The name would lead anyone to believe that sushi is the main thing for this place, but I'd say there's so much more to Sushi West that the sushi is second. They specialize in takeout and bento style meals. This makes the place very popular with the lunch crowds and early dinner folks. I really like their sesame chicken. It's lightly coated and fried chicken pieces that are then coated in a very light sauce that is both sweet and savory. A perfect compliment to your sushi roll of choice. I also like their salmon teriyaki and gyozas. All the meals are served with miso soup, rice and salad. Even the salad dressing is delicious. It's a very light and slightly sweet dressing. Not a heavy mayonnaise based dressing that you see at a lot of other places. They give you way too much dressing for the amount of salad you get, so I sometimes pour it over my chicken. All of the rolls they prepare are delicious. The specialty rolls are also very good. Best of all things, the food is all reasonably priced, so you can eat like a king without breaking the bank. Be careful of one thing...THIS IS A CASH ONLY PLACE. I've had to go next door to the Trader Joe's to get cash on a number of occasions. read more

To me the prices are fair for the quality of food. It's fast, convenient and doesn't feel cheap. It's good quality food-okay their rainbow row can be better but it's still pretty fair to me lol. (I once had sushi in Arizona for $15 with sushi like 1/2 the size in Roll diameter it was horrible & made me appreciate CA and this place's $8 sushi rolls lol.) We always get their combo plates and from there your options are limited to their hanging menu. If you grab a menu from the register you can customize your combo plates. Order at the register tho. Their sesame chicken is always filling and I love their tempura veggies/shrimp! this small sushi places even has their own app so you can order to go orders ahead :D ! And I'm not even a fan of the California roll. What was I thinking? When my plate came, my first thought was who is able to eat all of this stuff? Seriously, these plates are enough food for two people. I've been working out for the past few months and I splurge every once in a while. I have an appetite like a prize fighter and this was too much food for me. I especially enjoyed the shrimp tempura, but I would definitely skip the California roll or see if it's possible to swap it with the spicy tuna roll. I got to listen to a very entertaining conversation with this kid telling his female friend that going to college in NY was the same as going to college abroad. And the cops sitting nearby having lunch were easy on the eyes. I'm really disappointed in this place. The presentation of the sushi rolls that I ordered were great, however the Aloha roll did not taste fresh or have any flavor at all. I am always quite satisfied with the 2 item and usually include spicy tuna roll, and tempura, oh and substitute the rice for extra salad since I love their miso dressing! Complementary water at an easy reach is a PLUS, PLUS! Only negative aspect of this place is that is CASH ONLY, oh man how I despise those words put together!!! My family and I have eaten at Sushi West Restaurant since they first opened in 2000. I always enjoy their fresh, healthy, delicious, and excellent selection and variety of Japanese foods, for the excellent prices offered. Of all the places I have had my sushi, they make the best tasting sushi that can't be beat anywhere else! They have maintained and even remodeled their bright and clean little restaurant. It is so popular, that it tends to get crowded during lunch time, and sometimes at dinner time. The big crowds speak well of their excellent food. They also maintain a very clean restroom facility. My family and I have been regulars here since they first opened in 2000, and we enjoy eating out here together "just because," and also for our family's various occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. We also enjoy taking our friends and out of area Visitors here, who state that they also enjoy the food served here. This is one of our all-time favorite local restaurants. I typically get the teriyaki salmon plate that comes with 4 pieces of tempura shrimp, zucchini and sweet potato. It also comes with salad, soup and a sushi roll...this is quite a steal at $11. I can't say that I crave it regularly, but when I'm in the area, it's a pretty good look. This little place have been around for about five years or so and it is awesome. There are a lot of customers from Japan and the staff is almost all from Japan. The flavored are great. Spot on and service is good! The place used to be a bit more crowded when trader joes was still open in the same lot, but it has a steady flow of people. Most of the meals are combos and the have a simple sushi bar. I get udon and curry when I feel like a lighter meal and a combo when I am hungry. Where else can you get just about any 3 item combo plate you can think of for under $8?! In fact, all of the rolls and bento/combo plates are under $10. Besides the prices, the other thing that shocked me was the presentation of the sushi rolls. Seriously, an orchid on the plate?! Who does that?
