I heard about this new place from a friend and had to check it out and I'm glad I did! The setting was elegant and intimate, a great spot for date nights. There's also a wine bar which is a major plus. The fish was all fresh and on point. Also the service was attentive but not overbearing, just the right amount. Sushi Note consistently delivers some of the best sushi in Los Angeles. The omakase menu is inventive and tends to be split half and half between tried and true classics and whatever is fresh. The truffled scallop is one of the best pieces of sushi anywhere. The wine list is unmatched by any sushi restaurant in Los Angeles, probably due to Sushi Note being under common ownership with the also excellent Augustine Wine Bar across the street. If you want little food at a very expensive price because you can waste away money, then this is your place. So buyer beware. Rich people only. If you're going to pay 60 bucks for 8 pieces of sushi (remember thats usually a 14-18 dollar role at most places) then you might as well go to a location like Beverly Hills or Malibu. So I want to preface this by saying I love sushi and I don't mind paying for quality. I wanted to test the quality of this restaurant by ordering their omakase/full note, which I find is usually a great way to get to know what a sushi place is all about. My friend and I came around 8pm, to an uncomfortably loud restaurant, quite a few wine drunk late 40s early 50s guests (not the restaurant's fault, but will be relevant later). A free sparkling rosé to open up the palate was a nice touch. The first app (tofu something) was great and interesting. Some miso soup and edamame. Then came the sushi, giving credit where credit is due the first 3 or so pieces of sushi were amazing. Tender melt in your mouth stuff! Then it all went down hill. After our first plate of 5/6pieces we got one more (which was ok) and then were told that was it for the sushi and we could add on more for an extra cost. We were a bit taken aback but said no just continue the omakase as planned. We then got one tuna handroll and were told that was it. I have never walked away from an omakase hungry. Both myself and my friend were in shock after receiving a $130 bill EACH (with sake and tip). I kid you not we walked to another restaurant to buy more food because we were not yet anywhere close to full. Again, I understand quality, but it's outrageous to have a guest pay $130 to walk out hungry (and if you look at the reviews a few people have complained about this). This seems more like a place that older folks go to get wine drunk and then overpay for a few pieces of sushi. Unfortunately I won't be going here again but best of luck folks. read more

Paid $130 for omakase and saki - walked out STARVING and went to Gyu Kaku to get an actual meal. Sushi Note is your typical over-priced wine bar which feeds off of geriatrics who don't eat much and spend a whole lot. For what it's worth, there was some good sushi, but was it a good deal? Honestly, I'm very surprised Sushi Note has 4.5 stars. I'm a big sushi expert, I've been to almost all the best sushi restaurants around LA and in Japan. I was excited to come try the omakase here due to the hype and reviews. But unfortunately the quality of the fish "from Japan" were very underwhelming. Salmon is my favorite type of fish and they served lox that would normally go on a bagel. The miso soup was the only thing I enjoyed. I just got home and my stomach also hurts. Also the server didn't know how to pronounce the word "Omakase" correctly, which immediately gave me a red flag. Sorry but definitely not going back. read more

Having dined at this restaurant twice it has become clear that the portions are too small, the prices are too high, the food is simply not delicious, the service is just adequate, and there is no dedicated parking available. In addition, courses were skipped (just not served), food brought in the wrong order, AND we were overcharged by $40 (blamed on an IT error), which to the restaurant's credit was immediately corrected once we noticed. Had an amazing time here for me and my boyfriend's anniversary. We each ordered the Full Note Omakase and wine pairings to go with it. We left it all up to our fantastic waiter, Andrew, and he brought us some amazing wines. Went for the omakase. For $80, it just didn't feel adequate. You get edamame, miso soup, 10 nigiri pieces, and a hand roll which had soggy seaweed wrapped around. The nigiri pieces were all decent, albeit small. I think 12-14 would be more suitable for the price. Great customer service though and a cute little spot. Sushi Note is an experience. The full note is beautifully presented and timed so you can truly enjoy yourself while savoring the delicious food. The sommelier, Sean, made expert paring decisions for us and we tried some wines we never thought to pair with sushi. I'm sent convinced bringing my 6 year old would be a good idea, but the staff did a great job bringing her avocado rolls, miso soup, cucumbers, mushrooms, eggplant and sorbet. I had the pleasure of dining at Sushi Note last night, and it truly was a delightful experience from start to finish. The decor is gorgeous, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and the sushi was incredible...simply mouth watering! What I also love is the thoughtful and eclectic wine, sake and beer selection they have (makes sense since some of the partners also own Augustine Wine Bar, another fav of mine!). I never drink beer, but decided to try the recommended beer from Japan and I am so happy I did! It paired perfectly with the sushi we ordered. We've been fans of Chef Saito for years and we're thrilled that he's back. Our meal at Sushi Note was exceptional in every respect. My wife was born and raised in Tokyo and she compares Saito's omakase to the best, high-end sushi in Japan. The staff is warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable (happy to see you, Aya!), and the wine pairings worked beautifully (we followed recommendations and were never disappointed. We were also delighted to see our favorite chef from Tama Sushi (Takeshi) working at Saito's side. Best of all, in addition to the 5-star cuisine and service, Sushi Note has the same relaxed atmosphere as the legendary 4 on 6. One visit and we felt like family. I really loved Sushi Note. We ordered almost all of the Japanese special fish and it was great, particularly the snapper dishes. I do agree with the reviewer who said the rice wasn't the best, but the fish was fresh and delicious, and they did wine pairings with each serving. It's difficult to find sushi with decent wine, so much appreciated! We didn't really order any veg so can only speak to the sushi. Will definitely be going back. read more

Okay, I've added this place to the sushi list next to Onodera and Sushi Zo (the list goes, Sushi Q and Go's Mart). I'm so glad to finally find a reasonable yet a quality 4.5 star sushi place (8/31/2018). He doesn't have a wide variety of seafood, yet ensures what he serves is all super fresh and seasonal. I must say that Otoro was a bit too cold, but everything else was served at the right temperature. No time to take any photos when you have a right company with a right taisho (head chef). I don't think I'll come back for a la carte, but for the omakase menu prepared by the taisho. Please be noted to that this is for a dining sushi experience. He doesn't serve as many cooked dishes as some of others do in the omakase menu. I like it that way! read more

Excellent sushi prepared with skill by chef Saito. The fish here is flavorful and the daily specials have fish you rarely find elsewhere.

I usually only gave one or five stars but I know it is challenging to run any business during pandemic. I am fine with the fact that the order was late for more than 15 minutes as it would s supposed, since restaurant may not communicate well with delivery app, which I think you guys definitely need to improve significantly . More importantly I was really hungry but I am still not impressed by the nigiri... I do think I have better from some sushi restaurants near studio city...the spicy tuna roll is good but that's not why I try sushi note in the first place. Good luck... read more

My husband and I ate dinner here last night. The staff is really accommodating, friendly and helpful in terms of food and wine suggestions. All things considered, this is the best sushi date restaurant in the valley, in my opinion, of course. My opinion takes into account the ambience, food, service, noise level, and overall meal enjoyment. It's not a rushed dinner experience as many sushi places can be quite quick. You have two hours to enjoy your meal until the next reservation arrives. Sugarfish will always be hands down the most delicious, always reliable quick sushi (especially for the money) but I don't want to always go to Sugarfish and eat in 30/45 mins. Plus, Sushi Note has SO MUCH MORE in terms of food and drink. Katsuya and Kiwami will always be solid (and family friendly) but Sushi Note truly kicks it up a number of notches. Here's what we ordered: Shishito peppers - great Spicy tuna biscotti (crispy rice) - really good Albacore pepper sashimi - really good We each got a quarter note omakase (edamame, miso soup, 4 pieces of sushi + hand roll) - salmon, yellowtail, halibut, albacore, and an out of this world albacore hand roll. Truly one of the most delicious things I've ever had. I love dessert and I'd gladly trade it for that hand roll any day. The pieces of sushi top notch too. It was $215 with tip and tax and so worth it (that included a fabulous glass of white wine and a beer). I've already made another reservation to return with friends. If you are a true sushi fan you will really enjoy yourself. read more

Perhaps as all the years pass I become more and more of a sushi snob. If you seek traditional excellence combined with a wonderful selection of wine to par with your meal, this is a wonderful experience. Reservations should be made as sitting at the sushi bar is an experience in and of itself. I have been following Saito-San for many years and his expertise and wonderful demeanor makes for a wonderful experience. Although as a chef he will make you whatever you desire, the best experience is to have him serve you. There are so few Sushi restaurants left that are steed in the tradition and experience that you will have at this wonderful restaurant. Went here for dinner last night after reading about it on eater. Beyond exceeded our expectations, service was soo good food was even better! The hostess was the sweetest most amazing person ever who made our night extra special and went above and beyond to fit us in even though we made a last minute reservation and they were fully booked. Finally a great sushi restaurant that has incredible wine. Kitchen food is delicious, the black cod trumps Nobu and both the mushroom and lotus root appetizers will have you smiling ear to ear. The sushi is simple, and the selection focused but you can't go wrong with the chefs daily offerings which change each morning. Definitely try the gravlox and sea eel sushis from the menu but also see what he's got fresh. On the sashimi side the scallop carpaccio rules as does the albacore kanpari. Last but not least the wine flight is always a fun route but they've got some incredible gems on the bottle list hiding and waiting to be shared among a table.
