Not much of a sushi guy, but decided to go with a bunch of friends and try something different. The place is somewhat hidden, but when I walked in, I was pretty impressed with their set up. Small location but had so much food to offer. This was probably my first real experience trying "raw" sushi because most of the time i would only order baked rolls. From the spicy tuna to the albacore, everything tasted pretty good. My friends asked the sushi chef to surprise us with some sushi, and man oh man he did not disappoint us! I remember one roll that stood out the most, it was called the jungle fever roll. Probably my favorite roll there. And to top it off, their dessert roll was too good to pass up on. My husband and I tried this restaurant a few months ago and have been back at least twice a week since then. We had no special coupons and feel the sushi and sashimi are the freshest and tastiest we've found anywhere in Cypress or the surrounding area for sure and don't mind paying for it. We've had most of the menu items and love the edamame and the shishito peppers and don't mind paying for that either! We love the chriashi bowls and we can't wait for them to start offering beer and sake soon. We are counting the days as it will make our sushi experience so much better. We certainly love chef Jason and Award Winning chef #2 Rosindo from Mexico. We have been to Japan several times and have eaten sushi in many upscale Japanese restaurants with Japanese and Korean chefs and find Jason's creativity and love of his art surprisingly refreshing and exciting! We were afraid to try it at first because of the location and it usually isn't crowded; but we were pleasantly surprised! I am loving this place. It's close to me, good quality food, and the prices are great. The wait staff was helpful and attentive and the sushi chefs are very approachable and know what they are doing behind the bar. They have a pretty good happy hour with some great items and drink specials. All in all I give this place four stars for being a good place staffed with great people. Don't believe me? I wanted to like this place, I really did. I love sushi and I eat EVERYTHING. Sadly, this is one of those "wanna-be-high-quality-establishments-but-it's-really-just-whatever" kinds of places. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I ordered two sushi rolls to go and the assorted fruit plate for dessert. Strawberry something roll and some other forgettable roll. Compared to other sushi places I've been to, these were mediocre for the asking price. When I got home and opened up the bag, there were three boxes with a size that made you think and feel that you were going to be completely satisfied after you consume the deliciousness hiding inside of it. You know, like the way you feel after eating out at any other delicious sushi establishment? FULL & ready to take a nice food coma nap from the scrumptiousness of every bite. Oh how I was sadly mistaken. When I opened up the boxes, there were what looked like eight tiny pieces sitting in each oversized box. Each roll was about $14 each. Almost $2 per piece. Not exactly worth it. It did nothing for my appetite or my tastebuds. However, it did put a dent in my wallet. -_- Oh and let's not forget the assorted fruit dessert. Where do I start? It was $7 for what looked like 1.5 strawberries, half of a kiwi, less than one regular slice of honeydew melon, 1/6 of an orange, and 1 raspberry. SEVEN dollars. Do you know what I can do with $7? I can buy 1lb of strawberries, a whole kiwi, half of a whole honeydew melon, a whole orange, AND a container of raspberries at your nearest grocery store. Never again. I like it tight! When it comes to my sushi rolls that is. No breaking apart with bits of rice and fish falling off to the side. Nope, pack that sucker in there, so when I bite it, it stays together, even when I double dip it in soy sauce. Sushi World does it right when it comes to rolls. Tight and big, just like it should be. I got the Crunchy Roll, Dragon Roll, California Roll and Hamachi. The Crunchy Roll and Dragon Rolls were huge with fresh ingredients and great presentation. It is a bit expensive, but you get a lot. The Hamachi however is overpriced. Once again, great presentation, fresh yellowtail, but too small of a portion for $12. The California roll was good and worth the price. Service was good, but then, we were the only ones there. It looks like they are setup for Karaoke. I would come back, I only wish the prices for their sashimi was a little more reasonable. read more

I have to comment that the server was extremely friendly and genuinely seemed like a nice person. Who can complain about getting free ice cream at the end of their meal? People! People! Seriously you need to go visit this place! Why!?! I can't believe my first statement didn't convince you, so I'll attempt to elaborate on my statement. This place literally was a hidden gem of a sushi restaurant, but it is a new establishment, and when you taste the sushi, you'll be more forgiving. We were greeted by friendly waiter/waitresses as we entered the place and was escorted to our seats right away (no waiting...thumbs up). As we began to order, the polite waitress suggested a few popular dishes on the menu (me, thinking she would suggest the most expensive dishes on the menu, she did not). She suggested the Bently, Cypress, and 3 Amigos rolls, and follow with an elegant description of each roll. But that's not why I will be back, I am going back for the SEARED TUNA!!!! Oh my, never have I had such a tasty seared tuna and only for $1 a piece is a steal. With friendly and polite waiters and waitresses, exceptionally well taste and presentation of their sushi, this is a place I'll be raving for a long time. 3 sushi restaurants within a 5 minute walk of each other...I didn't know which to go to (although I didn't have sushi...I don't trust a place that makes rolls). This one happened to be the only 1 that was open at the time. I ordered takoyaki, chicken karaage, grilled salmon, beef teriyaki and the poke bowl. The chicken was OK, but I've had much better elsewhere (it wasn't very crispy). The takoyaki had 1 tiny piece of octopus in each ball. The salmon was overcooked and had a burnt taste from too much char. I very much enjoyed the beef (teriyaki sauce wasn't overly sweet or syrupy) and the poke bowl was delicious. We tried this place out because of the yelp $20 for $40 deal. Without it, it would've been ultra expensive. @_@ Here's the breakdown! Blue Crab Handroll - $8 Hamachi Kama (Yellowtail Collar)- $12 Uni -$8 Amaebi w/ fried heads - $10 Yellowtail Belly - $6 Aji Spanish Mackeral - $6 First, I still find it unsettling when the chefs are not Japanese. Second, not sure if it was because it was near the end of the day, but the rice wasn't fresh and a bit hard, so it really distracted from the fish. With that said, the Blue Crab Handroll is supposedly their most popular roll. $8 for 1 roll is pretty pricey, and for that I expected mind-blowing taste. It wasn't. I also didn't expect the crab to be fried either, which makes it harder to taste the freshness. It was overall a fairly rich tasting fried blue crab handroll that I'd skip. Uni was also a disappointment, as it didn't taste fresh. There was no sweetness and had a slight bitterness to it. :( The BEST fish of the night was the Yellowtail belly. I bought a groupon $15 for $30 and decide to give it a try. OMGGGG the food is soooo delicious and fresh. And the man making the sushi for me is pretty nice and funny. I ordered : Volcano rolls: tasty, less rice than other place so I can eat more :p :) Seared Hamachi Carpaccio: fresh and tasty with some green fried leaves. Blue crab hand roll: $6 for 1 roll but the quality is excellent. I can taste the real crab not something from the can Tempura ice-cream for dessert: I think the it's little too sweet for me. But it's good though. I recognized that the wasabi there is spicy but I didn't get the burn feeling through my nose when I ate at other place sometimes. So I put a lot on my sushi. read more

HURRAY! Finally a sushi restaurant that is not afraid to step out of the "bento box". After most of the local sushi places (and there is a very large concentration of them in the area) have gone AYCE, down the hum drum drain or opened up in a chain "not fresh, low cost" style, this is a breath of fresh fishy air. I could go in to details but just do yourself a huge favor and go try this place. So many wonderful items it is going to take me several visits to try most of them. And all the selections are extremely fresh. Plus a very attentive staff. I am actually excited about the next visit. I do have to address some of the negative comments.... Lack of Asian Sushi Chefs, what a joke. If the best BMW mechanic is Irish, are you not going to take your Bimmer there because he's not German. Give me a break! Expensive? I actually thought some of the prices were affordable. Think of what you are getting, FRESH SUSHI GRADE FISH. Let them tell you when they brought it in. And how they prepare it. Went here because we were looking for a sushi joint around the area we were in so we yelped this place and decided to go since it was 4 star rated and usually 4 stars is pretty good. 1. We were walked over to our table. The lady saw we had our 2 yr old with us but didnt move a chair for a high hair nor did she even offer to get a high chair. I got the high chair myself and walked it to my table. She finally came to the table as i approached and took the chair away. They werent busy at all so there was really no excuse not to bring a high chair. That would be the courteous thing to do like any other restaurant we have gone to. 2. The fried rice was super mushy and bland. Over use of garlic and no flavor besides the garlic. Ehhk. 3. We ordered the bentley roll because it sounded delicious. Plus, it was advertised all over their restaurant as the most popular. I force fed myself the roll. It was like ground tuna (not slices or chunks) and it felt sooo gross and mushy while consuming. Didnt taste that good either. I couldnt get over the mushy texture. 4. My husband ordered the caterpillar roll (which usually has a mix of eel and avocado on top). It was pretty mich a rice roll with all avocado on top with sesame seeds sprinkled on it with a tiny bit of eels inside the rice. We couldnt even taste the eel. Overload of avocado. But i preferred that roll over my nasty Bentley roll. Verdict--over priced for the lack of flavor, lack of good service, and lack of fish on a roll. We wouldnt recommend and wont be returning. I cringed when i left tip money. We LOVE sushi and have always enjoyed high quality sushi. Only positive thing---its not packed so there was no wait for a seat. Plenty of seats were open at 730pm. At their retail price, you're not really getting a bang for your buck, but with their several promotions on Yelp, Plum Village, and such, it becomes quite worth it to eat here. I am wavering between a 3.5 and a 4 star. The sushi was good and it had the best Inagi I have ever eaten. However, I have had better sushi from all the other rolls. The place is not cheap, but it is the only fancy sushi place in the area. Within the four shopping corners there are 4 other sushi places which are either all-you-can-eat or fast food places. Overall, I think this place is worth coming to if you are in the area, but not worth a long drive for. read more

I was searching for a close sushi joint in my area. I decided to try out sushi world because they were offering a yelp deal. I read the fine print and no where they stated that you wouldn't be able to use it for the happy hour. When I arrived there I noticed they stated that on there menu. Instead of making a big deal my friend and I still decided to give them a try. Although there happy menu prices look cheaper it isn't. Its cheaper because they offer less quality. I am giving Sushi World 5 stars on account of the price after Groupon was applied. Because otherwise, they are somewhat overpriced in my opinion. But, the food was great, everything was fresh. Our sushi was quite good, the albacore and tuna were my favorite. The chicken was not fatty, which is hard to achieve with dark meat. I had no complaints whatsoever. My husband and I shared a chicken teriyaki bento box no.2 and an order of mixed tempura, and were full before our food was gone. The waitstaff are very friendly and the food came out quickly. Not knowing where to go for Japanese/sushi around Disneyland area, I used yelp for help and I stumbled upon this place. Service was good, however our waitress keep forgetting my wine that I had to ask another waitress for it and I finally got it. Their tempura was a SAD dish. It was soggy and small. Definitely not your typical tempura shrimp with big crunchy batter which you find in most authentic Japanese places. So DO NOT ORDER THE TEMPURA if you are expecting the big , crunchy one like my mom was. They do have the fried octopus in skewers which were tasty and I guess that made up for it. The sashimi plate was expensive for a small portion but at least they were fresh. The other sushi rolls we ordered were just okay (rainbow roll, crunch roll and spider roll). I'll be honest with you. My rating is solely based on the sashimi / sushi menu. Sushi meaning actual sushi not the fancy rolls or other items that take away from the taste of raw fish. The quality of fish is average which is why I gave this a 3 star rating. When I search for Sushi reviews, I think most of us are wondering how good the sushi tastes here. Service, value and other things are nice but the most important thing is the quality of the fish being served. The service is great, the staff is friendly and attentive. The board menu (the specials of the day) is a bit small but they tend to have popular things like sweet shrimp and other common items. Nothing too exotic here tho. The value of this place during happy hour is GREAT! Of course, the happy hour menu is very small and limited and even if they are serving you previously frozen fish, you can't beat $2 for an order of salmon sushi ($1 per piece). I am really tempted to bump up the rating to 4 stars just for the great value of happy hour but I do not want to mislead any sushi lovers into thinking this place has amazing sashimi. read more

OK this wasn't the worst sushi restaurant I've ever been to but its definitely not even a so-so sushi restaurant. Cypress is full of sushi joints and this place is definately more towards the bottom of the middle. For one thing.....nothing on the menu is really outstanding or stands out for that matter. Secondly sushi is a fairly delicate food item. The rolls aren't meant to be a series of hyper compressed rice disks. If you have some kind of carb deficiency then rock on! One of the stand out horrors of my dining experience was the Catepillar roll. The whole thing was garnished in dried tuna flakes which in conjunction with the eel gave a flavor I would assume bad cat food would taste like. The thing that really really killed things for me were their Kalbi tacos. Yeah I know this isn't a sushi item but if its on your menu you better stand by it. This item left me speechless especially given it came out of a KOREAN owned sushi restaurant. How can a Korean person eff up Kalbi? I can't even tell you what kind of meat it was?!? This taco was just hopeless and was literally the WORST attempt at this little fusion morsel. Sushi World.....I can't say I'll be back but you do seem to have your share of fans so you obviously must be doing something right.....hell if I know what it is. read more

First impression walking in: the place is clean, neat, and modern. We were seated immediately and handed menus. Our waitress was very friendly and told us about some of the selections and specials. For starters, This place literally blew my mind. Ive had good sushi but this place was top 3 of all time. The service was amazing, the rolls were top notch, the presentation 5 stars and the quality of the food was out of this world. They have an array of custom dishes and every dish was better than the last (and this was all with a sober palette) The albacore and yellow tail are always the first things I order, if they cant hit it right with these two then i walk out. Sushi world nailed it with these dishes. Everything that came out after was just more icing on top of a very large cake and yes, it felt like my birthday. From the appetizers to the desert, the service to the quality I would recommend Sushi World (under new management) to Everyone. This place is a solid 10/10 all the way around. read more
