This place was so good! It got really busy while we were there around dinner time so I recommend trying to get there early on a Saturday night. The service was awesome and the food was even better. We got a bento box for kids to share and four rolls and everything was delicious, the variety of veggie rolls was great which is a rare find. It was also very clean and there was a lot of seating. They also had regular and less sodium soy sauce which I really appreciate when I go for sushi. I am from the bay and I picky about sushi and this gave me a Bay Area feel with more reasonable prices. My wife and I showed up looking like a biker couple from sons of anarchy and still received stellar service. We tried out the mixed tempura, crunch roll and ca roll all were made with perfectionism and class. We had our pit bull certified support animal by our sides and we couldn't be happier with how the staff interacted with her. Because let me tell you they all hit so far. The environment is welcoming. The staff is always on point. The beer is always frosty. I'm here at least every other week. Every time I come here I have to try different rolls. I'm just looking for the one that has me say ok ok ok they finally can't do something right. But I have yet to meet the one!! Sushi hook has been one of our go to spots ever since I started college at sac state. It's been 6 years now and it's still one of our favorite places to go due to its affordability and consistency. One of the things I commend them for is keeping their prices low and consistent even after all the inflation that happened in the past year, most places would increase their price about 50% more but sushi hook has kept its increase on the lower side while still keeping the portion sizes how it was before. It's a rare thing to see these days and I'm sure their patrons appreciate it too. Service has always been consistent as well, everyone was attentive and quick and kind. If there is an issue they will go above and beyond to resolve it and that just goes to show how much they care for their customers. We will continue to go to this place and would also continue to recommend it to friends and family as well! read more

Came here one time awhile back the server was so rude, I stopped coming , Me and my boyfriend wanted to give it another shot since we wanted some sushi and I know the server remembered me and had to have told the guy server she didn't like me or whatever the case but caused him to give us bad service as well and I am a great tipper as I am a server myself and it was like he was purposely avoiding our table the whole time when there was only two other tables in there towards the end of us eating . I've been coming here since I work close by and I would always get lunch whenever I have a chance but this morning this waiter was very rude. I'm working today so I decided to order to go as usual and i totally understand that he put me on hold because they were busy. I waited patiently and he finally took my order. I only wanted 3 miso soups which cost $1.95 each, 1 white rice for $2.50, and a side of plain udon noodles with no soup, just boiled plain noodles which is not listed how much on their menu but I assume it would just be less than $10 since it's just a side and nothing serve with it at all. I wanted to make sure so I called back to check my total and he was very rude telling me in a yelling and annoyed tone that the noodles was $10 so everything was $20 and just hung up right away. I totally understand they're busy and everything is getting expensive now and if he wasn't being rude, I would've still place the order but I decided to cancel after I call back. It makes me don't want to support this place. I called respectfully, and waited patiently and don't deserve this kind of attitude. There's times where they're busy and i even call 20 minutes ahead to order but when I go in I still have to wait another 20 minutes and that's already half of my lunch time but I understand and always waited patiently because I understand how busy it can get. Not sure what happened to this location, I was getting them for 3 years but now my buddy and I have only had terrible sushi. The sushi has been very fishy and seemed off. We tried it 4 times more (bc we loved them), to try and see if they'd improved but no! Some rolls are half assed and falling apart, some are fishy and some are missing ingredients. I honestly didn't really like the food here although the presentation of my Bento Box looked amazing. Sadly it didn't taste as good as it looked for me. My Bento box had salmon teriyaki, agedashi tofu, mixed tempura, 1 egg roll, and salad. I felt like there wasn't much flavor to anything. The salmon was a bit small, on the dry side, and teriyaki sauce wasn't memorable. Whatever they topped the agedashi tofu was weird and it didn't come with the sauce other places usually serve with it. The egg roll was crispy but bland inside didn't taste great to me. The salad and tempura was standard guess you can't really get those wrong. Also tried a piece of my friend's Tempura Roll which I really didn't like; it broke apart easily and was weird having lettuce in the roll. Miso soup was good. The bento box price is great for the total amount of food served. The way to order was cool with a QR code. You just select it on your phone and later pay on the same website. Even with the easy QR way to order the service was on the slower side. Parking is easy with a huge lot. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but I was really disappointed with this restaurant. I came in and placed an order, but it took over an hour for me to receive my food. I checked in at the 30-minute mark, and no one followed up. I checked in with another staff member, and again, no response. When I finally spoke with a woman at the counter, it sounded like they were just starting to make my food. She asked if I had eaten there before because "it usually takes an hour," which I don't think is normal. I've been here before, and it's never taken that long. I really wanted to like this place and from the vibe of other tables, this place should at least be mediocre. I can only describe my mood as "soulless" after eating their sushi because the sushi tasted...empty and bland?  BBQ tuna is not what we expect at all - it tasted more Chinese inspired than Japanese. It tasted ok but just too..soupy?  Bit Coin was DISGUSTING. The salmon and crab meat tasted horrible and the texture was mushy and just very off.  I don't even remember the name of the two sushi rolls we ordered... they looked very good presentation wise but were huge (impossible to eat in one bite) and bland. It was like eating a cold piece of rice with watery salad inside.  A comical interlude we had was we spotted a cockroach on the floor and the server quickly squashed it with a trash can, and said "how did a grasshopper get in here?"  There are way too many sushi locations in Sacramento for us to pick to ever come back here; this location is a BIG NO NO. read more

I still love my old college sushi spot. I first started eating here about 15 years ago when I was living in the apartments right next door. Soy sauce is offered from packets, no draft beers - all bottles, they lat white paper on the tables and you order from your phone. If you aren't familiar with their food, their food is great and most of their items are huge portions. Some of their rolls are 2 bite sizes.
