First off these people were so kind! I came in to place a to-go order and waited at the restaurant while they made my meal. One of the workers, Jaya, was so sweet and had a conversation with me the whole time. The sushi chef also made my dragon roll a bit special by adding this different tobiko (I think it was tobiko, not sure. Either way it was really good.) and these ripe cherry tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was another sushi place in this plaza. Upon arrival, I wondered what a typical night for this team was like as we were the only ones there around 7:30pm. As soon as we finished ordering, people came trickling in. A group of 4, another group of 4, a group of 2. Steady crowd. The staff is very attentive and polite. Prices are moderate. Food was good. I am glad to know that if I need a sushi fix, there are other options in the area. The menu is small but that is how you control guest satisfaction. They checked on me several times, even though I was set up with my laptop working during lunch, I totally appreciated it! Wowww, I had such an amazing experience here! It's a smaller restaurant, but they make do with what they have. It's definitely a little pricey but when is sushi not? Raw Oysters (5/5): So Fresh and clean !! I honestly could eat these all day, but probably not a good idea. LOL. However, the sauce is wonderful. If you love raw oysters like I do, definitely order this! Salmon Roll (not on the menu) 10/5!!: We asked the chef to make a roll with salmon and this was SOOO Good. I can't tell you exactly what was it in, but it was probably one of the best rolls I've ever had. It was so citrusy and flavorful not to mention fresh! I really wish I knew exactly what was in it so I could order it again. Crispy Rice (4/5): I really enjoyed this, but I wish the rice was crispier. It fell apart when I picked it up so it was a bit messy. But overall, the flavor was amazing. Caliente Roll (4/5): This roll was delicious but my only complaint was that I wish this one was spicy hence the name. Unfortunately, I didn't taste any type of kick. Despite this, the roll itself was really good and the flavors complimented each other very well. As I paid and was ready to leave, the chef told us to hold on because he's making something for us. GUESS WHAT!! He said it was Mochi Ice Cream. It's basically a toasted croissant with ice cream and chocolate inside. My Gawshhhhh, this was AMAZING !! I'm not sure if this is on the menu, but it really needs to be. I'm really going to order this every time (if possible, of course). It was just the perfect ending after already having such a great lunch. Overall, I'd definitely come back here again to try more items on their menu. Now for the food, the Kumamoto oysters have a delightful taste and were fresh. Really sad with how the last two times we have come here have been. This is our local sushi restaurant and the food is consistently good. We usually come here at least once or twice a month but we will likely choose another place further away based on the service recently. We expect to wait to be seated on a Friday or Saturday night, but last time we were there we waited 35 minutes for a table and the staff was totally flustered by the amount of people. The young girl helping us was very sweet and kept apologizing for how long our food took, but it was another 30 minutes to get our sushi. An hour and 5 minutes from when we arrived until we got served any food. We decided to come again today, chalking up last time to just a rough night. We added our names to the list at 7:20pm. Again, it's Valentine's Day so we weren't expecting to be seated quickly, but a large party left and we waited for 30 minutes for anyone to clean the open tables and seat us. Ok, fine, it took a while. Then we ordered and the real wait started! We ordered sashimi and a couple sushi rolls, nothing crazy. We waited an entire hour for our food. So at 8:50pm, an hour after being seated and an hour and a half after arriving, we finally got our food. In all the time we waited, no one came to offer us a bowl of edamame while we waited and barely checked on us. We also saw multiple pick up orders waiting at least 30 minutes for their orders. I get it, it's busy, but I think they need to work on staffing better for weekends and especially holidays and maybe not take as many to go orders when the restaurant is packed. If you're planning to go on maybe a weeknight or for lunch, the food is good, no complaints there. But unless you are ok wait in an hour to an hour and a half for sushi, I would not recommend going on a Fri/Sat. read more

The food is good, the service is friendly. I rarely write reviews, but they were not only very slow, but got the order wrong after we had waited almost an hour. I think I was also disappointed because it was our anniversary and we had our 5 yr old with us. It took about 45 min for the kids bowl to arrive and we have yet to have our water filled. I really like how close to our house this is and we used to frequent here more, but if I come to a place and have the patience to wait almost an hour for our food, when it isn't even remotely close to what we ordered it's upsetting. The waitress was working hard and again very polite. But she came to the table next to us almost 3 times as much as our table. I just didn't feel appreciated is the bottom line. Sat on writing this review for a while because our takeout experience was so shockingly offensive, and writing bad reviews isn't fun, but I think I need to write this. This happened on April 2nd. My partner and I ordered over the phone, and when we walked in the polite waitress told us it should only take 20 minutes for our order. The restaraunt had only two other tables being served but it took us an hour and a half to get our to-go order-- maybe they just don't typically do takeout? But when we got home, we found our roll arranged in a vulgar shape. I don't know if it's possible for my car to have shaken so much as to accidentally arrange it in this way, but in combination with the ridiculously long wait time, I can't help but see it as intentional. The worst part is that we were hungry, but the roll wasn't even edible. While the rice was fine, the fried kabocha in the center of the Veggie Lover Roll was powdery and tasted like it had been fried in very old oil, and even worse, the roll was covered in flakes that tasted the same. The bad oil taste was consistent in our other fried food-- which we ordered over $100 worth of. None of my family ate the spicy edamame, which they were looking forward to, as it was drenched in oil. One family member, however, did eat their spicy tuna roll, but they ended up with a sour stomach the next day. There is a great need for good sushi around Fairfield! We're very disappointed that Sushi King isn't changing that anytime soon. I sincerely hope other people do not have the same experience as us, as they do not seem like the kind of place to get takeout from. The crazy CA roll, shrimp tempura, and ebi appetizers were excellent! Only wish they served the ebi with wasabi paste. But not a deal breaker. Teriyaki bento boxes absolutely rocked! Very tasty! I was in the restaurant about 3 1/2 weeks ago and witnessed a situation that I was sickened by. After inquiring I was informed it was the manager Ryan who was behind the sushi bar. While I was waiting for my lunch I witnessed him leave the sushi area several times and go into the kitchen. He kept poking his head through the door, pointing his finger to the tables in the restaurant, and it was apparent he was mad. Then he came out to where the cash register is located and berated and humiliated two female employees. I witnessed one employee trying to stand behind the partition as to not disrupt the patrons eating lunch. She was crying. The patrons kept coming into the restaurant and were left seated with no orders being taken because he was busy, reprimanding them in front of everybody. There was no filter. One of the servers did leave the other server, who had helped me when I originally came in, was gracious, kind, and so apologetic for me having to wait. She was so professional and didn't say a word about what a transpired. She didn't need to. I observed the entire thing. We all know that things can happen between management and staff, but those things should always be handled privately behind closed doors and definitely not in front of all your patrons frequenting your restaurant. My only regret is that I didn't call the police or stand up for the employees when it was occurring. I will not frequent this restaurant again. The manager should be ashamed! read more

Really nice food, and inventively presented! Service is great one time, nonexistent the next. You're either drowning in liquids, or parched... That being said, I have been in the industry for 30 years. The NUMBER ONE thing I look for is cleanliness. This place absolutely tanks in that department: the carpet is disgusting, ripped and taped in more places than not. It's not even the same color as where the carpet is next to the walls. It hasn't been cleaned in... ever? And why would you even have carpet in a sushi place? Next, the bathrooms... The bathrooms are your typical storage facilities for small places like this, but at least keep them freaking clean people. There is an absolute pattern of dust that is along the walls which tells me the floor has not been cleaned, swept, or mopped in quite some time. Also, most of the lightbulbs are burnt out and nobody seems to give a shit as to whether or not they need to replace them. In a place that serves raw fish. So, I won't eat there anymore. I don't want to take my health in my hands. Which is a shame, because the food is very good, I just don't think it's clean. Dear Jay S, Please don't dismiss this with your "sorry for wasting your precious time" comment. I would absolutely take this to heart as constructive criticism and clean the place up. Like close down for a day ( or however many it takes) & have all your staff come in and scrub the place down from top to bottom and please rip out that disgusting carpet. Because there are probably 100 other people out there that haven't said this who won't come back and you probably don't know why. Or do you? Quit being lazy or burnt out. I was the first customer at 4:30 because my daughter wanted sushi, as we walked past the restaurant. I said I would never come back, but it's been years. We were seated promptly and service was fast until it started to pile up. In the end waiting for my card was the longest wait, which got me a little anxious as everyone who paid after me got their cards back already. I actually wanted to give this place more stars, as it wasn't the best but okay. We got the hamachi lovers, crazy cowgirl, lion king, wakame, hamachi Kama, miso soups, tea and ramune. I honestly thought portions were going to be bigger for the price. Wakame was $8 but most was on top of their garnish salad to hide the portion. I don't know if we were expected to eat it, but I was for my daughter who loves it. She has to pick a lot out within the bottom salad. The rolls were actually with real crab meat, which I appreciate, since I get sick off of the kani. The fish was fresh, no complaints on the rolls really. I thought $15 for hamachi kama was at least a medium sized collar, but it was very small. Kind of embarrassed because it wasn't for me, but for my dad. The menu has changed since the last time I've been there. I used to order a lot more, but it was hard finding something. But no doubt at least whatever they had was quality for the area. I do get my Japanese food across the bridge, and even get fish from a Japanese fish market many times, but it is nice to have an ok restaurant when you just want to stay in the area.
