I went on a late Saturday night (solo date) before they closed and I was able to be seated. The staff is very kind & friendly. Online/phone orders are typically 60-90 minutes. I recently visited in person and I noticed that they had a new appetizer and drink menu. I ordered one of their cocktails and the drinks never came out. After 30 min wait, the appetizer came out with the food and still no cocktail. This has been mine and my partner's go-to sushi place for several years now. We love the portion sizes and the servers arr always wonderful. However a couple times this year I've ordered one of their smaller simple rolls and had it served sliced in huge 1.5 inch-thick pieces. Other times I've had it sliced in thinner, much more reasonable sizes. The most glaring thing, however, is that I ordered takeout recently and found fish bones in two separate pieces of Alaska roll :( Not sure if there's a new sushi chef or if it's always been inconsistent and we've just been lucky, but I feel like properly removing bones from sushi is the bare minimum :( read more

One of my go to sushi spots! My boyfriend and I have been going here for the past year and it never misses. Our go to rolls are, cherry blossom, lambada, and inferno. It's so delicious and very affordable for only three rolls our total was $38! The rolls are bigger than other places, i usually have to take two bites for one piece but i don't mind. I have heard some pretty awesome things about this place and it's been on my radar for places to try for a little while. I finally had the chance to make it in and I was not disappointed. My cousin was visiting from Washington and we popped in on a Friday later afternoon around 6:00. We were sat right away and immediately brought menus and water. I put in for an order of gyoza because that's a must for me anytime I have sushi. I also ordered 3 rolls. Gyoza : 6/10. They were vegetable so no protein. Still tasted good and I really enjoyed the sauce it came with. They were deep fried where I prefer pan fried, but again still good. Bay 8/10 - Spicy tuna, deep fried shrimp, and cumber. Topped with salmon, yellowtail, albacore tuna and jalepeno. Finished with sautéed onion, sweet sauce and and spicy mayo. Huge roll size wise, like ugly chewing, massive rolls. Really good though. I have never had a roll topped with sautéed onions but I was into it! It was my favorite part of the roll, alongside all the fresh fish included in this roll. Big bang 9/10 - Spicy Tuna, spicy crabmeat, and cucumber. Topped with seared albacore and jalapeño. Topped with sweet and spicy mayo sauces. I really enjoyed the spice level on this one. Jalepenos were a nice touch. This roll was also pretty large to where I was really close to asking for a knife to cut in half so as to not shove the rollls into my cheeks like a squirrel gathering food for winter. Inferno - 12/10: Spicy tuna, deep fried scallions, cucumber and jalepeno. Topped with tuna and spicy mayo. This roll is also served with a side of inferno sauce. This is the best sushi roll I have tasted thus far. I love spicy rolls and this definitely brought the HEAT. The cucumber really helps add some freshness and coolness to all that heat but this is definitely a very deliciously spicy roll. Also quite large and hard to eat but worth the ugly faces and stretching to eat all in one bite. I have never had to take rolls home until this visit. Each roll is almost like eating two regularly sized rolls anywhere else. The prices are honestly pretty damn good for the sizing and portions of the rolls. The service was really good from all staff members and the establishment itself was really inviting and comfortable. I'm thoroughly impressed and will definitely return. read more

The food is delicious. I have ordered takeout a few times and it was always very fresh and delivered quickly. The presentation is really nice. They loose a star for service because we waited really long for our food, our server only came to the table to take our order, bring us food, and didn't ask how we were doing until we had finished eating and were waiting to be offered boxes. We didn't even get a check, we wanted to leave so we walked up to pay. The prices are really fair and I will continue to return, but probably only for takeout. read more

I went here for lunch with a coworker one day. There aren't that many people during the day time, which I am surprised because this place was extremely good! The servers were super nice and patient as they always checked on us every once in a while. The main roll here is the Crack Cocaine roll. That roll is mandatory if you ever come here. Wow! If you want a place with good prices and big portions, sushi hook is your guy. We came in around 8:30 PM on a Wednesday night, it wasn't busy so service was fairly quick. There's music videos playing on the TVs with top hits (old and new). We ordered two rolls and a sashimi platter to share. The sashimi platter was around $42, which is an okay price. The cuts of sashimi were thick, but I did start getting a mild headache after consuming. I'm not sure if it's the raw fish itself or just my body playing games, but I'll be more weary about the type of fish i'll consume (I tried out each one) -- it started happening after I ate a piece of the tuna and yellowtail :( it was still very yummy though! The crack cocaine roll is to die for (haha), it's packed with flavor and I love how they don't skimp on the crab salad. The cuts of salmon on top are fatty as well and that roll alone could've filled me up. The princess roll had a hefty amount of cream cheese and crab salad, very delicious for those who enjoy tuna rolls. Horrible dining experience!! Food looked great but was served cold. Sushi was just ok. We had reservations for 7:30, table for 12. We ordered about 7:45 or so but nothing even started coming out until after 9:00! No salads, no soups, no appetizers and barely any drinks! After we questioned the timing, our food finally started coming out about 9:30 and all of our bento box meals were literally refrigerator cold, the chicken and beef were so cold that they got tough & rubbery . I refused my meal and offered the waitress to check the temp on it(she refused), she returned my plate but didn't offer to heat it or replace it. The others kept their boxes opting to just go home and warm it up themselves. When we asked the waitress for "to go" boxes she responded by saying, "oh you're ready to leave already?" We asked for a manager who said he watched the videos and our food only took about 7 minutes to reach our table and that he was giving us a discount/break by not charging us for the 1 meal that we refused. Also he said even though we called during the week and they took our reservation for tonight, that didn't mean it was an "actual" reservation, since they don't take reservations from Thursday through Sundays, WHAT THE HECK!! read more

We did a Yelp search and found Sushi Hook because it was opened until 11:00. When we got there, a large group (20+ people) had just left so there were a lot of dirty tables. There were 2 groups in front of us. We were seated within 10 minutes. Once seated, they asked us if we needed any drinks. We ordered our drinks but were not ready to order. It probably took us 10 minutes to determine what we wanted. We ordered a couple of appetizers. Our main order was sashimi and 4-5 rolls. It was the first time eating at a sushi restaurant for my granddaughter's friend so we ordered beef teriyaki for her. We got our appetizers within 10 minutes. We waited about 30 minutes for the sashimi and rolls. Everything was served on one big plate. The only roll that I remembered its name was Cracked Cocaine. All of the rolls were large and tasteful. Service was outstanding. They kept checking on us every 5 minutes or so. They answered any questions that we had. The food was plentiful, and we had a lot of leftovers. This sushi location is right around the corner from Sacramento State University. We've been seeing food on Instagram and decided to try it out. The location has ample parking, nice inside decor, and at the time we went, plenty of seating. Our server was very nice and we placed our orders. I was shocked at how inexpensive everything was, so I had low expectations. The food came out quickly. We got: 1. An excellent tuna hand roll. My husband said the tuna went all the way down to the bottom of the cone. 2. A bento box with delicious mixed tempura and tasty chicken katsu. It came with salad, rice and a spring roll. We probably should've just ordered that by itself for one of us, but of course we did not. 3. An excellent low-carb cucumber split roll. Very fresh, still had a heavy feel, but it was very light and tasted very good. 4. Bang bang roll, a lot of spice. Very good I loved it. As you can see from my pictures, the amount of food we got is more than I expected. We did go at lunch, so the Bento box was cheaper than the dinner menu, but we only paid $45 (not including tip).
