Came in for all you can eat sushi while visiting SD. Good prices for AYCE and great selection. Visited on a Thursday night and quickly sat, small paid parking lot nearby and metered street parking available. For our spread we shared the gyoza, shrimp shumai, mixed tempura, edamame, baked mussels, and seaweed salad. For sushi and rolls we got the salmon, yellowtail, albacore, In n Out spicy rolls, Scott albacore, and honeymoon roll. Everything was delicious, fresh, and we definitely ordered too much food. Service was great, staff was friendly and everything came out quick. Food didn't hit the same as my hometown AYCE spot but still tasty.

First off, I have to say our server truly exceeded our expectations. She was attentive, constantly checking in on us, and super helpful when it came to deciding what to order. Highly recommend asking for Jin--she made the whole experience even better. We went with the AYCE option, and everything was delicious. The avocado and jalapeño bombs were amazing, and I believe it was called the "Roll Land Roll"--so good! The miso soup, cucumber salad, and seaweed salad were also a great touch and really complemented the meal. Definitely coming back!

This place always seems hectic. Our server was great. The miso soup was served with metal spoons that were lava hot. Not good. The sushi was very good. I didn't appreciate the $1 up charge for a soy wrap rather than seaweed. Nickle and dime stuff. They have the really real wasabi. $5 for a good helping and so worth it. They have an all you can eat and a regular menu so they fit the bill for just about everyone.

Sushi Roll Land (Hillcrest, San Diego) is a solid go-to if you're looking for value and variety. First off, parking is validated, which is always a win in Hillcrest. The location itself is clean, spacious, and comfortable, and when I went on a weeknight there was no wait at all--super easy, low-stress dining experience. The best part of the night was the service. Cole was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, which really set the tone. Everything also came out very quickly, which I appreciated especially for an all-you-can-eat setup. For $40 AYCE, the variety is honestly impressive. They offer everything from special rolls, tempura rolls, and riceless rolls to nigiri and a bunch of appetizer/kitchen items like jalapeño poppers. It's nice to have options beyond just sushi, especially if you're dining with a group. The sushi itself isn't mind-blowing, but it's good enough for the price, and with so many choices, you won't get bored. One thing to note: the ordering system is a bit confusing at first. They give you three separate order sheets (with 3 rounds each) based on categories, plus a large menu for reference--but the items aren't organized consistently or alphabetically, so it takes a minute to find what you're looking for. Definitely something they could improve. Overall: Great value, fast service, and a comfortable space. Not the best sushi you'll ever have, but for the price and experience, it's absolutely worth it--especially if you come hungry.

I would not recommend coming here if you are looking for quality fish. We did the all you can eat which is priced well. I guess it's cheaper than other places because it's not good. We were all genuinely trying not to gag at a certain point. If all you get are rolls all jazzed up with sauces then you will like this place but stay clear of the nigiri and sashimi. 2 stars are for the service and easy ordering method.

I was in the area and wanted to dine out for some AYCE sushi w/ some friends. It was pretty empty on a Friday afternoon. The ambiance was alright during this time! In order to start, you need your whole party to be there. It was also roughly $50 per person, as a sushi lover-- I do think this is pretty high. You also on my get roughly 3 rounds as well. We ordered a bunch, from sashimi, to nigiri's, and rolls. Out of all the pieces, I think I only really enjoyed the Mackerel nigiri the most. I thought the fish was okay, but I'm also comparing to places that were cheaper and provided the most buttery sashimi. The rice to fish ratio was decent as well. I def would come here again if wanting AYCE, but I might look around. I think I've had more better in the Bay esp for the price. totally understandable though as I was just visiting the city! Lovely staff though, thank you for being patient with our table! I'd still recommend! But also after reading other reviews; yes there were a few flying buggies around that got a little bit in the way. Always room for improvement

I'm a regular here and not the I come by evey month or so but every weekend or bi-weekly. $40 for ayce sushi is a steal and the service is always top notch. Yes is there higher quality sushi in San Diego, sure. But you'll be paying $80-$200 depending where you go. Little Sakana does what it does well, fast sushi to you so they can seat the next table and the next and the next. Sushi roll land, you never feel rushed and the quality is pretty much the same and I've had little Sakana both the Chula Vista and Miramar locations multiple times. Overall every time I bring my Freinds here when they want all you can eat, I've never had one complaint and always had a great experience every time

Taelor P.

Been here a dozen or so times over the last year plus and the quality of fish on the nigiri is not what it once was when I first started coming. But I'll say what really pisses me off is the amount of rice they use in their nigiri, specifically my favorite pieces, the scallop nigiri. If you look at the picture, the vast majority of the piece is all rice, they do this on purpose, so that you fill up faster and eat less. I'm usually able to eat 40+ pieces of nigiri. No problem, here, I can barely eat 20. I don't come for AYCE so I can be served more rice than fish. If you want top quality AYCE sushi from a restaurant and chefs that aren't stingy and over stuff their nigiri with rice, go check out Little Sakana, far superior quality of fish for the exact same price you'd pay here.

All extra wasted food

If I could leave a zero I would. Fly in the soy sauce bottle and when I told them they didn't replace it. Instead they put it on another table and leave it for who ever comes next. All the food was bad and they gave us way too much food. We were too disgusted to keep eating so we stopped and charged us an extra $40.

Some of our choices. All the food was very fresh.

Went here for the first time and was informed about the AYCE! Amazing selections, great service, and very clean. Leo was our server and he was very knowledgeable of everything and helped explain everything about the AYCE. Definitely will be back!

Food was devoured and couldn't even fit the last round! So this spot wasn't too busy for a midweek midday meal. We got seated quickly and server asked if it was our first time at their location to explain how the experience works. Basically you get a few pieces of paper where you can pencil in the quantity of items you want based off their menu. There are three rounds available to order before you get your check but there aren't any max amount of items you can get per round. We started our first round with appetizers and 5 rolls. For our second round we got about 6 rolls and a few more appetizers and called it quits. All rolls were fulfilling and delicious. I would definitely come again. Decent price and variety of drinks available as well.

Julianna M.

We came here for dinner while visiting San Diego and did their all you can eat sushi. They have set up. little differently from other places, instead of a time limit they have 3 rounds where each round you can order as much as you like. I think that this set up makes it harder to gage how much you can eat before maxing out on rounds. The fish was fine quality for all you can eat. I did however find a bug on my plate which they took care of immediately. We can on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy but we were seated quickly. The service was very very friendly and accommodating.

I had debated whether to reserve upstairs or downstairs and ultimately chose upstairs and I was happy with that decision for the two of us, as it was a bit more relaxing and I liked the decor. There was however, a large table of about 8 people in the center of the room that were quite noisy. Downstairs definitely had a more 'hustle bustle' atmosphere with large booths and a long sushi bar. (There is also some outdoor 'Covid' style seating). We ordered sake, a couple of sushi rolls and negiri. They were kind enough to supply a complimentary birthday ice-cream dessert with a candle. Service was very attentive and as we passed the sushi bar on the way out, staff behind the bar waived goodbye. Parking: We were able to park near First and Laurel streets for free on a Saturday afternoon. A very classy sushi place. I definitely recommend a visit for a special occasion or perhaps if visiting nearby Balboa Park or the Old Globe Theater. Helpful?

Booking was easy through their website. When we arrived around 6:30, and there were still a handful of open tables so reservations may not always be necessary, but it's probably still a good idea. Our server was phenomenal and really elevated the experience. She gave great recommendations and even let us sample both the Cabernet and Merlot when we couldn't decide on a bottle of wine. We ordered a variety of dishes: * Spicy Edamame: very flavorful, but definitely on the spicy side so be warned if you're sensitive to heat. * Fire Fire Roll: light and fresh fish, but the seared salmon flavor didn't really stand out. * Orange Roll: also light and fresh, but I didn't really pick up the citrus/lemon zest element. A bit underwhelming compared to expectations. * Salmon Belly Nigiri: very fresh and a favorite at the table. * Crab Roll Special: generous portion of fresh crab. * Yuzu Cheesecake: served with three spoons to share. It tasted like a classic cheesecake, pleasant, but I didn't really get a distinct yuzu flavor. The space is cute and conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Overall, the atmosphere is laid-back and comfortable. While the rolls themselves are fairly simple and not especially standout, everything tasted fresh and the service was excellent, which made the experience enjoyable.

We were first to enter and it was clear immediately that omakase is this restaurants institution; delicate lighting that highlighted the bar that separated diner and chef, clean lines everywhere, and just overall a beautiful place. The theme of Sushi MARU is truly attention to detail, and that extends from arrival, to service, to, of course, the food. Staff were incredibly attentive and easy to talk to, including the chefs. The food, I will comment on just generally as the menu is constantly changing (as is the case with many omakase): each dish was composed of pieces that complemented each other well and created a cohesive flavor pallette. Each nigiri was artfully prepared that emphased the quality and cut of the fish, and were complemented by flavors to further highlight that. The flow of the evening was non-traditional omakase, but it felt perfect. Price ($180pp) is not for the faint of heart, but is cheaper than others I've seen. It is not surprising as this Michelin 1 star since 2021 is quite the tiny, yet comfortable setting that continues to get high praise. Unlike several of the other Michelin guide or Michelin Star sushi establishments, they offer more than just Omakase. While the do offer Full Omakase for $189, Nigiri Omakase for $140, and Petite Omakase for $65, they also allow you to order nigiri, sashimi along with multiple other specials and cut rolls. On our first walk in experience, we ordered the Petite Omakase which included 4 seasonal dishes, 6 pieces of sushi, a light fish broth, and a small dessert, we also ordered some add-on sushi. On our first reservation here, we opted for the Full Omakase, which was absolutely amazing. The service and partnership between the sushi chef and the wait staff was fantastic and every interaction was well thought out. The appetizer wasn't my cup of tea, but the sashimi, nigiri, grilled fish, chawanmushi were really good. The assortment of fish (at least for this season) wasn't my favorite (featuring sardines, mackerel, etc.) when I would have loved some yellowtail and salmon belly. We ordered a negitoro cut roll a la carte because we were still a little hungry - this was super tasty as the quality of the tuna/toro is top notch. For dessert, they had 4 flavors of homemade ice cream to pick from. The sesame was incredible and the roasted green tea really good too. I feel like most of the omakase I've been to have 2-3 seating for dinner, so all the customers for that time arrive at the same time and everyone is at the same point of the omakase. At Soichi, it seems like each party has their reservation at a different time (4:30, 4:45, 5:00, etc.) so each group is at a different part of their meal, not to mention some parties that ordered a la carte or a different omakase menu (sushi only option, etc.) As a result, the chef is bouncing around working on a bunch of different items, and we had to wait quite a bit for each of our nigiri courses. The whole meal took 2.5 hours. We also felt less of that group vibe with other parties that is common in other omakases. Overall, we still had a really lovely time and glad we got to try it!,

There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

The sashimi champaloo came with 12 pieces of sashimi, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and the fish of the day was albacore. For rolls, we got the Luna Lemon, Maru's Sushi Toro, and Hamachi Hiro. The rolls were a good size and I loved how each had a fun twist (but at the same time not TOO crazy with their combinations like some other sushi places). You can tell it was designed with intention and each roll had a nice balance. The Luna Lemon roll was great with spicy tuna inside, salmon outside, and the soy dressing and shallot oil put it over the top. The Maru's Sushi - Toro roll looked so good in the photos so I knew we had to order it. The negitoro was delicious and did not disappoint. The Hamachi Hiro roll was hearty and loved the combination of yellowtail outside the shrimp tempura in the inside. We were blown away by how fast the service is. We knew it was popular and it was recommended to make reservations well in advance which we did. When you get to the hostess stand on ground level, she greeted us warmly and directed us to the elevator that would take us to Lumi. Once at the top, you're greeted by the Lumi staff to check you in. As you get to view the roof top, there are lots of tables, a strategically placed bar, some fireplace tables, comfortable seating, a live DJ, and beautifully done murals and deco. Very tasteful! The food was amazing and so fresh! If you don't like sushi, Lumi has a lot of dishes that would also accommodate your palette. Appetizers, sushi, and drinks were all great. Prices is a little high but keep in mind that you're also paying for the experience! The staff were all friendly and our host Becky was so sweet and attentive! She checked in on us regularly and gave us great recs! Highly recommend!
