There are a few sushi spots just down 2nd street, so there's competition in this area to prove which is the best. This one is solid, but not my favorite. We had the refreshing roll and the magic mountain. First, the refreshing roll. It actually does live up to its name I being refreshing x the flavor profile is a citrus and light flavoring that adds a zesty sourness to the dish. The only issue is that by the end of the dish, the flavor overstayed it's welcome just a tad. This would be great to share with others. The magic mountain was a baked shrimp roll. This contrasted the other roll because it was definitely heavier and savory. This was a pretty good baked roll! Overall, it's a solid spot. Not the greatest, but definitely not the worst. With all the sushi spots here, it's knot my go to, but if you want something different, you can't go wrong here! read more

One of my favorite sushi spots! Their Refreshing Roll is hands down my all-time favorite--light, flavorful, and perfectly named. The Crunchy Roll pairs beautifully with it. This sushi spot is so FIRE! I have come here a few times, and it has never disappointed me. It's very affordable comapared to other restaurants on 2nd street. This place gets really busy on the weekends, the street parking is limited, and they do not take reservations. Conveniently, this sushi spot is within walking distance from me. Their service is so fast you barely have time to finish your appetizer. Enjoy a nice cup of miso soup with your meal and gyoza. I enjoy their crispy gyoza with their sweet sauce. For their sushi, their Crunchy B roll is my favorite. I love masago eggs, so this is the roll for me. Their 911 roll is a lot; I feel like I have to cut it in half. I'm usually a big chicken teriyaki guy; I have to get that with my sushi rolls. If I need some extra protein for the day, I may get it here, but the chicken has no flavor, and when you get it for takeout, you have to put the sauce on yourself. I also came to this place late once, and the waitresses or the takeout gals working takeout barely wanted to take our order when it closed within 30+ minutes. The place is quite dingy looking. When we were entered one large table behind us hadn't been bussed yet and remained dirty for a fair share of our meal. It was very empty while we were there yet the service was poor. They forgot our Diet Coke, yet billed us for it. The sushi was overpriced and disgusting. I could smell each plate of sushi -- which is weird because sushi isn't a fragrant food. Something was off about the rice. It smelled very "toasty" (not burned) and looked congealed. Been going here for years. Our favorite sushi spot on 2nd. So many options and the staff is readily attentive.

The food came out very quickly. However, I felt like the sushi itself was lacking, it didn't seem that fresh or flavorful. The triple crispy, seemed like a unique option on paper but the tuna on top had nothing special to it and the sweet potato base was interesting. I will say the girl on the beach was pretty good. I have ate at sushi on fire twice now and both times have gotten something different. Have not been disappointed. They start you off with complementary miso soup. Lots and lots of options. It's in the name but sushi on fire likes to drench their rolls in chili oil. I liked it. Sushi on fire also uses a lot of soy paper for their rolls. It doesn't make a difference to me if they use seaweed paper or soy paper but to some who don't like it read the menu carefully. It's a very narrow restaurant but they make it work. Meter Parking across the street. Lots of bars and nightlife on street. If it's too busy there are two other sushi option nearby including @sushi. read more

We had four sushi rolls between two and while the service and turn around time was impressive, the quality of the food was not there. The price was good, $70 for the four rolls. I wish I took pictures but my mouth was quick to get a taste! Everything here is mouthwatering and delicious. I am very picky about sushi because you can tell how fresh the fish is from taste alone. This is one of my top three favorite sushi spots! Their Yuzu Sake is so fresh and has the perfect amount of tang. We ordered at least four bottles of it! I will have to update the exact rolls we ordered but gosh are they all so good!!!! The salmon carpaccio was melt in your mouth fresh and a must try. We also tried the pineapple sake which was great but Yuzu is still my preference by a landslide. The environment is social and friendly and is a great spot for date night or a fun night out with friends. The service is great despite always being busy when I visit. I also have never had to wait more than 5 minutes even when it is very busy! Just be careful because the bill will add up very quickly if you're not careful. The fish is fresh, and the rolls are big! Also, when you eat there, you get a free miso soup! I always had great service when dining in, and I typically would call in when I ordered for pick up instead of using Uber Eats. I never had any issues with my order, and I think you might save a couple dollars by calling in and ordering directly with them! The restaurant itself is nice; however, it's more casual dining. And then I saw another one! And another.... And another.... And then I saw one crawl into the chili powder condiment... and then there were two inside wrestling each other in the condiment! Their sushi is not like other places where it's basic and tastes familiar, they have a good variation of presenting their rolls to be known as their own compared to others. My husband and I have been here several times over the past two years. Always quick service, good food, and no issues up until our most recent visit on 9/29/24. My husband got the worst case of food poisoning he's ever had from this restaurant. Ironically, we were seated outside, and I noticed that displayed on their window was a notice stating that they had received unsatisfactory scores on their most recent inspection due to employee cleanliness and food being left out too long. Made a quick sushi run with the hubby. I can have sushi any time and any day, all day!! I've been to many (and I mean many) sushi spots. This one was pretty good. They close at 10:00pm and we arrived about 9:15pm. We were greeted by who seemed like the owner & said it was the last call. We were ok with that since we just wanted to get our sushi craving out of the way. My hubby ordered the Las Vegas roll and I the Refreshing roll. Las Vegas roll: he enjoys the baked rolls with cream cheese. He said it was good except it was slightly over-cooked. He said to the point where he couldn't even taste the cream cheese. A little too crispy for his taste. The Refreshing Roll: I love me some yellowtail and if the roll has lemon, even better!!! My roll was good and tasty! Love the lemon slivers on top of each piece. I did wish the size of the rolls were a little bigger, especially for the price. It looked nothing like the picture though, but no big deal, it was really good! They serve complimentary miso soup! Really good and NOT salty like some other places. A big plus is there's actually tofu in the soup!!! And not just a couple but with every spoonful!!! I would come here again if I'm in the neighborhood, but wouldn't go out of my way. I have "my" sushi spot up in La Mirada that no one has quite beat it yet!! We were very surprised at how fresh and soft all the fish tasted! We also loved their drink specials -- for every large beer you order, it comes with two shots of hot sake. Perfect for sake bombs! I used to love this place when I was much younger. We used to frequent it. Coming back 16 years later, I don't know if it's just that I know better now or if it's just that it was never that good. I did also get food poisoning from this place once and chalked it up to the one off. The waiter/hostess/waitress were both in such a poor mood. Whoever the villain is in their stories is truly succeeding, because they look like they hate working there. I don't even care if you want to be rude to me, but your food better be off the chain!!! It was not. We got the Yuttsu roll which was WAY too cold. Yes, I know it's raw but it shouldn't feel straight out the fridge like that. BSC roll was just sort of mushy. The Beach Boy roll was my favorite one, good flavor and textures. We also got the S&J which was also pretty good but nothing to write home about. I have always been a fan of the tempura flakes they use, so glad they've kept up with that. I guess they have their highlights but I'm just not interested in going back. @Sushi down the street is better and worth the wait. read more

Amazing service with amzing food! Best place to get sushi in all long beach! My daughter loved the soft shell crab and udon soup. Grown ups loved the yellowtail and albacore dishes! Superb!
