I moved all the way to Yorba Linda and the wife and I still make a monthly trek out to our favorite sushi place. We usually try and sit with Jin but all the chefs are amazing. Sushi Town.. MMM! Is all I have to say! The sushi chef's Jin, Paul and JP are amazing. The wait staff is incredible. The garlic-seared tuna is a must have! And the octopus salad. First time here and LOVED it. I will say I'm not an experienced sushi eater and dabble in a few rolls here and there (nothing adventurous) and the rolls I had were incredible! I had the spicey tuna tempura roll and the crunch roll. Extremely fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend and the prices are very reasonable. $6-$9 a roll. The staff is very friendly, attentive and provide a great "Mom and pop" environment. I prefer that over a larger place with dark lightening and pretentious patrons. Everyone here was very laid back. First off I would like to say this one star is dedicated for the customer service. The food here deserve a 3.5 stars for it's quality and price. I came here with my girlfriend on a typical Friday night for dinner. I understand it's Friday night so it will be crowded and service would be slower. I tried to sit at the bar, but the wait was too long so we decided to sit at the table. What really ticked me off was the fact that I waited at least an hour for a volcano roll that never showed up. I inquired for about 3-4 times during the hour and the responses I got were "it's coming" or "it's baking". Finally I gave up and told them to cancel the roll and give me the check. That's when they told me "sorry, we gave the roll to someone else". WTF right? They could have told me that in the first place so I don't have to wait for so long. The other thing that really ticked me off was that they offered no discount what so ever for the time I wasted, not that I cared much about it at the point, but that's what they should've done. Located within walking distance from home, it may become the fallback "i don't want to cook, let's go out to eat" restaurant of choice. The atmosphere is super casual, the sushi chef and wait staff are attentive (which may be due to the fact that it was pretty empty when I went) and the food's good. My suggestion: sit at the sushi bar, talk with the sushi chef and you may be rewarded with a fabulous sushi gift. read more

I have to give my korean people credit here. Typically, I steer clear from any korean owned sushi but this place hits the spot at a reasonable price and good service. The sashimi pieces were of good portion and quality. Equally important is the service, especially at a sushi bar. I never had an empty glass of water (perhaps it was because I was only drinking beer and sake, nonetheless, the servers were always refilling water) and the sushi chefs were always checking up on us. Our order: Sashimi: Tuna (6 pieces), Yellowtail (3), Salmon (3) Sushi: 2 orders of Uni (4), one Spicy Scallops (2) Dish: Yellowtail Collar Beer & Sake All for $58 bucks, not bad. To give you an idea of the wait, I came here on a thursday night around 6PM and stood around waiting for 2 seats at the bar for about 20min or so. So come early or be prepared to wait. On a side note, I find it hilarious listening to the staff speak in korean with a japanese accent to sound japanese. ha. read more

They had some special rolls that night which we wanted to try (Pink Cadillac I think?) and my boyfriend and I both enjoyed them. The scallop hand roll I got was stuffed full with scallops and avocado it was delicious but not spicy enough for me. I also asked if I could have one of the rolls with raw scallops on top instead of baked and he said it wouldn't taste good and refused to make it for me. WTFFFFF? It was irritating to say the least. SO many better sushi places in orange county people. Went here last night with one of my girlfriends and was (as always) a good experience. We sat at the sushi bar and it took us awhile to get the chef's attention. He was pretty attentive afterwards considering the place was pretty busy. I had the jamming roll and albacore sashimi. It was pretty good. Not the best sushi I've had in Newport but definitely decently priced. One thing - parking can be a pain. There's a lot in the back which is nice because the one in the front is packed! Also, it's not the biggest place. I've come here with groups before and it took awhile to get a table. When I've come with just one other person and was willing to sit at the sushi bar it wasn't too bad. This place will always be a staple in my Newport/Costa Mesa restaurants. read more

There are so many sushi spots in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach area. However, this is hands down my favorite spot in the area. I love everything about it. The fish is FRESH, they give you a lot of meat and do not over do it on the rice like some sushi spots. I can seriously get full off one of their hand rolls, you cannot believe how much fish they pack! My favorite is the spicy Yellow tail roll with avocado. I LOVE it. I prefer it with the rice paper over the seaweed only because my only gripe is their seaweed can be be sometimes soggy. They have a very yummy roll my girlfriend coined the bikini roll. It has yellow tail, tuna and salmon and NO rice! It's delicious. I also love thir spicy garlic edamame and their Poke salad. Those are my staple items. I have never had a bad experience here and I go at least 3 times a month if not more. I love Sushi town! read more

This place was happening on a Sunday night, we had to wait for a table. That's not saying too much because it is a pretty small restaurant, but always a good sign when you have to wait for a seat at a sushi restaurant in my opinion. I ordered the Salmon, Yellow Tail, and Fresh water Eel nigiri. All larger than average slices of sushi and all were exceptionally fresh and tasty. My friends all ordered rolls... Can't remember their names as I was just sampling one piece from each, but all were very good. The special roll with the Lobster on top was outstanding, but a meal in itself. We sat at the sushi bar, so service was quick and efficient, everyone was very friendly and helpful. If you dont want to miss a game, there are several very large flat screens on the walls so you can watch TV as well. I normally order sashimi when i go out. I like my belly to be full of the fish and not rice. Sushi Town has some of the largest and freshest pieces ive tried. I go here often because i think they provide great sushi. The service can sometimes be a little hit or miss. The AC is usualy blasting. First time today, and I am quite impressed by the quality of their fish, I ordered mainly nigiri, and was extremely happy with what I got. The service was nothing notable considered they had a packed house and did not have time to be extra polite, and I came especially for the food so it doesn't bother me at all. i liked it but had better. We sat outside in the evening and the temperature was not too cold to have the heater but wasn't warm. It seems there wasn't a way to lower the heater, or just have it over the other table that requested it. Sushi town has some great rolls. I loved how most of the rolls did not contain tuna! Salmon is king here. However, I had the baby lobster roll and the avocado roll. I liked them but didn't love them. The baby lobster was pieces of lobster on top of a california roll. Others at my table had edamame, shrimp tempura and chicken teriyaki, among the other rolls (Hot Night looked really tasty). Sushi is cheap here! So you could fill up for next to nothing. The servers were good and the wine was tasty. LIke I said I liked it but didn't love it. Parking is a pain, those are not compact spots and it's hard to find parking in the other lot (with the 7-11). I might try it again if someone suggested coming; but wouldn't go out of my way. FYI-they do not take reservations so people are usually out the door waiting for a table. read more

Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but the appetizer and rolls that my friend and I had for lunch were just average and nothing too great. The first thing we had was the deep-fried soft shell crab appetizer which was soo tiny. I know it's an appetizer, but I was expecting more than a small little crab and a side cabbage salad. And they took it away before we were even done! As for the rolls, the jumbo volcano roll was definitely jumbo, but there was nothing special about it. The baked tuna on top tasted like a regular can of tuna that was baked on top of some rice and avocado. The maru's special (scallops, spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, sweet/spicy sauce) was hard to eat as it kept falling apart and the hot night roll was similar with the spicy tuna topping but had more avocado flakes and was filled with shrimp tempura. The best out of the 4 we had was probably the hawaiian roll, which was a spicy tuna filled roll topped with albacore tuna. Mediocre sushi, but the sushi chef was very kind and gave good recommendations for the sake! read more

I LOVE Sushi Town. Its within walking distance from my house which allows for liberal amounts of sake or beer. The chefs, Jin and Jon, are always friendly, and willing to make you something interesting. Along with the waitors, its always a fun atmosphere. The mango sashimi salad is my favorite, although I believe its a seasonal special. Inside the place is pretty small, but there are atleast 15 seats at the sushi bar. When i first starting going i noticed that everytime i went, the bar had loyal customers who knew the chefs, and revered the restaurant. Every time i go, there are at least 4-5 loyal repeat customers, which really says alot. Now i am one of those regulars, visiting nearly once a week. This place is right around the corner from my boyfriend's house, so that immediately makes me biased towards liking this place. We tend to go Sunday nights, and a lot of sushi places late-ish Sunday (like 8pm-9pm) are really empty, so it makes me feel awkward eating there. Well, this place is always (well, the two times we've been) hopping! The place is small, with only a couple of tables, but with a bar that wraps around. The bar is almost always full. The first time we sat at a table and the second time the bar. Everyone is friendly and really helpful, and I think that they have a really interesting assortment of rolls. We really like the Spider roll. This is pretty much a staple of mine anywhere I eat, but I REALLY like it here. He really likes the Jamming Roll. I got the King Scallop sushi the last time and it was super tender. It almost tasted citrusy too, so note to self: next time I go I'll have to ask if they put any sauce or something on it. We got a cucumber-wrapped roll the first time which I wasn't a fan of, it was kind of hard to eat. Let's see, what else... If you sit at the bar make sure you sit with Park/Sancho. He cracks me up. We were in the mood for sushi and wanted something close to home, so decided to try this place. We walked in around 6pm on a Sunday evening. The place was fairly full (they have table, patio and sushi bar seating). We ended up waiting about 10 minutes or so and were then sat at the bar. The menu is quite expansive with specialty rolls including descriptions and pictures (I always need them!) We started off the meal with some of their garlic edamame, had to try since I had never heard of before. It was definitely a bit different but I think I prefer the original salted edamame (less messy). We ordered a couple rolls, including the BSAR and Baby Lobster roll. I wasn't impressed overly with the rolls, but I take full blame and think this was selection error on our parts, we didn't realize they would all be baked. The BSAR would've been much better with raw salmon on top. The rolls were all well-made and presented nicely and the sauces were full of flavor without being overlay salty or sweet. The sushi chef was very friendly and gave us the offering to customize our rolls next time were in, which we plan to take advantage of with the BSAR. Prices overall were very decent. We plan to go back and try some non-baked rolls. Service was slow as is typical in most sushi spots like this, I ended up having to refill my own water a couple of times. read more

I mean probably closer to 15 different places.. which is a lot if you ask me!) Anyway this place is BOMB. enough said. Order the house sake (peach, pineapple or lemon) all of them are amazing!
