Came in for a quick lunch. For someone who eats sushi almost daily, I just needed my fix haha but this place actually gave me a different flavor to enjoy with the "usual" and even with a twist. Everything's taste was extra for me this time. The sushi tacos are definitely for the raw fish lovers! Also, their fried rice... wow! Our FAVORITE restaurant is Canton in the Gables and we order sushi several times EVERY WEEK from the Grove so we thought we would try canton in the grove. It was worse than dog food. The chef should be embarrassed even letting this quality out his door. Maybe there is a teenager who is cooking? I have never experienced that nothing was edible. The lettuce wraps were like syrup coated and sweeter than PF CHANGS and no mushrooms and no water chestnuts- only stiff overcooked super sweet with a deep fried texture it is so dried out. I asked lettuce on the side so it won't get soggy but got it served under and to go by the time you get to brickell it is wilted soggy lettuce. The won ton in the gables is so good we eat it at the restaurant and get 2 to go for lunch. The grove chicken is as burnt and dried and a dog couldn't chew it and the won tons were a mushy ball of over cooked dough burnt and again worse than dog food quality. I'm so surprised by this experience because we order sushi here many times every week and we LOVE canton in the Gables. It was so bad that I would like an apology letter and full refund and confirmation the chef from the gables will go over and quality control the grove. read more

Quick, clean, easy to order with the kiosk. The bad, as I eat the salad I noticed that my roll is being made. When the server picked it up (the plate) a piece of the tuna fell on the glass top. He didn't noticed and set the plate aside waiting for the other roll to be done. Then I see him notice the fish on the glass top and still brings me the roll without a piece of fish at the top. Hello? The prices reflect the content of food expected. I then told the server that if they can replace the piece of fish that is missing, and I get the most petty slice of tune with a huge piece of avocado. I hate writing negative reviews, specially for a place that has good food and plates well. I usually order for delivery because I LOVE the egg rolls. However the three times I have been here in the past year...each time has been worse than the last They have A LOT of staff, but the staff is standing around. It's hard to understand why they have no table service...which, ok I can live with. But they don't wipe the tables, they leave food for a long time after guests leave (outdoors you can see the birds eating it). The tables outside are full of bees because they clearly don't wipe them well... They aren't welcoming, they bring the food but no chopsticks napkins or anything. I had to go get my own. Twice. Last two times I have been here there has been about 2-3 FOH and about 1-3 tables... And the service has been inexistent... To the point I'm surprised they just don't ask you to walk into the kitchen and make your own food. I actually can't remember a restaurant with worse service... I really can't think of one. Not even fast food on the highway. Heck my local gas station has better service. The food is very good, no complaints about it. Kitchen looks clean. This restaurant has a very cool vibe, because when you come in, the staff greets you with a smile. I like the fact that one can order and the food is brought to you. Our server was really nice. I love the combination of both flavors dipped in the spicy Mayo sauce, topped with a bit of wasabi and ginger. My friend is a vegetation so she ordered the mighty shroom roll. It had mushrooms, spinach & avocado wrapped in brown rice. My absolute favorite was the half & half dessert which consisted of 4 tempura Oreos and Thai donuts. This Sushi Maki is located in a fabulous spot in Coconut Grove next to Monty's on the bay. Usually when I come here, I sit outside under one of their umbrellas and it's a nice, relaxing atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food is hit or miss when it comes to the raw fish. The last time I came I had the tuna poke bowl (with raw tuna) and it was great, but other times I've ordered sashimi or nigiri, the fish has not tasted fresh. At this location you order at the counter so it's not the typical served experience of the other Sushi Makis I've been to in Coral Gables and South Miami, but all the staff has been helpful and friendly in my experience here. Considering that I've gone to other sushi maki's and this is the only one that we had to order at the counter before we had a seat - it automatically lost a star. Sushi was good but not as good as it's always been in the past, and it had never let me down. It was a little bitter? I don't know. Another thing I didn't like is that their seaweed salad is basically 50% seaweed salad and 50% carrots. We had their beets + cucumber poke bowl and I was not a fan, but my boyfriend liked it. It was certainly missing something. I'm not the biggest fan of soy sauce, but that helped sort of. We had their vegan rolls: 24 carrot, sweet tato roll, and their mighty shroom. Like I mentioned, 24 carrot and tato roll was a bit bitter. I wonder if an ingredient wasn't fresh? Because their mighty shroom was fine. I m not coming back here. Fruit flies all over the place. The food was not good: 1) I got seaweed salad. For some reason it was harder to chew then it should be ( 3 out 5) 2) i didnt like my coral reef rolls, it was very plain, i felt like it was missing smth, but soy sauce kinda helped ( 2 out 5) 3) passionfruit sangria was good (for some people it can too sweet), but i liked it (4 out 5). The worse part of my meal was fruit flies!! I had 3-4 flies above my food constantly. I started coming here because I accepted a higher level position in my industry at the office tower across the street. This Sushi Maki location is something I noticed right away as its walking distance from my new office. I've had a few sushi rolls, chicken fried rice, and the teriyaki chicken with brown rice within the last couple weeks. All have been superb... I haven't been to a Sushi Maki for some time now but so glad I stopped by the other day; this is a quick serve concept and this particular store boasts an open concept that you walk up and order, and then find a seat where a server will bring your food to your table and help you with any additional needs or wants you may wish for. Imagine something very similar to Nordstrom's Cafe Bistro concept...it's sort of like a full serve but not really. The layout is beautiful and really done nicely at this location, and I was surprised to see so many wonderful choices they offered, from sushi, sashimi, salads, bowls, and really ingenious sides too like their very popular Korean Fries...a must try if you're here. All the food was super fresh and great on taste...not only pleasing to the eye, but so worthy when you take a bite; it's all Instagram worthy! My only suggestion is that when you order their grilled salmon, they should give an option for the temperature you desire; the salmon they use is top of the chain from Bakkafrost located in the Faroe Islands, and if you've had this raw which is what they serve, I would never cook a piece past a 45 second sear on each side and enjoy it with their ginger dressing. The sashimi choices was your typical fresh tuna, yellowtail and salmon and all of it was great. I particularly enjoyed the Yoshi Beef Bowl $8.50 that came with flavorful beef, onions and a sunny side egg...you mix the yolk with the rice and beef and wow...what a great combo and value too. I didn't get to try an of their desserts or bubble tea but best believe the next time I'm around, I'm trying it all especially the Tempura Oreos and Thai Donuts. Can't wait to go back! read more

There's a mix of tables and booths, so if you work in the area it would be good for a work-day lunch spot. PLUS they have free wifi. I'll take my to-do list with a side of sashimi, please! While Sushi Maki isn't life changing, mind blowing sushi- it is fresh, consistently tasty and pretty cheap for the serving size. The menu is similar to the other locations, but I did notice some new poke bowls have made the list and I am extremely pleased by this. I ordered the Aloha Soy bowl and it was delicious. Fresh tuna, seaweed salad, edamame and sunflower seeds which I thought was a unique addition. The portion is great - not too much rice and bountiful servings of tuna. You order at the counter and pay immediately, and then a server brings your dish to your table. Turnaround time during a busy lunch visit was about 5 minutes (if that) for my food. You can't be fresh sushi, a pretty setting and quick service. Although its fast casual, if you're sitting around (like I was on my laptop) the server comes back to check on you to see if you want anything, so it seems like you can add to your order if you want. awesome. I write this review with a heavy heart. I really wanted to like this place. Every time I would walk pass one it's always full. I'd been craving sushi for a while and was looking for a place near by to place a DoorDash order. Saw that Sushi Maki had 4.5 so it had to be good! My husband and I ordered the mango dragon burrito, chicken ramen soup, egg rolls and gyoza. I had never had a sushi burrito so I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. However I did not enjoy the fishy smell the seaweed wrap had. But I guess that's personal preference. The burrito was actually good. The ramen and gyoza were just bland. Very little flavor. Something you should know about me I LOVE sushi. The location is awesome because of the marina right outside. It's such a cute resturant. You order at the counter and they give you a table number for them to bring the food to you. Try to go during happy hour (4pm-8pm) HALF OFF ROLLS. Whether you get a boba tea or a beer, you get two rolls with the deal! I love boba but sadly I didn't like it from this location that much. I had ordered a matcha green tea boba smoothie. Also had a taro boba smoothie which wasn't the best either. The service is great, everyone is so nice and brings food to your table. Mine took a little while to come but that's because I got 4 rolls....told you I love sushi. I had shared it and by the second roll I was already stuffed but I had to keep going. They were all so good. I had ordered JB tempura (great if you're not that much of a fan of sushi but like salmon, this roll is the one that got me into sushi) , dragon roll, red dragon reloaded (which was AMAZING, it had a ceviche dressing on top which gave it a lime flavor).
