I swung in on a Saturday night around 7:00. Initially, the dining area was smaller than what I was expecting. I was dining alone and could cozy up to the counter which was my saving grace. A family of four came in right behind me and couldn't find a table. Another perk of the counter was getting to watch the chefs do their thing! Service was prompt without being pushy, giving me enough time to look at the menu without being so distant that I had to flag someone down. I opted to start with some yellowtail sashimi (3 pc) which was fresh and light, despite being sizeable slices. They came out on a bed of uncooked rice noodles. Next up we're two rolls. I'm a tuna guy I went for the Gail Roll and the Magma Roll. The Magma came out first, topped with a spicy mayo. The sauce was a bit heavy handed, and really overpowered the taste of the roll. Once I scraped some of it off, the roll had good flavor. Next came the Gail Roll with a picked cucumber and two types of tuna. The roll had a bit more heat than I was expecting. Between the cucumber brine and the ponzu sauce, it left a bit of a vinegar pucker in my mouth that I could still taste on the drive home. All-in-all, the service outshone the rolls on my first visit. Like any good sushi place, it's a matter of trial and error. I'll come back again and see if I can find something more my style. They keep the restaurant really clean, they're attentive and most importantly their food! Omg their food is DELICIOUS!! One of the best sushi that I have ever had. Was unsure if this place was open due to covid19, but it was to dismay. Once I entered, it didn't take long to get seated. The staff definitely made sure everything was wiped down properly wiped down and sanitized. The service and wait for our food was not long as well. Excellent service. If I find myself in the Round Rock area, I will definitely come back. The only exception to this restaurant was just finding the location of the place. The directions had us going in circles. By far one my top favorite sushi restaurants. I loooove riceless rolls and could eat tons of sashimi but i really like their selection, Very creative and insanely delicious. Staff was super sweet and attentive. spicy garlic edamame was good octopus carpaccio was tasty Fancy hand roll was different and good Dynamite roll, you should pass on that. Gail Roll was lacking. The staff and food are top notch here. I've tried many of the rolls and appetizers on the menu and I have found not a one to be bad. Didn't work for me. I'm used to sushi being about clean, fresh flavors, combining textures, and keeping things simple. This was more about mashing together flavors and coming up with new twists. Stumbled upon this place and so glad I did! It's been awhile since I've had good sushi. I was so impressed with this place, I might have to move closer, lol. It's an hour and 15 min drive for me. Regardless, I will be back! Started with albacore sushi, lightly dressed with ponzu. Followed by a spicy tuna cut roll, which was excellent. Next a salmon skin roll, totally on point with bonito shaving and crunchy gobo just like I like it. I like my salmon skin with ponzu. This one tasted like it had a sweetened ponzu. It was good but it as good as plain ponzu. Yellowtail sushi was delicious. Sushi Chef Young recommended the Japanese Red Snapper with yuzu and fresh wasabi. OMG! Sooo good, I had two orders! Horrible experience! My wife and I called a head of time, and asked if there rice was GF. When we got there our server, didn't catch her name, was pregnant. Hope the best for her, but she was very rude and seemed like she didn't want to be there. I have been in the service industry a while myself and feel her persona was un welcoming. My wife and I absolutely love this place. We come here at least once a week. Our regular items are the Candy Roll and the Texas roll and both are fantastic. And recently they've added some cooked dishes. I've only tried the Chicken Teriyaki and it's amazing. So many places get this dish wrong, but not at Koen. Just right. The only fault with this place is that I wish they had more cooked fare, like they used to. They used to have some Korean dishes like spicy pork, and some excellent Japanese fried rice, but I think they lost their cook, or something. But hey, it's a sushi restaurant after all and their sushi is just great. Also, gotta mention their sublime Spicy Edamame. We order it with the spicy sauce on the side and this is definitely the way to do it. I use it like a dip, scooping up just the right amount of spicy oil and delicious garlic bits with each pod. Got the spicy pork entree and Miso Ramen. The pork came with a house salad (very simple), miso soup and rice. Pork had great flavor and wasn't very spicy. The Ramen was good but have had better. Would definitely come again for the great service and food- Slightly pricey. read more

First time coming here and am really impressed we had to wait 20 mins to be seated which was no issue cause once walking in I felt real safe. I tried the shoyu ramen and Californian roll (takeout) and both were great! The ramen had a delicious broth - not too salty - and the rolls were fresh but lacked avocado which I'm used to. I have to admit I have only ever gotten sushi rolls here (no sashimi). I've been here a few times but every time I have really enjoyed it. The rolls were really delicious. I've gotten the specialty rolls (like the Monica roll) and the standard rolls (like the shrimp tempura and the Philadelphia). they have a fast and friendly service. The inside of the restaurant is not very big so it can get crowded because it's pretty popular.
