    Crispy Vegan Tofu Koja
    Vivek K.

What's with the massive lines at Koja Kitchen? Despite being a chain with multiple locations, this food truck at Spark Social somehow manages to command 20-30 minute waits during early Friday dinners. To caveat, this is coming from a vegetarian so I don't get the same perspective of places sometimes. 3/5 Crispy Vegan Tofu Koja was okay. Sure, the tofu had a nice crisp and came dressed in a decent sauce. But those famous garlic rice "buns"? Too much rice. Too little garlic flavor. It was too carby and bland to really enjoy it. The ratio just felt off, I wish they were thinner and had more flavor for the Tofu one. Look, I get trying new things at food truck parks. That's half the fun of Spark Social. My gf who eats meat absolutely loved the original as she mentioned that the meat and sauce both were excellent and would have rated it a 5/5. But when you're standing in line for half an hour for something you could get at any of their permanent locations, it makes you want to try something that is more unique. Skip this one, at least as a vegetarian or someone who is looking for something you can't get elsewhere.

After a brief wait, I got The Original Koja and was a little shocked by the small portion size for the $18 (including tax) that came. However, the sauce was extremely flavorful, there was a lot of meat loaded into it that all tasted really juicy and tender, and the rice patty had a nice crunchy consistency on the outside but chewy on the inside which was a very unique and fun twist to the normal bun.

Got teriyaki chicken and it looked really bad. My girlfriend then went back and told them that it looked bad. They refunded the order and gave us a free dish . 100% going back 10/10 service and food. Ambiance great it's spark social sf. So lively.

    Kamikaze Fries with extra meat

A solid choice when you are visiting spark social. Their kamikaze fries are my favorite thing to get. This time I tried it with extra meat and it was amazing. Perfect to share or have as your full meal. Chicken burger was also good, delicious sauce. They have tablets for you to order from and then you are called to the window and a text is sent when your order is ready. This allows you to go grab food from another truck and come back when your food is done. This is a grab and go food truck and there is open picnic seating. During sunset and on a clear day there is a beautiful backdrop, perfect for photo ops.

KoJa Kitchen is a classic fusion spot that I like! Personally, I haven't had it since 2018 but from where I usually get it, never received portions this big! The only reason why I am giving it a 3 is because the packaged gochujang sauce spilled in the box so I had to scoop the sauce and put it in my fries. I know I could have gone back but I was too far from there to have realized. I recommend the staff to double check that they do seal their sauces cuz half of the sauce for these fries are incomplete. Another this is, the bulgogi ground beef felt questionable to me. I looked at pictures prior to covid and it seemed like it used to have beef pieces so I don't know what's that about. The positive side is the fries were crispy though! Despite the inconveniences, I think this is a good spot to still go considering the portions

Listen, I LOVE Koja. I love Koja so much I included it as a picture in my photo dump from SF last summer. So when I came back to visit SF this past week, of course I had to order Koja again. I got the beef bowl, one of my classic orders. But for some reason, it didn't hit as hard as it did last summer. I wasn't sure if it was because I ordered with different toppings back then, but the beef tasted a bit saltier and less sweet than I recalled, which the kimchi only exaggerated. I have heard people recommend the other Koja locations over the Spark Social one. Either way, if I come back to SF, I would order Koja again, just maybe with different toppings.

I love getting the loaded fries from Koja whenever I come to spark! They have ordering kiosks now which makes it super easy to place your order, then find a table or buy more food while you wait for your food to be ready. The texture and flavor of the loaded fries is always super consistent and delicious - I've probably gotten them more than 10 times now!

Out of all of the options at Spark, Koja is a solid choice because their original offerings are delicious and one of a kind. Not quite just a burger and not quite just a rice bowl, but a combo of the two together! Their crispy rice in a shape of a bun is genius and their loaded fries is worth the sin as long as you share it. Recommend: The Original Koja Umami fries

I think I would die for KoJa's Kamikaze fries. They are topped with heaps of sweet and spicy goodness, atop a bed of perfectly crispy waffle fries. I'm drooling just thinking about them. The Umami fries are a great choice too, but I personally think the Kamikaze fries are more flavorful and a little bit more my speed. I've tried various other menu items and all have been very solid, but the Kamikaze fries are what keep me coming back.

This is a great spot to take the family or friends. They have a nice range of homemade salsa's but what really set's this place apart from the rest is their Al Pastor. Most places can't do it right but they nail it! Another indicator is their beans and rice and they do a good job of that too! Edit: 2021. It seems that there has been some minor changes to the dishes. It doesn't quite have the flavor it used to have but it is still a good go-to and the outdoor seating is nice in these times. They also had to shut down the salsa bar. You can get little plastic small servings of their salsa though. The owners are really nice people and support the community through donations and fundraisers. I will still take my family here whenever possible.

I still remember trying KoJa's Kamikaze Fries back in 2011 at their first food truck in San Francisco. It was one of the most amazing fries I've ever had. They were crispy, topped with savory bits of beef and finished off with their signature sauces. Absolute dream combination that made it my must-have when going to the food truck park for months. Unfortunately, fast forward a decade later and it seems the quality isn't the same. Things looked great at first with the large mountain size serving of fries but then everything fell short once I took my first bite. I ordered the Umami Fries recommended by the staff hoping to bring back some great flavorful memories, but the fries weren't crispy at all and definitely were undercooked. The coconut pork was soggy and tasted boiled. The sauces were watered down. A complete let down of what I remembered. The Strawberry Mint Mango drink had no ice and lacked any richness. Also watered down as well. Maybe the chefs were just having an off day. I have such wonderful memories of KoJa, so I'd be willing to give them a try again in the future. I really hope it's not a case of expanding the business and losing the magic that made them successful in the first place.

Beef KoJa! 5/5 really flavorful! IG: @amei.eats

(Overall: 87% | B) - This koja is a very interesting concept. I love the crispy rice as the patty as this Asian take adds some unique texture. The spicy sesame sauce lusciously elevates the beef and the pineapple and slaw provide some good contrast as well. I think for this dish though, it could benefit significantly from not being served from a food truck as it would make the atmosphere much less chaotic.

Short rib bowl. So over dressed. Yuck.
    Lei H.

I saw the good reviews on koja and short rib rice bowl. Thought I tried and well at least I know I don't ever want to come back 1. Short rib was so over dressed and salty. Not good unless you are missing salt in your diet 2. I asked for less ice and more salad. They just gave me all salad 3. Salad is basically Safeway mixed greens etc they included both fresh greens and wilted ones. Not appetizing. Ugh so unsatisfying.

However, the items we ordered were delicious, clean, fresh, and authentic. Ginseng chicken soup was made with love. Can't find this dish in most Korean spots! Longer wait time because it takes longer to make. Meat fell if the bone, stock was rich and not salty! You can salt it yourself! Mackerel was tasty and juicy. Probably, the best pan fried mackerel I've had. The mungbean pancake was good but not for the price. Side dishes were decent. Kimchee could be better. Location is in the heart of Japan town! That's rare. Mother approved and we will be coming back again!

Took a chance on this Japantown fav and left wishing I'd purchased basically anything else there. Apparently I'm not alone, while all the other restaurants were bustling on a busy Sunday evening, this one was virtually empty.

Once you step through the doors, however, you're greeted by a space that feels both cozy and contemporary, with an effortlessly stylish atmosphere. Even the restroom was thoughtfully designed and remarkably comfortable--a small detail, but one that speaks to the restaurant's overall attention to detail. We began with the Uni Scallop Toast and Mulhwe as appetizers. As someone who is typically not a fan of uni due to its pronounced brininess, I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed the toast. The bright citrus sauce balanced the richness of the uni beautifully, while the contrasting textures from the crisp toast and delicate scallop created a harmonious bite. The scallop also helped mellow the stronger oceanic notes of the uni. It was a creative and memorable dish unlike anything I've had before. The Mulhwe, a Korean-style fish salad, was dressed in a refreshing apple vinaigrette that gave it a light, summery citrus character. The fish itself had a pleasantly chewy texture--firmer than salmon--with no trace of fishiness. While enjoyable, it didn't leave quite the same impression as the uni toast and was my least favorite dish of the evening. For our entrées, we ordered the Galbi Steak and Pork Jowl Bossam. Both dishes showcased exceptional execution. The meats were cooked perfectly, but what stood out even more was the precision in preparation. The steak was expertly sliced and incredibly tender--so much so that even with braces, it was effortless to enjoy. The pork jowl achieved an ideal balance between lean meat and luscious fat, creating a rich yet satisfying bite. We enjoyed the meal so much that dessert was non-negotiable. The Matcha Tiramisu was a creative interpretation of the classic. A dome of mascarpone cheese encased ladyfinger biscuits at its center, accompanied by a vibrant matcha ganache sauce. The dessert leaned far less sweet than traditional tiramisu, allowing the earthy matcha and creamy mascarpone flavors to shine. It was elegant, balanced, and a wonderful way to end the meal. Lastly, the service was outstanding. Our server was soft-spoken, patient, and genuinely attentive throughout the evening, making the experience feel warm and welcoming. Considering the quality of the food, thoughtful presentation, ambiance, and service, I found the pricing to be completely justified. As a pleasant surprise, I later learned that Bansang is part of the same restaurant group behind Daeho--a detail that certainly explains the level of quality we experienced.
