I personally avoided going here for dinner because I am not sure about where to park without too much hassles. Okay, shocking to say to find ALL YOU CAN EAT sushi and most of all it's in Chicago on Western Ave-- 4750 N Western Ave (after Lawrence and before Lincoln Ave). I have been looking for a place to go and replace my TAMPOPO (when Danny and his mom used to own it-delicious place!) and could never find one that is so good and inexpensive. I am not one of those people who are HIGH END sushi eaters although I go for the flavor and texture but not on the price. I have not done a BYOB but that is a given, I would love to do that. I think I have a place to really enjoy the sushi now and will definitely brings friends to this place. The food is fine. It's cheap sushi, but it is good cheap sushi. This review is about my husband's and my most recent delivery order. We placed an order through GrubHub at 6:51 pm, with an estimated arrival time of between 7:48 and 7:58. At 8:23, we called to ask about our order. We were told that the food was out for delivery, but there were two orders being delivered before ours, and it would be to us within 15 minutes. (This sushi place is only half a mile away from our apartment. A 3 min drive, or a 9 min walk.) At 9:02 pm, our order finally arrives, tempura still hot (although mushy). Our order was clearly not out for delivery at 8:23 pm, and Sushi Tokoro made no effort to compensate us for their mistake in forgetting our order. And in fact, our order did not include chop sticks, soy sauce, or napkins. Since we had already included tip, we could not retroactively not include a tip for waiting for two hours for sushi--a traditionally fast meal. Let me just say that this place is one of my FAVORITE sushi places in Chicago! For the price of All You Can Eat, you just CANNOT BEAT IT! 1. Their sushi is usually fresh! I have had times where the sushi wasn't as fresh as I'm use to, but I promise it's still amazing. I highly recommend their Salmon and Eel Nigiri. Another great roll is their Volcano roll. It does feel heavy so warning, order one at a time! 2. This place is BYOB! 3. The food comes out FAST. You would be shocked how fast it comes out when it's packed in there! Their workers are MACHINES!!! On top of that, their presentation with the boats are BEAUTIFUL. 4. I love the fact that they let you order as much ice cream as you like at the end! This is definitely our new sushi bar of choice. My fiancé and I have been waiting for it to open and it was worth the wait! First and foremost the service was outstanding. That's so critical to a good experience. We ordered the all you can eat because we wanted to try everything. We ordered the Chicken Tempura roll, the Crazy Tuna, the Spicy Salmon. By far the crazy tuna was the best. It as the perfect blend of creamy and spicy. I highly recommend you get it. The Chicken Tempura was a new twist on a classic roll. Both my fiancé and I really liked it. The chicken is very savory and unlike shrimp you don't have to worry about a tail. You just pop the whole piece in your mouth and enjoy. We also ordered several pieces of classic nigari. The pieces were good size and very flavorful. My one complaint is they dress the fish and with the tuna the dressing masked the flavor. A good piece of fish has a flavor all its own and my opinion is it shouldn't be messed with. That one issue aside I really look forward to exploring the menu and finding many new and wonderful rolls. So this review is based on the two times I have gone here and both vary. The first was about 4-6 months ago and my guest and I took advantage of the AYCE Sushi deal during the weekday. It was great as you are allowed to order apps as well! Add the BYOB and this place was gleaming with a 5 Star review!! Fast forward a few months later to last week (early May) and unfortunately I felt the Fish was not fresh. I'm not sure how often they have their fish delivered but on this day (Weds) of the week, it was not. The service was fine and it's really a fun place to go with a group. I'll go again down the line but do hope I have a better experience next time! Parking on Western is plentiful either on the same side of the street as ST or across the street. Another all you can eat sushi buffet yey!!! Similar prices as most sushi buffet goes about $20 dollars. But like most these places get packed on weekends so best to try to avoid those times if you want to get your food fast. I came on a Wednesday night where it wasn't crowded and food came at a great pace. The roll seem typical as any other ayce sushi places. The quality of fish they had was moderate as well and since I went on a none packed night might of been the reason for not so much packed rice in my sushi. Came here on a recommendation from a friend and was sadly disappointed. My family came here to enjoy the all-you-can-eat lunch special and had starved ourselves an entire morning to make room for lunch. My brother and I started off with a plate of 4 rolls each first. The rolls were undoubtly tasty, but they were more rice compared to fish, or stuffed with a bunch of other veggies than fish. We got stuffed after eating our one plate because of how much rice was in one roll. Some rolls I had to eat in two bites (gasp) because they were too large to eat in one bite, so you can kinda imagine how ridiculous the rolls were. Additionally, I struggled to eat half of my plate which is odd considering that I was starving and attempting to inhale food as fast as I could before I passed out form starvation. I had to pawn off a couple rolls to my father who helped me out. After eating that plate, I questioned if I should even order more considering how full I was already feeling. We were thinking if this restaurants idea was to stuff us with rice so that we couldn't eat any more (smart move). Disappointed that it had to come to this and it made me wish I just ordered a ton of nigiri instead. Funny side-note was that while we were there struggling to finish our plates, we watched as the couple beside us order a plate of nigiri after another plate, and just eat the fish and pushed the rice to the side. They would order 4 pieces at a time, nibble some rice, then push the rest away, and repeat the process. For those experienced in all-you-can-eat sushi, this is considered a no-no, but they kept doing this and received no penalty for it! Halfway through our meal, my family realized we should have played risky and done this as well... Easy to say that we will not be coming back. All-you-can-eat sushi here comes at a steep price that is not worth the little amount of sushi you can force down in one sitting. read more

Overall, the service was great and the food was really, really, good BUT it was really disappointing to lift the fish off of a a nigiri and find out that they don't put a tiny dab of horseradish (you know the wasabi copy) on the rice. This means, that these sushi chefs just make a ball of rice and place the fish on it. It would really be nice to know that the sushi chefs hold on to the main traditions of Japanese sushi making. The traditions that hold on to care and perfecting. It's the little techniques that count and make a difference... Hope the changes are made. Again, a really good restaurant... Came for lunch AYCE sushi special. Never coming back 1. Price on website said $16.95/adult, but they recently changed it to $17.95 without updating the site, and wouldn't honor the advertised price. Kids AYCE (5 year old) was $6.99. Both prices are a bit on the high side, but still decent overall. 2. Service was pretty poor, as it is at almost all $$ sushi joints. It may be a cultural thing but nonetheless, as a former server, I am highly disappointed and wanted to tip accordingly, but they automatically charge 18% gratuity. I told the manager that's not legal and that I wanted to tip my own amount and he said he couldn't change it without the owner (who, of course, wasn't there). This is basically robbery because these servers didn't earn more than a 10% tip, if that. 3. Spicy tuna and salmon rolls were good, and came filled with scallions and crunch, and topped with masago on top, but had way too much rice. Definitely wouldn't come back. I'd rather drive an hour out to Algonquin for Sushi King II and their much better AYCE sushi. read more

Last minute idea to grab sushi on a Tuesday night. I really liked the vibe of the place. It wasn't too crowded and the service was EXCELLENT!! They were attentive without being pushy. The place has a Korean influence (shown by all the small dish appetizers prior to receiving the main course) My friend and I both decided to get the dinner special (with 3 rolls and 2 sashimi pieces). I got the Godzilla, Fuji Mountain and the Green River rolls. She had the Kiss on Fire, Tokoro and King Kong rolls. We both ordered Unagi and Whitefish as our sashimi. Food was delicious. The only complaint we had to get up get our own plates to our guest that came a little later. We waved to several different waitresses and each time no one saw us. That was a bit annoying. Therefore their rolls aren't tight enough and tend to fall apart and the rice is slightly undercooked. That said, I think it has a lot of potential. The staff is extremely pleasant. The food (aside from the aforementioned) is very tasty. And, they offer all-you-can-eat at all hours. All good things. This is our new AYCE (all you can eat) sushi spot in the city! It's $22 per person for dinner, which is very fair. Free refills on sodas for only $1.50 as well! Service was on point and was never lacking. Sushi Tokoro doesn't load up their sushi with rice, like other AYCE sushi places we've been to in the city, which is a pleasant surprise. The fish they used was also very good quality. Boyfriend loves nigiri, and his favorites were the white tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, and the squid nigiri. I gravitate more towards maki rolls and our favorite was surprisingly the Volcano roll (which is deep-fried, even though it doesn't say on the menu). We also throughly enjoyed the Rock n Roll and the Crazy Tuna roll! We also special requested no cream cheese in our maki rolls and hand rolls of the spicy salmon! They will honor your request for hand rolls, but our waitress said it needed to be a maki roll with only six (6) pieces, which is fine, since we always get either spicy tuna or spicy salmon anyways. Appetizers: we got the shu mai (i love a good crab meat imitation shu mai!), gyoza and house salads. The house salads were loaded with dressing but was otherwise gingery and fresh! Service: decently fast given the amount of diners. I've definitely had to wait longer for my orders before. Food: this was pretty standard as well. Selection isn't different from other places, but that's not a bad thing at all. The only the thing I saw with some rolls was that there was some that had... Generous amounts of rice included. I mean, eh, it's AYCE, and they gotta make money right? Not great, but not a deal breaker. Watermelon at the end was a nice touch. Overall I'd say it was a pretty pleasant experience.
