I'm going to be honest, I didn't really expect much coming here. I was just looking for mediocre sushi where I can get a good bang for my buck. But man I was pretty surprised at everything. Peppered salmon and peppered tuna are so delish and only $3.50 for two pieces during happy hour! Fish is super fresh and high quality, much better than other sushi places. I can't believe that I've been going here every week since pre- pandemic and I have never left a review! This place is one of my most favorite local sushi joints ever! Everyone on my social media knows that this is my favorite place to be. My birthday? Sushi world. Hubby's birthday? Sushi world. A long work week? Sushi would. A stressful week? Sushi would! I'm also a sushi snob, so I know a good sushi spot when I taste one, plus It's only 5 mins from our house. Legit don't let the name fool you. I came on yelp 2-3 years ago and was craving a sushi spot. I normally only like going to authentic Japanese joints because the quality is just the best. Our area doesn't have the best sushi spots, so I searched on yelp and I saw that this place had great reviews, so I told my husband let's try it. (We needed a place to go that was local because it's hard to venture far with our kids). I'm so glad we tried this place because now I don't ever leave the Cypress area, lol. I don't understand why I was so lazy that I didn't go to Sango Sushi or other restaurants. I ordered a shrimp udon and a spider roll. They are unbelievably small and plain in taste. This is my huge mistake to go there for Sunday brunch. I hate watery rolls such a soggy rolls. They changed a lot maybe the new chef...or..the rolls were so tiny, the eel sauce was almost water. Best place for nigiri. Fish is the freshest and juiciest I've ever seen. They best part is that they do maki rolls correctly. The yellowtail here is to die for. Color is always right and texture is like butter. Service is great here too, they make sure to clear the table of plates before your next meal and are very attentive considering you really only see two servers on the whole floor most days. Very hospitable walking in. Small intimate restaurant noticed a nice long sushi bar as you walk in. A big plus is they have happy hour all week with a nice happy hour menu. I ordered the escolar sushi, blue fin sushi along with the black dragon roll. All were perfect portions not to big or to small in my eyes. Sushi was fresh not slimy or sticky as if it was in n out of the fridge for to long or constantly. Once I finished that I ordered peppered tuna sushi from the happy hour menu and I must say that was a surprise on deliciousness n flavor coming from it. I washed all this down with a tall Asahi as I do to keep it all in the same region. Sushi chef enjoys conversation with his customers and interacting as well. While working he's engaging with customers making sure they're happy with what they ordered and checking on quality. Now the big question is price for all that I got price was under $30 so I will say decently priced. But if your coming for a cheap date not a place I'd recommend. I came here with my family on a Monday around 3:30 and the place was pretty empty, so we got seated for our party of 9 really quickly. This place does all day happy hour on Mondays and Tuesdays, so what a wonderful excuse to eat sushi weekly! Our waitress was Cady and she was super helpful - she got us our waters quickly, gave us great recommendations on the food and what to get, and checked in on us often. We ordered the baked blue crab roll, jalapeno yellowtail, snowman roll, crunch roll, spicy tuna crispy rice, volcano roll, this roll with peppered salmon on top (forgot what it was called), unagi sushi, salmon sushi, calamari, spicy garlic edamame, scallop thing, and that's pretty much all I remember us ordering. My favorite rolls were the snowman roll (large roll, super tasty), the baked blue crab roll, and the jalapeño yellowtail! They were all super flavorful and you can really taste the freshness of the fish/crab! The spicy tuna crispy rice was also delicious, but portion was tiny - it was on the happy hour menu ($4 for 4 pieces). Calamari was a little stale, so I wouldn't recommend. The scallop was extremely tiny and there was one piece - image on the menu is not the same as what you get (on the happy hour menu), my mom really enjoyed the unagi, I'm not a fan of salmon so i didn't eat any salmon rolls, and the volcano roll was spicy tuna with rock shrimp on top. Overall, the food was really good and I can't wait to return when I'm in the area. Super fresh ingredients and a plus that I came when it was happy hour! I was looking for a sushi place in the area. This place has most yelp reviews with an average of 4 stars. So I decided to give it a try. I believe this place is authentic with a Japanese chef. First, I ordered jalapeño yellowtail. The fish pieces came with too much of the red part. I am no sushi expert. But I did see some chef cut this kind of part and throw away. It is the part where it has most blood. Thus makes fish more fishy. Second, I had halibut fin and yellowtail belly sushi. They are good. It is a good fatty belly part. Lastly, I ordered a caterpillar cut roll. I have to admit that it took longer than normal for the chef to prepare it. Probably too Long. The restaurant was almost half full. But there is only one chef working. I noticed the waiter probably notice it was too long and he talked to the chef. And also told me it was almost ready. I do appreciate the chef that he didn't rush to prepare it. While it was being prepared, I can smell the baked eel. I can tell that the eel inside was still warm when it was served. I've read that some people state that complain about the protein of sushi, but I beg to differ. The portion is appropriate with the amount of rice and actual content. Sushi rolls at other establishments are bigger because of how much rice they add. A-OK. My friend and I come here periodically for a sushi fix, as they offer Groupons often. You can even purchase them every thirty days or so, with no limit so far. Service has always been really friendly and great. The food is okay. We usually get four items or so... two each, cut rolls. I always look at the special menu but I usually end up with some on the check list. Usually I go for tuna rolls, or the philly one, or even a shrimp tempura or crunchy roll of some sort. He likes the spicy options. Flavor is okay. Another issue is that there are almost always sticky tables. The last visit was not as bad, but other times we would hear our items peel off the table such as the menu, or even the soy sauce dishes as we yanked them off with a little bit of strength.
