We had a low-key anniversary dinner at Sushi Hiro on a Friday night. Sushi Hiro is not to be confused with Sushi Hero on Eastern and St. Rose, which is just up the street. Reservations are recommended, call the restaurant directly to make yours. The place is small and it was a little busy, but we didn't have to wait too long for a table. Once we sat down, we were given some very refreshing hot towels. This was a new thing for me in a sushi restaurant and I really liked that! I looked over the drink menu and wanted a nice glass of wine for myself, where I got a Chardonnay called a Drop of Sunshine from California. Kyle got himself a rice lager beer, which he really enjoyed. We shared an appetizer of fried calamari which was served with either ranch or tartar sauce on the side. Calamari is one of my favorite appetizers to have whenever available and this was a really good dish. For our sushi choices, I had the Rainbow Roll and Kyle had the Wagyu Roll. The Wagyu Roll includes a piece of beef inside the sushi roll, which was also new to us. I considered having two different rolls, but I got lucky only choosing one this time because there were a lot on my plate. The Wagyu Roll took some time to come out after my Rainbow Roll to come out, mostly because of the beef inside of it. The Rainbow Roll was absolutely amazing! I've had a bunch of tasty sushi rolls in my life, but I really liked this one. Kyle said that he really enjoyed his Wagyu Roll and also said that he wants to have this again next time we come back here. We really liked Sushi Hiro. Came here yesterday evening for my anniversary. My boyfriend and I love this place but we have never tried the Omakase here before, so we thought it would be a great time to try it for the occasion! We got the Hiro Omakase and honestly it was so worth it! I was so stuffed by the end of the meal that we ended up taking the Matcha Crepe Cake to go. To begin with, they gave us some special types of wasabi. You can definitely tell the difference compared to other wasabi! It felt very smooth and rich. Then we received the tofu dish and it was so full of flavor. The tofu had such a nice texture. One of my favorite things from the Omakase was thr Blackcod. My goodness. It was cooked perfectly well and was so soft, it melted in our mouths. The otoro and chutoro in the nigiri and sashimi was also so delicious. For the end of the savory course, they end things with the A5 Wagyu where you cook it on top of a stone. We had such a pleasant experience. I loved how attentive the servers were. The rice was subtly seasoned with mirin and salt--balanced and not overpowering. We also had the American Dream roll, which came out in a very generous portion. Stopped on a Sunday to get some lunch to go at Sushi Hiro. I used to frequent this restaurant a while ago, but prices had increased and eventually I went to other restaurants closer to home. Fast forward a few years and I thought I would try them out again. The restaurant is still clean and the staff is still nice. The online prices are not correct and the menu was more expensive. It's actually the most expensive sushi place off strip that I've seen in some time. The portion sizes are normal, and the quality isn't any better than competitors throughout Henderson. 2 piece shrimp tempura appetizer for $12.00. The Tempura Udon is also considerably more expensive than competitors in the area - and it's not any better. Maguro sushi was $12.00 for two pieces. It's their prerogative to set prices where they want. Costs in general have increased for many things - but there are other places with the same quality for much cheaper. read more

Wow wow wow! This is literally a hidden gem. I am so glad I found this place. Amazing service from the moment I walked in and the moment I walked out. I came alone after some shopping and wanted to have dinner before coming home. The hostess offered me a warm, damp towel (called an oshibori). It's meant for cleaning your hands before eating and adds a small touch of traditional Japanese hospitality, helping create a welcoming and refreshing start to the dining experience. I started off with a hot green tea and water with lemon. Seaweed salad was perfectly portioned and refreshing. The freshwater eel was out of this world. Sooo flavorful and absolutely satisfying! I ordered a Spider Roll and it was huuuge! The roll was also very delicious. I was running out of room so I didn't get any other rolls (Supersonic roll would have been my next choice). It's not too busy and you get a full corse with miso soup and salad. There is an up charge if you use a credit card, but the card, so the menu prices are all cash prices. The waiting area only has two chairs, we had a party of 5 so my wife and 3 yr old checked in our party and sat in the waiting area in the air conditioning while the rest waited in the car. After 20 mins of waiting we all went inside thinking it would be only a few minutes more. After 50 minutes of waiting a table finally opened up and we had been there longer than anyone and our name was next on their board. A man walked in, he clearly knew the hostess, Grace, said he had a party of 4 and she took him straight back to the table that just opened up. I asked her what's going on, reminded her we've been waiting for 50 minutes and she just said sorry, we're busy. This place clearly doesn't know how to manage check ins or waits, and clearly doesn't have any problem turning away business.
