We were lucky to get seats at the sushi bar, and Chef David was amazing. My son was so excited to watch Chef David craft his nigiri. Every single piece was so good! The fish was fresh and melted in our mouths. The service today was superb, and everyone was so nice and welcoming. The price is very reasonable for such a great omakase experience. Place is small and now they have small outdoor seating which is kind of nice. I ordered the crispy rice with spicy tuna, and it was just OK, nothing really special or memorable. I also ordered the salmon skin hand roll, which was disappointing. The salmon skin wasn't crispy at all, and there was quite a bit of salmon meat still attached to the skin. I personally prefer a salmon skin hand roll to actually be mostly crispy skin. On top of that, it was extremely salty. My husband started with the soft shell crab roll, and honestly, it was terrible and completely inedible. We actually had to send it back, and my husband NEVER sends food back. The soft shell crab was cold and tasted like it had been cooked much earlier, possibly even the day before. It had that unpleasant taste of old or overused frying oil and was just awful. There was also way too much imitation "crab" meat in the roll compared to the actual soft shell crab, which, after tasting the soft shell crab, may have been for the best. He also ordered the special sushi platter. That was OK, and the fish did seem fresh, but we found the cuts of fish to be rather small and thin. Overall, this was such a disappointing experience, especially because we've been here several times before. We came back because we had enjoyed it in the past.

Garlic Noodles: OMG - you cannot miss this out if you like noodles and garlic! Chicken Katsu: great dish but can be skipped. Lamb Chop: if you like yakitori style lamb, it is absolutely great. (I love lamb) Over all this place from service to ambiance to food execution was absolutely amazing. I highly recommended this place and I will be coming back to try other dishes!

SUSHI TOWN: I found this place by accident when I was desperate to have sushi at late hours in a city I'm not familiar with. Given that I was in Newport Beach, I didn't know of a good sushi place from my exact location. SO... I yelped and low and behold, out of ALL the other choices I had, I ended up here at SUSHI TOWN. I have been here twice thus far and I can't wait to go back there again!. Locals place: I could tell there were a lot of regulars because the chefs were calling bar guests by their first names and the guests were offering them drinks! We had to sit outside though because it was too crowded and the only available seating WAS on the patio. But they had heat lamps so that was ok. I didn't like the incompetent host/hostess/waiter/waitress however because they seemed to have been ignoring us when we were standing there in the crowded area in front of the bar, watching other people eating and having fun, when all we could do is wait to hear my name being called. I got QUITE annoyed and had to keep asking the waitress if and WHEN a table would be ready. I saw that there were SEVERAL tables out in the patio. SO it was only until I asked, that they FINALLY seated us. Order: Variety sushi: tuna, ama-ebi, uni, ono, spicy tuna, salmon, eel, toro, and octopus. Variety rolls: volcano roll, lobster roll, OTHER: yellowtail kama, salad, dinner combo of kalbi and cali roll. Everything was SOOOPER fresh! My favorite were definitely the ama-ebi, eel, and uni. I can't believe how fresh everything tasted! And they looked just like the pictures!!! Perfect amount of rice - just how I like it I couldn't complain about anything that we ordered. All of us devoured every last piece of our dinner and were so full we didn't have room for dessert. I can't wait until I come here again next time because I'll probably order the same exact thing and MORE!!! I definitely have to bring my girlfriends here! The chefs are pretty cool too! I say this because most of them are actually smiling while in action of making sushi! Lol! *OH, and I believe the owner may have opened another restaurant called EON or ION fusion. I grabbed a menu on the way out but lost it. But before having lost it, I DID get a chance to go through their menu which made me want to go there too! It had GREAT prices and the menu items seemed VERY appetizing! IN FAVOR OF: Fresh x3! Their kalbi seasoning was pretty good too! And LOVE their MISO SOUP!!! YUMMMIO! AGAINST: Inattentive host who make you wait and ignore you if you don't seem to be a local. AND VERY SMALL INDOOR DINING AREA. Given that, the tables out in the patio are too close together as well. Made me feel uncomfortable when I saw a couple making out next to me while I was eating... Eww! read more

I love sushi town! the place is small and hidden, so you just gotta know to look out for. I go here frequently, its my other favorite besides Maru Sushi. I've been living in the area my entire life and have been a sushi fan since long before the sushi craze...I know my fish. This place is a hidden gem for sure. Always recommend it to friends, family and strangers and I'm glad to see that other yelpers feel the same way about this place. Its amazing! The service is always friendly and fast. They are quite small but they definitely make up for the size of the place by the food and service. Jin is the best sushi chef in the history of sushi chefs...Great guy who knows how to make sushi(unlike almost all other places in greater orange county)..this is not an exaggeration. The food is excellent. especially for the prices. How do they stay in business with such great prices!? You hardly pay for the ingredients itself! And you really cant ask for anything better than great food without breaking the bank. I love their volcano roll and maru special roll....also anything that comes out of the kitchen is A+..... We ordered for pickup and this is what happened, make your own conclusions. Order was right except for the sashimi combo we ordered ended up as a sushi combo. When we got home and discovered the mistake we called back and the waitress who took the order answered and insisted that she confirmed that it was a sushi combo 2 or 3 times. I ordered off a written list and checked it and yes it was written as a sashimi combo. Granted she did go back over the order one time but read it off as a sashimi combo as I read down the list of items we had ordered to confirm. Even though we did not want the sushi combo, we conceded and ordered another sashimi combo and were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. After thinking about it, I called back 2 minutes later to cancel the order. Same woman stated that 'O' it's already made'. I asked, 'you made a sashimi combo in 2 minutes?', (20 pieces), she said yes its sashimi, but it's ok. Our original order for 2 took 35 minutes. If you look through the negative reviews here on yelp, they are almost all about the unpleasant waitresses. Not interested in another negative experience. read more

We used to live in the area and this was our favorite sushi place. Yesterday we were in CM and decided to stop get some yummy sushi takeout, after a long time. Wow, what a major disappointment! We spent $80 for 5 roles. One was inedible, tasted like some chemical, and we were afraid some detergent or toxic liquid accidentally was mixed in the crab meat, ended up in trash. Fish on rainbow roll was cut in big chunks that were turning grey, we ate just the roll. Rice was hard in each roll, another roll had shrimp shells in it ( no shrimp, just the carcass) and avocado was oxidized. One of the rolls ( we couldn't even tell what it was) looked like different leftover pieces from other plates were put together and resold. We couldn't believed it. There was nobody in the restaurant, other than the cashier. No cooks or anybody eating there. Once this place changed the owner, it went down the drain. Wow. All I can say is that this place is a hole in the wall off of the 55 freeway, but it's a GEM. I've been coming to this restaurant pretty much once every two weeks week for a few years now, and it's almost always busy. You know it's good when the whole restaurant is packed with locals. The decor is cozy, but if anything, I'm always coming back here for the awesome service and amazing food. The fish is always fresh, and the waitresses and sushi chefs are incredibly friendly. Being a small restaurant, they really focus on the food and friendliness. I heard the restaurant has even received some recognition for its food from a few local newspapers, and I'm not surprised. The staff aren't pushy, but just want you to enjoy yourself and have a great time, and the food is amazing; what's not to love?! I love the food here and unique rolls. A good amount of variety for a sushi restaurant including a number of sashimi salads that are pretty great. I'm typically a fan of spicy long rolls and sushi town did not disappoint. The sake was pretty great and decently priced (less than $4 a shot the night I was there). Sushi town is is a good place for meetings or groups with decent seating space and good prices. Starting with the shishito peppers and edamame beans, on to the spicy crunch roll, capping it off with the Hawaiian roll, it was a decent meal all round. The only reason I wouldn't say 5 stars is because the freshness of the fish seemed to fall short of some of the other sushi I've had in newport/costa mesa/irvine and the venue itself is 1 hour parking only (not enforced the night I was there luckily but I ran the risk). Overall, good food, good service, good prices I will probably have it again some time! read more

But I've been coming to the Town now for 3 years and never have i been disappointed! Except for the service, yes the service it kinda bad on days but doesn't stop me from coming here. The sushi is always fresh, chefs are always friendly and fun. Back on consistency, I've been to all the good spots in Newport and even the "better" rated ones have had days where i wanted to not ever return. sushi town has always been on point and extremely enjoyable. Best sushi restaurant in town!!! Their portions are large and everything is super tasty. My boyfriend loves their ninja and monster rolls and I'm a fan of their vegetable rolls !! I cant find anywhere who has a good vegetable roll except this place! I also love the gyoza which is super crispy and delicious every time. Everyone working is super nice which also adds to how great the food is. The only downside is that they are closed from 2:30-4:30 everyday but I can live with it. Good sushi, the fish is fresh, and all the cooks are Japanese and very friendly. The place is quite small and when you're a party of two they seat you at the bar, as there are only few tables and a couple of booths. There was only one waitress and not very efficient or courteous, but anything else made it for a good experience. I will definitely go back. Our server, Eunice, was very nice and friendly. She was very attentive, never letting our water cups dip lower than half way before refilling. We had a part of 7 and it was able to accommodate us. It also allowed us to try out quite a few of their dishes and none of them disappointed. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but the rolls were nicely sized and we were stuffed when we finished! I didn't get a chance to take pictures of everything we had as we started eating as soon as the food arrived. We had: Appetizers: -soft shell crab (great flavor, but wasn't cut up) -baked muscles (excellent with white rice) -fried calamari (perfectly cooked) -edamame (as expected) -Hawaiian Poke (flavor was on point-sauce good balance of sour and spicy) Dishes: -Salvador Mango Roll (the slices of mango gave this roll interesting depth of flavor) -Hawaiian Roll (Cali Roll with sashimi on top-yummy!) -Crunch Roll (yummy!) -Orale Roll (this was a unique roll! My wife and I shared the Superman Burrito, Sapporo Roll, and the Jalisco Roll. Knowing what I know now, we could have ordered 2 rolls since they are massive! The burrito is cut into 2 halves and was refreshing and although, big, felt pretty light. The Sapporo was good with a slight kick and tang from the spicy CA roll/ponzu sauce. Jalisco was great and I normally do not like cilantro with my sushi; just know this one has a decent amount of sauce but it works well. We'll def be coming back!

Take care. 4/15/26 I've been getting these hand roll sets the last few months and they're usually pretty hearty for me- or maybe I'm sounding obnoxious for even mentioning this but I had to at least mention it now as it's changed how I'm receiving the takeout hand roll sets recently- Or maybe I'm just getting bigger ergo, my hand rolls are feeling like they're getting smaller. Maybe it's just me- I understand if prices on seafood are changing right now as gas prices are so inflated too, then I completely understand, got to factor in cost of the ingredients, but maybe at least fill the hand roll with a tinge more rice maybe, to give the illusion it is a hand roll? The hand rolls are about the size of my thumbs and I know I have unusually fat thumbs, but I don't remember the hand rolls being this small when I first started getting these a few months-ago. I got the clear broth ramen ($15.50) with extra chicken ($2.85), and it was delicious and fairly rich in flavor. The chicken comes thinly sliced. If you're hungry, ordering extra meat is a good idea.

Normally that wouldn't be a huge issue if there was actually a way to add it through the DoorDash menu, but there isn't. I explained that I was trying to pay for it and simply wanted to know how to do so, yet the woman I spoke with was incredibly rude and dismissive. Instead of trying to help find a solution, I was treated like I was inconveniencing them by asking a simple question. Good customer service is about helping customers (I've ordered there many times before and dined in person as well), especially when there's an issue with your online ordering setup. A small side of spicy mayo should not turn into an unpleasant interaction. The food may be decent, but customer service matters too. There are plenty of sushi restaurants that appreciate their customers and are willing to provide basic courtesy and assistance. Based on this experience, I won't be ordering from here again.
