I came here with a friend because she thought the way Chirashi was presented was really cute. I was not disappointed! The Chirashi came in a cute little boat along with the rice which was well seasoned. The regular sushi platter was more than enough for me (I have smaller portion) and I loved the portion of the salad appetizer. Usually restaurants only give a small plate but this place gave a small bowl of salad for each person. Service was really good. The waitresses came to check in on us multiple times and we were only there for less than an hour. Interior was very clean and modern, and I loved the ambience because of the dim yellow lights. I would say the quality of the sushi was great especially compared to the overpriced sushi place near my neighborhood that only has good presentation and mid sushi. I recently picked up the Sushi Regular and Chirashi Regular from this restaurant. Since it was restaurant week, they didn't offer their usual lunch menu, so I had to order from the regular menu instead. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed--especially with the salads. The quality was poor, and the lettuce looked like it had been frozen and thawed, making it completely unappetizing. I lost my appetite before even getting to the main dishes. I called the restaurant to let them know, and while they did apologize and said they would remember my name for a future visit, I'm not sure if I'll be back. Unassuming and quiet but big on flavor, I was pleasantly surprised by how adventurous this place was! I was thrilled to see natto on the menu and knew we had to get it. I've never had it mixed with any fish so this was a first and it definitely won't be the last. If you like natto, you'll love this dish. I can't say I've seen monkfish liver often on menus but was happy to see it on Sushi Koji's. This menu was different and a lot more fun than other typical sushi joints, I was impressed. Sushi for two was HUGE! We can eat but it was a bit overwhelming after enjoying three appetizers, lol. The presentation was great but only con was that I couldn't really talk to my friend because the sushi boat sail was in the way and the boat basically took up the whole table. 3.5 stars. I wasn't exactly looking for authentic, but I was looking for quality. It's definitely not a genuine Japanese joint but decent enough for a casual night out for some rolls. The fish was relatively fresh but they weren't of the high grade I'd prefer. It's also low level fishes, not the O toro types. Yes, I'm a sushi snob having grown up in asia eating from the best sushi that could be offered. Price was fair. Was disappointed that tea is a separate charge. Tea and ginger is an elementary requirement to enjoying sushi and should be offered as part of the meal. However, considering we don't have much sushi places to go to near the McLean area, I'll keep this in my back pocket for those nights I want an unhealthy amount of fusion rolls. RATING 3.5 stars FOOD We ordered the spicy salmon roll, salmon avocado roll, udon + sushi combo, chirashi, tuna roll, and poke bowl. The portions are enormous for the price (especially the poke bowl), and we couldn't have asked for a better bang for our buck. We had no qualms beyond the quality of the salmon, which constituted a large part of what we ordered. The texture of it wasn't as smooth as we would have liked, and it was quite chewy for raw fish (tendon-like) that made the experience less enjoyable. SERVICE Our waitress was very kind and was accommodative when we asked for more time to review the menu (several times!). Great service. AMBIANCE The interior is absolutely beautiful and draws from traditional Japanese design. The tableware is also aesthetically pleasing and complements the decor well. They def put in a lot of effort and detail into these boats, but it definitely makes me feel like a lot of it decoration instead of sashimi. I feel like it'd be more accurate to rate this a 3.5 but I'm willing to round up. The cooked food was good overall, but the sushi seemed very "mid". I was confused at the roll I had ordered and when the bill came it was in fact the wrong roll even though the server had repeated the entire table's order back to us and I confirmed it was correct. The tempura is fried a little crispier than what I'm used to but I find that to be a positive. The slightly more crisp coating made the contrast between the tempura and udon nicer. The spicy sauce is actually spicy which is nice. We did not order any sake, but I did notice they have very premium sake at a fair price. Honestly, the premium sake would definitely elevated the experience. Service was friendly, but slow. It's understandable to be overly busy when a dinner rush comes in and there is only one server. It's only really a problem if you're ready to order and it takes another 20 minutes or if you've drank your glass of water needing a refill. The anime characters are cute and the design overall of the restaurant is really nice. The others who dined at me enjoyed their food as well, but mentioned price was a bit high. A great sushi restaurant in Vienna! I had been craving sushi but I didn't really want to stray too far after work. Found this place on Yelp and became interested as the pictures of the fish looked amazing. Upon entering the establishment, it was a very clean and minimalistic interior which I love especially while eating raw fish. We were seated down immediately and our server was immediately there to help us as it was our first time. We started off with chicken karaage which was amazing! It had a nice crunch and I loved the edition of the pepper. For entree I got the sashimi large. Note that most places don't give as much sashimi pieces but at sushi koji for the price of $36, they give you A LOT of pieces for a large platter. Not only were there plentiful of sashimi pieces, each piece tasted soooo fresh. Such a great hidden gem for the area especially for nigiri and sashimi. I'm not really a sushi roll person so this place was perfect for me. Definitely give it a try if you're looking for a good sushi place without overspending too much. read more

Sushi Koji is a new Japanese restaurant that opened in December 2021. It's relatively small and located in the newly renovated Cedar Park shopping plaza at the corner of Cedar and Park. The interior is pleasant and cute, but feels a bit cramped. My family placed a takeout order for a sashimi platter, 2 sushi platters, gyoza, and some la carte pieces. Overall, I would give it a high 4 out of 5 stars. The sashimi platter was very fresh - the white tuna was outstanding and the toro (fatty tuna) was quite good! The restaurant seemed pretty busy for a mid-week evening (in February 2022). Although Sushi Yoshi is still one of the top Japanese restaurants in Vienna (for their chirashi), I think Sushi Koji is a close 2nd or 3rd place among sushi restaurants. But it's definitely a welcome addition to the area! We can't wait to try their ramen later in 2022. read more

Didn't care much for the dressing on the salad. It was more mayo based than the typical ginger dressing at most sushi places. The steamed egg was really delightful - creamy & light with a juicy shrimp hidden within. The cuts of fish were great quality & very fresh. Rice was well cooked & seasoned. A big negative drawback is the steep prices - especially for lunch. It doesn't make sense to pay $23+ for lunch specials with good competitors such as Sushi Yama & Sushi Yoshi close by with lunch specials priced much lower. We decided to try something new every chance we get so today we tried Ankimo (monk fish liver) which was amazing! It has a smooth and creamy texture with a distinct taste. A must try! Me and my fiance got their weekday lunch combo which is ramen and sushi roll. I got the Kaizen Ramen + Eel Sushi. The ramen was good! My favorite part of my meal was the noodles, the fried crab and the soft boiled egg. The ell sushi was amazing too! My fiance got the Tonkotsu Ramen + Eel Sushi. A standard neighborhood sushi restaurant. Not amazing, but not terrible. A solid 5.5/10. Food: fish was a bit fishier than I would have liked, rice was a bit too compressed and dense. My wife's tempura udon was good and we both loved our ades (yuzu and plum). The food was presented very nicely though so plus points for that. Value: here is where Sushi Koji lost a lot of points. surprisingly, more expensive than competitors ($48 for 9 nigiri and a roll?!) for less return (cheaper sushi options like white tuna/escolar or cooked shrimp in the nigiri combos). I've had other restaurants include toro before but here I felt like they were skimping. $10 for two salmon belly nigiri is a bit too much for the quality. Service: Great, attentive staff and quick turnaround on food. Ambiance: above average decor and quite welcoming. The fish was fresh and rolls were yummy. We ordered: - Sake Don (recommend) - Salmon belly nigiri (faaaave - def recommend) - Tamago (egg) sashimi (love - 10/10 taste & aesthetic) - Negi toro roll (recommend - very fresh) - Crawfish roll (recommend - creaminess is nice) - Shrimp tempura roll (solid staple) - Salmon avo roll (solid staple) - Eel cucumber roll (just ok - prefer it with avocado instead of cucumber!) The online ordering system was very easy. You place the order, get a confirmation email , then get another email when your order is ready. We ordered right around 515pm and the estimated pickup was 545pm. We ended up getting an email that it was ready even earlier than that. Pickup was easy and it looked very cozy inside. Can't wait to dine in someday! One opportunity for improvement re ordering: the online ordering platform does not include descriptions for the rolls. I had to cross reference photos from Yelp with the ordering site to figure out what was in the speciality rolls. And there is one that is still a mystery to me- the rock and roll! If anyone knows what that is, please tell me! I can't wait to try more sushi, and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of their ramen machine from Japan. The beef donburi came with a salad with a house dressing I don't much care for, but also a little egg custard with shrimp, which we enjoyed (it tasted like a nifty creamy omelette, with a kind of bacon-salty flair to it). Inside the interior gives Okinawan vibes from the blue glass decorations, which compliments the dishes they serve (look at the photos)~ I ordered the lunch special which was A LOT for me. I got the tempera udon, which came with my choice of spicy salmon rolls. It doesn't look or sound like a lot, but like I said (look at the pics). I was very excited to try a new Vienna sushi spot, but it was just an okay experience. Our orders were the udon roll plate, poke don, salmon rolls, and Chirashi. The service was great! Most of the fish were fresh, but had a different texture. I ordered the Chirashi lunch and the assortment of options were not very appealing (egg, white fish(?), octopus). It also came with salad, miso soup, and this egg custard. I've definitely had a better Chirashi at other Vienna sushi locations!
