Came here with my mom after the sushi spot we had driven to turned out to be closed but what a pleasant surprise!! I had Sushi Ran in my to visit spots for years but finally came by and I'm happy I did! Located in a little plaza in Toluca Lake (free parking available, though potentially not plentiful especially during rush times), Ran offers an all day happy hour discount of 20% off items on the menu. Decor is minimal and there's exclusively indoor seating and the place isn't super huge but al this is about on par with the average sushi spot in the Valley. Service was slightly slow but I do think they were short staffed when we went. Crispy rice spicy tuna 4.5-5/5, nicely crispy, tuna is fresh and sauce is well paired, leaves you w slight spice in your mouth Orange blossom 5, nicely lightly spicy and the fish was super fresh, melts in your mouth WB roll 3.5/5, we wouldn't reorder this one. It's slightly more spicy than the orange blossom but the actual issue for me was that the scallops were too large on top of the sushi pieces?? It's possible that the issue might have been they were slightly less fresh as they didn't melt in my mouth like traditional scallops do read more

Ordered sushi lunch from sushi ran through GrubHub. The spicy scallop roll was very good. The spicy tuna on crispy rice was very VERY oily, but the tuna was flavorful. The caterpillar roll had fake crab on the inside that was super sweet and the fish did not taste fresh. Also, they did not include the sauce we requested or ginger or wasabi. Lesson learned. Tiny hole in the wall with chill ambiance and amazing food. We got it to go because they don't deliver to the Hilton Universal. No matter, it look less than 10 min to get there. Read the negative reviews about service with the short haired lady. She was there when I got there and even though she looked busy, she glanced at me and quickly said hello. A younger looking man came to help, they finished getting my order and that's all I can say about the location. Now the food, we got a dragon roll, big tuna roll I think and I forgot the last one but will post photos. Seaweed salad, mussels, and egg rolls. The salad was refreshing, 4 piece egg rolls were small but delicious, crunchy and very well made. The mussels looked like they had a lot of the mayo topping but it was just the perfect amount. Haven't had better mussels anywhere else. All the rolls were delicious. I don't normally eat crab rolls because they all taste the same to me. At this location it tastes fluffy and light. Stopped by this restaurant for a late dinner on Friday. My husband and I were seated promptly and our waitress was quick at taking our order. We were originally going to get a large sashimi plate and some roles, but decided to go for the medium plate of sashimi and ramen. The sushi chef must of heard us talking about their specials that they gave us a complimentary sample of one of the items, which was a yuzu fish sauce based salmon sashimi. It was really tasty. I've come here a few times now. Small strip mall sushi joint, looks like a lot of them. Staff is very friendly, chefs too. Very low key whhich I like. I always get a Chirashi bowl, which is quite good here. Also they have a Sashimi Bi Bim Bap bowl, which is quite interesting, and cheaper, very affortable. I recommend it! Also good saki. I just came from picking up a take out order from Sushi Ran. Usually a nice and quick experience. Today, the waitress was rude when I was trying to say Hello. Then rude when I asked a question.
