Sushi Town is a nice place because they offer professional, prompt service. I order the tuna sashimi (to go as take out) and, it is a great deal because the price point versus quality. I always enjoy my excuisite cuisine at a fair price. May I recommend the tuna sashimi. I like to dip it in soy sauce and put some wasabi on the delicious meat before I take a bite. One of my current favorite sushi spots! I enjoy sitting at the bar and ordering what feels like everything. Every fish is so good and fresh here, I don't even have favorites cause they're really all so good. Love the salmon, Hokkaido scallops, tuna, toro, mackerel, yellowtail, amberjack, sweet shrimp, literally everything!! They have a lot of rolls to choose from as well but we're usually here for the fish. The only roll we really order is the pink Cadillac, which is basically salmon and avocado and jalapeño hehe It's a small restaurant but things have always ran smoothly when I've dined here. Was a little hesitant on coming here because it wasn't busy and the place looked a little run-down. I didn't expect the sushi to be good but boy was I wrong. We ordered practically everything. Was a little disappointed they ran out of uni (but the chef managed to make us an order) and it was mouthwatering. The quality of the sashimi was good and the rice to fish ratio was perfect. The order I disliked was the Maru special roll. There was so much imitation crab meat and mayo was a bit overpowering, so order at your own risk. We also ordered the Hawaiian roll and I loved it (I'm super biased because I enjoy spicy tuna and albacore). I took off a star because the place should be a little more modernized (at least new menus because the ones that were on the tables and given to us looked super worn out and dirty). My fiancée and I were looking for a new sushi place to have dinner because our usual spot is closed on sundays. We found this place on yelp and it was close by to where we were and had good reviews so we decided to give it a try. I was sort of disappointed. When we first sat down, I looked at the menu and was excited because they had a decent selection of sushi rolls as well as nigiri and sashimi. However, I wasn't really feeling sushi anymore and wanted to try their dinner entree menu. I decided to order the seafood ramen. It was a great deal and came with six rolls of the California roll. When the roll came, I noted that the rice was overcook with too much water because it was very sticky and sort of mushy. But it wasn't bad. Then they brought out my ramen. It looked like instant ramen that you can get a grocery store. But I was fine with that as long as it had good flavor. The first thing I did was try some of the broth. It tastes like watered down broth. I mean I've had instant ramen that was better than this. It tasted like the used a ramen flavor pack but then accidentally put way too much water in it. I mean it was so bland, it tasted like I was drinking pure water. I had to add three table spoons of soy sauce and ask for salt to give the broth some flavor. It wasn't all bad I guess. The rolls were ok. My fiancée ordered the ninja roll, rainbow roll, and the tiger shrimp roll. They were definitely not the best or even close to the best that I've ever had, but it wasn't bad. My fiancée doesn't normally dip the rolls in sauce. He likes to taste the flavor of each roll individually. But a few of the pieces in his rolls, he had to dip it into soy sauce for some flavor. At least the portions were decent and the prices were cheap. The service was ok also. We got seated right away when we came in because there really wasn't anyone else in the restaurant. We got our menus and the girl brought us drinks right away. We made our selections, but the girl never came back to pick them up. She was in the corner chatting, so my fiancée had to get up and her the paper to her. When she came back, she brought out our rolls. She dropped one of mine, but quickly went to replace it. Then came back to check on us a couple more times. And brought our check out at a decent time and we didn't really have to wait around too long. Long overdue review. My partner at the time lives down the street from here and during Covid we were trying to find a good Sushi place for takeout. The short and sweet: their sushi quality is really good for the price. They have a great selection of no-rice rolls. Their poke bowl is amazing, especially for the price, it's also big enough to share between 2 people. The patio is small but was well social distanced and they did a good job of accommodating everyone. Overall, this is a great sushi spot in the area and I miss their food and the prices all the time. I've eaten at Sushi town at least one a month for the last year or so and its usually pretty good, but there have been times when the service and quality were off...still, I gave them the benefit if the doubt. Tonight was the cherry on my Bummer sundae - and I'll never come back. After a long flight I decided to drop in around 7:30 tonight for dinner. Long story short, the waiter was too busy trying to pick up two adorable ICU students to be bothered with bringing me a lousy glass of water, much less take my order (which consisted of picking up my sushi order card I'd filled out and handing it to the sushi chef). He took their extensive order and literally looked at me, and said "I'll be back in a few minutes to get your order." I was already holding the order card out to him and said "But it's completed already." He snatched it and stomped off. Less than 10 minutes later he began bringing the table who ordered seconds before me their food...while I waited, and waited....and waited. I still didn't even have a glass of water. After the young ladies recieved not only their appetizer, but all of ther sushi AND cooked entres, I literally looked at my waiter and said to myself "He's got 3 minutes to bring me that water or I'm out." Unfortunately, he came in just under the wire with the H2o =/ My hand roll was finally delivered just as the ICU students received their bill. I order the same handroll every.single.time I'm there, and while I love spicey, this was simply inedieble - it was packed with Jalapeno. I even tried removing the scallops and rinsing them off in the soy sauce because my waiter absolutley refused to come over when I tried to wave him down. When that didnt work, I simply tossed in the towel (and the nasty hand roll) and waited for my rolls to arrive. The first was okay, but the second was A) NOT what I ordered - so when my waiter ignored me again, I though "What the heck - I'll try something new - I might like it"...unfortunately, I do not like funky gym socks soaked in vinegar. One piece and I literally had to spit it out. When he did bring my bill for $30 and change, he didn't ask how things were or anything. I'm pretty sure he knew. I wrote "Worst meal & service ever - 2 of 3 items totally inedible" across the top and he got a big fat ZERO for a tip, something I have never done in my entire life. Of course he bum rushed the register as I appraoached, so I asked politely to speak to the manager. "Write your number down - I'll have him call you" was his response. I'd had it at this point and said "No, I need to speak to him NOW." The manager finally arrived, and even after I conveyed my experience to him all he could do was say "I'm sorry." No offer to remove the charge for the uneaten handroll or the roll which was literally sitting within 10 feet missing one piece they were so bad. I'm pretty pissed that I basically ended up eating a completely mediocre roll, which, after the charges for the two inedible pieces of bait, worked out to $3.75 per bite. As I said: Worst service and food ever. Run!!! PS: if you don't run, please be prepared for the overly aggressive panhandlers...there was one there two weeks ago, with, and I kid you not, a machete parked on the bench at the front door drinking beer. If you're looking for some high quality fish and well crafted rolls, without the steep prices of a top end sushi restaurant, Sushi Town will hit the spot. The affordable segment of the sushi game is probably the hardest segment to get right. Personally, I'm always on the lookout for reasonably priced spots, but the thought of possibly eating sub-par raw fish makes it difficult for me to venture out. But after visiting here the other night, I was pleasantly surprised to find some outstanding values and more importantly, deliciously fresh fish. The first things that comes to mind when I see Korean speaking sushi chefs behind the counter are fancy American-style rolls, along with a hefty dose of skepticism. And judging by the vast majority of the clientele that night, there were no shortage of fancy rolls on display, complete with exotic names and doused with the requisite scallions and teriyaki sauce. But beyond that, their featured specials of the day included suprisingly good cuts of aji and blue fin tuna nigiri. The uni was very reasonably priced at $5.50 and completely solid. Some other pleasant surprises included the generously portioned yellow tail collar and their moderately priced selection of filtered and unfiltered sake. So if you're somewhat of a sushi snob that's looking for an affordable meal, don't dismiss this place just because of it's pedestrian name and odd location. Their menu consists of sushi, as well as lunch and dinner entrees, soups, noodles, salads, and combination plates. Service: We were seated in the back corner, so we were rarely checked on. It was difficult to get our server's attention since we couldn't even see her around the corner! Food: - Sesame Chicken - Marinated and lightly fried in a "special" sauce. This tasted like it was frozen and reheated! It was pretty dry and left a chalky aftertaste. They give a huge portion, but what's the point if it doesn't even taste good! - Dynamite Roll - Baked scallops, crab meat, and giant clams on a California roll, then drizzled with sauce and topped with masago and green onions. There was a LOT going on in this roll. Very filling. - BSAR Roll - Baked asparagus and crab meat with salmon, drizzled with sauce and topped with masago and green onions. Not bad! They gave a generous portion of salmon draping the roll. - House Salad - Comes with a Ginger Dressing. This place is a hidden gem, located in a little shopping center. The rolls are 9 pieces and big. I decided to get the teriyaki dinner special and it came with miso soup. It was delicious and service was outstanding. My son asked the waitress if the roll he was getting was spicy and she said no, after one bite it turns out it was. We told her and with no hesitation she took it back , apologized and asked what other roll he would like. Most places would argue but not this place. Recommend 10/10. read more

I really enjoyed the tempura crunch and the taste of the mushrooms. * King lobster roll | An above average roll with a good crunch and flavor of lobster. It easily fell apart on me so be careful on eating this one. Customer Service: The servers were pro-active and helpful. Boy, did Sushi Town teach me a lesson on judging a book by its cover. Sushi: fresh, tasty, well-dressed. Hesitant to commit to an omakase set, my friend and I ordered a la carte. By the end of the meal, after savoring each tasty little slice of fish we ordered, we knew we had to come back for the omakase one day-- didn't know that day would be the follow week. Rolls: curious if this would be a friendly place for people who don't prefer raw fish, we tried the rolls. These were a few notches better than typical sushi restaurants out there. Not overly drenched in sauce and well-put together. All in all, great food! Service: -1 star. The servers are terrible almost every time I visit but the sushi chefs are pretty fun and lively which slightly improves the experience. My sister and I wanted to try a different place since we've been to a lot of sushi places in the Costa Mesa area. The salmon was nice and buttery and the rolls were pretty good. Next time I will try their sushi dinner if I'm in the area and in the mood for sushi. Parking may be hard for this establishment as the couple of times I've driven in Newport Boulevard, they've always been full. Do anticipate waiting unless you don't mind sitting outside. They put the heat lamp on so it's nice and comfortable. Staff is friendly, quick, and efficient enough. A couple of things I've noticed in some sushi places in the OC, they quit greeting you when they notice you're asian and only greet enthusiastically if you're non-Asian. Not this place! Food is good, service was unfriendly. Came here for dinner one night and wanted to sit outside on the patio. The servers were not happy for some reason and refused to clean the patio for us. We stood and waited for awhile while the servers gave us dirty looks before reluctantly cleaned one of the tables. We ordered a few rolls to share and the food is pretty good, good quality ingredients, and the fish was fresh. Once again, our server was extremely absent, ignored us the entire time except to bring us our food and then disappeared forever. I don't normally leave good referrals like this because I always find fault in some thing. But honestly the fish was completely fresh and one thing I noticed was they didn't pack on the rice which I loved. I ordered A crunch roll with soy wrap, and roll with salmon that had lemon on the top. It was really good really fresh I've been eating sushi for 30 years sorry I can't remember the name of that role. Anyhow my biggest mistake was ordering it through Uber eats and having it delivered because it took Uber over an hour. But with that being said the food was still excellent. Sushi Town is a Small casual sushi restaurant inside of the strip mall. The service is superb and the sushi chef is extremely friendly. This place has a good assortment of fun rolls and all the standard sushi. We had a good time watching the Duke game on their TVs as well as enjoying the friendly sushi chef. We ordered m2 roll, yellowtail sushi, eel roll, salmon roll and tuna roll which came out to be about $36. Food was tasty and the fish was fresh. It's a good place for a quick sushi bite. read more

I've been coming here for about 10 years, but a lot more often in the past two years or so. During that time they have changed ownership and remodeled. Prices have gone up recently just like elsewhere, but this is still a better value than most other places I have found (now if only they would do the same with the price for hot tea...). What I like about this place is their consistency: always friendly, consistently fresh fish, and the generous portions of fish on the nigiri & sashimi orders. I typically order one of the roll/nigiri combination meals (comes with miso soup and a side salad), but my favorite item on the menu is probably their sashimi salad.
