Alaska roll, 30. No Name Roll, Special California Roll
    Eowyn K.

A friend and I were in the area and stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. They were relatively busy. We sat at the bar (to cheer on the Lions as they had small TVs over the sushi bar). Sushi Zen fits its name, relaxed environment while maintaining lovely decor. The service was fantastic. Our service Dov, was just the right level of friendly and engaging without ever being too much. He seemed to appear at exactly the right time. We order ginger salads, miso soup, and three rolls to split. The miso soup was a bit more flavorful than I've had at of restaurants, and we really liked it. The special California and the Alaska were the same as other good sushi places. My friend wanted to try the no name roll, which was baked, I didn't realize before ordering. I did not like it, but I am also not a fan of baked sushi, there was a sauce similar to a hot sauce on it I did not like. It was also too many flavors happening. The prices are the same as other similar quality sushi restaurants in the area. They do offer lunch specials, even on Sundays, that have a lunch price point .

Very cozy sushi place in Brighton. The TNT roll was tasty although it could use a little bit of spice. The dumplings were steamed perfectly and the salad was my favorite - so much flavor! Definitely recommend giving them a try.

Sushi Zen is phenomenal for creative tasty EXCELLENT sushi. Their top notch cuisine includes several cooked options for those that do not enjoy the raw selections. Sushi is one of the cleanest foods. It is amazing treat when the chefs make the quality of food OUTSTANDING. Their top notch skill and knowledge they possess to adapt to my complicated food restrictions set them above in the food industry. Gluten can be found in soy sauce, tempura, eel sauce and even in crab stick. Creating without the traditional staples of their key cuisine cannot be easy. Anticipate a line. It is worth the wait

Food was very good. Service was a bit slow and a couple requests for the server were mishandled. Overall, a very positive experience

Soup and salad came right away! Sushi itself was a bit of a wait and accidentally got 2 very similar rolls that we didn't end up liking. The mahi was on special for Thursday ladies night but it wasn't worth getting it was so bad flavor wise. Service was good that saved it a bit but overall wasn't wowed by this place. Small table made it feel cramped to be in there. I'd go again to try other rolls but might enjoy sitting at the sushi bar better next time.

i absolutely love sushi zen in brighton! i've been going here for years, and it never disappoints. the sushi is always fresh, flavorful, and so beautifully made. every visit is consistently yummy whether i'm grabbing my usual favorites or trying something new, everything comes out perfect. the staff is super friendly, the service is quick, and the atmosphere is always buzzing. it truly is one of those local gems you can always count on for an amazing meal. if you're in brighton and craving sushi, sushi zen is hands-down the best spot. i'll keep coming back again and again!

I keep searching for a better sushi spot in the metro Detroit area, but time and time again, I find myself coming back to Sushi Zen. It still holds my number one spot for the overall best sushi. Honestly, I hate even writing this review because the wait can already be long, and it seems like more people are catching on--but it's no secret: their sushi is amazing. A true gem!

Busy. Make a reservation. I followed Chef Nobu here but he has now left a few years ago. Still good however, the chef surprise is up to the head chef, which since Nobu left, is typically a lot of cooked, fried rolls and apps. The chef surprise has always been a nice blend of raw, rolls and feature apps. Still very good but not my cuppa. Great place to appease the whole family. They are not just a sushi joint. They have a good size dining room with great waitstaff though they are usually busy. There are specials each night so look up the list and enjoy martini Monday or half off bottles of wine. They do takeout and catering platters too.

Mango Fiesta Roll, Reef Roll, White Cajun Roll and Hot Spider Roll respectively. All are winners!!!

Best sushi in Livingston County! Every roll is amazing, service is great, etc. Will continue to come back here and if you haven't given them a try yet, you are seriously missing out.

Best sushi on the west side! Be prepared to wait. Doesn't matter if it's carry out (have seen 1.5 hour waits) or for a table.

You won't find the Americanized dishes like General Cao's chicken, but you will find one of the best presented but also deliciously tasted Peking duck - one of the most recognizable and celebrated Chinese dishes. I also love that they serve many dishes in porcelain chafing dishes to keep food warm, as foods taste better when they are kept warm. My personal favorites: lobster steamed with egg, eggplant and string bean stir fry and happy family soup. The desserts are great too. Check out photos for more. Ambiance: This is the standout among Chinese restaurants in Michigan. Many Chinese restaurants are out-dated. It is like you step into restaurants in China in 1990s. This gives you a more current fine-dining experience atmosphere. Their sign is easy to see as you drive by, but my friend did give me a heads up that their door was not obvious. You need to walk through a fence and then open a non deacript door. The artwork outside is awesome! When we walked in we received a friendly greeting and were quickly shown to our seats. We had made a reservation ahead of time and there was no delay to seat us upon our arrival. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders right away. I appreciated that they had multiple non alcoholic drinks and at a fair price. I started with the Thai Iced tea which was delicious, but I would have loved a glass 2x the size! We ordered multiple dishes to share amongst us. I did ask the server how many dishes they recommended that we order as I wasn't sure of the size. The items are brought out as they are made, so we had food being dropped off to is at random intervals. The only slight issue we experienced was when someone else tried to bring a plate of squid to our table. We let them know that we had not ordered it. They then went and talked to our server, who brought the squid back to our table. We also let them know that we had not ordered that dish. Our server did bring back our order slip and looked it over, and I believe at that point they realized that we really had not ordered that dish and just weren't rejecting it. I am not sure if it had been written wrong, communicated to the kitchen wrong, or what but we did have to state multiple times that we had not ordered it. The rest of our dishes arrived correctly. The crispy chive cakes were great, and the sticky spare ribs were AMAZING. The caramel glaze on the outside of the ribs was so good, and they were tender as well. The outside was super crispy. I would absolutely ordered these again. I would say that both of those dishes were only for 2 people. The sticky rice and jasmine rice were as to be expected, and I personally felt that the papaya salad was not as good as others I have had. The chilli noodles had an amazing broth and I would also recommend. Overall, I did enjoy our dinner but I am not sure that I would go out of my way to return. I am rounding up to 4 stars based on the sticly ribs alone, otherwise a 3.5 would be more fair. I have been hearing about Takoi for years, so maybe my epxections were too high but I was expecting a bit more.
