I distinctly remember the Sushirrito hype. I was in middle school when they first opened and on a field trip to the city, my friends and I got Sushirrito. It was a hit and became a lunch spot of choice anytime my friends and I went downtown as middle schoolers. To be honest, I haven't thought of Sushirrito in a while, but my companion suggested we go. He ordered ahead for us, which was efficient. The inside is on the smaller end with limited seating. Imagine a Chipotle or Subway, it's like that but for sushi burritos. Workers were efficient, which is granted as they're mainly a takeout spot catering for the downtown crowds. As a kid, I loved their Sumo Crunch! It was always considerately good. This go around, I got the Latin Ninja! I quite liked it. The creamy sauce was good, the salmon was buttery, and everything tasted great together. Companion had the Geisha's Kiss which was a unique combination of flavors. I liked his raw fish more but felt the pickled veggies and tamago provided a thrown-off taste and texture. I will say both burritos seem much smaller than they used to be. For the price, I'd expect more volume or higher quality. As a sushi and burrito lover, I'm a huge fan of Sushirrito's concept. I wish they'd open a sushirrito in another part of the City. Since I no longer work downtown I don't get there but once a year. Because of where it is, it is definitely a place you need to walk to for lunch as parking is super expensive. And stopping on busy Kearny St is near next to impossible. I don't normally give lunch places 5 stars, but just one bite into my Geisha's Kiss and the Sumo Crunch ( we split) and I was reminded of how much I love this concept. The first time I went here a year ago, I was going to give this place a 3 star, However, I went back today and the girls there are super nice! And I didn't see the sauce selections last visit , this time I got to try it with my burrito and it made a huge difference. From something that was alright , to something I'll probably have cravings for now . You can order ahead and pick up, but they were fast when I just walked in .but to be fair, no one was inside at the time I went, last visit, they were super busy with pick up and walk ins. Def worth a try if you haven't had sushi burrito, make sure you ask for sauces if you don't dine in. One extra sauce a burrito but .25 cents for extra which is also affordable and great! We walked by this place while exploring the city and wanted to check it out. The place had small tables that fit about 15 people comfortably, and was clean and bright. Walked into the store and noticed the area inside is not too big. There are very little tables for sitting. Got myself an order of The Kim-rrito with the kabayaki beef with kimichurri choice. Received the order in a nicely designed box with the sushirito split in half. Took a bite into the sushirito and a good mix of flavors began entering my mouth. Soft texture from the kabayaki beef mix in with a nice mild spice sauce. Not overly powerful. Sadly everything is cold even the beef. A warmed up sushirito would definitely warm my belly up. This has been one of my go-to spots for awhile now. What I usually order: SALMON SAMBA: 5/5; I get this every single time I'm here, without fail. The combination of flavors is on point. This is random, but the BEST part is the breaded fried asparagus in the burrito. The burrito is giant, so eating half is more than filling. I've had the other half for the next day, and it was still just as delicious as the day before. The cost is roughly 20 bucks. Adam S! You nailed it. I almost felt the need not to write a review since yours says it all and so much more eloquently than I can. But anyways, here goes. I used to go to one of the locations at 11am 2-3 times a week because when they opened was the only time that the line would be 10-15 minutes or less. Closer to lunchtime people would line up around the block for these things. I went multiple times a week because I craved multiple rolls and could only eat one at a time. This is no longer that place. This is a tiny place with three tables. Walked in at about 12:30 and snagged one. No wait and no line at all. The vibe in there used to be that you felt lucky to have finally gotten to the front of the line and you were in for something special! Now...it's depressing. It feels like they are dying a slow business death. As Adam said, in those days the workers were different. The owner was often there and the staff was bright eyed and moved with purpose. The assembly line of roll making hummed like a well oiled machine and was almost something of a show. Now? About what you'd expect at a slow fast food place amid a sea of mostly slow fast food places on Kearny St. There were three women working and between them they knew enough English to take an order but not enough to answer a simple question about the food. Back then the Salmon Samba was kind of par-cooked. Not really cooked through as it was still orange, but soft enough that it literally melted in your mouth. One of the best things I have ever eaten, and I can't count how many I must have had over the years. After years away from the Bay Area was back last week and craving this. The fish this time was typical fast food salmon - white, overcooked, and dry as a bone. Also tried the other salmon one (which is raw) and it was pretty decent. Initially struggled with giving the place 3 stars because I should be judging it based on what it is now vs what it used to be. And what it is now the food (besides the Salmon Samba) is pretty solid. Good even. It's tasty and unique. On the other hand, when I read some of the reviews before I wrote this I did see a theme about it being overpriced. These things are creeping up on $20. Is it worth it? IDK. (Overall: 88% | B) - Overall, the service at Sushirrito is always a high as the workers are fast, efficient, friendly and always offering of free sauces on the side. The FiDi location I found to be a bit dim and the lack of seating makes it hard to compare with the Palo Alto location. Great food overall! (Salmon Samba: 85% | B) - This sushi burrito is filled with tender and flavorful cooked salmon, asparagus tempura, and other veggies fresh from the garden. I found the creamy aioli to pair well with these components of the dish well. I found the asparagus tempura to be not fresh though as it looks like its separating from the batter. (Buddha Belly: 70% | C) - On my quest to try every Sushirrito, I gave the Buddha Belly another chance. It seems like this burrito has actually been replaced with a new one on the menu since, but perhaps this feedback can still be useful. I think an eggplant-based sushirrito does have a lot of promise, but perhaps needs to be paired with bold flavors similar to the Chinese garlic chili eggplant dish. This burrito unfortunately pairs it with a lot of raw veggies consisting of mainly carrot, onions, and greens and the natural flavor does not work well to give the dish a flavorful lift which is much needed in my opinion. (Fiery Chicken: 80% | B) - Next on the sushirrito list is the fiery chicken featuring chicken karaage. The flavors here are very appealing as the jalapeno gives this dish an interesting kick and the herb sauce adds a nice creamy balance. I did find the chicken to be significantly overfried though, making it rather hard to digest. (Satori: 95% | A) - This sushirrito is quite refreshing -- the portion of hamachi is surprisingly plentiful and paired well with the fresh cucumber and the wasabi mayo that gave it a pleasant kick. Adding a crunchy additional crunchy element could elevate the texture contrast, but besides that this is a very well constructed sushirrito. (Geisha's Kiss: 87.5% | B) - This tuna based sushi burrito is a classic favorite! The pairing of tamago cucumber tuna pickled pepper and lotus chips is conceptually interesting and ends up working well to add fresh vegetable flavors as well as a soft sweetness from the egg omelette. My only complaint is that the tuna has undesirable texture as if the freezing and thawing process destroyed the structure of the tuna. (Latin Ninja: 90% | A) - The latin ninja is quite pleasant as the mango sauce is really flavorful and pairs with the raw salmon with beautiful marbling very well. I found the plantain chips to contribute negatively in terms of the taste, but they do add good texture. (Sumo Crunch: 97.5% | A) - And finally, the sumo crunch, a classic I've posted about before! The sumo crunch is my favorite sushirrito as it elevates the classic california roll with a delicious sriracha aioli and an abundance of imitation crab, beautified with a crunchy red exterior of tempura flakes. I doordashed a sumo crunch roll from Sushiritto around 8 PM on a weekday and my meal was really unsatisfactory. The cucumbers in my roll were extremely bitter / unfresh. The sauce was lacking and the roll was really dry. Sushi rolls? They have to be cut up in slabs well enough to fit in your mouth. Sushi burrito is a better choice when you sink your teeth in rather than cutting in slabs like sushi rolls. At Sushirrito, I get to buy any sandwich wrap that looks like a burrito with some Japanese elements, with nori wrap as its base. Take Latin Ninja for instance. It has crunchy plantain chips, followed up with raw salmon poke, flying tobiko roes, and wasabi mayo. Talk about Mexican/Japanese fusion! I'm glad a pair of working latinas haven't put too much wasabi mayo. Its spice almost completely hurt my nose after consuming the nearest end of the sushi burrito. We finally got our first sushirrito type of restaurant near my house so whoo hoo, but not quite as good as the original. After a long flight from Chicago + the time change I was starving. All I wanted was sushi so walked to a few sushi restaurants near my hotel and all were closed - boo. Then I saw sushirrito was open and figured that was the closest thing to sushi that I could eat relatively fast. Very interesting take on the sushi burrito which makes for some excellent flavor combinations. The vegan chicken (edamale) is especially interesting and tasty as is the salmon poke . The portions are quite large and a roll by yourself is quite and undertaking . Luckily they serve hand rolls which to me is the perfect portion and only 9 bucks . I've tried a couple locations of Sushirrito and I thought the first place was a fluke but when I tried this place I realized they all serve their sushi salmon par cooked? I ordered the latin ninja and many pieces of the salmon were nearly opaque and flaky as if they were cooked, but the menu lists it as raw salmon. It's disappointing because sushi burritos are one of my favorite fusion foods and I would have loved to love this place, but it's just not up to par. Other than that, the food is prepared very quickly and you can be in and out within 10 minutes. The store is very centrally located in fidi so it's a solid lunch option in the area. It's fairly crowded inside and there were a lot of boxes when I was there, so it's not the most romantic or formal dine in spot. I'd suggest taking it to go over dining indoors. All in all, I would not recommend getting a sushi burrito from Sushirrito. There are other places that do the sushi burrito much better and the menu is misleading because the burrito that's meant to have raw salmon isn't serving fully raw salmon. read more

So it's been years since I've been here when they first open which I really enjoyed it and now it has really gone down. The rice is mushy and for $19 for a satori with additional fake crab $4 which came up to a total of $24 was not worth it. They gave me only a few strain of hamachi. I can get a poke bowl for $14 a block away and I get a lot of 3 type of raw fresh fish with a lot of other topping. It wasn't even big. Should have taken the picture sideways. Anyhow, I won't be coming back and I wish them the best of luck for that price and amount they give. Paying extra $4, you would assume it's more but nope. Less fish and more fake crab which is cheaper. The only good thing is their sauces. Also service was ok. I had to ask for the sauces instead of them offering it. Location on Kearny is convenient and easy to get to, except if you're driving and looking for parking. Went here at 7pm on a Tuesday. No one in line. I received my order in 10 mins. Went by really quickly. I usually get either the Satori or Sumo Crunch. Ordered the Satori this time. Love the crunch of the red onions and the spice of the wasabi. The roll tastes sour and tangy.
