Came here on a date! The atmosphere is very cute and quaint. SO YUMMY! I got the two dish Combination order with beef teriyaki and sashimi! The order also came with house salad and a bowl of miso. The beef teriyaki is perhaps one of THE best I've ever had! And the sashimi selection is chef's choice and it simply was a delight! Each sashimi really did melt in my mouth! This place used to be the place around the area, but it took a serious dive after the pandemic. Only 2 servers working the entire restaurant. One particularly is not very friendly. Last visit I went with my elderly mother, and they set us in a very cold back room with no heat. If no heat situation wasn't awful enough, they gave us lukewarm cold tea that tasted nasty. I ordered the curry rice dish and my friend ordered the pork katsu. Both were delicious! It's difficult to find authentic Japanese curry at restaurants in Atlanta but Sushi Yoko does it best! We come here a lot. Really special place that I've been eating at since I was young. Best spicy tuna roll in the country (probably, and definitely best in Atlanta) -- must order! The sushi is great, but all of the hot foods are also really well done and feel lived in and true. Tempura udon, salmon teriyaki, potato croquettes, etc. Solid Japanese cooking. Very old school and simple affordable spot for lunch. Lunch always comes with miso and salad. I always get their sushi and tempura combination and I have heard from my coworkers that beef teriyaki is wonderful too. This is an update for some new appetizers I've tried and a special I've taken advantage of recently. First, the special. Monday through Friday, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, you can order five appetizers and one small draft Sapporo beer for $13.95. This is a great deal. Definitely take advantage of it if you happen to be in the restaurant during these times because it's a great way to try out one of Sushi Yoko's many apps. Now, for some of the appetizers: Fried octopus Fried oysters Chicken gizzard Chicken liver Chicken heart Uni tofu The fried octopus are bite-sized baby octopus, deep-fried and served with tartar sauce. They are small and crispy, a little bit rubbery, and very delicious. I highly recommend this one. The fried oysters are also pretty good. These are served in rectangular blocks and are a little bit delicate. You can easily tear them apart with chopsticks. Lightly breaded on the outside and mushy and hot on the inside. This dish is also accompanied with shredded lettuce. The chicken gizzard is served on skewers. These things are tough and chewy, but very tasty. They have a firm texture and "snap" throughout. The chicken liver is served on a small iron skillet or on skewers. It's hard to eat this one with chopsticks. You'll need a spoon. The best part are the fried leftover remains on the skillet which you have to scrape off. This app comes with a dipping sauce. The chicken heart is served on skewers and has its own unique taste. I like it. It has similar texture and consistency to the gizzard, but not nearly as tough. Try it! The uni tofu is a cold app. Uni = sea urchin. This is a block of tofu with seaweed, wasabi, and a bit of uni on top. The tofu is marinated in a light brown sauce. Not bad, though my friends suspect the uni had been frozen. Service is good as always. Overall, I'm still a big fan of Sushi Yoko when it comes to authentic, value Japanese food. read more

BUT, some of the food they have taste really salty or just bad, like too bitter or got a weird taste in it, Which makes me don't want to taste any other food other than what my friend recommended me. Way back when, I used to come here a lot for dinner b/c it was my favorite Japanese restaurant and close to my house. But then food started tasting average & service went downhill, so I stopped going. Fast forward to a couple wks ago, and I decided to check out their lunch specials. Like Umezone (same owner as Sushi Yoko), they have the $7.50 lunch combo "pick 2". Lunch specials come w/ miso soup & salad - soup was salty, and the salad needed more dressing. I decided on sushi & sashimi for my lunch combo. Sushi included 4 pieces (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, & I forgot the 4th), and sashimi included 3 pieces tuna & 3 pieces salmon. Everything tasted fresh and pieces were decent size. My friend had the $7.50 Katsu Curry Rice which she enjoyed - and the portion was pretty generous. Service wasn't friendly though. I don't think I saw one smiling server. But the place was packed for lunch - obviously customers come for the food. They're not here for the ambience either - inside feels like a trailer home. Except maybe worse - no windows. And very dated. I'd probably come back just b/c they're convenient, they have a wide menu, and they have very reasonable prices - and esp. if I'm craving comfort food or noodle dishes (just $6-7). Walking into Sushi Yoko is about as close to walking into a "real" sushi bar in Atlanta as I have ever experienced. At lunch it was bustling in this old restaurant and Japanese grocery store (which are separated by a wall). You walk through the entrance and it's kind of old and I wasn't sure I was even in the right place. I glanced in the little grocery store to the left and figured that's not the sushi bar and then opened the door to the right and Bam! The restaurant and sushi bar were hopping. 4 or 5 servers were running around and one of them motioned for me to sit at the half full sushi bar. A gentleman was behind the bar who has surely been cutting fish for many years. I've never been to Japan but I have a feeling this is about as close as it gets in Atlanta. The server dropped off the menus and I love a deal. $7.95 for pick two and it comes with ginger salad, miso soup and rice. There were too many to mention? authentic Japanese dishes, to choose from. I picked the sashimi and udon noodle soup. Both were delicious. I'm looking forward to trying some of the more traditional items my next time in. You can't beat that deal at lunch. The building is weird looking, the location is at an off place off a highway bridge, the entrance looks like you're walking into an employee entrance/back hall of a business or mall. Posted a status on my Facebook and Sushi Yoko was mentioned the most from friends. I took my sister along and she DISLIKES sushi, but she was hungry and I was paying. I ordered sushi: shrimp tempura (8 rolls), fuhamaki (4 rolls), and bagel/smokey salmon creamcheese (8 rolls). My sister ordered the lunch special: teriyaki chicken and udon noodles. Her meal came with a salad, miso soup, and a rice bowl! MORE THAN ENOUGH to eat. She didn't even finish everything, but I did. We both were satisfied with this place. Although, the entrance looked kind of sketchy outside...once you enter, there are "cute" cartoons on the left wall which runs down the long, narrow hall way that splits into 2 entrances, tomato or susi yoko! What a hidden gem!! I will definitely be visiting this place more. They have a large selection of items including noodles, sushi, sashimi, meats, etc. There's something for everybody. Prices are not bad at all, dinner would probably be 15-20$ a person but it's a lot of food! Hot tea is served with the meal if you want, which I LOVE. My SO and I got the spider roll, sashimi, and beef teriyaki. All was delicious!! Sashimi was super fresh and tasty. The beef was cooked perfectly, about medium rare-medium. My mouth is watering just thinking abut it! It's a small place, but love the "homey" feel it has to it. Staff are very attentive but also not too intrusive. I'm also writing this review because I was shocked it had been a while since a review has been written about this place even though it's been around forever. This is not Umi, This is not MF. This is great, authentic Japanese food served in a humble environment. You walk down a hallway decorated with cute anime characters and for myself and my son it was "kawaii" and charming. the minute we walked in, we noticed a lot of Japanese and other Asians enjoying their meals. We also noticed anime and other Japanese television being broadcast on televisions. In case you've never been to Japan, this is very much like simple restaurants you'll find in the side streets of little towns throughout Tokyo. The other terrific surprise was the menu and its prices! Talk about bang for your buck! Just because it's Japanese doesn't mean it has to be fancy. For those of us who love Japanese food but don't want to break the bank every time, Sushi Yoko is a must try. Me and three friends decided to try this out-of-the-way Supposedly, good sushi restaurant. I thought we were going to have a good Night out at an extremely high and beautiful environment. That could not be further from the truth. When we finally could figure out how to get into the grounds on which the restaurant was located it was extremely disappointing. We couldn't even figure out where the front entrance or main entrance was to the restaurant. We finally realize that the rickety, shabby stairs, Front porch and dilapidated overhang was the main entrance. As we entered inside it looks like this place has not been remodeled since the 1980s. We entered into an L-shaped Corredor with no windows, a dirty uneven floor and walls painted with fading chipped Japanese anime characters. When we finally got to the inside entrance of the restaurant it was a four pane glass door. As you entered into the actual restaurant which was a smaller version of the entirely large building, you saw the kitchen to your right. I glanced in and noticed the floor was filthy and it did not look clean or sanitary whatsoever. As we continue to walk into the restaurant I saw a small table with some items sitting on it and the tablecloth was stained and filthy. As we came up on the booths for dining they looks like they were straight out of the 1980s mauve colored benches and forward top tables. The walls were adorned with what looked like slat board Pine colored wood. When we sat down we were not offered menus, we were told we could use the QR Code taped to the tables if we wanted to see the menu. They refused to even provide a paper menu for us to view. Nothing in this place looks to be updated upgraded clean or sanitary. It took a while to figure out what they had on the menu for Vegan. I opted for the vegetable tempura a seaweed salad and avocado rolls. My friends ordered different and assorted sushi. Once the seaweed salad arrived at the table I took a few bites and it seemed like it was not fresh. It had a strange flavor they told me it could've been old and on verge of spoiling. The vegetable tempura was uneventful, I ate it with some soy sauce and wasabi. The avocado seaweed rolls were small I did not appear to be fresh. The rice served with the meal was not moist it was clumpy dry and hard in some kernels. I eat my food anyway. I chased it down with water a Japanese beer and some warm psaki. Psaki was truly the only thing that I enjoyed. We paid our bill and left. It was an uneventful, ugly environment, good service but poor quality of food. The outside of the building looked as anxious and dilapidated an unattended to as the rest of the interior. It looked like it had seen a hurricane and never been repaired or painted. I have no interest in ever returning to that restaurant. At 2 AM in the morning I woke with stomach pain, grumbling and turning. Eventually I had to address the truth, I was about to throw up. I ran to the bathroom leaned over the toilet and threw up four times. Everything that came out of my stomach threw my throat burned and then all of it was the food I ate at this so-called Japanese restaurant. All in all it was a hideous experience and I suffered the pain of it at 2 o'clock in the morning and I'm still feeling sickly today.
