I always enjoy my meals here. Last night tried a new roll a Crazy Mexican. We ordered it with soy paper instead of the kelp. Highly recommend you try it. Also had Tempura veggies & shrimp. I'm bummed writing this review. I used to love this place. Ever since they switched locations it's seemed like everything from quality to common sense has gone out the window. We came in this evening and ordered food as usual. The waitress left us for twenty minutes as we were waiting for drinks while there were only two other tables with people at them. Had to ask for a sushi menu and we were given one without a pen/pencil so we had to remember what we wanted to order before the waitress returned 20 mins later again. One dish was delivered improperly (we received a chirashi bowl with rice when we had ordered a spicy sashimi bowl with salad only) but we were hungry so ate it anyways and left the rice. Everything else was just bland and awful. Then my cousin pulls a HAIR!! out of her mouth after taking a bite of the chirashi bowl. The waitress said she'd remove the item from the menu...and goes to do so but removes the cheapest item. Asked her to correct it and she does so. I'd also might add that her hair was all up in her face and hanging over the front of her shoulders so I wouldn't be surprised if it were hers. We went shopping after and all three of us became violently ill, which had never happened before as we eat sushi once a week, at least. I'm so disappointed. This is closer to a 2.5 star review but the good service kept me from giving it a 2. I think a huge redeeming quality about this place is that it has an enormous sushi menu with many interesting options. My absolute favorite is the Bahama cruise which has fried coconut shrimp and is topped with mango and a pina colada drizzle. The price can get very expensive for what I expect. Don't get me wrong, the sushi tastes great but the ambiance does not reflect the menu price. I also tried the udon noodle soup which was pretty disappointing as it was bland and lacked any special quality. The fried ice cream was not good either, but I have high expectations for fried ice cream so I'm not sure if that is fair (the quality of the ice cream tasted similar to an off-brand vanilla ones they sell in huge quarts at wal-mart). I wish they would put as much attention and quality to their other food items like they do their sushi, if they did that this place could be a solid 4. read more

Visited a few weeks ago and while waiting for my sushi, I saw three roaches in the restaurant. One crawled up my leg. Also, the sushi chef was making his rolls right next to the trash can where there were a few flies. Raw fish is pretty temperamental anyway. No need to introduce filthiness as well. read more

If you like sushi this is one of the best places to go. Incredible variety of roles and their sushimi is as close ad it gets to Japanese authenticity. Having lived in Japan for over year I find this one of the closest places for authentic sushi still not quite as good as Being in Japan but it's pretty good. If the owner is in the service is amazing, when she's not you can tell the difference right away . Slower to visit your table, have to ask for things twice. I have been here a few times. The last time was for my hubby's birthday. This place by far has the best sushi in the Brandon area! I like to start off with the tempura veggies which is always delicious! I think my 2 favorite rolls are the orgasm roll and the Mexican. I remember the first time I tried the orgasm roll and thought "what a funny name" but it suits it perfectly! Because it was my hubby's birthday we got a free roll which was unexpected but nice. Price was slightly expensive but worth it. The service was great. The location is very hidden and feels like a hole in the wall but that's ok. It's also pretty small so I'm not sure if there would be a long wait time if it was busy in there but each time we have gone it's been super fast and efficient. Was craving some sushi for lunch. Wait staff was nice, My wife played it safe and got teriyaki chicken while I ordered a Hannah roll and Ninja beef. Teriyaki chicken was really juicy and soft without being chewy. The Hannah roll had a sweet green sauce on top which was something new. The ninja beef was marinated well, the rice wasn't undercooked which I've seen at some places. Definitely recommend. read more

We really want to like this place. Really. It's just hit-or-miss too often. The good: (1) it's in a pretty easily accessible part of Brandon/Valrico next to the Publix on Bloomingdale and Bell Shoals. (2) It's never too crowded. (3) they have a HUGE list of available rolls with a large variety of fish and accompaniments. (4) The fish tastes pretty decent and fresh. The bad: (1) They frequently --- I mean so often you notice it! --- run out of rice. I mean, we have been there on at least 4 different occasions where they had no rice to make the sushi, and we had to wait an extra 30 minutes or so for food. (2) They do not wrap their rolls tightly. It's not "awful" but it is annoying to pick up a piece with chopsticks and it literally unrolls before you can eat it. (3) Their waitstaff...well, it's strange. They sit at the bar and talk and eat and play around with the sushi chefs while they make the food. I understand that they are friends, but I always feel like I am interrupting them if I ask for something. It's weird to watch your waitress eat while you are also eating. It feels unclean when she stands up, brushes her hands on her pants, and then serves you food. Again, this has happened more than once. If you don't mind easily waiting an hour for a couple of rolls, it's not a horrible choice. Just be prepared for REALLY slow service and "eh...it's not AWFUL" sushi. read more

Sushi ninja is absolutely beautiful, no doubt about it! the atmosphere and the environment is quite nice and calm. The hospitality is welcoming and everyone is on top of their work making sure to give you good customer service. Though the customer service is good-great the food is okay. I was a little disappointed when i had ordered the first time because the potential for the food could have been great! for the pricing, i did not feel as if it had met the right point for what was served. I think Sushi Ninja has great potential but i think the prices should either be lowered a bit or some things should be changed about the food. I usually order sushi and i would recommend it to friends and family if they wanted something for a night out without worrying about spending. read more

Sushi Ninja is at the top of my list when it comes to sushi restaurants. The sushi rolls are diverse, original, and absolutely delicious. It is a small place, and the staff is fantastic. The waitresses are very friendly and attractive too. The only negative is the price is a bit on the higher side. However, it is well worth it. My personal favorites for rolls are Mt. The selection is great and has many rolls you've probably seen before (California, Spicy Tuna, etc.) and many ones that are more local, (Tampa, FishHawk, and various ones named after people.)
