A Korean owned sushi spot. They serve Korean panchan before your meal. expect some pickled radish, peanuts, and potato salad. I come for the buffet. They serve a lunch and dinner buffet with the same menu, but different pricing. They charge for wasted food, but I've lucked out a few times- once for a valiant effort at finishing (we left a roll's worth of food) and another time, because we were there when the restaurant was closing. They legit will wait longer to let you finish the food, rather than just let you take it home. They'll wait for you to finish, then throw the rest away. just so you've been warned. But the sushi's good. Gets the job done. Pretty ambience, pretty plates. not amazing sushi, but nothing horrible. the buffet menu will give you a wide variety of things. appetizers like miso soup, shumai, and fried scallops (yum!) They've got nigiri (sad that there was no scallop one), though they did have super white tuna. And they've got plenty of rolls. Warning. don't think the 5pc rolls are smaller than the 8 pc. some of these, especially the fried ones, are just bigger pieces! if you've got the time, definitely order a few at a time, and add on as necessary. But I do like them. They've never failed, and I leave full. no bad experiences. A nice variety of rolls with different ingredients, although I personally like ones that are heavy on the sauces, and on adding different ingredients. you'll get more of the fresh and standard traditional rolls here. I never write negative reviews but I would not recommend this place to anyone. In fact, I would warn them against it. The service and food was not worth even the cheap prices that they charge. I don't know how they have 4 stars. The sushi was very weird tasting (probably not fresh) and just fell apart. Even the edamame was undercooked. My husband and I didn't even eat half of what we ordered. And I HATE wasting food. The service wasn't great either. It took a long while before we were greeted by a waiter and the person that served us had a strong, unpleasant body odor that made me immediately lose my appetite. Lastly, the atmosphere really left something to be desired. Not a fan of the pop music and bland interior. It's such a great location and it's not being used to it's potential. The one thing I will say is that one tall man at the front taking care of pick-up orders was really professional and even took care of us when he had a lot of other things going on. Literally my go to spot for a decently priced all you can eat style meal. I like their rolls really much. With the plain tuna and salmon rolls you are able to really taste the fish because they are plentiful in meat. Spicy salmon and tuna rolls with tempura crunch bring a nice note of texture and flavor with them. Philadelphia roll so rich and creamy. Fish quality is not great. I can't really explain it but it seems to be processed and fattened up. It's not a texture you associate with fresh fish. It wasnt too mushy but the texture is just off ! They're generous with their sashimi, and the fish to rice portion is the best in Chicago for AYCE sushi. They're consistent even after we order 8 boats full of sushi. We came here for lunch. It was all you can eat and we ordered several types of sushi rolls. We were debating on ordering another appetizer in addition to the rolls, but decided not to in the end. I'm glad we didnt because by the time we were done, we were full. I tried to order something to drink besides water and their only offerings were soda/fountain drinks. While seated you can watch some of the staff create the rolls behind the counter. If you are a larger group they will present the sushi rolls in a large wooden boat. We also got a smaller boat version and I thought it was a neat way to present the sushi. In my opinion some of the rolls were tasty and good while others I didn't really care for. Some of them were quite large and definitely required multiple bites. I think they contained a larger ratio of rice compared to fish and/or veggies. There were quite a lot of AYCE choices (including sashimi and appetizers). The selections you make are brought over in a large sushi boat. It even included a small, blue light to make the tray look more visually interesting. It's the little touches like that I love. The salmon sashimi, white tuna sashimi, and octopus sashimi were all simple and fresh. The makes (I forgot which ones we ordered, honestly) were all delicious. I wouldn't say they are exceptionally unique (e.g. Sunda), but they were well made. LOCATION: There was plenty of parking on a Sunday night (free street parking on Western on Sundays). Also, the restaurant wasn't too busy so my friend and I were seated as soon as we arrived for our dinner reservation. SERVICE. We were given menus as soon as we were seated, our water glasses were never left empty, and we were asked if we would like to order more food throughout the night. It was a Friday night and we arrived there a little before 6:30pm. Surprisingly they were able to seat us right away. Maybe half an hour later a bunch of people started coming and the entrance area became full. So glad we made it before the rush! I had their crab rangoon and miso soup to start. The crab rangoon was so good I wanted another order. We had 4 rolls, with the King Kong Roll being my favorite. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. For dessert we had ice cream and some sort of fried banana tempura. I finished the ice cream first before the tempura came out but it would have been delicious on top. I've been to two AYCE sushi restaurants in Chicago, and Sushi Tokoro was the first. Basically when you google AYCE sushi, this restaurant pops up for a reason. The sushi is just delicious. The restaurant is fairly popular around the area, and hence don't expect to be seated immediately, specially during the weekend. I went there on a Saturday night with my boyfriend and our wait time was basically 30 - 40 minutes. Unlike the other AYCE sushi restaurant, this place offers limited selections on both the lunch and dinner menus. You don't get to enjoy all the special rolls and appetizers, and it is priced at 16.95$ per person for lunch and 21.95$ per person for dinner. Best part? It's BYOB. Once you are seated, a few small tasting plates are brought to your table while you take your time to order. Based on your order, it might take another 20 minutes or so for it to arrive, but once it does, its comes out all at once in a huge boat. The waitress took her time to explain what each roll was and made sure we had enough napkins and water at our table. The fish tasted really fresh and the rolls are not too heavy on the rice. The rolls are also sized perfectly, so if you got it in you, you can definitely go for a second round. Once you are done, you have a couple of dessert options that you can choose from. We got the ice cream and that sugar rush was worth every spoon. They sometimes bring out fruit if you're into that too. We got watermelon slices that night. The only reason why I'm giving this place 4 stars is because of the service. When we walked in, there was no hostess in site, and it took about 5 minutes before a waitress realized we were new customers and tried to get us a table. Every time I try to get a group of friends to go for AYCE sushi, it seems like 50 new options pop up. I remember when AYCE sushi started in Chicago when the House of Sushi was the staple. There weren't that many opens back then. Then Sushi Para came along and that's when things started getting crazy. Up came Sushi Para D, M, A, B, C, Z, AA, AB, AC....too many to count. Out of all the AYCE places I've tried, though, I think Ringo is my favorite. Sushi Tokoro had quick and nice service which is ABSOLUTELY key if you want to make the most of your AYCE experience. The appetizer options were limited but tasty. The quality of the fish is pretty much on par with all the other sushi AYCE places your friends recommend to you. There are plenty of options of nigiri and specialty rolls. However, if you have been to a sushi AYCE before, you end up really only ordering out of your 3-4 favorite rolls. So why do I like Ringo more? Honestly, it's a close comparison. I haven't been to Ringo in a while so things may have changed, but Ringo had a lot more appetizer choices and ice cream that helped break up the rice and fish monotony. In the end, I've always thought AYCE sushi is about the experience with close friends, sharing a gluttonous meal, and playing rock-paper-scissor to see who gets to eat the last pieces of sushi since you will ALWAYS over-order. read more

Start: Banchan Round 1: Appetizer of your choice - the fried stuff is fried upon ordering, this means it's hot and crunchy. Round 2: Sushi - order a lot and it comes on a boat. So be prepared! Gas station quality sushi. By far the worst sushi place I've had in Chicago. The fish was not fresh, chewy, and had endless veins/strings. Avocados were completely black (old and dry), and the rolls had too much rice to the point that it extinguished the fish taste. Most rolls (70%) have imitation crab, and it's not worth the price. The AYCE menus contain only regular rolls that can be ordered for $5 each without paying for AYCE. In conclusion, not a good value, taste, or quality. I will never go back. read more

I've always had a pleasant experience at Sushi Tokoro, but my most recent visit with my friends was very disappointing. My friends were excited to try the ayce sushi. We ended up ordering a little more than we can handle, also noticed some things that we didn't order (like mackerel nigiri) was on our plate, but we didn't mind because we were willing to pay for the leftovers. However, as we were eating the waiter pointed to my plate and said I had to finish all the rice. I had two rice nigiri pieces left on my plate. I told him we are aware of the leftover policy. But he kept insisting that I eat all my rice. Which was very rude. Who likes being harassed like a little kid while eating? We wanted to order dessert and handed him the order sheet. He looked at our order then said we couldn't get dessert until we finished our food. It felt like we were being chastised. We were a little dumbfounded. Visited with my cousins during the all you can eat hour for around $20. I'm really picky with sushi and this one hit the spot. Every roll that we ordered was good and we also got edamame and crab rangoon. The boat made it all the more better. One of the biggest pet peeves of mine with sushi places is the amount of rice in each nigiri (especially AYCE; cant eat that much hue hue). Not that great of an AYCE selection for sushi. Service was very attentive and met our demands. However, there was nothing special about the rolls. I am however impress that the fish on top is bigger than the amount of rice accompanied by it. Many places would have more sushi rice underneath the eel or salmon but for this place, it was the opposite. I was hoping for more unagi sauce to be drizzled on top of the eel. I came hungry and left full but not the good kind of full. I think what made it the worst part of my experience is how much rice was stuff in the roll (see images). The fiance is a big fan of sushi, and AYCE is usually a big selling point to her. To me too, though I'd pretty much gotten sick of the average quality found at the popular Sushi Para chain. I do still think it's better from what I remember of the old Todai, RIP. I suggested Tokoro as a chance to try something that would hopefully dethrone Para for our mass sushi needs. It's a good deal further for us but Yelp was telling us good things. The first surprise - banchan? The traditional various small Korean dishes served pre-meal. Always nice to have something to snack on before the main event. The next surprise - the fish actually overlapped the rice. Just visually seeing that we weren't just being plumped up on rice was pleasing, though I heard from my voracious cousin that if you really start to dig in, they wise up and add more. And the quality really was much better than other AYCE places we've been to. My test was the mackerel, which can be too metallic and sour, but here it was pleasant.
