absolutely blows my mind how good it is. My go to is the yellowtail belly and salmon belly. They are absolutely amazing and so buttery. The real crab hand rolls are great as well. Normally I don't get rolls but they've even perfected that as well. Chefs and servers are great and super hospitable. I usually end up spending around 150 for my gf and I. 110% worth every penny it's always such a memorable meal. read more

It helped that this was my only meal of the day, as the cut rolls were a lot more than I was expecting. Which is great given the price. This was a really lovely experience. The staff are charming and so very polite. Like, I smiled every time the entire room greeted a new guest. I ordered a salad and a roll and really enjoyed both. You can taste the freshness of the their produce and fish. My friend and I went to get the omakase and overall great experience. There are two options, The Omakase ($180) and The Full Omakase ($250), we got the Full Omakase. There was a total of 22 courses (including dessert). The fish were super fresh, and all the sushi's were phenomenal. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the grilled cod plate, Ikura with fish mousse? Those two dishes were quite salty and can get a little greasy. Other than those dishes I would say everything was tasty, the chef paired the sushi with the condiments perfectly. I have been wanting to try Sushi Enya for many years. Today, I finally went. Unfortunately, the dining experience is kind of disappointing. My husband and I ordered total 9 nigiri items. They were chu toro, red snapper, kanpachi, king salmon, black cod, giant clam, sweet shrimp, uni and octopus. The black cod and giant clam were the most nicely surprising ones. The black cod melt in your mouth and the giant clam were very fresh and umami. The total price comes to around $140 which is on higher end. However, I really don't think it worths it. I myself have worked for different Japanese restaurants for many years. I could find the same quality of nigiri with cheaper price. And the customer service here is subpar with charging the food with such high price. I am not saying their customer service is bad, but it should be better with the price they are charging. The Japanese restaurant I am working for charging way cheaper price, but our customer service is way better than Sushi Enya. One of the reasons I feel disappointed. (Maybe because I was sitting outdoor, it made them look like they were not attentive?) If anyone wants to try, I recommend they sit at the sushi bar. Maybe the dinning experience will be better. I love this place so much that I can confidently say it is my go-to sushi place. I am confident in the quality of the sushi. Their service has never let me down either. They are always friendly and ready to assist/accommodate if they could. The ambiance is not too loud yet not too quiet. It is great for small group gathering as well. They are neat and clean when preparing your meals which allow me to place my trust in their hygiene as well. It was an impromptu decision I made that time but I have never regretted it and as I mentioned as well, they were very accommodating whenever they couldz After trying out many omakase places or even just sushi places, they are still number 1. However I was a little disappointed by the portion size of the chirashi bowl for $35, I do expect to be full from the dish, however you are just paying for the freshness of the fish and the presentation. The wagyu was delicious. The dish that was a miss for me was the salmon roll, definitely can pass on it the texture mixture as well as the different flavors on it, made it a little weird to eat. I have to start with the service; we had an incredible server named Paul this evening, who was 100% interested in making sure we had a great experience. Young dude, but hospitable in a way that not only suited him, but made you absolutely believe he was there to make sure your experience was outstanding. We did the basic omakase (Trust Me) - there were very little differences between that and the enhanced one (Nozawa). But for 3 men, the Trust Me was not only filling, it was appropriately filling. We did add 2 orders of Ikura - and they were also excellent. The atmosphere was really pretty chill - small place, but felt like a popular, busy restaurant. Mostly a young'ish staff - but very attentive. I had one peeve - they charged a 16% service charge. I'm sure they have their reasons, and I hope that it works well for the staff. But, I was absolutely expecting to tip 25% ... I didn't even realize the tip was baked in until I had no line for additional tip, and Paul explained that it was part of the culture of the place. I kind of get it, and I absolutely honor the management decision - but as a life long restaurateur, I absolutely felt bummed that I could give the service more reward. read more

Let me tell you a story, folks. My girlfriend brought me here as she heard good things about the place. When we were visiting LA, we decided to give a shot. I live in San Francisco and I have been a lot of Sushi restaurants. I wasn't impressed by the food and the nigiri portions. We had eaten our dinner and it was okay. If the experience would have ended here, it would be okay, wasn't great, but what you can do. Here what happens next, though. Since we had sat outside, they needed one of our IDs and credit cards because of dine & dash. We said fine and provided the ID and credit card. Later on, I paid the dinner and we sat a little bit more and returned back to AirBnB place which is 45-minute away. Later we realized the issue and called back to restaurant and asked them to deliver it. Our argument is as follows: 1) It is their policy, 2) It is unfair to customer to remember their cards being held by them as no restaurant I have been so far is following that policy. They said they can't deliver it, we have to pick it up. We don't want to do that for your mistake as it is 1.5h drive + gas. They accepted that that was their mistake and they told us they will call back, and they never did. We called them multiple times, told the issue again and again. They just didn't care to call us back. They said they could send the active id and credit card by mail. We said that is not a possibility as it is not a secure thing to do. The specific person in the restaurant (maybe manager of that restaurant?) told us that her supervisor, multiple-restaurants-manager-who-is-oh-so-important-person, will personally call us, and he never did (shocking). Later on, they offered us 20% off if we come and pick it up. Would driving back 90 minutes for 2 people, wasting time and gas and mediocre sushi 20% off make us happy? I can give you 20% for 1.5 hour drive if you wanna drive me around with your own car and gas. :) Just a feedback guys: Genuine apology and really care repairing the mistakes can go a long way. I would rather them to call us (instead of radio silence 3.5 days) and deliver it to us or at least show some genuine remorse, especially from the chain manager. Dude, you are busy, I am busy, and everyone else is busy. Won't go back here again. We got their Salmon Belly which was super soft and fresh, also had their regular Yellowtail and also their Yellowtail Belly which is a must get!! I love yellowtail and having their yellowtail belly was amazing, super melty plus it was coated with yuzu and ponzu. Got their O-Toro which was good as well, had one of our nigiri recommended by Nathan and it was the highlight of our night. INCREDIBLY melty, fatty and just sent me to the roof. Another recommendation was their Miso Sea Bass which is going to be a new item on the menu. LOVED this, was so excited to try that we forgot midway into eating it to get a photo. Loved the little char it had and the miso sauce that came with it?? FIRE!! Was still a bit hungry after the nigiris so we ordered the Yuzu Roll, which comes with yellowtail, spicy tuna, tempura and avocado. Sushi Enya is a casual yet high quality Japanese restaurant. The restaurant is minimally decorated. A few propane-powered outdoor heaters was clustered on the side. The open kitchen, well, is a working kitchen. I made my reservation online and they only had "Experience" which was Omakase, charging $200 per person. I could call or walk-in for non-Omakase. I sat at the Sushi Bar and was served by a dedicated Sushi chef for the entire dinner. He was very professional, serious, and explained every dish. Other waitstaffs were also very attentive. I had a blue crab sushi order and a dragon crunch roll. I would love to come back and try the omakase. Introduction: I've heard good things about Enya from two of my friends and hence decide to pay it a visit tonight. I had it all planned out: eat a small lunch so that I will be able to sample more of their menu offerings when I arrive. Upon reading the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted to order: aburi toro, golden eye snapper, rosy seabass, halibut, sweet shrimp, and Japanese Wagyu. Unfortunately. the night did not progress as planned and my experience, or lack of, is as follows: How the night went: I arrived at the establishment at 6:54 pm and the Host states the wait is about 35 minutes; seeing how the restaurant is busy, I find the waiting time to be reasonable. After leaving my number I walked around a bit and came back at 7:30. At 7:30 the Host says the tables are still not ready because the occupying customers are ordering more food. No problem, I'm reasonable: usually I give a restaurant an additional 20-30 minutes to let the seating customers finish their meal or dessert and call the check. I understand often times things at a restaurant can get hectic and some things are beyond the staffs' control. However, at 8:28 pm, after waiting outside for about one and a half hour and I still haven't been seated when the initial waiting time was said to be only 35 minutes, that is when I begin to take issue. To the restaurant's credit, they did call shortly after but by then I was starving and pissed off after standing outside in the cold for one and a half hour straight. At that point it doesn't matter to me if a table has become available: I decided it's no longer worth my while to eat at Enya because the mood and experience overall has been tarnished. Overall: I wanted to give this place a good review because I heard their culinary execution was refined and excellent. But after tonight's grave disappointment, I decided that unfortunately this is one sushi establishment I will not patronize. read more
