Ummmm, no. I like that they have a little appetizer salad bar, a freezer of individually packed ice cream, and that the sushi is made to order. The staff was very nice too. Fast forward to yesterday, 9/24/2015, we returned to this Kempsville/Centerville location to give it another shot. Now, the only available option for lunch is the all-you-can eat buffet. So that's what we had. The seaweed salad, crab salad, other salads, and soups are now self-serve, at the "buffet bar," but all the sushi and other food is cooked/made to order. I liked the shrimp tempura app and gyoza. Everything else was disappointing - all 3 rolls of sushi that I tried, yikes. I didn't even want to finish them, but didn't want to be charged that extra fee for leaving too much food. After you're seated, the servers take your order and the sushi is made fresh and brought out to you as a beautiful presentation. Everything on the menu is fair game for the buffet: appetizers, salad bar, entrees, various sushi rolls, and desserts. The wait in between servings was a bit long at times but that's understandable considering everything is made to order and also depends on how hungry you are and can seem longer than it really is. I used to be totally against all you can eat sushi places because sushi is all about quality. They have a wide variety of both kitchen entrees, sushi rolls, and specialty rolls. They also have varying specials, a salad bar and some selection of desserts. There price has gone up since I first started going here from $10 to now $16. But even with he price increase you still get your money's worth. At traditional sushi places, a 2pc sushi order costs $2. I can eat 14 pieces on my worst day. This would cost me $28 at a normal sushi place compared to $16 at sushi king. And of course I eat much more than that. I really can't justify eating anywhere else for sushi now because I have not found one that is worth the price. I don't mind paying a lot for sushi but I want to be able to taste the quality different if I'm paying that much. In Hampton Roads I just haven't found a place like that yet. I go here quite often and is usually my first pick when I want sushi. I always bring out of town guests here as well. I will say that at certain times orders can take a long time. Wish I had more room in my belly to have ordered more!) The menu wasn't too overwhelming (literally one page for food items), and if you have little ones who may be hard to feed, you can order them some chicken nuggets and fries, hehe. So I went here for lunch today solo. I had the hunger for sushi but not wanting to spend a fortune. The main thing with this place is value. For 16$ (Tip included) and drink. No, is it crappy super market plastic container sushi? No it's not that either. It's in the middle and that's not a bad thing. This is the kind of place you want to go when you want to order a lot of sushi and just stuff yourself silly but not pay the usual price for it. I was watching a couple in-front of me order plate after plate, must have been about 20 orders, they were just crushing it, and they were skinny as a rail, sigh curse you Sicilian fat man DNA! If i did that they would have to make me part of the establishment because they would never get me out of there. It was very clean inside. The salad bar and miso station aren't amazing but I tried a few items and they were not bad. It's very large inside. And the servers are very attentive and come to you often. As an ODU college student, I always went to the Sushi King in Norfolk. I had almost forgotten what the one here was like. I must say I definitely found the favorite. It was Valentine's Day and I decide to third wheel with my parents. We are immediately seated regardless of how busy it was. We were immediately tended to by a waitress and got our drink orders as we looked over the menus. My parents had never gone before, but the waitress explained how the restraint worked very well. We first order the appetizers. There aren't many per order which is the only downside, but it's an all you can order restaurant! We then order the sushi rolls. As we waited, we helped ourselves to the salad bar filled with many delicious foods. I'm even salivating just thinking of the salad bar! The food came out in decent time and it was definitely worth it. The sushi was delicious and the presentation made it even more appealing. My personal favorites were the Volcano Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Of course I'm a spicy fanatic so only get those if you don't mind spicy! My mom doesn't usually like sushi, but I could tell she enjoyed what she ordered. Halfway through our course we had to switch tables due to an overflow of guests, but the manager was so nice about it and even offered a discount for the inconvenience. I definitely recommend this place if you even like sushi a little bit. Me and my boyfriend shared crab bites, shumai, edamame, spicy tuna rolls, spicy california rolls, spicy shrimp rolls, volcano rolls, salmon sashimi, and sea angel rolls. I really liked the crab bites and volcano rolls the most. For $16.99, the buffet was worth it. Other sushi restaurants tend to have sushi that isn't fresh and for a higher price per amount. I'm from Hawaii and since I moved, I've been let down by how many sushi places aren't authentic. I came in here with the expectation of decent sushi decent service. I ordered a hawaii roll and it tasted like how I would describe Hawaii, I had a small case if homesickness after the first bite. The service is absolutely amazing, I faked saying this was my first time at a sushi bar and even dressed the part, they walked me through everything fluently and with precision. One of my favorite sushi places. Tasty and affordable. You get a great mix of food choices, appetizers, regular entrees, and sushi. They sometimes have special rolls you can try as well. The little side salad bar has soups and some cold salad and fruit. Absolutely wonderful place to enjoy meeting with friends. This is a chain however the Centerville location does not do Groupon like the norfolk one. However their service is better. I've never had bad service here. read more
