The fish here is very fresh! Sashimi is great. We enjoyed the hamachi carpaccio the most. Super refreshing, tangy, and crunchy with asian pear. The panic roll wasn't our favorite, we could've definitely passed on that. We wanted something unique rather than a basic roll, so we chose this because it seemed fun plus we love spice! However, the roll just tasted like sauce. Not much going on. I personally like being able to taste the quality of the fish, but the sauce was a too much. Definitely recommend if you like saucy rolls though. Curry was a bit on the more liquid side. We're a bit use to more of a thickened consistency, but it was still good. The rice and curry ratio was a little bit off, much more sauce and meat than rice for sure. I got the poke bowl with both salmon and tuna. It was really refreshing! I loved the mango in it. I've always love this little hidden gem in the uptown area . I got invited to have an after work cocktail with a friend / and yes I was so excited about getting to chill and relax after a long day of work !! We sat at the bar and had a very nice glass of Chardonnay ( quite an interesting selection for a sushi restaurant !! My friend had to go back to work but I decided to stay and finished my wine while speaking with Ana. She assisted me through some of the deep fried rolls and suggested the Crazy boy !! I just landed and needed food! This place was just a 10 min walk from where I was staying, so I hit the pavement. For starters I had the crispy Brussels and deep fried beef dumplings. Lunch with my nieces at Sushi Sakana turned out to be a tasty and satisfying midweek treat. The space itself is casual with a covered porch for outdoor seating when weather permits. Service was nice, albeit a bit slower than I would have preferred. For the meal, I ordered the Gyudon--a savory beef bowl over rice that really hit the spot. My elder niece went the sushi route...taking our servers recommendation for two rolls--the Firecracker (a cooked roll) and the Spicy Kiss (no rice roll). She mentioned that the Firecracker was more to her liking, but both were filling. The younger girls split a chicken teriyaki bento box, which ended up being plenty of food for the two of them. Great value on that front! We also shared a couple appetizers--softshell crab and one of my personal favorites, fried squid legs (aka Ika Geso Karaage). They prepare it a bit crispier and chewier than what I'm used to at other Japanese spots, but I still enjoyed it enough. Pro Tip: Parking can be a hassle at this location since there aren't any garages immediately nearby. Some of the lots in the area seem a little shady--I've seen reviews where people paid and still got towed. I decided to play it safe and just grabbed an Uber. My experience at Sushi Sakana was mixed. The table service was good--our waitress was kind, attentive, and kept our drinks refilled throughout the meal. We ordered the Tempura Appetizer, Ahi Tower, Geisha Roll, Wild Alaskan Roll, a 3-piece hand roll, and the Bulgogi dish. Overall, the food was decent. I especially enjoyed the tempura and the Ahi Tower with salmon. However, there were a couple of disappointments. One of the hand rolls listed as "Real Crab" on the receipt appeared to contain imitation crab. While I don't necessarily have an issue with imitation crab being used, labeling it as "Real Crab" feels misleading. The bigger issue was the Geisha Roll. Based on both the menu description and photo, we expected a rice-less roll wrapped in salmon. Instead, the roll was wrapped in soy paper (which was not mentioned in the description) and topped with salmon. The proportions were also heavily skewed toward the crab mixture, with very little avocado or egg. Visually and texturally, it was quite different from what was advertised. I tried a piece hoping it would taste better than it looked, but it simply wasn't what I expected. We politely informed our waitress that the roll was not as described and returned it. What turned a minor food disappointment into a negative experience was what happened afterward. Once the roll was taken back, the sushi chefs openly complained about us in Korean, apparently assuming we wouldn't understand what they were saying. In a quality restaurant, customer feedback should be handled professionally. If there was confusion about why the item was returned, I would have appreciated someone asking for clarification rather than making negative comments within earshot of customers. The service from our waitress was excellent, but the inaccurate menu description and the unprofessional reaction to feedback left a poor impression overall. read more

Was looking for a good sushi place that I hadn't been to before and came across this place. It's pretty small on the inside, but that makes for a great quiet and intimate date place. Service was pretty good and quite quick for several rolls. The rolls were surprisingly really good! Some of the better sushi rolls that I've had compared to other places. They are pretty good on price for the amount that you get for the roll. I thought the rolls were pretty big! They also do a whole lot of to-go orders for the people living real close by. I was in the mood for a chirashi bowl since I was craving something cold for dinner given the hot weather and discovered this place while doing a Google search for Japanese restaurants nearby that offered a chirashi bowl on their menu! It was a Saturday so I called to make a reservation for me and my friend since we weren't sure how busy it would be (especially given the high star ratings), and I was surprised that we were able to book a reservation with only a few hours in advance. When we arrived around 6:30p the restaurant was pretty empty except for maybe 2-3 other parties and we were seated immediately at a table with a makeshift paper "placard" with my handwritten name and reservation time on it. It was an overall very enjoyable experience and would definitely recommend and come back again! 5/5 FOOD I ordered the cucumber salad and chirashi bowl and both were perfect for the hot weather! The cucumber salad was SO REFRESHING and had the perfect crisp crunchy texture with just the right amount of dressing/seasoning to complement but not overpower. My friend had also ordered the cucumber salad and agreed that it was really good. The chirashi bowl had generous portions of various fresh sashimi over rice (seasoned with nori komi furikake) but I don't think there was anything special/exceptional about it that made it stand out from other chirashi bowls I've had at other Japanese restaurants. Nevertheless, it was still very delicious and definitely satisfied my chirashi bowl craving! There was an overwhelming selection of sushi rolls and the menu was overall varied enough that I had made a comment to my friend that we would have to come back to try more of their menu items. The menu pricing seemed pretty standard and didn't raise any red flags for me. Overall the food was very good and I would definitely come back! 5/5 AMBIENCE/SERVICE The restaurant was much smaller than I had anticipated but despite this, it did not get crowded even though my friend and I came around "peak" dinner time on a Saturday. The overall atmosphere was nice and quiet and I had no issues with having a conversation with my friend. The establishment was very clean and organized, although I did not use their bathroom so cannot comment there. Staff were very friendly and I did not have any issues with having the bill split nor being able to get some takeout boxes to bring home leftovers. 1/5 PARKING There's an open paid parking lot across the street (?pay by the hour) but it had shady reviews so my friend and I decided to take Uber to get to the restaurant since there are no other nearby parking places. Amazing experience, highly recommend! If there's only one check, you can fill out their ordering page by marking your selections. If you have separate checks, they'll take the orders individually. We went with a big group and that worked fine. The menu is extensive so there's something for everyone, even for those who don't want sushi (they have noodles, fried rice, and other options). A couple of our group had allergies (crab & dairy) and they were super accommodating. I recommend the dumpling soup (it comes in a pork bone broth), spicy edamame, and the dancing fire roll (shrimp tempura, spicy crabmeat, avocado, cucumber topped with boiled shrimp furikake with spicy mayo, eel sauce). We ordered the combo fried rice, salmon tower, volcano roll, and one other roll. We ate essentially all of the latter 3 dishes. This was a strange experience. "Sushi" being in the name of the restaurant, I anticipated that would be the highlight of my experience. I was proven otherwise. A lot of the sushi-adjacent aspects of this meal were great, but the sushi was not. I came in for lunch and had a sushi/sashimi bento. The fish - 2/5 Unironically the worst part of this meal. While fresh, these were not the best quality ingredients, and it showed. The tuna was lean and tasteless, as was the shrimp. The salmon was decent, but nothing remarkable. If you do decide to come here, I'd actually recommend ordering more of the dishes from the kitchen. The sashimi was sliced in giant blocks, which is not how it is supposed to be served. There was no ginger or wasabi. Gyoza 4/5 - Perfectly fried, but not my favorite flavor combination. Octopus Salad - 5/5 The best part of the meal? A sleeper hit. Lots of flavor going on here. Yelp brought us here and it was a popular place on a Friday night in Jan 2023. Interior and decor are fresh and modern. I like the bright light all around for great foodie pix. Hubby and I share some sushi such as albacore, crab, and sear salmon belly. I got the salmon belly bowl which I have to admit was only okay. It did not taste super fresh. Hubby got the blue crab handroll and he said it was alrighty as well. Indoors, you can sit right next to the chefs making the rolls or at the bar. Beautiful interior design with super comfy seating. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, frequently checking on us and even bringing back a mountain of ginger when our little party of 3 asked for more. We tried the eel and avocado, geisha, rainbow, and shrimp tempura roll. They have regular and cooked rolls, fresh fish, and ones without rice. We particularly loved the geisha and eel and avocado. JUST opened (soft opening), so they don't even have a sign up yet. If you're confused on where to go, they're street-side, across the street from Foxtrot Mark and next to Standard Pour. However, don't let possibly getting lost stop you. It's incredibly fancy and classy inside; it's not very "authentic Japanese" in terms of decor, but if you want to impress a first date, or celebrate an anniversary/special occasion, you probably can't go better than this place (evidenced by all the couples dining here when we went). The interior is immaculate and gorgeous, and I feel as if just sitting in here should cost money. Speaking of which, it's a little pricey, but not unreasonable. They've got a wide assortment of sushi and specialty rolls here, but their menu is diverse, offering selections of donburi, ramen, and teriyakis. I ordered the yakisoba, and while it was delicious, it did taste a little like Chinese tomato jeen mein (fried noodles), which are substantially cheaper. However, the K-Ramen (Korean ramen), tonkotsu ramen, and sushi rolls (geisha, snow, sushi combo, and sushi boat) were delectable and I can't describe all the flavors for each roll. They're so generous with the fish, and don't overstuff the rolls with rice. It was so much food, we felt like we were in sushi heaven. Their staff is friendly yet professional. They were very happy to offer recommendations and take a photo of our group when asked. Because we had a large group, they offered an appetizer and dessert takoyakis on the house. Super generous. Our hostess, Amy, heard it was the birthday of someone in our group, so she brought out a mango cake and sang. What service! Parking might be a bit of an issue but as of now, they validate parking (2hrs) in the parking lot in the rear of the restaurant. It's also a little cramped inside, but there's drinks and sushi bar seating. I'd say that's all the more incentive to beat the inevitable crowds before this place actually has their grand opening and becomes the area's most popping go-to restaurant. I'd strongly recommend this place. It's not just the food but the experience. The staff is incredibly nice and the ambiance is classy too. Again, this is a warning to enjoy a meal here before word gets out and they're packed with people. read more

I found this restaurant on Google and decided to have lunch here before going to the Dallas Museum of Art. I was immediately greeted and sat upon entering. The inside decor was very upscale and elegant. The lunch menu had plenty of options and great deals. I started with the miso soup, which was very flavorful. The sushi was 2 for $14, and I decided on the spicy salmon and shrimp. The salmon was my favorite of the two. The star of the meal was definitely the bulgogi bento box. They are still in soft opening so went in knowing that it may not be perfect. In general they delivered above my expectations. It's a smaller restaurant, pretty and modern, some beautiful fixtures and unlike many sushi establishments, it's brightly lit. The service is very very friendly, they have a few things to iron out, like who does what, knowledge about the menu, but you know what, they acknowledged and apologised for what was lacking and that is good enough for me.
